The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness is here

Three weeks to go!

How are you all doing?

Anyone Ubercamping this week?

Good luck. Still time to shed almost half a stone if you really stick to your knitting! Grin

Oh Bessie, I am so, so sorry to hear about your grandmother - that's awful. Sad

Was the job thing a shock or have you known for a while?

BlackAffronted · 25/02/2013 20:49

Oh Bessie :(

Bessie123 · 25/02/2013 20:49

It's all been a shock. The job thing - well, my boss has been lying to my face for the past 3 months, recruiting someone to 'join our team'. Treacherous bitch.

froufroulala · 25/02/2013 20:52

How awful Bessie, so sorry for you.

timidviper · 25/02/2013 20:53

Bessie Sorry about your day from hell, sending good wishes.

Black It will take a hell of a lot of evidence before the established wisdom changes. I got an invitation to a training sesion today on weight and health but have turned it down as I know it'll all be low fat crap and others on the course will look at me as though I have two heads if i query anything.

froufroulala · 25/02/2013 21:01

Just wanted to say thankyou for filling in the spreadsheet for me (Willie?), much appreciated x

Just came across an interesting blog post by the Diet Doctor:

"Do you want to lose weight? Here?s part 11 of 17 in a series of blog posts on the subject. You can read the whole series on the How to Lose Weight page. Note that these later parts of the series are primarily meant for people having a hard time losing weight despite doing ?everything right?."

  1. Eat less dairy products and nuts

Can one eat as much as one likes, and still lose weight? Yes, it tends to work just fine with a low-carbohydrate diet, as appetite regulation happens effortlessly.

However, despite the fact that a low-carbohydrate diet generally makes it easy to eat just enough, there are foods classified as low carb which become a problem in larger quantities. If you find yourself having a hard time losing weight on a low carb diet, you could try to be more careful with:

Dairy products (yoghurt, cream, cheese)
Nuts
Dairy products all contain a varying amount of lactose (the milk sugar), which slows down weight loss. What?s more, part of the protein in milk generates an insulin response, which can have the same effect. Consequently, cutting back on dairy products may accelerate weight loss. This applies especially to dairy products typically lacking in fat, such as regular milk and different yoghurts, but be careful with full-fat dairy such as cream and cheese all the same.

Exempt from all these dairy product warnings is butter, which is almost pure fat. Butter may be consumed liberally as desired.

Nuts, which are the second food to watch, contain a fair amount of carbohydrate, and it?s very easy to unwittingly scarf down large quantities. Cashew nuts are among the worst carb-wise ? you?ll find that they contain around 20% carbohydrate by weight. For someone following a strict LCHF diet with a 20 grams of carbs per day allowance, this means that consuming 100 grams (which happens in a flash!) will have filled their daily quota. Peanuts tend to be around 10-15% carbohydrate ? not putting them in the clear either.

So, for those of you having trouble losing weight: use nuts sparingly. When in a situation where nuts are an absolute must, know that the most harmless ones carb-wise are macadamia nuts (usually around 5% carbs), or Brazil nuts (around 3%)."

This confirms the thinking behind Ubercamp, I suppose!

oh good grief bessie that is all utterly rotten, i'm so sorry

Doshusallie · 25/02/2013 21:06

Bessie - a truly hideous day. Sending much love and sympathy. Sad

NoelHeadbands · 25/02/2013 21:11

Bessie Sad just awful

SavoirFaire · 25/02/2013 21:12

Sorry not been around for a few days, mostly because I have been struggling to stick to the WOE and had several significant (although mindful!) cheats. I totally forgot to weigh this morning, so not sure of the impact, but not expecting it to be a good result for me this week! Although I am still feeling in good shape and am back on track today.

Bessie big sympathy, that sounds truly awful.

littlermissstan · 25/02/2013 21:27

Oh Bessie, big hugs for you. I've had a shitty day too, which pitched me headlong into a giant binge which I really hoped I'd got over doing - two donuts, chocolate bar and biscuits. And then got home to find DP cooking me a special dinner of gammon and egg and celeriac chips and telling me how good I have been, and I sat and ate it feeling sick and fraudy and now I have slunk off to bed. Fuck fuck fuck Sad

ChoosandChipsandSealingWax · 25/02/2013 21:29

Ah Bessie I'm so sorry, such awful news about your grandmother, and that is utterly, utterly shit and scummy of your boss. The first bit with taxis and missed buses alone would have been enough to have me in tears let alone all the rest of it.

