30 Day Shred - DVD just arrived ... anyone else about to start?!

Lovethesea · 22/06/2013 10:58

So, after all I've read, the DVD and the weights have arrived....

Later today I plan to begin.

In 30 days I will be toned, have lost this extra stone, feel awake instead of in need of a nap all the time ... etc etc etc.

Right now just getting through the first one would be a victory! Anyone else desperate and mad enough to be starting this....

OP posts:

Hairy - I went for a long cycle yesterday and found the Shred much harder at the end of the day (especially on my knees), all credit to you for doing both on even some days!

Tinwe · 28/07/2013 21:40

Baby - what's Ripped in 30 like? I've seen she's also done an Extreme Shred too, what made you pick ripped?

Babybeesmama · 29/07/2013 12:30

I have a box set so got ripped and extreme shed n shred! Week 2 of ripped is tough but I like the 3 2 1 format. I've been doing extreme on a weekend if I have time! X

Tinwe · 29/07/2013 17:45

Wow! Sounds impressive Babybees :)
C2L1D3 today!

Babybeesmama · 29/07/2013 17:53

Oh and I just recieved the banish fat boost metabolism one - but I'm scared to do it as heard its very tough! Shock

Tinwe · 29/07/2013 18:57

And the others aren't?! Shock

Babybeesmama · 29/07/2013 20:49

Done Confused it was tough but really good... Think I could smell fat burning, well I hope so I get weighed on Wednesday at slimming world and I want my half stone award!

Tinwe · 29/07/2013 21:29

Well done Baby! I've done a long cycle and the Shred again today. My knees still find the lunges and squats hard. Does anyone know whether those exercises are bad for knees, I thought I'd be ok just avoiding the high impact stuff. Hmm

HairyPotter · 29/07/2013 21:57

L2D4 done first thing then C25K after dinner. It's a fast day as well so it felt harder than usual.

My new nemisis is the oblique twists and all the planky bits. I think they may be worse than the jump ropes.

Ripped sounds horrendous! Should I google?

Tinwe · 29/07/2013 22:44

Very impressive Hairy to do the 2 challenges simultaneously.

I STILL can't do any Natalie push ups. Think I've been born without the required anatomy. There must be a muscle or two I'm lacking that make it possible in other people?

NomDeOrdinateur · 30/07/2013 01:05

Tinwe - I wondered about the squats and lunges, but I found that the pain in my knees completely went away when I slowed down and focused on getting the form right. I found that it helps to set your feet further apart, and do the repetitions very slowly whilst focusing on keeping your weight centered, minimising the amount of forwards knee movement, and making sure that your knees never bend beyond 90 degrees. DBro is a body builder, and says that rest days are absolutely essential - I'm really glad I listened to him, as I felt a lot better after following his advice. Also, it might be worth making sure that you do the impact exercises (jump rope, jumping jacks, butt-kicks) on your spongy mat, just to minimise the strain on the joints as far as possible.

Props to all of the people who are on Ripped etc - I've watched the workouts and am dreading the point where I feel "ready" to move on!

I just finished L1D7, after 2 rest days (my knees were hurting). I'm really surprised by how much difference I can see so early into the programme - my thighs are now noticeably toned where they meet my knees, and DH has confirmed that I'm not imagining it! Grin

Tinwe · 30/07/2013 21:12

Thanks Nom. Good advice. After your post I researched about correct form and exercising with bad knees. There was a mixture of don't do them and do them but with correct form as they're good for your joints! I've decided to see a Physio as a one off for advice as the pain is carrying over between exercise sessions now, despite checking my form (although I realise I can't see properly if I'm doing it right) and I'm seeing such benefits I really don't want to stop exercising. I'm really hoping they don't just say "go swimming" which the gp did a few years ago as that's just not practical in my life right now, 20 minutes before tea is all I can fit in Hmm

Tinwe · 30/07/2013 21:13

Well done on your new found firmness too btw Smile

Tinwe · 30/07/2013 21:14

C2L1D4 Smile

HairyPotter · 30/07/2013 22:47

L2D5 done Smile

I think I might actually make it to level 3 at this rate!

NomDeOrdinateur · 30/07/2013 23:58

Welcome, Tinwe (and thanks)! Visiting a physio/pt for a one-off appointment is a great idea - I was thinking of doing the same, until I realised that DBro's tips were working for me. I hope they manage to find a solution for you. It must be so frustrating to have chronic knee problems - I really feel for you Sad. Mine aren't bad most of the time but I do have to be careful with my form or they get very sore, which is bad news as mid-life osteoarthritis runs in my family. Even after correcting my form I found that just trying to speed up the side lunge exercises on L1D5 set me back (presumably where I was rushing and letting my knees sag forwards), so it's easily done!

Congrats also, Hairy - please make it to Level 3, you're ahead of me and I'll get all trepidatious (if that's even a word) if you stop!

smelmafingers · 31/07/2013 13:06

I've lost track of what day i'm on. Think it may be L2d5. Didn't have a time first thing today. Think i needto pay moreattentionn during my lunges also. Woke up during the night with sore knees.

I definitely feel more toned. Still need to get rid of my wonderful saddlebags Grin

HairyPotter · 01/08/2013 23:29

No shred here yesterday. Wasn't feeling too well during the day, then had visitors at night.

But, L2D6 done now!

Nom that is indeed a fantastic word! I will do my best not to throw the towel in again. Although, Smelma is at the very same stage as me if I do give up! Grin

HairyPotter · 02/08/2013 11:50

L2D7 done! I think this is the furthest I have ever got Grin

NomDeOrdinateur · 02/08/2013 18:02

I've finished L1D10 (finally), and naively attempted the first 2 circuits of Banish Fat Boost Metabolism today with the intention of doing L2D1 of 30DS straight afterwards. All I can say is OUCH - BFBM is a great cardio workout, but quite tough on the knees and very hot/sweaty. I'm still going to start L2 tonight, but I think it'll take me a while to build all of the circuits from BFBM into the same workout!

NomDeOrdinateur · 02/08/2013 18:03

Congrats Hairy - that's an important milestone! Hope you're feeling better now, btw Smile.

smelmafingers · 02/08/2013 21:49

Just had a wee look at banish fat boost metabolism.

Looks like it would do the trick! However think i'll just stick to shred for the moment as neither of the DC sleeping well at the moment and i don't want to risk waking them with my thumping around. Good excuse?

L2D6 today. Seems a bit easier again today. Although, my body refuses to do the V arm move on the last strength circuit.

NomDeOrdinateur · 02/08/2013 22:45

Smelma - ANY excuse to avoid BFBM is a good one! It's a fantastic workout, but very challenging. Glad to hear that L2 gets easier eventually - I know what you mean about body refusing to cooperate though, I still have that with the right-leaning "side lunge with anterior raise" move at the end of LA Sad.

Nexus6 · 03/08/2013 05:30

I really want to do this. I'm 3 weeks and 3 days postpartum but I had a straight forward birth with no stitches. My small tear has healed now so as long as I take it steady should be ok?

I can't stand my thighs at the moment feel rubbish about body!

smelmafingers · 03/08/2013 13:22

Hello Nexus6

I wouldnt have managed the squats and lunges 3 weeks postpartum. But i suppose everyone is different. I think with workout is designed to push you as hard as possible.

Someone else may have better advice for you. Or maybe be able to recommend another workout
.
You can watch the 30 day shred on youtube, so youre not wasting cash on the dvd.
