Week 1 - Summer Low Carb Bootcamp starts here!

Morning all! There are over 150 of us signed up for Bootcamp, so it?s going to be busy I think. If you haven?t already put your name on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness, here is the link so that you can add yourself:

Just add yourself to the bottom of the list and the lovely WillieWaggleDagger, our SpreadsheetMeister, will ensure that it is re-sorted to remain alphabetised. Don?t touch any of the blue columns!
We work in pounds, but if you are a metric person, there?s a tab at the bottom of the spreadsheet that says ?conversion? which will recalculate from metric to imperial.

It?s up to you whether you choose to enter your actual weight or to index it, i.e. you start today at 100, and for every pound you lose you drop by 1.

You will also see on the tabs on the spreadsheet the rules for Bootcamp, as well as rules for those of you who are vegetarian, and rules for Bootcamp Light, which you can move on to after two weeks of Bootcamp.

There are only 10 rules, and the thinking behind Bootcamp is that it should be as straightforward as possible to follow. If you follow the rules (yes, all of them ? and especially no 7!), you will lose weight.

The idea behind Bootcamp is that we have a strict fortnight of low carbing, to break the addiction that we have to carbs and sweet things. You are making sure that you are switching your body from burning carbs to burning fat, and you will go into what is called ketosis in these first two weeks.

All that this means is that you are fat-burning.

In the first few days of low carbing, especially if you haven?t done it before, you may feel a bit rubbish ? you may have headaches or just feel generally tired and achey. This is known as ?carb flu? ? and it means that you are withdrawing from carbohydrates. Sugar (which is essentially how the body views and uses carbs) is highly addictive, and your body will be craving it. Don?t give in! After a couple of days you will feel much better.

If you are feeling odd or ill, make sure that you are getting plenty of sodium, potassium and magnesium. Add salt to your food and cook with salt. Try making a drink from Marmite/Bovril. Good foods to include in your diet are spinach, salmon and avocado. Drink plenty of water and make sure that you really are keeping your fat levels up. Take some paracetamol if you have a headache (not aspirin or ibuprofen as these drugs can impede weight loss).

B bacon, sausage, mushroom, 2 eggs

L. Celeriac soup with chicken

D HM coleslaw, ham with full fat cream cheese, salad, salami

Water
Coffee
Peppermint tea

For those who are new, stick with the plan as it is fabulous. Dh and I have stayed on the plan since Jan although dh strays more than me. If he wants a pizza, he has one....same with a beer. He gets straight back on the plan and we both love it.

Yama....Thanks.....fab news! Smile

Good frief Ruprekt! I never see bargains like that!

I have got that funny feeling of being "empty" even though I know I'm not hungry IYSWIM. I guess it's because I'm not weighed down by stodgy carbs.

Todays food was:
B - Turkey breast steak, 2 duck eggs friend in butter, tea.
L - Leftover chicken and vegetable curry with cauliflower rice
T - Cauliflower crust pizza, mince in a bolognese type sauce, salad

Again I haven't managed as much water as I should as I was at work

BIWI · 01/05/2013 20:50

justpoppy Why did you have a protein shake for lunch?! Do you know what's in those things?! They are full of artificial ingredients, which we are trying to avoid!

According to my trainer the one I have is lower carb BIWI and no artificial sweeteners. It's natural whey (it tastes pretty foul so I'm guessing it has less nasties in it than usual). But yes I know I shouldn't be lazy - will take lunch to work with me tomorrow.

BIWI · 01/05/2013 20:58

It's not just artificial sweeteners though, it's artificial everything! Just have a read of what's in it ...

The other thing is, it may be low carb, but you're supposed to be getting your carbs from veg and salad. You've had hardly any today.

I have just had a roast dinner, roast pork, cabbage, cauliflower, runner beans. It was delicious. Didn't even miss the Ross potatoes

I have also just discovered Tezco finest salmon and cream cheese canapé things. Reduced from a fiver to three quid, carb cunt minimal. Also marmite cheeses 0.2 carbs each, so you can eat the whole packet, no harm done.

So my food today

Lunch - cheese, chicken and mayo salad. 2 hard boiled eggs, and the roast for dinner.

I can't do the water thing. I am trying but diet coke is my nemesis.

GetOrfMoiLand · 01/05/2013 20:58

That is great news Yama, you must be so relieved,

BIWI · 01/05/2013 20:59

Grin at 'carb cunt'!

Some Thanks and a Wine or two for you Yama

Ruprekt I agree with you entirely... DH has taken a lot of this WOE on board and we have stuck with it, largely because the food choices are s bloody delicious! He has pasta as his treat once a week... I have a glass of wine... Or2!!!

Thanks FR Bulgarian saad recipe up thread... I like sound of the grated goats cheese.,

PS everyone keep on the water... The more you drink daily the quicker you stop sloshing around!

GetOrfMoiLand · 01/05/2013 21:06

Oh that is interesting biwi, hw strange that it didn't effect the blood sugar but did the ketones.

Bugger. I will have to try fizzy BORING water.

BIWI · 01/05/2013 21:09

A friend of mine who is a MNetter and who occasionally low carbs (but doesn't Bootcamp) bought some PLJ today. I always thought that would be either artificially sweetened or high in carbs, but it's not at all. So I bought some as well. Just a very small amount in fizzy water gives it an interesting sharp taste. That might help?

OP posts:
GetOrfMoiLand · 01/05/2013 21:12

What is PLJ?

twinklestar2 · 01/05/2013 21:15

Lol @ carb cunts!

sammisatt · 01/05/2013 21:23

B: 2 sausages 1 egg, coffee with cream
L: 2 hard boiled eggs, spinach watercress and rocket salad, half avocado, ham, small piece of cheese followed by a slice of beef for pud!
D: chicken breast in a cream and mushroom sauce, half an avocado
S: hungry after spinning so had some chorizo slices.

This is way too much food isn't it??

BIWI · 01/05/2013 21:25

PLJ

OP posts:
BIWI · 01/05/2013 21:26

sammisatt - not at all! (Probably not quite enough veg in there though)
