HenriettaPye · 26/08/2013 19:53

Hi all!! (waves!)

Cant believe our last thread filled up so quickly!

For those of you who don't know us, the 'Avoid the Quiche' Quiche is a group of people who all want to lose a substantial amount of weight (no coming on here complaining about the half a stone you desperately need to lose, thanks very much!) We all have different personal goals and reasons for wanting to lose weight, whether it be for a special holiday coming up, to aid fertility or to be healthier. This thread is a place to share your highs and lows, talk to like minded people, get encouragement and offer support to others when they need it!

Official weigh in day is Wednesday- Slimmer of the week will get a virtual bunch of flowers, woohoo!! Flowers

I personally am aiming to lose 6 stone. It wont be easy but i've got a great bunch of ladies behind me keeping me focused and for that i'm very grateful! Smile

Morning

Well done Isaac- you should be proud of yourself for resisting temptation!

Can't believe it's September already! Shock

chipping I'm 5'9" and I put in 11st as my target. I'd be very happy with that but it does mean I've still got over 3 st to lose - an elephant's heart.

I love all this talk of elephant penises, I'm naturally childish like that.

Dp has now HIDDEN my scales Shock. The panel had fallen off the bath and I was keeping a few things (including my scales) under the bath to keep them out of the way. Now dp has put the panel back on the bath, leaving the scales, my slippers and the potty behind it. So now I'll have to wait til Sat am to weigh each week at sw because I don't want to have to deal with taking the bath panel off and putting it back on.

QuicheDodger · 01/09/2013 10:40

Hello all, I'm new here (thought this was an appropriate username, I haven't had quiche for nearly a year). Can I join in for some moral support??

Last November I weighed just over 14 stone - and at 5'2 that worked out a BMI of nearly 36. I was a size 18, though in denial as I was just wearing my baggiest size 16s, undoing the zips and wearing longer tops to cover the gap. It was the heaviest I've ever been and I decided I needed to really do something about it.

My goal has been to lose weight slow and steady. In total I've lost 2 stone so far and am now fitting into a size 14, but I'm still technically obese with a BMI of 30.7. While my weight loss hasn't been astounding on a weekly basis I've not put any weight on in 10 months. I want to lose another 2 stone, which would make me just overweight (nearly normal? ha ha).

I start Slimming World next week to really try and help motivate me. I feel I've reached a plateau and this is the point where I could pile it all back on. I need to keep up my lifestyle changes (exercising, lower fat cooking, better food choices, smaller portions) and I could fall off the wagon at any moment.

LayMizzRarb · 01/09/2013 11:31

Can't put it off any longer. Been avoiding this thread as I fell off the wagon for 2 days. MIL funeral was on Friday, so I had a few glasses of wine, and then a few nibbles from the buffet; and then shockingly used that as an excuse to go off the rails yesterday. That's not going to get the weight off so I'm back with it today.
I hope the scales will be kind on Wednesday :-)

cq · 01/09/2013 11:47

Wow this thread moves fast - I turn my back for a couple of days and there's all this talk of elephant penises and other animal abuse. Those poor guinea pigs Wink

Hey Mia it's my birthday on Tuesday too! I'm going to be 47 Shock. This is deeply troubling me. 46 has been ok because it's only marginally more than 45. But 47 sounds dangerously close to 50. Holy crap.

Anyway, despite my sister and nieces being down for a few days, I have not strayed too badly off course - in fact, I have been inflicting some healthy eating on my sister - she was disgusted that the wine was not flowing lavishly as it usually does when we get together! I think I've also managed to persuade her that drinking fruit juice is actually really bad for your blood sugar swings (as well as expensive) so maybe I've been a good influence on her.

Not as good as Clarinet though - that's seriously impressive and I do agree we should all wear a WWCD? bangle from now on.

Off for a dog walk now - I have an extra one visiting for the weekend so I'm going to go for a long walk in the middle of nowhere so I can let them all run free and not worry about losing them. Hopefully. When I talk about losing a small dog, I want it to be in the weight loss sense, not in reality Smile

BirdingWidow · 01/09/2013 12:49

Well LayMizz, it is easy to get derailed from time to time but as long as you don't give up entirely you can get back on track. Two bad days won't stop you reaching your goal in the grand scheme of things.

