Hey new thread since our old stopping smoking and not gaining-too--much weight has been lost from chat! BOO!!!

I am not a good role model however as I HAVE piled on a stone, well 12 lbs now, since giving up the cigs.
This must be rectified!
Hence joining in the club section!

Donnadoon hope you find this thread.

Everyone else pile in, join and be happy or miserable bastard ex smokers

Hi there fellow non-smokers.

I was on the other thread, but have name changed since then.

It's been over 4 months and I still get the taste of smoke in my mouth after exercising. Does anyone else get that?

Enjoy your spin class FantasticO. That sounds fun. Smile

Summer is also a great motivator for me too! I was quite thin before and I've gained 6 lbs since stopping. I suppose it isn't much, but it's all on my stomach and looks like a lady version of a beer belly.

At least the constipation has sorted itself out. That was one of the worst things about quitting. Tmi there, sorry!

Fran Well done on the spin class...you put my lazy ass to shame!!
Betty...Yay for no longer being constipated!!

Report
FrantasticO · 10/04/2013 21:29

Betty 6lbs is nothing...I'm like man mountain since I've stopped, all be it with better lungs!
Glad the constipation is sorted...not pleasant.

Donna your ass may be lazy but it has stayed thin, mine is morphing and trying to gain its own identity. It's much bigger than this Bear s ass I'm sure, think Winnie when he's stuck in rabbits house!

Spin was good in a hellish sort of way so another class added to the many!

Have another busy day and sleepovers planned for tomorrow so may the force be with me!

Catch up soon

Hi everyone am new to this but looking for some help / encouragement. Basically im a smoker and am looking to stop while also losing weight. Havnt a clue were to start esp with a six month old teething. Any advice? Smile

Welcome welove

Wish I had THE magic answer but I don't.

I gave up cold turkey at new year and just kept going.
Some days were rubbish but on the whole giving up the cigs has been ok-ish.
I've put on ten pounds though so I'd wait for someone with more self control to come along Grin

Tips?
Keep busy, keep busier, get out the house and don't smoke today...let tomorrow look after itself!

Sure donna will have some good tips she's kept me sane!
And shown me Bear

Oh and come on here to rant, that's been my biggest help.

Good luck

Hi Welove. It would probably be fair to say that some of us stopped smoking just after Xmas, ie after lots of good food and drink pigging out in my case. Smile

I still weight 6-7lbs more than I did before stopping, although I have managed to lose a couple of pounds so far.

Getting rid of temptation is good. Doing all of my grocery shopping online has really helped me. When I go into shops I always end up buying lots of treats that I didn't plan to buy.

Exercise helps and changing your diet helps. Exercise is great when you quit smoking. You forget what it's like to have functioning lungs!

Thanks for the tips girls so im planning to quit on the 16th my wee man will be 6 months so he always keeps me on my toes. Im thinking when i want a cig to take him out a walk instead. That way im staying busy and doing exercise kind of. Im quite nervous but i really want to do this Grin

Hi everyone welove I have a six month old too so know what you mean about teething..Gah
Anyhoo you've had some great advice already and like you say..going out walking is great physically and mentally
Like Fran I've found giving up the cigs really easy this time although to be fair I was hardly having any in the end so you might like to try cutting down first.. I went from 3 a day to nothing eventually.
I'd be lying if I said I didn't still fancy one but remind myself how disgusting they are and when you've been give up a while they really do stink when you whiff some one else's
Like Fran I have had to really battle not to over eat..but I think giving up smoking is more important than a few extra pounds.good luck for the 16 th
In other news I've ate nearly a whole pack of Walkers Sensations!!

Its nice knowing im not alone. Have had a really bad day. Dp has cooked dinner for himself and not me after a huge fight. I seem to smoke more when im stressed. On the plus i went three hours earlier without one which i was proud of and when i said to dp he just shrugged it off. Im counting on support here as its obvious i am not going to get it here! I would love sensations mmm... but well done everyone so far your all inspirations Grin

welove Are you going cold turkey? Sorry to hear about the fight with you and DP. Are you a heavy smoker. 3 Hours would have been an achievement for me and I was a heavy smoker.

Donna, how did you quit? I also agree that a few pounds is better than smoking. Did you have a smokers cough? Getting rid of mine has been onen of the best things about quitting. It used to wake me up in the night. Food also tastes amazing. Grin

Hi everyone!

I'll get the other news out firstGrin
I've evolved from a human to a constantly grazing mammal and I sure ain't pretty Sad

Donna I salute your efforts with the walkers but feel in a competition I could beat you hands down or hooves

Welove sorry to hear you had a shitty day, sounds like your OH needs a word in his ear, it's hard work looking after a baby. Hope you made an even nicer dinner and sat and scoffed the lot in front of him while making appreciative noises.

3 days til your quit day...you can do it!

Ha ha ha loving the rhino pic ...you are sooooo bloody funny Fran!!
I'm sure you ain't that big !! You don't arf make mr Larf though !!
Betty I was a stop starter smoker used to quit for ages and then start again thinking that "one won't hurt"
Anyhoo hoping this time is the real McCoy but for me it is mentally rather than physically giving up. I don't need one or fancy one at the moment but tomorrow is another day and I've just taken each day as its came and thought at worst " oh well if I'm still desperate tomorrow then ill buy some..no biggie" but obviously the craving passes and I'm 3 months down the line without putting myself under loads of pressure by saying to myself " you can't ever have one again"
But seriously I do think I'm finished this time because life really is better and cleaner etc without the evil weed !!
