Sorry to be a bit late this morning - no doubt you're all chomping at the bit to declare all on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Ewan - I remember my mum dieting (she was always dieting!) and in the 60s it was all about losing the carbs. She used to buy Energen crispbread rolls, and I have such a clear memory of that!

I remember the advice changing, and in all the women's magazines, in the 80s, suddenly it was 'it's not the pasta that's fattening, it's the sauce that you put on it'. So totally different from how it had been before.

My DP is a GP and he's loving this WOE, he has lost 7kg so far and is starting to look very trim!

I've had a good few days, not hungry very much so my portion size has decreased quite a lot, but still eating three meals. I'm about 4/5lb down from Monday's weigh in, I think it's drinking loads of water which helps, the days I didn't drink so much I didn't lose.

BigStickBIWI · 19/01/2013 20:15

What does your DP think about low carbing now, Dangerous, and has this changed his view? Was he cynical/suspicious to start with?

OP posts:
DangerousMouse · 19/01/2013 20:24

No, he actually suggested it. I noticed his tummy looking a little more rounded than usual, and when I mentioned it he said he was going to do a fortnight carb free to start a diet, so I said I'd join him.

Then I looked into it on here and found Bootcamp. He did think he could do 2 weeks carb free to kick start weight loss, then switch to low fat diet and continue to lose weight though.. I have educated him!

BigStickBIWI · 19/01/2013 20:26

Go you!

Very interested to know what he thinks about the whole thing now. And has he done any reading/read any of the books/blogs/links that have been posted here?

Maybe he could be our 'tame' GP! Grin

DangerousMouse · 19/01/2013 20:33

Haha, I'll tell him that! I can certainly pass on any questions..

He hasn't read the threads or links, he just does/eats what I tell him!

He is so surprised that he's not hungry at all, and how quickly the weight is coming off. I have to admit that he has brought some carb free sweets which he has one of after dinner, if he didn't he would certainly reach for the haribos.

Also, he is pleased at how yummy all the food is, and that he doesn't feel deprived of anything, although he is looking forward to being allowed a few nuts and a small glass of wine next week.

Valdeeves · 19/01/2013 20:37

Ms Hercule Poirot - can I have the recipe for your lamb kleftico please? I'd like to try that?

Felt a bit off today - def in ketosis - thirsty like my mouth is sandpaper so been drinking sparkling water all day.

No breakfast - I really want to keep that up as keen to really hammer the weightloss.
Lunch - Roast chicken and roasted celeriac, two small feta wrapped in Parma ham.
Dinner - improvised quiche/omelette - asparagus, broccoli, leeks, garlic, shallots, Parma ham, leftover chicken, covered in beaten eggs, butter, chilli flakes, oregano, salt and pepper and oven baked with a curried cauliflower cream and butter mash.
It was nice - missed the crunch of a quiche though but still tasty.

Valdeeves · 19/01/2013 20:39

What am I going to eat tomorrow? Anyone got a really tasty pork dish?

BigStickBIWI · 19/01/2013 20:41

Have you looked at the recipe thread, Valdeeves? There are a number of pork dishes there

Look here

Thanks ladies Thanks

On the plus side pre-illness I had a curry takeaway which I really enjoyed without the carbs and I had a smoked salmon salad at the start of the week which I really enjoyed even though I never liked it before. And I had none of the cakes/cookies/pastries at a conference.

I really enjoy this woe. I tried low gi before but it was so complicated to get the right balance to lose weight and manage my blood sugar - this is so much easier and effective!

BigStickBIWI · 19/01/2013 20:47

OMG. If ever you wondered why we have an obesity crisis, just read this thread

Evening everyone. Sorry to hear about those having a tough time.

Yes the low-C myths are frustrating aren't they? I am eating very healthily indeed, although I think I should probably up my fish intake, but other than that it is unquestionable that I'm eating more healthily.

Today:
B: scrambled eggs and bacon
L: Chicken marinated in peanut butter and oil, with leeks and broccoli
D: Black Farmer sausages, kale and sprouts

Perhaps a bit heavy on the processed meat. Sausages and bacon a couple of times a week is the only processed meat I eat really though so hopefully ok. Have also had a couple of babybels as snacks. Am deliberately avoiding the scales until Monday after by wine blip yesterday. Here's hoping I've not derailed weight loss.

Carrotcakeisace · 19/01/2013 20:57

Wow this thread moves so quickly it's almost impossible to keep up with during the week. I made the roasted red cabbage tonight and it was fab, I can't remember who 'invented' it but thank you it was yummy with sausages and broccoli

MrsHerculePoirot · 19/01/2013 20:59

Valdeeves it is a mumsnet recipe actually, done in a slow cooker, although I am sure you can cook it for hours in the oven instead. You can substitue the onions for shallots if you like, although actually at the end you don't eat much of the sauce anyway (it is tomato based) it just makes the lamb delish. Anyway it is here. We cook a whole shoulder of lamb and then save half of it for another night. We also find the longer we cook it the better it is!

MrsHerculePoirot · 19/01/2013 21:02

WARNING don't click on BIWI's link to the thread, it might make you think about carby foods.... or maybe that is just me Grin

RatherBeOnThePiste · 19/01/2013 21:12

I couldn't get beyond pot noodle sandwich Confused

bulletwithbutterflywings · 19/01/2013 21:25

Had my first blip. Sad don't think it was too bad, I had 3 raspberries with clotted cream, I was so determined to be good! It's just made me want something else sweet though Sad

Doshusallie · 19/01/2013 21:27

Too late. Although it all leaves me cold to be honest.

The gourmet beef and ale pie in puff pastry on baked beans that dh has just scoffed on the sofa next to me however.... Now that I could have eaten....

Instead I ate 2 salmon fillets with a green salad and mayo and 2 pints of water. Halo

MrsHerculePoirot · 19/01/2013 21:33

Bullet in the grand scheme of things that is a minor blip (depends partly how much clotted cream you had I don't know how carby that might be?). Don't be Sad, learn from it, drink lots and lots of water. Think about why you are doing this and how much better you have been feeling and clean your teeth and go to bed if need be!!!!! resists asking if it was nice

MrsHerculePoirot · 19/01/2013 21:35

Oh my goodness bullet I take it all back - apparently clotted cream falls somewhere between single and double cream on the carb count according to a quick google. That and three raspberries is simply bootcamp light! Blimey, I'm off to tell DH...

Valdeeves · 19/01/2013 21:35

It all sounded really yuk - I must have come a long way in two weeks.....
( still want that slice of chocolate cake though)
Thanks Ms Hercule and BIWI for the links - will get on it tomorrow.
Still haven't got any scales but the inches on my hips are now pre pregnancy and my waist is one inch off pre pregnancy. It's all sitting on my thighs now.
With my son I put on a stone but my daughter's pregnancy made me a lot heavier - I was huge towards the end and didn't fit into any of my previous maternity clothes. Hardly surprising that I had her at 33 weeks and she was six pounds - I think she was made purely by cake!

MrsHerculePoirot · 19/01/2013 21:36

Rodda's clotted cream is 2.7 g/100g!!!!!

thenightsky · 19/01/2013 21:37

Does this mean I can just eat a small tub of clotted cream when I run out of Total FF??? Shock

bulletwithbutterflywings · 19/01/2013 21:37

The clotted cream is 2.6 per 100, I reckon that's ok. Its just the raspberries I'm concerned about are they sugary?

thenightsky · 19/01/2013 21:39

Oh... and fecking tesco today... only had 0% Total - not even a space on the shelf for FF Angry
