Week 6 - New Year Low Carb Bootcamp _ Where I start to wave my big stick again

BIWI · 11/02/2013 08:39

Morning all

Here it is - come and confess all

Now. Three things have come to my attention.

  1. There is a lot of baking going on. Sweet things and bread substitutes.

Please remember that we are trying to avoid sweet things and that we are trying to avoid using artificial sweeteners.

  1. A lot most of you are falling off the wagon - either 'accidentally' (Hmm) or because situations arise where you have not planned ahead or deliberately.

This is not a very forgiving WOE. Lapses/cheats like this will have a big impact - at the very least you will not see any weight loss for a while - most likely, though, you will see a gain of around 3-7lbs. You really have to plan ahead and make sure you do everything you can to stay focused and avoid the carbs. Going out for a meal or to dinner at a friends does mean that you have to think about what's going to be on offer. You cannot assume that low carb options are going to be available (although most restaurants should be fairly easy to navigate).

  1. There is a lot of moaning about seeing a weight gain or not losing.

May I refer you to 1 and 2 above?

Please, please, please go back to Bootcamp/Bootcamp Light rules. They are there for a reason!

I can tell you that almost every time someone posts "I don't know what to do, the scales aren't moving for me/I've gained half a stone and I don't know why, because I'm being really good/have been following the rules" this is a massive signal that, actually, they haven't.

Fat is key.
Water is key.
Too much alcohol will stop weight loss.
Dairy - especially cream and cheese - can be an issue for many (yoghurt is better tolerated)
Artificial sweeteners are to be avoided.
Fruit should be severely restricted.

We have only five weeks of Bootcamp left, including this week. Let's get serious and back on track.

THC, you are an inspiration! I have a similar amount to lose, and you have just shown me that it is possible on this woe - thank you so much! Thanks

Talking of "sod it days" I am very proud that I havent had any yet since starting bootcamp! I thought Id have had one or 2 by now, I did eat a kitkat one day, but even then I stopped after that & reigned it in. This, for me, is a massive miracle! On SW, my "sod it days" would last for 6, and Id diet for one then wonder why I was gaining!

LB, hope you feel better/pain-free soon :(

Thanks BA. It's kind of ok - I have to accept it's happening, which sort of starts a stop-watch - instead of pain being open-ended I know it will finish. Lord knows if this makes sense. I'm always going to have these pain episodes, but a year's pain management has taught me that I can ride them out and the more fit and strong I am the less time they take to be over.

Must say that the thought of a lovely coffee with cream is cheering me up a bit.

I miss a lot on this thread - because it's so fast I only seem to get a brief snapshot of everyone elses struggles and successes, but the over-riding impression is of people really taking control of their health, which is exactly where I need to be.

TheHuman-that is an amazing loss!, well done.

LB- hope you're feeling better soon.

I've had a very bad week food wise. I've had visitors staying at the house, a lunch with a friend, a meal out last night and valentines day. I really thought I didn't go too mad but have have realised I've bread or choc almost every day this week.Blush I've put on 2lbs and I'm annoyed with myself.

Will be doing the bootcamp 3 day plan

Lavender - I'm sorry to hear about your flare-up Sad. How long, typically, do they last for?

Black - yay to you! It's half the battle being able to keep yourself reigned in, especially on this WOE.

BIWI - it really depends on what triggered it, how serious the trigger was and what I'm doing to cope with it. It's all due to an autonomic nervous system dysfunction - when a pain message gets sent it can be too strong or not turn off, or loads of other pain messages join in and there's a great big bundle of them going on.

This one is due to a back spasm - the muscle is probably back to normal, but the pain message hasn't been switched off - like turning a radio on, then when you try to turn it off you accidentally put the volume to max.

That's why I run and try and stay fit (and guilt non-disabled people to exercise Grin).

thehuman - just wow!
Went very off piste yesterday at a wedding - the food was afternoon tea followed by hog roast baps - but I knew I was going too, had a brilliant time and got to see two of my loveliest friends get married. Back on it today - DP wanted to stop for McD's on the way home so chicken and bacon salad for me, and the middle out of a small cheeseburger... I will be doing the 3 day über camp from Tuesday, quite excited really!
Hope the sun is shining for you all like it is here on the M25 :)

Oh blimey - just checking in after a week away skiing. Weighed myself this morning and it seems I have put on 4kg (9lbs) in one week - is it really possible. I ate well, but not excessively, although I had no control over the food as we were in a guest house with set meals at set times. I didn't go overboard on carbs and it was all healthy home cooked food. Really can't believe I could put on 9 lbs, especially as my husband didn't put on any weight hate him. Am going straight back to Bootcamp tomorrow and hoping that, combined with giving up alcohol for Lent, will shift the weight quite quickly. BIWI - what happens after the 10 week Bootcamp - how soon will the next one start?

Wow early bird that's going some!! You'd think with skiing all day you'd mitigate some of the damage!! I am skiing in 2 weeks in a catered hotel, am hoping the buffet options will be ok.....

Sorry to hear about your pain lavender Sad

Fry up, some cheese, and a big bowl of low carb veggie soup so far today. Bird in a bird in a bird for tea, courtesy of lidl, will report back later.....

Don't panic, TheEarlyBird! A lot of that will have been replenishing your glycogen stores, so once you're back on track (drinking lots of water/eating lots of fat/keeping the carbs low) you will lose it quickly.

The ubercamp is three strict days - look up the thread and you will see I have posted three days' worth of menus.

THC You are an inspiration to all of us, obviously for the weight loss but also for doing it in the face of obstacles that many of us would find insurmountable Thanks

Lavender Chin up and hope the pain eases soon. I had a 4 month experience of chronic pain and it has changed my views of health and wellbeing. I work in healthcare and I hope that awareness has changed my practice for the better.

Have been good today. Had a cooked brunch and, for tea, we are having a pork fillet, split down the middle, stuffed with those Peppadew baby peppers with cream cheese in then wrapped in prosciutto and roasted. Just need to sort out veg to go with it now.

Viper - your dinner sounds great, almost restaurant quality!

THC - wow what a loss! Well done!

Lavender - how grim. Hope it all goes away soon for you.

My meals today - 2 eggs omlette, too much cheese as snacks. dinner was pork crackling roast, with cauli cheese and roast butternut squash (not much) and gravy. The crackling was fantastic!

I need ideas for leftover pork shoulder now, as the joint serves 9!

I am proud of me.

Had a day out with the family and overnight at the Legoland Hotel Windsor.

Went to Zizzi and had meat platter, pork belly with spring greens, water and coffee.

No dinner as nothing suitable so stuck to fizzy water (as I really wasnt hungry)

DH fell off the LC diet and had a pizza, beer and finished off the boys chips in the evening (with no comment from me!)

Breakfast - sausage and mushrooms and a plate of cheese and ham. I avoided the waffles and pancakes and muffins and pastries. WOW!!! Coffee.

No lunch.

Dinner will be celeriac soup and a big bacon and avocado salad.

Did I do good?????
