Can't link to this from old thread but thought I'd start a new one as the old one was getting full and kept crashing my kindle.

I agree about looking at a weekly rather than daily view with regard to calories. Although, I tend to be reasonably stable in the calories I eat per day at the moment. I think that is because I am hungry and could easily eat more pretty much every day. Grin my portion sizes are definitely smaller and I am feeling full quicker though. I am in a slightly sadistic way actually enjoying feeling hungry!

laurenamium · 04/02/2013 08:10

Morning everyone! Just checking in, I'm going to start shredding again from today if my lungs hold up I'm also back at work properly after being ill so ill be logging a bit more exercise again!

I haven't read the thread as I'm just going to jump back in so I hope everyone is ok!

bleedingheart · 04/02/2013 10:40

I think i would find it helpful to view it weekly rather than daily on MFP, I tend to go over on Fri/Sat but generally a 1000 calories or so under for the week.
I only managed 800 yesterday and although I felt hungry I couldn't find anything I wanted to eat so drank peppermint tea and had some soup. I have hit a bit of a wall with the weight loss and feel rather bloated. I have cut right down on sugar now so that is something.

Congrats to all those who are keeping on, keeping on!

buzzybuzzybeeshoes · 04/02/2013 10:56

Dinkydoos I hear you. Had a baaaaaaad weekend. Could only bear to log Sunday. Also I've been stuck in the house as DD2 has got chickenpox and my bastard knee is STILL SORE THANK YOU JILLIAN. Got out for a short walk yesterday and this morning.

Sneaky peek last night showed 3lb ON so need to do some serious damage limitation. goes to make soup

DoubleMum · 04/02/2013 12:13

Buzzy I had a sneek peak and I too had put on (proper weigh-in tomorrow) so trying to be good today but seem to be permanently hungry grrrr!

BsshBossh · 04/02/2013 14:40

Afternoon Chiefs. buzzy, DoubleMum don't weigh yourself so often - hide those scales - it's so easy to get demoralised. Though on the other hand I can see how it may motivate you to be good today. Last year I weighed monthly. It was great seeing the bigger losses that way. This year I'm tempted to weigh weekly (now I have new digital scales!) and especially because I am trying the 5:2 thing - I might weigh this week but then go to fortnightly or longer...

Anyway, after the weekend indulgences (remember that 1400 cal lunch!?!) I am glad to be fasting today. Haven't eaten and don't plan on doing so until dinner with DH tonight; have been to the gym; feel great (must be all those weekend calories still fuelling me). My DH is super fit and lean but he's trying to 5:2 diet purely for the health benefits (though he'll probably only do one day) so I'm very happy today - makes it easier somehow as we'll both be eating a 500 cal dinner tonight.

WiseKneeHair · 04/02/2013 15:05

Afternoon chiefs.
Agree with Bssh about not weighing too often I don't practise what I preach buzzy and double do you usually weigh in the morning? If so, a sneaky evening weigh in might very well be 2-3 lbs heavier anyway.
Keep at it anyway. Weigh in for me tomorrow, hoping to break the 160lb mark and go under.

kerala · 04/02/2013 15:09

Can I tag along have been lurking as this thread has coincided with my first ever "diet" though I prefer looking at it as changing how I eat. I have lost nearly half a stone since January 8th! So hard though. Porridge for breakfast soup and ryvita for lunch no snacks. Dinner is on a smaller plate and have tried to cut out wheat. Every so often I slip up though and will not give up wine at the weekends. Was trying to do 5:2 but kept thinking I was going to faint. Exercising almost every day.

WiseKneeHair · 04/02/2013 15:17

Welcome kerala and well done on the loss. I agree we are not dieting, we are eating more healthily. Are you on MFP? If so, feel free to add me, I am HappyKite on there. You'll get great support, especially when you are tempted to slip up.

DoubleMum · 04/02/2013 16:00

I weigh in the morning (not every morning!) and I prefer to not have any surprises.

buzzybuzzybeeshoes · 04/02/2013 16:08

Hi Kerala good to have another chief on board! I am shrewvole on myfitnesspal if you want to add me.

Bssh you're right about not weighing too often... but I now have such an effed up relationship with my diet and weight that I fear I'll put on half a stone in a week if I don't weigh myself EVERY night Sad

Afternoon Chiefs.

Hi Kerala - I'm WillStillNeedTeaAndGin on MFP. I'm 5:2ing, shredding and/or exercising and logging stuff on MFP to help educate me that cakes every day are not a good thing.

Doing a fasting day today - went for a run at lunch as exercise suppresses my appetite. It's the first run I've done in a year or two and I managed to run for 45 minutes non-stop. I feel like I've really achieved something particularly as I managed in that 45 minutes three very steep climbs. Chicken and Tofu with veg for tea. Mmmmm. Not.

TeaMakesItAllPossible · 04/02/2013 16:16

Awww buzzy - you won't put on that much weight in a week if you continue to log and burn.

Could you have a go at not weighing yourself until next Wednesday this week just to see how it goes?

BsshBossh · 04/02/2013 16:32

Welcome kerala and well done on the loss - that's amazing! Tea the 45 min run is incredible. I started C25K last year and really enjoyed the endorphin rush and fresh air but alas my knees took a hammering so I had to leave running behind. I am envious of all runners.

Herecomesbod · 04/02/2013 16:44

Afternoon Chiefs.

