Week 6 - New Year Low Carb Bootcamp _ Where I start to wave my big stick again

BIWI · 11/02/2013 08:39

Morning all

Here it is - come and confess all

Now. Three things have come to my attention.

  1. There is a lot of baking going on. Sweet things and bread substitutes.

Please remember that we are trying to avoid sweet things and that we are trying to avoid using artificial sweeteners.

  1. A lot most of you are falling off the wagon - either 'accidentally' (Hmm) or because situations arise where you have not planned ahead or deliberately.

This is not a very forgiving WOE. Lapses/cheats like this will have a big impact - at the very least you will not see any weight loss for a while - most likely, though, you will see a gain of around 3-7lbs. You really have to plan ahead and make sure you do everything you can to stay focused and avoid the carbs. Going out for a meal or to dinner at a friends does mean that you have to think about what's going to be on offer. You cannot assume that low carb options are going to be available (although most restaurants should be fairly easy to navigate).

  1. There is a lot of moaning about seeing a weight gain or not losing.

May I refer you to 1 and 2 above?

Please, please, please go back to Bootcamp/Bootcamp Light rules. They are there for a reason!

I can tell you that almost every time someone posts "I don't know what to do, the scales aren't moving for me/I've gained half a stone and I don't know why, because I'm being really good/have been following the rules" this is a massive signal that, actually, they haven't.

Fat is key.
Water is key.
Too much alcohol will stop weight loss.
Dairy - especially cream and cheese - can be an issue for many (yoghurt is better tolerated)
Artificial sweeteners are to be avoided.
Fruit should be severely restricted.

We have only five weeks of Bootcamp left, including this week. Let's get serious and back on track.

Waves to Jacs
Goes in cold sweat at Hama Beads.

Lovely post and so glad you are having fab hols too

BIWI - a strict three days in week 7 is a splendid idea. It'd be a good opportunity for me to look honestly about what carbs have really crept back in.

For non egg-eaters, breakfast could be appropriate dinner leftovers, maybe? I'm having a tinker with some swede and courgette rostis which might be good to batch-cook for three days-worth of breakfast. They've currently got parmesan in to bind so need work...

NoelHeadbands · 15/02/2013 16:49

Hello all

I won't follow the menu plan I don't think, it's a bit awkward at work and some of the stuff I'm not all too keen on but I'll do a strict three days and wave my pom poms about anyway Grin

B- yoghurt
L - pork leftovers
T - lamb dopiaza (shallots instead of onions) with spicy swede wedges

BIWI · 15/02/2013 18:00

What aren't you keen on Noel? (Although I think crafting something that everyone will like will be an impossibility!)

The sun was shining here today, so me & DS headed to the beach with some friends :) Spents hours walking along the shore & playing at the park. We stopped at a chippy for lunch, to eat at the harbour, and luckily they sold smoked sausage, so I had that instead of chips. Feel lovely, all windswept & tired Grin

I have half a leg of lamb for tomorrow, what on earth do I do with it? Ive never cooked lamb before. Help!

BIWI · 15/02/2013 18:40

How lovely! I wish I lived near the sea.

BIWI · 15/02/2013 18:43

Re the lamb - I make little cuts all over it and shove slices of garlic into each one. Push them right down into the meat. If you have any rosemary, put some leaves of rosemary in as well.

Season the joint well with salt and black pepper, then into the oven. I put it into a really hot oven for about 20 minutes, then turn it down for the rest of the cooking time.

If you like, you can chuck a glass of wine in the roasting tin as well - will make lovely gravy.

Ignore me BIWI I just looked again and the only things I'm not too keen on are mushroom omelette, avocado and hm coleslaw Grin

You're right though, pleasing everyone would be tough!

halfthesize · 15/02/2013 18:48

Hi All, BIWI Im in for the 3 day challange.

Gless your meal sounds scrummyGrin Black sounds like you had a fantastic day, wish I lived near the seaEnvy

So after LCarbing since April I went shopping today and purchased 2 pairs of size 8 jeans from New Look and was told by a stranger I looked great, I am still grinning. This time 4 years ago after having my 3rd child I was 4 stone heavier than I am today, god I love this woe it really has changed my life, I actually feel confident again and dare I say it more sexyWink

NoelHeadbands · 15/02/2013 18:51

Whit woo at half Wink

ChoosandChipsandSealingWax · 15/02/2013 19:04

BIWI · 15/02/2013 19:42

Au revoir!

Valdeeves · 15/02/2013 19:44

Loving that Half! Well done you.

