Week 1 - Summer Low Carb Bootcamp starts here!

BIWI · 29/04/2013 10:34

Morning all! There are over 150 of us signed up for Bootcamp, so it?s going to be busy I think. If you haven?t already put your name on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness, here is the link so that you can add yourself:

Just add yourself to the bottom of the list and the lovely WillieWaggleDagger, our SpreadsheetMeister, will ensure that it is re-sorted to remain alphabetised. Don?t touch any of the blue columns!
We work in pounds, but if you are a metric person, there?s a tab at the bottom of the spreadsheet that says ?conversion? which will recalculate from metric to imperial.

It?s up to you whether you choose to enter your actual weight or to index it, i.e. you start today at 100, and for every pound you lose you drop by 1.

You will also see on the tabs on the spreadsheet the rules for Bootcamp, as well as rules for those of you who are vegetarian, and rules for Bootcamp Light, which you can move on to after two weeks of Bootcamp.

There are only 10 rules, and the thinking behind Bootcamp is that it should be as straightforward as possible to follow. If you follow the rules (yes, all of them ? and especially no 7!), you will lose weight.

The idea behind Bootcamp is that we have a strict fortnight of low carbing, to break the addiction that we have to carbs and sweet things. You are making sure that you are switching your body from burning carbs to burning fat, and you will go into what is called ketosis in these first two weeks.

All that this means is that you are fat-burning.

In the first few days of low carbing, especially if you haven?t done it before, you may feel a bit rubbish ? you may have headaches or just feel generally tired and achey. This is known as ?carb flu? ? and it means that you are withdrawing from carbohydrates. Sugar (which is essentially how the body views and uses carbs) is highly addictive, and your body will be craving it. Don?t give in! After a couple of days you will feel much better.

If you are feeling odd or ill, make sure that you are getting plenty of sodium, potassium and magnesium. Add salt to your food and cook with salt. Try making a drink from Marmite/Bovril. Good foods to include in your diet are spinach, salmon and avocado. Drink plenty of water and make sure that you really are keeping your fat levels up. Take some paracetamol if you have a headache (not aspirin or ibuprofen as these drugs can impede weight loss).

Well my official week one weigh in this morning gives me a 5lb loss since last Wednesday. Happy with that!

Still a bit bunged up and notice that whenever I eat anything my stomach gets a bit bloated. I assume that will sort itself out in time. Have bought magnesium. And Ducolax for a dire emergency!

Food today was:

B total yoghurt with flaxseed (how god are e full fat ones?? Much nicer than the 0% ones I had been having on weight watchers.
L - smoked salmon roulades, cherry peppers with ricotta, sliced turkey
Snack - babble
Dinner will be assorted meats on BBQ with salad.

DS made Eton Mess at school and brought it home............... I love Eton Mess. Tomorrow I am off to London for my Thai lunch with wine. I may put the Eton Mess in the fridge for tomorrow night when I get back and just accept tomorrow I am off plan. Was supposed to be staying in London tomorrow night but coming home now and was supposed to be at a friends on Friday but that is now cancelled so at least I can consolidate the badness into one day!

dawnpreview · 01/05/2013 17:53

5lbs is great cider, well done!
I have been feeling a bit bloated after eating too, don't know if this is normal.

PennyHofstadter · 01/05/2013 18:10

Quick question, does the creamy cabbage keep in the fridge for a couple of days?

HeirToTheIronThrone · 01/05/2013 18:21

If anyone's looking for an amazing breakfast, this morning I fried leftover red cabbage and lardons in butter, and had it with a fried egg on top... DP and I are still on hols, so went to a new diner place for lunch - massive burger with cheese, bacon, avocado and watercress - minus the bun! And will have some bolognese sauce and broccoli later after hula hoop class. Also walked round 9 holes of golf in the sun with DP this morning so feeling ace!

If you're bloating, sounds like you're not drinking enough water.

Finbar - why the blueberries! ignores reference to biscuits

Penny - can't see why not, as long as it was put in the fridge asap after cooking

dawn - why no breakfast? And not much veg in your meals so far!

Cider - great loss! Are you eating enough fat/drinking enough water? Have a great time.

Viking - how can you possibly be bored with all the lovely food that you can eat on this WOE?! Check out the recipe thread for inspiration.

Evening all. Today:

B - scrambled eggs with parma ham and butter.
L - spinach salad with beef, pate and cheese.
D - Bolognaise with cauli rice and a smidge of grated cheese.

I am also having wine tonight after the all clear from a second mammogram and ultrasound due to a shadow on my first.

Finbar · 01/05/2013 18:48

Blueberries to make it interesting, add vit C and fibre!
I though berries were the least awful carby fruits.

But good point..will have omelette tomorrow
cheers

dawnpreview · 01/05/2013 19:06

Will try and drink more water. I am terrible for not eating breakfast, I am just not hungry until late morning/lunch time.
As for the veg- I did have a stir fry yesterday for dinner with lots of veg in it. I do love salad though, and could live on that every day!
I am not a very good cook, and am hoping by doing this I can learn to be more adventurous in the kitchen.

