Can't link to this from old thread but thought I'd start a new one as the old one was getting full and kept crashing my kindle.

Mmmm, carbs.

BsshBossh · 28/01/2013 13:54

Well done noddy!

DoubleMum · 28/01/2013 14:14

Well done Noddy, I'm sure I read a lb a week is 4 stone a year so definitely not to be sniffed at! I'd like to do a class, but for my sanity I need to be thinner and fitter before I start. I know that sounds crazy, but it's true.

nilbyname · 28/01/2013 14:20

I might wander down to the gym tonight and see what they have to offer me.

zapp DH works away alot and I have 2 under 5, so that makes my time quite limited, but it is all about priorities!

noddy A pound is still an achievement so don't do yourself down.

double what about hitting the gym to have a go on some of the machines? A good 30 minutes on the cross trainer is a good start?

Shredding tonight. I might do level 1 then level 2 straight after! Pa-POW!

DoubleMum · 28/01/2013 14:32

What does the cross trainer involve? Can't do anything bending the knees.
I'm going to have a look into gym costs but I really don't think we can afford it unfortunately. DH's job is a fixed contract and he may well be out of work again later this year, and we have used up most of our savings. I might have to motivate myself to do what I can at home, sadly am naturally lazy!

RandallPinkFloyd · 28/01/2013 14:39

Cross-trainers are great if you have knee trouble as it's zero impact but really exercises the joint. Not sure 30 minutes is a good start though. I want to die after 10!

nilbyname · 28/01/2013 14:46

My local council run gym is pay as you go, so I never feel as though it is a waste.

this is one

Basically you walk or run and move your arms and feet together with the machine. You are on steps and you gran the handle bars. The gym one will have a computer so you can set yourself up for say a 20 minute work out, and it will give you a warm up/cool down as well as a work out measuring your heart rate and then tell you how many cals you burned at the end. You can set yourself a level too.

MorrisZapp · 28/01/2013 14:50

I'm in Edinburgh and I use council gyms too, on a pay as you go basis. I pay £25 a year for my membership, and £5.20 per class. You get loyalty points too so every so often a class is free.

DoubleMum · 28/01/2013 16:56

Oh I know what they are now, doh! It depends how much they bring up your knees TBH, I went on one during physio after the surgery but it had to be adjusted. I will check if we have a pay as you go option.

dinkydoos · 28/01/2013 17:08

Phew. Have shredded. Didn't do it on Saturday or Sunday, so had to force myself to get back to it. May celebrate with an oat cake Grin

RandallPinkFloyd · 28/01/2013 17:19

Go nuts Dinky Grin

TeaMakesItAllPossible · 28/01/2013 18:15

noddy go yooooooou. I'd love to get rid of another lb. So I, for one, am well jel Grin

I've yet to venture into a "class" at a gym. I was talking to someone today who runs a class about going to spinning. I may go next week.

The cross-trainer involves having to bend your knee but Randall's right it is brilliant if you have knackered old knees - which I do - I ruined them in a foolish moment of madness in my youth when I did a half marathon. Hence I cross train for burnt calories and strength train to try and give my hamstrings a degree of flexibility.

I'm sure your local council gym will have a PAYG option - ours does too - I used to use it before DS got moved swimming schools. They also have trainers there - the ones at our local gym are really inspirational - they are normal people who have come back from massive weight loss and now work with others to help them do the same. If you book a session with one of them Double they might will you identify a series of exercises that you can do with your knees.

Chiefs, chiefs. Can I ask for a kick up the arse please. It's my swimming class tonight... but it's cold and rainy and I don't want to go out. I'm announcing my intention of doing so as if I do, it'll be about 2 miles of walking to get there and back, and an hour of swimming hard... Just hoping that if I write it down then I'll go Grin

Put on your costume before you go. Put on lots of jumpers. Put on your coat. Get our your gloves. Put on a scarf. Goooooooooooo Buzzy

I feel your pain though - I swim Thursday evening and it involves a 30 mins walk and a 20 min bus ride, a swim and then reverse journey. Me and my boy laugh at each other all the way there and back though so it isn't quite so bad. Can you listen to music or a podcast on the way?

Remember to take a hat. Wet hair is not fun in the cold.

buzzybuzzybeeshoes · 28/01/2013 18:33

Well done dinky! I may dig the shred out tomorrow. Imagine being able to say "Yes, I too have shrad."!

nilbyname · 28/01/2013 18:59

buzzzzy get off MN and get swimming!

RandallPinkFloyd · 28/01/2013 19:17

I say shrod Grin

It is punishing but in all honesty I can feel the difference already so it's totally worth it. Plus the only people who can see my purple face are DS and the dog. No mirrors here!

Lizzylou · 28/01/2013 19:27

I have just signed up for a local park run. 5km, on the flat.

Ugh.

Nothing has made me as fit or as toned or lose weight faster than when I was running regularly. So I need to bite the bullet and just do it.

SHIT!

I do hope you are swimming Buzzzzy!!!

Well done on all the exercise, it is really motivating me to do more. Deffo helps with weight and inch loss.

DoubleMum · 28/01/2013 19:29

Thanks Tea. Buzzy consider yourself kicked!
Just had a really nice tea revolving around some Ainsley Harriott pea and mint risotto which I added some chicken breast to. It's not too horribly calorific, quick and easy and on offer at the moment at Approved Foods.

nilbyname · 28/01/2013 19:48

I SHROD, level 1, had a look at level 2. That was a mistake. Do not look at level 2. It is frightening.

GeekLove · 28/01/2013 20:49

Hi folks!
Deep breath as i do a weigh in. Pleased with yesterday's double Shred and another lvl3 today. Dissapointed about how weaker my left is from the the right.
Mind you about mirrors it is a good idea to exercise in front of them as you can pay attention to your form. This is why gyms have mirrors and it is not for the Lycra clad gym dollies to pose

Still will be going out tomorrow night. Must remember that booze is so caloric!

DoubleMum · 28/01/2013 21:04

Wow. Why did I not realise before that meringue nests and natural yoghurt and frozen raspberries were such a nice pud? Just as nice as some chocolate-y monstrosity. Or have my taste buds already changed in 3 weeks do you think? They do say it takes 3 weeks to break a habit.

RavenVonChaos · 28/01/2013 21:09

Hi Ladies, can't keep up with the thread...but wanted to ask:

A. At what time of day do you shred
B. Do you family come and snigger and interuppt.

This is my fear so have not started it yet ...

Glad you are all getting on so well. I have not weighed myself for two weeks as I no scales but think I am plateau-ing.. Any suggestions?

nilbyname · 28/01/2013 22:20

raven Go to your local Boots and weigh in there, much more accurate. DH and I shred togevur.

I am going to look in at my gym tomorrow as I really fancy spinning, I used to do that ages ago and it is a KILLER, but it gives results.

I shred after the kids are in bed at about 7ish then I eat my supper, which is a small meal. I had stew tonight, but only the meat and veg, no carbs, this was in a small bowl. DH had pastry and roasties. Bastard.

geek are you on level 3 of the shred? You are NAILS!

RandallPinkFloyd · 28/01/2013 22:21

I do it as soon as DS goes to bed, just before my evening meal. Sounds daft but I feel better eating if I've just exercised it feels like I digest it better.

I'm doing it from the computer so maybe do that, then you can do it in a different room. If anyone could see me the yes, I would be ripe for mocking. I do not look good.
