Hi all!! (waves!)

Cant believe our last thread filled up so quickly!

For those of you who don't know us, the 'Avoid the Quiche' Quiche is a group of people who all want to lose a substantial amount of weight (no coming on here complaining about the half a stone you desperately need to lose, thanks very much!) We all have different personal goals and reasons for wanting to lose weight, whether it be for a special holiday coming up, to aid fertility or to be healthier. This thread is a place to share your highs and lows, talk to like minded people, get encouragement and offer support to others when they need it!

Official weigh in day is Wednesday- Slimmer of the week will get a virtual bunch of flowers, woohoo!! Flowers

I personally am aiming to lose 6 stone. It wont be easy but i've got a great bunch of ladies behind me keeping me focused and for that i'm very grateful! Smile

Hi all, had a busy weekend with no time to post, but have been keeping an eye on you all and am so heartwarmed by the support and successes.

So good to feel I'm not the only one who has bad days (weeks) and loses motivation, but as many of you have said, by sticking together we can help each other back on track and keep moving.

And even when we are stressed, worried or sick, I think we are all more mindful of what's going into our bodies so are making healthier choices than we might have previously. Or at least, smaller amounts of the crap choices Smile

I haven't been running for 2 weeks. I don't know what's stopping me, I know I feel so much better when I do it, and it earns me more calories on MFP - so why can't I find time to get out that door? Somebody boot me out there please - even if it is raining!

My MFP name is expatspoiltbrat if anyone wants to hook up and give me a double booting. A name from a previous life......now very much back into UK life.

YellowCanary1 · 09/09/2013 13:01

Can I just use this thread for a totally off topic scream! AAAARRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHH! Ds2 has only taken breaks from feeding to scream at me, and ds1 on full blown trouble toddler mode, with temper tantrums to boot. Anything sets him off and I'm going stir crazy!! I've been up since 4am with ds2, exhausted and a bit fed up! Though stood on scales this morn and had lost 3lbs since friday?! I've been very good but 3lbs seems alot? Ds2 has done nothing but feed and scream since friday so put it down to that! Must not succumb to the biscuits!

Toddles off to rock silently and disturbingly in the corner!!

IKnewHouseworkWasDangerous · 09/09/2013 13:20

Issac it may be possible that the weightloss is triggering your hormones so dont be suprised if periods reappear.

IsaacCox · 09/09/2013 13:32

That's what I thought IKnew. I'm hoping so :)

You are so right cq. Without this thread and all the lovely people on it, I wouldn't have had half the motivation/support. I'd have gone back to my old ways no doubt. I love this thread Grin

Yellow, Well done on the amazing loss!

cq · 09/09/2013 13:33

Scream away, yellow - just stay away from the biscuits! Sounds like DS2 is having a growth spurt - and DS1 is just feeling like he wants to grab your attention in the most dramatic way possible. Poor you. Have you anyone close by you can hand them over to for a couple of hours and catch up on some sleep?

Time to resort to favourite DVD and a snooze on the sofa for mummy?

LayMizzRarb · 09/09/2013 15:12

IsaacCox, if you don't mind me asking, how old are you? Could it be the menopause? I haven't had a period for about 6 months; normally have them evry 4-5 months and I'm 47. So I think I probably am. Is this reason that I am having trouble shifting weight?

IsaacCox · 09/09/2013 15:40

I'm 23 LayMizz. I have PCOS which is why I have irregular/no periods. Not sure if that's the reason you're having trouble, sorry :(

I was going to wait until the morning to go for a walk but I thought what have I got to lose (apart from lbs! Grin) I did 3.45 km and knocked about 10 minutes off the time from when I used to do the same walk in May! Shock :)

LegoAcupuncture · 09/09/2013 16:18

Saac, I have PCOS and I find that reducing my carbs helps as I have the insulin dependent side of it, very annoying. Carbs are not my friends but I luffs them :(

LegoAcupuncture · 09/09/2013 16:18

Dependent = resistant

YellowCanary1 · 09/09/2013 16:24

Well done isaac.
Cq you're right. Ds1 also had first session at nursery this morn for an hour. He loved it, but think behaviour also reaction to that. They've both calmed down now, thank goodness. I did have a bit of a pig out but it was on the raw carrots instead of biscuits!

LayMizzRarb · 09/09/2013 17:12

Oh to be 23 again Isaac! Maybe you ought to see your Dr. Well done on your walk

HenriettaPye · 09/09/2013 17:33

Still no letter for scan Sad

DS had his first day at Pre school today. He was great, he loved it, yet I sobbed like a baby Blush. I managed to make it out the door before I started though so at least he didn't see me cry and get upset himself.

Went to the toy shop to pick a special treat after school and then for an ice cream. I chose a sorbet as I'm sure I remember hearing sorbet is low fat? Am I right?

Another 'sorry for absence' person. I've been good food-wise but had a few glasses of wine over the weekend which has resulted in me putting on 1.5 lbs - not masses (and it's not water-weight as it's still here) but throws me right back into pattern of just not getting anywhere. I haven't managed to get below 15st 8lbs for months and months. And it's so unfair [teenage-strop emoticon]!

LayMissRarb - I think we are same age and having the same difficulty! I'm sure it's my hormones but can't prove it. My periods are all over the place so I know something's going on.

