Can't link to this from old thread but thought I'd start a new one as the old one was getting full and kept crashing my kindle.

OP posts:

bssh I eat with my Dh once kids are in bed most nights. If I must snack I have

toasted food doctor seeds
some fruit
soy beans
sweet fire baby beetroom
a couple of cubes of feta and a couple of olives
handful of salted popcorn

I find I need something flavourful so salty things do it for me.

I am shredding in a minute or two...I am a bit scared!

lulu I bet you are starting to look super toned, don't get too hung up on what the scales say!

I made chorizo and butter bean soup and it is so yummy, does anyone want the recipe?

DoubleMum · 23/01/2013 19:01

Mmm nilby I love that sweetfire beetroot. Wish it was cheaper.
(Yes please to the recipe BTW)
I often eat relatively late - used to never be before 9 but thankfully DH is not in that job anymore. I find it hard not to finish off the children's tea I must say.

nilbyname · 23/01/2013 19:13

chorizo soup
Fry off a handful of chopped chorizo till starting to crisp.
Take out of pan and set to one side, in the oil that is left behind gently saute some finely diced onion, carrot and celery (1 of each) for about 10 minutes.
Add a tin of plum tomatoes and some stock, I used chicken. Simmer for 30 minutes at least. Add in 3 smashed up cloves of garlic.

Blitz in a blender
Add back in the cooked chorizo and a tin of drained butter beans.
Voila!

I have no idea if it is calorific....I used about 100g of chorizo and that comes out at 420 cals. But that is total. I think I will get about 6-8 servings from my batch. So that is pretty good actually!

missnevermind · 23/01/2013 19:34

Back to the cups of Tea for a minute.
I log half a pint of milk every day as a snack and account for my tea out of that.

BsshBossh · 23/01/2013 19:40

Oooo great tip about salty foods nilby - tomorrow I'm going to be prepared with feta, soya beans (might add rock salt), olives and popcorn. Actually my stick thin MIL often has a similar platter in between meals if she knows her dinner will be late. Actually, I often give feta, olives etc to DD as part of her dinner (at 5pm) - don't know why I didn't think I could have the same but later on...

*DoubleMum", I found it really hard to begin with but now I always throw DD's leftovers straight into the food compost bin. Unless she's left something light - it's why you sometimes see "carrot - half - 15cals" in my food diary under snacks!

TeaMakesItAllPossible · 23/01/2013 19:57

Mooing?

TeaMakesItAllPossible · 23/01/2013 20:07

8 almonds and 20g of 70% chocolate are blelly good for a late night feast. As are olives. Or dare I recommend it ... sometimes a slimline G&T as they're only 60 calories.

Soya beans come in a frozen bag don't they?

I have only ever mooed when I'm being Mummy cow or when giving birth. I wonder if I make night noises. Will have to inquire from DH.

I'm still chesty - not as in norks, as in wheezy bent-over getting-on-a-bit gimmer - and I haven't been able to eat properly for a few days. I don't think this is a good thing as I've had five days in a row in starvation mode which probably means my metabolism has given up. It's weird because I can still put effort into exercising without exhausting myself.

BsshBossh · 23/01/2013 20:24

Well, I just had 10 olives (50 cals) which has done the trick. It's 8.30 and DH not due back until 9 and he wants to cook Thai fish cakes (from scratch). I know they will be delicious so will wait it out. But it's hard! Thank God for those olives nilby.

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 23/01/2013 20:30

I've had a baaaad day after being good for three weeks.
When I came home tonight I was cold, miserabe and starving and instead of waiting for tea (which was aready in the oven) I ate 5 slices of toast and butter and crisps then I ate tea and now I've eaten 4 chocolates.

And to add insult to injury when I weighed this morning (after being good all week) I'd put half a pound back on

Ahhhh, I shall have to get back on track tomorrow.

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 23/01/2013 20:34

Oh fuckity fuck - I've just logged it and I am 700 calories over.

Shout at me please.

BsshBossh · 23/01/2013 20:39

Jumped, just start back up tomorrow. I've had many many days like that (but been over by a few 1000 many times!) but still lost weight. Persistence and starting over the next day are key.

DoubleMum · 23/01/2013 20:40

We need to implement emergency measures for you. You need immediately available healthy snacks to go to in such a situation so that you can forget about the toast and chocolate. So far I think we have olives, feta, almonds...and I'll add muller lights, crispbread with a cheese triangle spread on top, those Nairn biscuit/cracker thingys, or if in the need for something very sweet, a meringue nest or a curly wurly. Plus if you like jelly you could make up some sugar free jellies to have ready for snaffling in the fridge, and keep ham/cooked chicken for the same purpose.