I wasn't very motivated last week and STS but this week I seem to be more in the mood. I have just done a naughty mid-week weigh (normally i am strictly once a week) and think I will have lost something this week come Wednesday. So that makes me feel motivated. That and the fact that I have some job interviews coming up. My thought for the day: I don't want to meet new people and feel that my weight is the first thing they notice about me.

Re. Elephant penis, I happen to have a photo of a rather impressive elephant erection that I took on safari a few years ago. It actually touches the ground. There was a 10 year old boy in our party who asked his dad why the elephant had 5 legs. After a pause the dad said 'its not a leg'. The look on the boy's face as it dawned on him was hilarious, all the adults were rolling about laughing.

Reastie · 01/09/2013 13:26

LayMizz agree with Birding . It's not the going off the rails, it's the getting back on track and not giving up. Everyone will have time off watching what they eat (even slim people) but it doesn't mean you give up. Hope the funeral went OK.

Another weigher every day person here too (well, most days). I even have one of those fancy pants body fat/BMI etc scales. I find it's useful to keep me on track - it motivates me when I'm doing well and makes me work hard if it goes up a bit.

Birding in stitches at your elephant story!

cq you're only as old as you feel

quichedodger love the nn and well done for the loss so far.

Mia I love routiney workouts so might have to put hip hop abs on my christmas list (in the hope insanity will keep me busy until then)

Did my insanity cardio this morning and feel much better for it (didn't at the time though ). Taking DD for a little walk in a min to splash in the river :)

LayMizzRarb · 01/09/2013 13:34

Thanks guys! It was great to have this thread to have to answer to!
I'm making some butternut squash soup later so that will fill me up and make me stay on track.

HenriettaPye · 01/09/2013 16:26

ATTENTION ALL QUICHE AVOIDERS----

STAY AWAY FROM TESCO!!!!
They have the big tubs of Christmas chocolates for £5ShockShock

Roses, celebrations, miniature heroes and quality street. It was so hard to just walk past them. But I did it! Smile

OP posts:
moonshine · 01/09/2013 16:36

Elephant's penis - is that on the bootcamp menu Shock?

Henrietta - I also noticed the Xmas choccies are already out - a bit hard to miss as it was a whole aisle. Reminded me that I would like a) to have lost enough weight by Xmas to not worry about over-indulging a little bit and putting on a few pounds but b) to not put on my usual stone.

Today I did went on the x-trainer for the first time in 2 months and really felt it badly. Also went on a 4 mile walk and am now looking forward to my roast later (just some lamb and veg for me).

Happy birthday CQ and Mia for Tuesday. I was 47 in July and it definitely strays into the 'late 40s' realm Sad.

LegoAcupuncture · 01/09/2013 21:27

I'm so glad I'm not a huge fan of chocolate, can give or take it. Quite partial to an after 8 mint though mmm.

I have just booked our holiday for next year, log cabin with jacuzzi, so need to look at least ok to walk outside in a swimming costume.

After my bath tonight, my motivation is that I'd like to get out of the bath and wrap the bath sheet around myself without there being any gapes.

ChippingInNeedsSleepAndCoffee · 02/09/2013 01:31

SummerHoliDiDi thanks for that :) To get the same 'look' & BMI as you, I need to be 7 stone 10lbs :( I cannot remember the last time I was under 8 stone. I have always had curves - typical hour glass - I really don't feel I had any weight to lose a half stone more than that, but the BMI is starting to get at the top end of normal at that (not that I think BMI really means much on an individual basis) . Maybe if I chop my boobs and excess skin which I'm bound to have off I'll get under 8st... Grin Oh and if it makes you feel any better - to get to 8 stone I still have a 2 month old horse to loose Shock

Why did he not take those things out before putting the bath panel back?? But really, it's not hard to take it off again - unless he's sealed it with silicon or something.

Lego - I noticed the other day that I can now do that with my towels - I'm very impressed :)

ChippingInNeedsSleepAndCoffee · 02/09/2013 01:32

Lego you know what that means don't you??