Just checking in to say welcome kerala and well done on losing. Am trying hard not to lose focus at the moment, as DS (4 months) has suddenly decided to wake several times in the night to feed instead of sleeping 8 hours as he had been doing. Tiredness makes me want carbs. Carbs make me fat. Fat makes me not happy! But the biscuit tin keeps beckoning.

I am also trying not to obsessively weigh every day. V. hard not to though. Still, I am slowly starting to notice a difference to the way clothes fit. Hoping to be out of maternity jeans in 2 weeks as DH has booked a nice restaurant for Valentine's Day and I want to wear nice stuff dammit!

To those of you on the 5:2 fast - are you finding you are getting used to not eating on fast days?

nilbyname · 04/02/2013 16:53

Hello all, sorry I have not been about. I have the lurgy. I feel wretched and I know I have lost my weightloss mojo. I will read the thread and come back in a later

Lizzylou · 04/02/2013 17:01

Hi kerala Smile

Tea, 45minutes is amazing for your first run after all that time! Big respect!

I had a mammoth weekend of exercise so am hoping for a loss this week. We are supposed to be getting snow tonight again!

I weigh twice a week normally. I do feel more toned this past few days though, can certainly feel the exercise working. At last!

Lizzylou · 04/02/2013 18:01

Forgot to say get well soon nilby and Hurrah for feeling better Lauren.
Trying to eat healthily when ill is hard.

RandallPinkFloyd · 04/02/2013 18:06

I think it's over between me and Jillian. Sad

I did 9 days straight and there was absolutely sod all difference in my stamina between the first and ninth time. Every single move felt exactly the same.

I'm going to keep doing some of the abs moves but it seems pointless to do 20 minutes of something that's not doing anything. Think maybe I'm just too fat for it.

I've got Zumba for the wii so may give that a go instead. Plus I've got a cross trainer so can do a bit on there most days. (It's dull as shit but it does work)

dinkydoos · 04/02/2013 18:32

randall nooooooo! Don't leave me with Jillian!!!!
Don't worry re the stamina, I bet you're toning up.

Hope everyone's good, welcome kerala feel free to add me on mfp, but i'm not the best inspiration ....

Day 8 of shred today, and looks like we booking holiday for Easter to see my sis in Dubai, so I had best keep at it.

RandallPinkFloyd · 04/02/2013 19:21

Just seems a bit pointless tbh. It's a shame but it's just not working for me at all.

My diaries are going to look a bit odd this week. I'm going away for the weekend with friends and it's going to be very boozy so I'm going to have to really stockpile some spare calories before and after if I'm going to avoid re-gaining.

DoubleMum · 04/02/2013 19:33

Randall I'm sure this won't be the first time Jillian has experienced abandonment ...

BsshBossh · 04/02/2013 19:39

Herecomesbod, it's only day 3 of fasting on 5:2 for me (fasted twice last week and today; will fast again on Thursday) but I already feel used to it. I feel peculiarly energised (am even managing run around with my 4yo and also go to the gym on fast days). To be honest I didn't think I'd be able to cope as I get very irritable when I can't eat when I need to but I thought I'd try it for a day anyway and I'm now on my second week. My mantra on fast days if I fancy something to eat is "I can eat it tomorrow". I also like that by fasting two days I can eat normally the rest of the week without having to count every calorie. My appetite has reduced too.

TeaMakesItAllPossible · 04/02/2013 19:59

I'm with Bssh completely .... only day 3.

Finding it ok with the occasional wave of hunger but am using exercise to suppress appetite (never thought I'd say that) and endless cups of herbal tea. Finding it pretty easy to do but not convinced about the results yet - lost 3 lbs last week (first week of fast) but had two weeks of calorie counting and exercising and no losses so not prepared to give the weight loss to Intermittent Fasting after all my damn hard work. My appetite is less on it too on non-fasting days which is odd. But so far so good and will keep it up until end of February and decide whether it's the one for me.

Randall hehehehe, she'll turn that beady eye on dinky and make her work harder.

I tried level 2 of the shred today ... it is hard. With level 1 I found a week of doing it hurt just as much at the end of the week as the beginning - it didn't get easier - but I the difference was I wanted to do some more jumping jacks at the end. I can't do the harder version of level 2 at all yet

But what you're describing Randall I think is normal with high intensity mixtures like that - the reason it is working is because it "breaks" you each time you do it. I watched a documentary with elite sports dudes like Wiggo and Steve R and they basically exercise really hard for 30 minutes until they can't stand up and vomit. I'm expecting to be an Olympic athlete after my shredding with Jillian the robot otherwise I'll punch her in the fanny

buzzybuzzybeeshoes · 04/02/2013 21:53

Awww Tea thanks! Actually it might be a good experiment to do just that. Like double I don't like surprises which is why I weigh every day... but I'm realising through reading this thread that that actually isn't normal and probably makes me obsess over my weight, which makes me rebellious, which makes me eat, which makes me fat, which makes me obsess over my weight. Blush

Randall but are you finding it helps you lose weight? I love the idea of shred. But there will be other things! And just because it's called 30 day shred doesn't mean you have to do it for 30 days - you could mix it up with other stuff and come back to it Smile

5:2ers - it's great isn't it. I got quite into it before Christmas and lost 8lb in 4 weeks which I then chuffed back on like some sort of automatic Matchmakers disposal unit Haven't felt like getting back on it in the cold, but was thinking that I could give it a go again this week, although I'm not minding calorie counting as much as I usually do.
