Well, I stopped smoking yesterday (and have gone on to e-cigs). Surprisingly, after 40 years of smoking 20-30 a day, I'm finding it easy, even though DH is still doing it in the house. Yay for e-cigs (and boo to the ongoing EU directive which is going to limit their strength to about 1/4 that of a normal cig - makes no sense if they're trying to encourage people to give up). I'm happy to report absolutely no increase in appetite, desire to nibble, cravings for sweet stuff or anything, really.
One of my excuses reasons for not trying to stop smoking before was that I didn't want to sabotage my weight loss efforts. After 48 hours of the e-cigs, I am confident that it's not going to happen. If anything, I've eaten less today than before.
Ah yes, just remembered why I'm posting (OK, may be having some no cig mind-fog!) - I just wanted to say that the techniques (mind games?) I've learned to keep me on the straight and narrow as far as low carbing goes, also seem to work for smoking. ie - I can't have that, it is not a treat, it is bad for me, and/or that is an unhealthy choice, when there are alternatives, and/or I may not notice a change today, or tomorrow, but 6 months down the line I'll be able to look back and see how far I've come - and so on - there are more!
Going a bit woo now, but I think patience is the key to everything. I'm not going to wake up tomorrow at my goal weight, neither will my chest be gunk-free after all these years of smoking. It's like gardening - seeds take time to grow, but if you don't plant them in the first place, or insist on digging them up once a day to see how they're growing, you'll never get them to produce anything. You just have to follow the instructions, and you'll get the results. Eat low carb, the weight will come off, whether or not you weigh yourself. Stop smoking, and your breathing, and general health, will get better. Plant a seed and it will grow. Woo!
Apologies, I think I'm getting high on oxygen!
