Hi all!! (waves!)

Cant believe our last thread filled up so quickly!

For those of you who don't know us, the 'Avoid the Quiche' Quiche is a group of people who all want to lose a substantial amount of weight (no coming on here complaining about the half a stone you desperately need to lose, thanks very much!) We all have different personal goals and reasons for wanting to lose weight, whether it be for a special holiday coming up, to aid fertility or to be healthier. This thread is a place to share your highs and lows, talk to like minded people, get encouragement and offer support to others when they need it!

Official weigh in day is Wednesday- Slimmer of the week will get a virtual bunch of flowers, woohoo!! Flowers

I personally am aiming to lose 6 stone. It wont be easy but i've got a great bunch of ladies behind me keeping me focused and for that i'm very grateful! Smile

Morning everyone. I've been really struggling this week. The weather turning cooler always puts me into some kind of hibernation mode and I just crave loads of carbs.

Fresh start this morning.

YellowCanary1 · 10/09/2013 09:38

Last night I couldn't help but notice a different success to this weight loss. We've always lived relatively healthily as we are lucky enough to have a small farm so grow all our veg and rear most our own meat. But without really noticing it we've had significant changes in our kitchen. Instead of making white bread, we always make brown, whole wheat; at dinner dh cut off all fat from the meat before cooking; in the evening instead of our old snack of cheese and biscuits dh brings out carrots and cucumber; whereas last year we gave away a lot of our veg, our cupboards are bursting with it and we're using it all. The only veg we keep giving to our neighbours is potatoes as we replace them with pumpkin and corn on cob; ds dives on his veg before anything else and our freezer is packed full of frozen veg soup and healthy dinners. We have no cakes, biscuits and crisps in the house and everyone reaches for the fruit as a snack.

Even more important than any weight loss my whole family's habits have changed, and that makes me so happy!! Also helped by the fact I cracked the 3stone loss today!

MissElodie · 10/09/2013 10:00

Morning all,

Hello to those who have been a little bit AWOL and nice to see you back Smile

yellow I hope you have a better day with your DC today. I have 3 under 3 years and so know the ARRRRGHHHH feeling all too well unfortunately!! Congrats on hitting the 3 stone mark - that's fantastic - well done!

Henrietta I hope your scan comes through soon - definitely chase it up today - it must be very worrying for you.

This week I have avoided a McDonalds, party food and a Chinese takeaway and so am hoping for a good loss tomorrow to show for my deprivation! Wink

My thought for today is that I would look forward to social events instead of be filled with dread and start to think of excuses not to go when I am invited as I have nothing to wear and know I will feel crap about myself.

LegoAcupuncture · 10/09/2013 10:17

Yellow, sounds lovely where you live! Well done on the 3 stone loss.

I'm really enjoying mango ATM, perfect snack. And I've found a great substitute for my craving of cheese. Laughing cow light with blue cheese. Just enough cheesiness for me to curb that caving.

Ali, I too am trying to resist the comforting stodgy foods. The cold weather isn't helping. Salads just are not appealing on these darker nights.

Aaaaaghhhhhhh!!!!AngryAngryAngryAngry

Going to be at least another week before I even get an appointment for a scan AngryAngryAngry

Reading some 'tips to cut calories' and thought I would share some-

-swap two rashers of bacon for 2 thin slices of ham
-swap a buttered bagel for an English muffin with low fat spread
-brush roast potatoes with oil rather than pouring into the roasting tray
-swap creamy soups , such as cream of chicken, for tomato based ones
-replace the cheese in your sandwich for another slice of lean meat
-serve sweet corn from the cob- the tin may have additives
-if you are having ice cream, have it in a tub rather than a cone
-swap a cornetto for a solero

Grin

Oh Henrietta that is rubbish :(

I like your tips, especially the icecream one. I would have thought a tub far worse than a cone - I guess they mean a small tub! Grin

HenriettaPye · 10/09/2013 14:51

It's probably better to have a tub as then it's just the ice cream you are eating, rather than ice cream and a cone GrinGrin

OP posts:
LayMizzRarb · 10/09/2013 14:53

Yes - have your ice cream in a tub. No point wasting calories on a cardboard cone Grin

Sirzy · 10/09/2013 14:56

I like those tips :)

Sirzy · 10/09/2013 14:56

I like those tips :)

Debs75 · 10/09/2013 15:01

it all depends on your cone. A small wafer cone is about 1pp but a waffle type cone can be around 10pp

LayMizzRarb · 10/09/2013 15:18

1pp on a cone is waaaay too much! I'd rather have a meringue nest/caramel rice cake/yoghurt !

