Week 6 - New Year Low Carb Bootcamp _ Where I start to wave my big stick again

BIWI · 11/02/2013 08:39

Morning all

Here it is - come and confess all

Now. Three things have come to my attention.

  1. There is a lot of baking going on. Sweet things and bread substitutes.

Please remember that we are trying to avoid sweet things and that we are trying to avoid using artificial sweeteners.

  1. A lot most of you are falling off the wagon - either 'accidentally' (Hmm) or because situations arise where you have not planned ahead or deliberately.

This is not a very forgiving WOE. Lapses/cheats like this will have a big impact - at the very least you will not see any weight loss for a while - most likely, though, you will see a gain of around 3-7lbs. You really have to plan ahead and make sure you do everything you can to stay focused and avoid the carbs. Going out for a meal or to dinner at a friends does mean that you have to think about what's going to be on offer. You cannot assume that low carb options are going to be available (although most restaurants should be fairly easy to navigate).

  1. There is a lot of moaning about seeing a weight gain or not losing.

May I refer you to 1 and 2 above?

Please, please, please go back to Bootcamp/Bootcamp Light rules. They are there for a reason!

I can tell you that almost every time someone posts "I don't know what to do, the scales aren't moving for me/I've gained half a stone and I don't know why, because I'm being really good/have been following the rules" this is a massive signal that, actually, they haven't.

Fat is key.
Water is key.
Too much alcohol will stop weight loss.
Dairy - especially cream and cheese - can be an issue for many (yoghurt is better tolerated)
Artificial sweeteners are to be avoided.
Fruit should be severely restricted.

We have only five weeks of Bootcamp left, including this week. Let's get serious and back on track.

Phew!!! Whoosh Fairy came and I am back down to 180lbs (still not back down to 179lb) but I am going to do the strict 3 day thing with BIWI.

Can I have chicken breast instead of thigh? Not keen on thigh.

It is half term and I need to be good as we are in the house more where the snacks tend to be!

B - sausage, bacon and hb egg

L - avocado

D - Hunters chicken with celeriac chips and creamy leeks

Water. 2 cups tea.

Hello everyone.

Thanks for your very supportive messages. It has been said before but this really is a very supportive place.

I'd like to say sorry for my very 'sorry for myself' post.

I think the thing that got me down is that I have done really well so far, but it took hardly anything, a nibble of a pancake to set me off. I wanted to make pancakes for my dc, especially for my Dd as they were going to make some in class and I wanted to send something in so she could join in.

I have changed in that I didn't gobble all the pancakes and i didn't even eat all the lindt chocs. I had maybe about 10 pieces which isn't a lot considering how many there are in the box. So I have changed. But I was still so surprised, even though I knew I would be like it, at how much damage that little nibble meant.

I Wish I had found the pancakes too sweet and the chocolate too sickly, but no such luck. I could feel my shoulders relax as I ate them. So I haven't changed that much, yet.

Anyway, thanks again everyone and hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Xxx

BIWI · 15/02/2013 22:49

Chin up, mumat39 Thanks

You have done really well so far. Don't worry about what happened - it's past now. And you have changed! You can't expect the learned habits of a lifetime to suddenly be overturned. And sugar is highly addictive, and regarded by our bodies/brains as hugely pleasurable.

There's nothing wrong - ultimately - with enjoying treats every now and then. But we do need to be able to stop ourselves reverting to old habits.

You did well!

(And nothing wrong with being a bit 'me me me' - that's what these threads are all about)

BIWI, that meal plan sounds really good. We don't have eggs in the house though which is a shame.

I also find it really difficult to eat when my dc are around. So next week will be fun in one sense but not as far as food for me is concerned. I tend to try and grab a quick bite when I can when one or the other of them don't need me. Does anyone else struggle with this?

Today I managed a couple of slices of ham with Philly at around 2pm and then had a salad this evening with ham, lettuce, cucumber a tomato and loads of mayo and a slice of ham. I've been sort of finding it difficult to motivate myself into cooking all the time. I know this woe is really good for me and I know the food is a gazillion times better than what I was eating before, but since about the middle of last week, I have just had no energy for preparing yet another meal. Also when I have made something it hasn't tasted that great. Especially chicken, which always comes out really stringy and chewy and just a bit meh.

Anyway, thanks again. So much. It's amazing how much time you have to help all of us. Xxx

mumat39 · 15/02/2013 23:52

Thanks BIWI! Thanks

littlermissstan · 15/02/2013 23:53

Just had a dirty, nasty kebab. No pitta bread though :) Feels very odd that that is probably ok!