Have largely stuck to über camp Day 1 but had to have a snack at 4pm as was going to eat with the DCs at 6 but then DH said he would come home for supper after all, which meant eating at 9pm instead and just couldn't go from 12 (lunch) to 9 on nothing. So had an egg and 4 prawns wrapped in sushi nori. Now having the chicken supper.

Doshusallie · 25/02/2013 21:31

Greek yoghurt (I actually weighed my portion today - 250g which is a small bowl full. Can't imagine eating less than this would leave me full enough but it seems alot and is 7g carbs!). Bedrock, decaf tea with splash of milk

Leftover roast lamb with cabbage and leek, broccoli and sprouts, splash of gravy

3 egg omelette with smoked sausage and chestnut mushrooms

Pork scratchings (small bag), 2 teaspoons of sainsbos basics crunchy peanut butter, 1 rum and diet/caffeine free coke

Loads of water, 3 decaf black coffees.

Mfp has this at 21g of carbs. I try not to look at the fat and calorie counts.

Doshusallie · 25/02/2013 21:32

Bedrock = berrocca

BIWI · 25/02/2013 21:33

But you should be looking at the fat content, Dosh - make sure you're eating enough!

bessie Sad a horrendous day. I'm so sorry about your grandmother and your job. Take care of yourself x

BIWI a great article on saturated fats. Have forwarded to my dad who is starting to lower his carbs and increase his fats after years of being the only person I know to make white sauce by simply thickening milk with cornflour to avoid having to add butter at the start due to the fat!

Going to make a slow cook beef, spinach and turnip curry tomorrow with cauli florets rolled in curry powder and roasted to go alongside. Making it up as I go along, so here's hoping! It occurred to me that turnip and spinach could be used to make a fair approximation of sag aloo. I don't suppose anyone has tried this?

Jake congrats on day 1! Glad you are enjoying it so far Smile

NoelHeadbands · 25/02/2013 21:49

littlermiss in the words of Scarlett O'Hara, tomorrow is another day. So you've had a blip, forget it and move on.

Doshusallie · 25/02/2013 21:51

It says I've eaten 145g of fat biwi!!!! That's got to be enough.....surely......isn't it??????

JustasmallGless · 25/02/2013 21:54

Bessie am sorry about your crap day and your grandmother. Sending Positive vibes to you.

B bacon egg mushrooms
L boiled egg and mayo
S mange tout and pork scratchings
D chicken salad with mayo

halfthesize · 25/02/2013 22:09

Oh Bessie I am so sorry you have had such a shit day ((hugs))

DharmaBumpkin · 25/02/2013 22:17

Right, I need help!

I was doing really well on this WOE, steady losses & feeling great. Then DD2 was admitted to hospital last week & I had four days on the ward with her, not leaving, no chance of low carbing and in fact for over 24 hours all I got to eat was a packet of chocolate hobnobs

I have put on 1.5 kilos since my last weigh in, which is depressing, but at the same time I'm not hugely bothered as I know I can lose it again, and best will in the world the most important thing is my DD being better, my waistline is pretty trivial in comparison.

HOWEVER we are now out of hospital, I want to get back on the wagon, and I'm finding it really hard to get back into low carbing. It was easy - now it is sucky & unfair & I want to eat those biscuits but still lose weight goddammit.

Obviously that's not realistic, more's the pity, but what do I need to do to get my groove back? I was on bootcamp light, do I need to go back to the first two weeks again? Or just accept that getting back on the wagon is hard, and live through it?

BIWI · 25/02/2013 22:23

It might be a good idea to go back to Bootcamp, just to ensure that those cravings are really dealt with properly.

Make sure that you are cooking really tasty and enjoyable, treaty kind of food - something that you know you couldn't possibly eat on any other diet. And make sure that you're eating plenty of fat and drinking lots of water, so that you aren't hungry.

Read some of the links posted here (look on the resources section on the spreadsheet) to remind you why you're low carbing in the first place - not just about weight loss but also about the health benefits.

And sorry to hear about your DD - I hope she's well now?

BIWI · 25/02/2013 22:23

Dosh - that sounds fine - what were the proportions for carbs/protein?

OP posts:
MyHeadWasInTheSandNowNot · 25/02/2013 22:25

Bessie sorry you are having such a terrible time. How on earth did work just 'let you go' - no redundancy?

Did you know your Grandmother was ill? Will you be able to go and see her?
