Week 9 - New Year Low Carb Bootcamp - Nearly there ...

BIWI · 04/03/2013 07:49

So we enter the last two weeks of Bootcamp. Still time to drop another 2-4lbs!

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to come and confess all.

Remember, at the bottom of the spreadsheet is a tab for Ubercamp, if you fancy three strict days.

Good luck!

Yo yo yo losers!

B - none as I managed to smash a load if stuff in out kitchen and had to tidy that up - good start!
L - lettuce/leaves with leftover roast beef and mayo (in all honestly finally not eating and having leftovers was also quite a novelty)
D - lamb kleftiko (with feta) and cauliflower rice

I have drunk lots of water and sadly ate one grape without thinking but all good other than that!

BIWI hope work picks up for you soon.

Midnight hope your DD is ok and back home soon. Don't beat yourself up about eating, you can sort that once you're both home.

Ok I weighed this morning and despite the Nutella Binge etc I appear to have stayed the same. Which is somewhat of a miracle.

Today I've had:

B: LIDL ff yoghurt (not much as was in a hurry)
L: tuna mayonnaise on shredded lettuce with celery
D: salmon, roasted broccoli, creamy braised cabbage
S: slice of salami and a cube of cheese

Is this ok? Am I back on the wagon?

Well done to you losers and commiserations to the STSamers and gainers - and Thanks to BIWI and Willie for their sterling efforts!

Sounds like you're well back on the wagon! As long as plenty of water as well ...

I've been eating the huge celeriac and Swede dauphinoise I made for two days and still got some left! Day of left overs for me.

B: strange tvp/ almond flour/soy milk porridge again. Strange but tasty.
L: left over gammon, Swede/celeriac and brocolli
D: left over sausages, Swede/ celeriac and buttery leeks
S: half a pack of pork scratchings and a mini bar of aldi 85% chocolate.

Sore day today but my latest medication mix seems to have dealt with my constipation issues so hoping for a decent weigh in on Wednesday after a few weeks of stalling.

Black I would seriously look at portion size before cutting things out. I was shocked when I read how small "normal" portions are. I think we get used to restaurant portions which tend to be larger than they ought to be for every day and as you and I cook meals of restaurant quality it is easy to fall into the trap.

I think to get to the size you and I are at, we have to have skewed views of food and to have overeaten for years (I hope that doesn't sound too harsh) and we know, logically, that we have to address that.

It is only my personal view and, hopefully, others that know more will be along soon but I do think eliminating stuff from the diet is a fairly major step and would think quantity is much easier to address.

Black you will be fine I promise! Just think of all that extra yummy salt crystal butter you can slather on everything instead.... ummmmmm..... yummy! As Linford would say PMA or am I the only one that remembers that?

Interesting timid. Dr Bernstein (author of the diabetic diet) talks about something he calls the Chinese Restaurant effect, he says "During and after meals, the stomach empties a slurry of food mixed with liquid into the small intestine. The liquid passes through the small intestine and is absorbed, mostly in the large intestine. The solids stretch the walls of the small intestine as they slowly pass through. Cells in the upper part of the small intestine release hormones that signal the pancreas to produce insulin when they?re stretched. (The pancreas is the gland responsible for manufacturing, storing, and releasing insulin in the body.) Large meals cause greater stretching of the intestinal cells, which in turn will secrete proportionately larger amounts of these hormones."

He talks about a patient that used to have raised blood sugar after swimming and it turns out she was eating a whole head of lettuce before because she thought it was one of those things you can eat as much of as you like (and she called it a 'freebie'). For me it really struck a chord as on every way of eating/diet I have ever been on, I tend to spend much time working out what is the most I can eat but stay within the rules. So for example on weightwatchers, what were the lowest point foods that I could eat loads of. I have really tried this week to listen to my body again, eat more slowly and have smaller meals. It seems to be working. I sometimes have that feeling which I used to think is hunger but actually is often just 'not stuffed'!!!

Evening all. Haven't posted much for a bit but have been keeping an eye on the thread. Well done to all the losers, and keep on keeping on to everyone else. Sorry to hear you're feeling stuck black but you will will will lose - you certainly deserve it!

I've finally hit my 1 stone off over bootcamp (after a few weeks or up and down a pound or two) which I'm delighted with. I know I've hit this weight a couple of times during bootcamp but never still been there on a Monday, usually because of weekend 'treats'. So I had an ultra good week last week, and tried to be good over the weekend... Would like to lose another couple of pounds if possible but to be honest I'm pretty happy at this weight - lowest I've been in at least 5 years.

BlackAffronted - try Ubercamp. It's only for 3 days (and it's totally dairy-free). See what happens to your weight in those three days, and that should tell you whether or not dairy is an issue for you.

Have a look at the meals on Ubercamp and see what you think.

BIWI I have sinned ALREADY!

Well not sinned exactly but have just had a little bowl of yoghurt with a tablespoon of ground linseed stuff (aldi).

I just fancied a snicester.

Clearly I need a kick up the bahookie although at least it wasn't a bowl of Nutella! Grin

Ps am knocking back the water like it was Pinot Grigio ...

Well, after about 30 years of refusing to go near it I have discovered I don't mind cauliflower. Far from it being the satanic vegetable I imagined, I find it is actually quite inoffensive. Unlike the letter from the stupid bitch who fired me to hire someone cheaper, who has basically written accusing me of trying to steal a telephone headset. Wtf???

Report
Lavenderhoney · 05/03/2013 04:57

Bessie, my dd has spent 4 years refusing to even look at cauliflower:) but at the weekend she asked for some from the serving dish as " perhaps I'll like it now" she does and requests it all the time now:)

Bessie, I would say that if she is going to chuck around accusations like that she needs some proof Angry.

How awful.

....but cauliflower is indeed less inoffensive. ...tis lovely with a bit of butter, cream and cheese.

MrsHerculePoirot · 05/03/2013 06:30

Bessie that is awful! How horrible for you, hope you are OK. Sounds like a horrid woman to work for.

Timid, you talk like you are in my head :) I take huge pride in feeding people and creating amazing meals - so I do tend to overfill plates. I will look atthat before giving up beloved cream. We will be size 22 before the summer!

Biwi, when I do my shopping later, Ill get what I need for Uber, and start tomorrow. Worth a try!

So MrsH, do you think smaller meals are the way then? Could I change to 4 small meals do you think? That would actually suit my lifestyle actually. I might start using a side plate, as our normal plates are so huge, they dont even fit in our dishwasher!

Bessie, what a woman :( some people are just so petty.

I am making chicken kebabs tonight, what veg can I stick on the skewers? Onions is too carby, isnt it? Ive no shallots and neither Morrisons or Lidl have them in just now :(

WillieWaggledagger · 05/03/2013 07:34

bessie, that's truly horrible. hopefully something better will come along and this will have been a lucky escape.

black - do you have mushrooms or courgettes?

Report
BIWI · 05/03/2013 07:38

Oh Bessie Sad and Angry for you. That is totally stupid. Thank goodness you're not working for her any more though.

BlackAffronted - sounds like portion size is definitely something to aim for - but don't increase your meals. Just aim for 3 smaller meals - otherwise you could end up eating even more in the day! Re chicken kebabs - how about mushrooms? Do you have any leeks/green peppers? Or failing that, just chicken would be perfect.

Black

We use pasta bowls for most meals as our plates are also quite big. I find that if the plate is full then you feel full even if the plate is smaller.

Another tip - about 15 minutes before you are going to eat, drink a large glass of water.