Valdeeves · 16/02/2013 01:06

Mumat39 - it's really hard to motivate yourself to cook sometimes - try and find the fast tasty options - like salmon and cream cheese rolls or marinated salmon in the oven (garlic, chilli flakes, oregano, butter, salt, pepper.)
Go for fast veg like wilting kale and spinach in butter.

I do alot of frittatas too - easy and fast.
Are you drinking enough water as I think that makes a fast difference to your appearance and helps motivate you?

Valdeeves · 16/02/2013 01:10

Btw cannot get pink dress to link but if you go to website you'll see it.

My food intake rubbish today:

Quick buttery scrambled eggs, tiny piece of ham, pork scratchings and that's it - hubby was supposed to bring home lovely salmon for tea but ended up working late so nothing for tea really.

Nevermind - better tomorrow!
Night ladiesxxxx

Valdeeves · 16/02/2013 01:28

It's called Parri I think

Lavenderhoney · 16/02/2013 03:13

Valdeeves, I like your dress. And well done to anyone visited by the whoosh fairy:)

Dd still not great and was awake every two hours with earche.been giving her calpol and she has a cold too. I am so tired and dh is always working. I don't want any carbs though, except maybe a chocolate biscuit but I just don't have one.

B- Eggs, mushrooms, bacon
L- brie, cucumber sticks, saucisson
D- pan fried foie gras with chopped cauliflower pan fried too and I didn't have any toast! I did have a glass of red wine though.

JustasmallGless · 16/02/2013 07:17

Lavender that's rubbish. My dd used to really suffer with her ears when she was younger. I was advised to do paracetamol then ibruprofen two hours later to manage the pain and repeat, not exceeding maximum 24 hour dosage. If she's not allergic to nurofen could you try that?

halfthesize · 16/02/2013 07:57

Good morning allBrew
lavender sorry to hear dd is poorly, hope she gets better soon.

mumat I too go through stages of can't be bothered to cook etc, I think we all do. I now ensure I have things in fridge to have, so on a Sunday I always marinade and cook small pieces of chicken. I also cook pork rind, to make pork scratching and finally I make a batch of home made burgers(these can b frozen). all these things can be kept a few days in tubs and with a bag of salad quick meals/snacks. Smile

Valdeeves · 16/02/2013 08:01

Halfthesize - I think homemade burgers are the way forward - I do them too and you can whack pancetta or bacon on the top with cheese and shallots and you've got a cheese burger.

Valdeeves · 16/02/2013 08:07

Lavender - my little boy had quite a few infections when he was little too - hope your DD feels better soon xxxxx

Tigglette · 16/02/2013 08:25

Lavender, hope your little on is better soon - that level of tiredness is so hard to cope with.

After last's weeks carb disaster I've really stuck to plan this week and have lost the three pounds I gained, and another three along with it! So, I've now lost 14lbs in 5 weeks with one major slip up. I'm going to save BIWI's three day plan for when I get a bit stuck, it looks fab.

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

JustasmallGless · 16/02/2013 08:29

Wowsers- well done Tigglette. You have a good weekend too.

I'm off to my friends 40th which is a spa day, meal at night then a karaoke session. Oh dear.

BIWI · 16/02/2013 08:58
Grin

How lovely awful, Gless. You will be good, won't you? as if

OP posts:
prettybird · 16/02/2013 09:23

Was helping dh run a wine tasting/cheese and wine last night at a quiz night at the rugby club. My meal last night therefore consisted of not as a much cheese as usual and not a single cracker Grin

I also only drank water and didn't touch a single drop of wine. . It helped that I "knew" all the wines already

Dh is starting Boot Camp tomorrow - it was going to be today but there are a couple of open bottles of wine that he "needs" Hmm to finish.

I'll get him added to the spreadsheet - he says he doesn't want to be "Mr Prettybird" and instead has suggested "Handsomebird" Wink

halfthesize · 16/02/2013 09:24

have fun Gless Grin

AuntieMaggie · 16/02/2013 09:34

So I bought some pork belly pieces in Tesco how do I cook them?

BIWI · 16/02/2013 09:36

Grin @ Handsomebird. Shouldn't that be Handsomecock?

Yama · 16/02/2013 09:43

I know this isn't the question thread but can I ask one?

If any of you have been ill with sore throat/swollen glands/generally unwell, did you retain more water?

I've stuck with strict Bootcamp this week but have gradually gone up in weight. Down this morning though. Dh says it's just the normal fluctuation in water retention.

It's just out of sync with the last 6 weeks and I wondered if my unwellness was to blame.

Oh, I have still gone to work so it's not lack of exercise.

Yama · 16/02/2013 09:48

Lavenderhoney - my dd has had a sore ear all week. It has had her up in the night with the pain. Took her to the doc yesterday and after 2 doses of Amoxycillan, she is pain free.