BIWI · 01/05/2013 19:15

Finbar NO FRUIT IN BOOTCAMP!

OP posts:
BIWI · 01/05/2013 19:17

... and you will get enough fibre and vitamin C from veg/salad - honestly! As long as you are making sure that your carbs are coming from veg/salad, that will do the job.

dawn - when Bootcamp is over, you can start to miss breakfast, but it's important at this stage that you do eat so that you are keeping your blood sugar levels stable.

Eve all, sorry to hear some are having some teething problems, trust us when we say as long as you stick to the rules this WOE is so easy to follow and so successful Grin

Today's menu:

B - coffee and cream
L- chicken and green salad with mayo
D- Another salad with bacon and avocado
loads of water.

I have just prepared food for tomorrow have massive salad, hard boiled eggs, chicken, water, pork scratchings should keep me going.. Smile

dawnpreview · 01/05/2013 19:21

I will force myself to eat breakfast. Thanks BIWI, I do need a kick up the backside sometimes!

NellVarnish · 01/05/2013 19:33

Wow, this thread moves fast!

dawn I don't often have breakfast during the week - at the weekends I normally have Lidl yoghurt which is delish, but during the week I have it about now (evening), as a sort of treat. Maybe I should try to have breakfast more often though.

Today I've had:

B: none
L: tuna mayo and salad and some curried cauliflower soup
D: 3 scrambled eggs with a bit of chopped up ham (naice, naturally)
S: Lidl yoghurt

Basically I am a bit of a lazy cook and cba really with fancynancy dishes so tend to make the same things over and over and then get bored. I need to up my game and make more of your lovely recipes. You are all soo good.

rubybricks · 01/05/2013 19:39

that's great news Yama!

difficult day here - feeling decidedly spaced out, wonder if this is normal - and due to extra-curricular scheduling issues, have only managed to have dinner in the past half hour, so ate 2 pepperami as snacks this afternoon (after hearing them mentioned so often)

it was all i could do on my way round the supermarket not to grab a piece of fruit and tuck in, the whole thing took far longer than it usually would due to obsessively checking the small print on everything!

hope i haven't diverted from plan too much, lunch was salad leaves, mayo, half a tin of tuna, some smoked salmon and a soupcon of grated cheese on top for interest . then two pepperami and finally a plate of leftover mashed swede (didn't seem entirely cooked to me, is that just what swede is like?) with some leftover chopped gammon (more processed meat Sad) and half an avocado. plus my bodyweight in water and just two cups of coffee (with cream) today.

still feeling positive about the plan, and now feeling lovely and full, but hope this lethargic/tired/fuzzy feeling goes away soon. going to hard boil some eggs now in readiness for tomorrow, hope everyone else has had a good day.

JaxTellerIsAllMine · 01/05/2013 19:42

today has been a shit day, but eating wise think I have done ok.

Bf - nothing, well black coffee
L- bought a little pot of stuffed olives, stuffed spicy peppers and sundried tomatoes, only 4 peppers, few toms and 100g olives. Couldnt eat it all.
Dinner was brocolli salad with lamb from yesterday.

I am so tired today, but I know I havent had enough water but been on the go, actually waiting around for RAC (puncture) then to garage with car, you know how long everything takes when you want them to hurry up.

Tomorrow eve I am going out with friends, but am driving so wont be drinking alcohol and we are either eating Indian which I can scoff without rice/nan bread or Thai, in which case I have no clue what to eat! Everything comes with noodles or rice mixed in.

Yama · 01/05/2013 19:52

Thanks Rubybricks - back on the water now. Smile

Doshusallie · 01/05/2013 19:53

Congratulations Yama, you must be very relieved. Xx

dawnpreview · 01/05/2013 19:57

Congratulations Yama, you must be relieved Smile

Just had steak with some blue cheese melted down into a sauce and the creamy cabbage. OMG that cabbage was absolutely amazing! I'm conscious of the dairy in that meal but I haven't had any other dairy during the day so hopefully it won't be too bad.

Yama · 01/05/2013 20:20

Awe, thanks guys. Only my dh knew as I didn''t want to worry my folks and family.

justpoppy · 01/05/2013 20:28

Yama that's fantastic news!

Today I've drunk so much frigging water I must have been on the loo every 15 minutes. Definitely 3lts if not more.

B - hard boiled eggs, sausages & mayo
L - protein shake
D - pork chops, buttered spinach and cauliflower cheese (fat Philadelphia microwaved with a few slices of cheddar - delicious!)

Have a thumping headache tonight tho and having my usual evening sweet crave. Keep telling myself its habit and one I need to break but I have so little willpower I find it really hard. I'm not at all hungry I just really want to snack.

Ruprekt · 01/05/2013 20:33