I have bigger towels than you Grin

Lorelai · 02/09/2013 07:51

Ladies (not assuming everyone on this thread is a woman, just that this is a question for women!), when in your cycle does your period affect weight loss? Is it when you are coming up to being due on, or while you actually have your period? In other words, if mine started on Sat, would it have had an impact on my weight loss last Wed or will it affect this week? Or indeed if it is done by Wed will it not have any impact at all?

IsaacCox · 02/09/2013 09:26

Morning all :)

I had a really lovely drink last night that warmed me up, filled me up, was delicious and took away chocolate cravings. I had an options Belgian chocolate hot choc sachet made with boiling water and a little milk, then topped it with a flump chopped into pieces. It was heaven and would only be 70 calories if there was no milk added.

You may remember a few days ago I said I couldn't get my wedding & engagement rings off because my fingers are like sausages Blush. Well, last night I did it! Though not because I wanted too but that's all sorted out now! It took a bit of persuasion but they came off and didn't cut me like when I used to try to get them off.

Have a great day all.

LayMizzRarb · 02/09/2013 10:46

I was totally back on track yesterday, finished the day with my treat of a Daim bar. Only 4 WW points and well worth it. Nice to know I have lost the weight of two human heads!

LegoAcupuncture · 02/09/2013 12:53

Grin Lorelai

WI for me today, have last 2lbs. So 10lbs in total over 3 weeks, not bad! Put some jeans on this morning I've not wore since the beginning of the school, holidays and they fit so much better, no having to breathe in when zipping up. Result!

HenriettaPye · 02/09/2013 14:39

All going good here too, hoping for a good loss this week after my almighty gain last week Smile

OP posts:
BirdingWidow · 02/09/2013 14:40

Right now I WANT a huuuuge bag of maltesers but am actually nibbling on a bag of crunchy coleslaw mix.

I think it's what Clarinet would do.

Reastie · 02/09/2013 15:18

lego that's great. Weigh in log for me this morning too, 1lb down which makes 89 in total [proud] . Back to work today after summers hols and got 3 'you've lost even more weight' comments Grin

birding i want chocolate too must be mid afternoon slump. I'm having an apple. Let's face it, it's not the same is it?!

Isaac you see, my low cal hot choc theory really works doesn't it?

I ache like an old woman today. Usually I ache like I've been working out in a good way but today I creak and ache like I'm too old for this Confused I'm only 31!

Sirzy · 02/09/2013 15:21

Back how now :( going to catch up on how others are doing now as it seems like I have missed a lot over the past few days. What with holiday eating (alebit me trying to be good - saying no to a cooked breakfast this morning was tough) and now DS being ill I will be happy if I have even stayed the same this week

Sirzy · 02/09/2013 15:25

I usually find that my period effects my weight for about 2 days before it starts and 2 days after. i guess everyone is different though, I use the wii fit to tack my weight (so weigh in most days but only check the combined loss once a week) and when you look back through the graphs you can see the pattern quite clearly.

Lorelai · 02/09/2013 16:30

Thanks Sirzy. So hopefully it won't affect my weigh ins at all, that's good.

I have been pretty good for the last few days - did C25K run 2 yesterday, and another swim today (only 1.5km though, wasn't really feeling it today :( ). I was quite proud of myself this afternoon - went to M&S cafe with DH and the girls, they all had cakes, I just had a tea and the mini biscuit that comes with it (tiny little thing, can't possibly be more than 1 or 2 Syns). I didn't feel deprived at all, honestly didn't mind not having a cake. I think I can resist food quite easily in that situation, my issue is emotional eating, and that is what I will find hard - not turning to junk food when I am upset/stressed. Hopefully all this exercise will also help my mood and kill two birds with one stone :)

Sirzy · 02/09/2013 16:32

I do exactly the same with emotional eating, it is a vicious circle as they I feel bad for eating so eat more!

IsaacCox · 02/09/2013 16:47

Well done Lego! Great feeling.

Well done Birding, great willpower!

Yes, it really does Reastie Grin

Well done for resisting a cooked breakfast Sirzy!

Well done for not having cake Lorelai You can have this cake which has no calories Cake Grin

I'm just back from the gym. Burnt 650 calories in 80 minutes plus the walk there and back.