Debs75 · 10/09/2013 15:32

oh yes a meringue nest with thick greek yogurt berries and a drizzle of maple syrup and you have a very low point but indulgent pudding

HenriettaPye · 10/09/2013 15:46

I never really enjoy the cone anyway, I always just eat it because its there!!

OP posts:
clarinetV2 · 10/09/2013 16:52

Ooooh, I could easily swap an ice cream cone for a lovely 2-litre tub. No problem at all. [salivates at the prospect of 2 litres of Ben & Jerry's]

That's rubbish news about your scan, henrietta. Can't believe how long it's taking. I suppose the only thing you can do is try not to worry too much about it - if they thought it was likely to be really serious they'd be investigating straight away. But it's awful to be left so long not knowing.

HenriettaPye · 10/09/2013 18:09

Random question but- what are you wearing right now? What do you wear on an ordinary day?

Looking round the school gate today I felt very self concious. Normally I'm a jeans and t shirt kind of girl but I looked frumpy compared to the other mums!

OP posts:
YellowCanary1 · 10/09/2013 18:11

I'm a jeans and t-shirt girl too. I tend to wear quite baggy or flowy tops as well.

YellowCanary1 · 10/09/2013 18:13

Ps - as a new mum to the school gates (ds1 just started a pre-school) I feel awfully frumpy, I rarely wear make up and have been shocked by the number of glam mums!!!!

HenriettaPye · 10/09/2013 18:15

Me too yellow canary, DS just started yesterday!

OP posts:
YellowCanary1 · 10/09/2013 18:20

It leaves a lump in the throat doesn't it! My ds just toddled off quite happily in his first session with no clinging etc. everyone said 'ohhh you must have been proud,' and in truth I felt awful that he didn't seem to miss me at all! Sad

we go on school grounds so with all the school mums as well, I felt so frumpy, especially when I started crying as I left!!

Lorelai · 10/09/2013 18:25

Jeans and t-shirt here today too, although mainly because I was working in scrubs all day so only needed to worry about driving to and from work. However I will admit to wearing nicer tops (still jeans though, I live in jeans) on days when I am doing the school run, particularly in the summer. I can't wait until next summer when I WILL be wearing skirts, cropped trousers, dresses etc rather than the same jeans over and over again.

HenriettaPye · 10/09/2013 18:26

Haha yellowcanary I was the same, DS toddled in and let me go no problem, I felt so unloved GrinGrin

I made it out the door before I started to cry!

Other mums were in skinny jeans and heels and looked really trendy, I am not a heels person (more a converse person) so wouldnt dress up as much as that but would like to 'fit in' a bit more!

OP posts:
Sirzy · 10/09/2013 18:28

I am lucky most of the mums at pre school are jeans and t shirt types.

I tend to live in jeans but have been wearing them with heels more now I can walk in them!

Reastie · 10/09/2013 18:32

Yellow what a fabulous change in habits you've managed. My DH eats for England - it's not uncommon for him to have more than 4 choc bars in a day (in addition to other snacks and meals) and he's so slim Envy .

My DD is due to start preschool in the spring. I don't know how she'll cope as she has never been with anyone other than family looking after her (other than gym creche where i had to give up as she never settled). She's obsessed with 'mummy STAY' everywhere we go and is quite clingy and mummyish. Hope this wears off before she starts preschool or I'm in for lots of heartbreaking tears Confused

Hen nice tips Grin . Right now I'm wearing leggings and gym top as have just done an insanity workout but today I've been wearing a purple and white wrap dress and ballet pumps (but I've been at work so have to wear something smart. If I wasn't at work it would probably be jeggings and a top)