Well done to others for persisting. I shall as well, because there is no other option.

Sirzy · 09/09/2013 19:23

Glad he enjoyed it Henrietta, Ds loved his first day too and was asleep by 6.30!

HenriettaPye · 09/09/2013 19:43

Glad he liked it too Sirzy! DS just gone to bed now, only in for 1 hour 15 minutes every day this week but its long enough for them at the start!

BirdingWidow · 09/09/2013 20:28

Henrietta, how old is your DS? Mine is almost a year old and started properly today after induction (short visits) last week. It's been a bit bumpy here. I haven't cried on drop off but couldn't come straight back to an empty house today, had to kick heels in Starbucks for a bit (succumbed to a large coffee but resisted cake) Sad

Had a sneaky mid-week weigh in today and think it is going to be a gain for me this week. Even allowing for wedding feasting I haven't eaten badly overall this week... However, the wedding booze pushed me right over though and is definitely to blame for my downfall.

HenriettaPye · 09/09/2013 20:47

Birding, he was 3 in may. is it daycare nursery your DS has started? He has just started preschool. He is in an hour 15 minutes this week, then an hour and a half next week, and will gradually be built up until he's in 9-1.30 everyday.

How is your DS when you drop him off? I worked in a nursery for a few years with little ones around your DS age and they tend to settle really quickly! Even if there's a few tears at the start they soon get into the way of things! Smile

OP posts:
BirdingWidow · 09/09/2013 20:58

Thanks for the reassurance Henrietta. He cries when I drop him off but generally stops quite quickly. Friday he was more tearful but he had a cold (he is not good in those circumstances, I see Man Flu in his future...). Today not too bad I gather. He doesn't yet eat or sleep much while he is there, I am sure that will come.

I might have hugged him a tiny bit tight when I picked him up...

HenriettaPye · 09/09/2013 21:37

Yes it will come, babies are so adaptable at that age! He will soon get into the way of things and their routine and it will be second nature to him! a lot of babies cry when dropped off but the generally settle really quickly once the parents go. And it's great for them to be with the other children.
I loved working in the nursery, I think it was probably my favourite ever job. I left when I had my first child, I didn't want to leave my child to go out to work to look after other people's, if that makes sense.

Debs75 · 09/09/2013 21:38

Back to day one again today. Yesterday was a bit disappointing and it was 'eat what you want day' so I may of overdone it.

Exercise wise I did cycle some 5 miles yesterday and I think the same today. Plus the walk to dd3's nursery is about a mile each way. I am feeling so much more prepared today to have a good week and I think the exercise will help.

I am well within my points today, even with the sneaky bit of leftover dc's tea. (I really must stop doing thatBlush). Please, please keep it up more than two days this week.

LegoAcupuncture · 09/09/2013 21:45

Aww, is so hard when your little ones start school. Ds3 started reception last week and I was choked dropping him off. I sat in the car and sobbed. People passing must have thought I was crazy.

Good luck Debs. You CAN do this!

HenriettaPye · 09/09/2013 22:02

DS who has just started pre school is my eldest, so I'm feeling very strange at the minute! Getting uniform ready and realising that this is it- I'm going to be doing this every weekday for at least the next 17 years! It's crazy!

OP posts:
LayMizzRarb · 09/09/2013 22:14

Here's a thought.

I was putting on weight at a couple of pounds a month. Its not exactly impossible to gain 8oz a week, I'm sure we have all done it.

If I hadn't decided to do something about it then I worked out that next week , added to the weight I have lost (nearly a stone) then I would be a stone and a half heavier than I now am.

Aren't you all glad you did that u-turn?

clarinetV2 · 09/09/2013 22:33

The next 17 years will go faster than you think, Henrietta! Chin up, those of you with LOs starting nursery and daycare. You'll soon get used to it, promise. And before you look round you'll be packing them off to uni... and then the airport to go and teach English in China Sad - that's where DD2 is.

LayMizz and moonshine, I think it does get harder to lose weight as we get older. I read somewhere that once you're properly through the menopause (as in a year since your last period) your metabolism slows even more, so I think I've been seeing this last year as make or break time, and my last opportunity to get down to a healthy weight before my periods stop for good.

Very good to see you back, moonshine. And Henrietta, maybe if that letter doesn't arrive tomorrow it's time to get on the phone? I can't believe that this anxiety is doing you any good at all.

cq, what thoughts go through your head when you decide not to run? Sometimes it's possible to train yourself to notice a train of thought and replace it. So if the thought is, "I don't have time", when you catch yourself thinking it, you could try replacing it with something like, "I deserve this time for looking after my health and well-being" or whatever will work for you. And would it help to establish a routine around running? E.g. if you always do half an hour before work, it might become a habit. I've done that with walking, and it's so automatic now that I don't even notice I'm doing it!

HenriettaPye · 10/09/2013 08:33

Yes Clarinet if it doesn't arrive today I'm going to phone up about it, its been a week today! Done a pregnancy test but negative so i think it is still up there somewhere!

Weigh in tomorrow- last day to cram in as much exercise and eat healthily to see if it shows on the scales tomorrow! I always find Tuesdays are my best days for dieting because I know I have weigh in the next day. Thursday/Fridays I sometimes slip up thinking 'I've nearly a whole week to burn it off before I get on the scales!'

Maybe I should weigh everyday!