BIWI - going to try the lamb garlic thing.

Black - seaside sounds amazing.

Choos: With your school, just make it plain nicely that it's their job to support your child in mainstream. That comment they made is really odd.

I am totally stalled and waiting for movement. I've never done anything but full Bootcamp but I had one meal out with a pudding which I feel really affected me. I think it's portions and dairy now - I think I'm going to have to really scale down to drop now. I'm 5.5 and 9 and half stone - medium build, apple shape.
Went dress shopping this week for cousins wedding Tuesday and it totally depressed me. My midriff just made everything look wrong - I carried really high with both kids so my mid section and tummy are really bad. Eventually I chose something I'll try and post the link.

Just annoyed as working so hard at this woe and really want to drop last few pounds of thighs and middle - just to make my figure look a little bit younger I guess.

BIWI · 15/02/2013 19:46

Valdeeves - why don't you try the three day thing? I'm in just the same position as you and really need to get things moving as well.

Valdeeves - that dress is lovely! You will look gorgeous.

Have you tried doing some specific exercises to tone your tummy? The plank is pretty effective but not for everyone if you had separated muscles when pregnant.

Half - you little minx, you Wink
Really chuffed for you - you have worked so hard at this and deserve lots of lovely compliments.

Black - am v jealous especially as I can guess which beach you have been to. Glad you had a lovely day out.

We have been stargazing looking for the asteroid.

Foodwise today have been picking really as at home with DC and their 3 friends
B Bacon, egg, mushrooms
L leftover lamb casserole, couple of spoons of Greek yoghurt
S Cheese, cocktail sausages, cucumber
D Will be bolognaise sauce with buttered cabbage

I've had 5 kids to look after today - I'm having a glass of red.

BIWI am liking the no dairy and being strict for a few days idea. Maybe that will boost me. Although I know exactly what my problem is.
Too much booze and carb creep.

Doshusallie · 15/02/2013 20:11

Hmm not sure I could do no dairy....which means I should probably consider it.

That dress is lovely! Will you wear it with a jacket? What shoes? (Nosy)

Had a lovely few hours with my friend having tea at hers, great to catch up.

Hip hip hooray it's Friday!!!

BIWI · 15/02/2013 20:14

Yep. No dairy is going to be a killer for me, because it means no coffee! But I think it probably has to be done.

Definitely a victim of carb creep here, as well as too much booze.

OP posts:
DangerousMouse · 15/02/2013 20:28

I wont be joining in with your 3 days, I don't eat much of that menu, but I'll try and have a low dairy few days with you.

Regarding my lindt bunny slip up, it actually started a whoosh.. (not recommending it though!) Very strange, I had been the same weight for 3 days, had the little slip and lost half a kg that night.

Valdeeves · 15/02/2013 20:28

BIWI - I will be in after wedding Tues/Wed - cant really control what I eat there. It's a good meal plan you've made - I cook alot of your meals to be honest - and they are tasty. Infact you've all improved my cooking enormously.

Doshusallie - I'm on the hunt for a decent short shrug or jade wrap - it's a bit of a mission - they had no matching items in store. I'm wearing it with black satin open toe heels.

The dress I really wanted to buy was pastel pink silk with capped sleeves and a short bell skirt aka Jackie O - Ted Baker. But I just knew that the baby would be sick on it ( as she covers me about three times a day) and it would look horrendous and it was £125 and I knew I'd never wear it again as too warm for summer weddings. No one else I know is getting married. Gorgeous dress though for those of you who don't have a sicky baby!

I'm doing the 30 day shred at the mo to help my general shape. Going off to do it now. Kids just in bed - then hopefully do some nice salmon later.

Nice talking to you ladies! Xxxxxx

JustasmallGless · 15/02/2013 21:03

Give us a link to the other dress then
no weddings for me this year though

FurFoxAke · 15/02/2013 21:07

I'll do the three day thingy too! Have had Dd's friend back for tea tonight which was lovely. Ha. Bit of an argument with ds1 but I still kept away from those crime eggs. Luckily all the kids except babyTwit are going away for half term so less stress all round.
Was proper tempted to have creamy latte as I'm tired but refrained as I am scare of BIWI's Big Stick.
Today I have had;
Soft eggs and butter
Chicken, lots of spinach, creamy garlicish mushrooms
Pâté and celery
Yoghurt
4 litres of water , am nearly though my fifth

Tomorrow I will go without yoghurt, I've run out hehehe

Hope everyone is doing ok Smile