DoubleMum · 23/01/2013 20:43

My Paul McKenna gastric band book has arrived but I don't feel in the mood to start reading it and I somehow feel I ought to.

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 23/01/2013 20:45

Thank you Bssh and Double.

Right, I'm doing my Tesco order and I'm going to make sure it has lots of good things on it.
I think part of the problem tonight was there wasn't really anything that was good for me to eat so I just caved in and ate and ate and ate

I'm also a little limited in what I can eat because I have a brace but I shall put my thinking cap on and sort myself out.

Thank goodness for this thread otherwise I would have just given up

I am pissed off with myself cos I was doing well, and also I feel a bit sick now!

Lizzylou · 23/01/2013 20:49

JUMPED!!!
5 slices of toast!? Noone needs that much bread!
Are you comfort eating? It sounds like it, did you enjoy it? Could you have stopped at 1 slice?

You need to take control.
Sorry, I sound really mean and shouty but it sounds like you ate almost on auto-pilot, without thinking.

You will lose weight if you log and exercise and stay within limits, some weeks not so much, but it will GO! You can bloody well do this!!!

And yes, I am being all stern and I moo in my sleep. Often. Blush

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 23/01/2013 20:51

I know Blush

I've been freezing cold all day and I came in and DH was eating toast and I just joined in.

Ironically I haven't eaten bread for about 4 weeks.

Lizzylou · 23/01/2013 20:58

Onwards and downwards now Jumped, what's done is done and we all splurge.

Why have you not eaten bread for 4 weeks? I love toast, but restrict it to the weekends only. Is it better for you to have a "little of what you fancy" rather than depriving yourself and then setting yourself up for a binge do you think?

Sorry for being so shouty!!!

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 23/01/2013 21:01

I'm not really a bread fan (believe it or not) so I find it easiest to avoid it if I want to lose weight.
We never ever have white bread in the house but tday DH had only been able to get a white ready sliced loaf and that, toasted is my weakness.

I know it's no excuse but I'd had a particularly crap day at work so my resistance was low Smile

Lizzylou · 23/01/2013 21:21

Aaah, the lure of garage bread, nowt like it!
I am sorry Jumped (think I was channelling MO or summat)!

Tell DH not to try and scupper your hard work though!

I worked out today that I have 10 weigh ins until my big 4-0. I still need to lose another 23lbs to get to my goal. At the rate I am going, I will be lucky if it is 10lbs.
Bit gutted. I know I could do low carb or VLCD and lose 10lbs in 2 weeks but I would rather like to see in my 40th year having nailed this food lark. Slow and steady I think this time. I am sick of yo-yo ing.

DoubleMum · 23/01/2013 21:35

Jumped I understand exactly what happened, as all too often that is me, I have to have food NOW and I could eat literally anything sweet/fatty including an entire packet of biscuits or an entire tub of Haagen Dazs. And I do eat on auto pilot. However this is why I'm fat. I must conquer it.
Lizzy you're right. 2 yrs ago I did the cheap equivalent of Lighter Life, and lost almost 2 stone, but it just went back on again.

juneybean · 23/01/2013 21:41

A load of cadbury Heroes just fell into my mouth :(

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 23/01/2013 21:45

juney join me in the corner of shame - we can start again tomorrow

I've organised all tomorrow's meals and thought about sensible snacks - I have a Tesco order coming on Friday and it is stuffed full of good foods.

TeaMakesItAllPossible · 24/01/2013 08:33

Morning Chiefs.

Weighed in and no weight loss this week Sad. Bastard new scales also informed me what percentage I was fat Shock

just keep swimming, just keep swimming

Herecomesbod · 24/01/2013 08:45

Morning Chiefs.

I know exactly what you mean about the snacking Doublemum. I get that "must have something right now" feeling too. Because I'm doing WW as well as MFP I've found it helpful to parcel up snack food in the cupboard and label it with its points value. That way if I end up snacking I know how many of each thing I can have without going over my points allowance for the day. 'Tis hard though.

Lizzy agree about the steady weight loss. I want this to be a long term solution.

Am seeing a personal trainer later today. Actually I went to him after DD was born 3 years ago. It was all going really well then I went back to work & the effort just tailed off, then I got pregnant with DS so couldn't train as hard as I had been, so we're picking it up again now. Will let you know how it goes...

DoubleMum · 24/01/2013 09:11

Good luck Herecomesbod
Tea even I don't like your scales.
I had a crisis moment this morning- DS discovered my stash of turkish delight Mullers. Luckily he didn't like them. Wink
