The trouble with pieces such as the Guardian one is that the general public read it and automatically dismiss low carbing. When the study was published DH was convinced I was eating myself into an early grave!

BlackAffronted - sorry to hear. I bet its those scales.
How about measuring? How do you feel in your clothes? Try and stay focused on that and the health benefits plus your body shape changing rather than the scales.

Just made the divine creamy veg soup of loveliness - yummy

Soft play is the work of the devil. My Dsis is moving to Holland which is far more civilised and they have Bars in their soft play centres! I can't wait.
DD has a party tomorrow at soft play. Am bracing myself......

frenchfries very sorry to hear of your loss. Miscarriage is definitely not talked about enough or seen as common as it actually is, along with mental health I think it is still a "taboo" subject for far too many people. Be kind to yourself and take all the time you need. There is great support here and on other MN topic threads.

blackaffronted it may be your scales, it may be you knocked yourself out of ketosis. Try to really have 2 completely strict weeks following the rules to the letter and NO cheats, however "small" you may think they are, and see if it does the job?

Yesterday's food:
Brunch egg, 2 bacon, 2 low carb sausages
Late lunch little gem lettuce leaves wrapped around cheese
D chicken breasts chopped up small and fried with pancetta, leeks, mushrooms, lazy garlic and chilli, served on a bed of spinach. Was very good, and the saltiness of the pancetta helped with my water consumption.

Today:
B 2 eggs scrambled with butter and cream
S lettuce/cheese wraps again, nice and crunchy !
L just sitting down to a piece of salmon baked with mozzarella on top, on spinach (yes I bought a huge bag)
D will be a beef casserole

As the oven was on to do my salmon anyway, thought I would try the Parmesan crackers idea, they are in now. I will report back! As I'm sure you are all breathless with anticipation!

NoelHeadbands · 19/01/2013 13:29

Hi everyone

frenchfries sorry for your loss x

BlackAffronted I'd be willing to bet that there's no way you've put 4lb on- more likely an anomaly on the scales. I sympathise because last year I got a week or two into this WOE and had to replace my scales. The new ones put me about a half stone heavier Grin. Gutting. I just had to roll with and go with the new figure and assume that the original weight hadn't been right anyway. Don't be disheartened

MrsHerculePoirot · 19/01/2013 13:33

This tip just came up on my fb feed from my veg box provider '
Don?t bin your cauliflower greens. The softer leaves are delicious pan fried in a little oil or butter with cumin and sea salt.'

ToomuchWaternotWine · 19/01/2013 13:37

Well Parmesan crackers are quite nice! Definitely help with the urge crunch. I only had a few small ones eight and was then very thirsty so helped me down another couple of pints of water!

I think I would prefer a mature cheddar cracker though, to go with pâté or cold meats. That will be the next experiment!

ToomuchWaternotWine · 19/01/2013 13:39

mrshp do you find a veg box is value for money? I was toying with the idea of ordering one from my local hippy shop in the next town over, as they claim to source as much as possible very locally. Just wondered if you found it good VFM or if I will stick with my chemically washed Asda greens.

BigStickBIWI · 19/01/2013 13:50

Toomuch - if you add a good shaking of cayenne pepper to them it gives them a really nice 'bite'

I get a veg box from Abel and Cole - I pay around £14, including the delivery charge, for a medium one. It's OK so far, although I haven't got used to the fact that the delivery day here is Friday. I realised that I do very little cooking at the weekend - Friday is takeaway night. I cook Saturday (although more recently DH and I have been going out for dinner on Saturday - he's working so bloody hard at the moment I hardly see him during the week, and he's dying to get out of the house, I think) and then on Sunday we go out for dinner with DS2. So by the time I'm starting to think about cooking again, most of the veg has been hanging around for 3 days or so.

I like the way you can change what's in the box, so you can tell them if you don't like something, or you don't want something, and there's often something free in there, which is a nice surprise.

But I have no idea how the prices compare.

The other thing about the general dissing of low carb that always annoys me is the assumption that we are eating really badly.

I wonder how many people who have been doing Bootcamp are actually eating more veg/salad than they were before?

Certainly, from all the posts/threads I have read since we first started the first Bootcamp, a common theme is people talking about how much more cooking from scratch they are doing. How can that be unhealthy?

frenchfries22 · 19/01/2013 13:55

Thank you all for your kind words Thanks. i feel this woe is the change i need and almost therapeutic in a way as really helping with the emotional eating.
on a seperate note has anyone elses wee turned green?

NoelHeadbands · 19/01/2013 13:56

I eat twice as much veg on this WOE than I did before. Easily. And I don't eat more meat.

NoelHeadbands · 19/01/2013 13:57

No green wee here Grin

frenchfries22 · 19/01/2013 13:59

Biwi I can say I am eating so much more veg and salad now that was previously substituted for potatoes or chips before starting this and im vegetarian! 100% healthier than the food i was eating

frenchfries22 · 19/01/2013 14:00

maybe its the veg turning my wee green!! Grin

catinboots · 19/01/2013 14:04

sheba I'm drinking lemon and ginger tea to help my cold.

I bought a selection of fruit teas which I'm drinking through the day - to keep me away from normal tea and as part of my water intake.

3lb down today Grin

But DH has just come in and announced we're going to his friend's house for paella and wine tonight Shock

How can I get round that one???

JustasmallGless · 19/01/2013 14:05

I have to say I haven't had green wee either Grin

thatgirlsevil · 19/01/2013 14:07

Confession time - I drank a bottle of red wine last night...and this morning I've drank my first Diet Coke in almost 2 weeks to cope with the pain. I haven't felt this hungover in years...that'll learn me.

I still lost this morning which I think is down to luck more than anything else. Other than the wine I've pretty much stuck to this WOE like it's my new religion and I'm proud to report that as of this morning I am 10.8 lbs OFF...and I'm finally seeing the (small) changes when I look in the mirror. I'm almost half way towards my goal weight already...

BIWI - I don't think I ever asked to be added to the spreadsheet as I've been keeping log of my own weight loss on MFP. Please can I be added and I'll fill in what I've dropped so far? I think having it public will give me the right boost to hit my target. Thanks.

thatgirlsevil · 19/01/2013 14:08

OH AND CELERIAC CHIPS GUYS!!!!!!!!!!
uh-may-zing.

MrsHerculePoirot · 19/01/2013 14:19

I also get my box from abel and cole - just gone up to £14/15 for the box inc delivery. For this we get 8 vegetables, although there is often something else thrown in I have found.

For me it works because our box comes on a Thursday morning. I work mon-weds and so meal plan until weds night. Thurs morning DD opens our box (and thinks it is very exciting) and then I base my meals around what is in our box. I could of course look online and see what is coming, but I quite like the surprise. I like it as DD is only just 3 and she likes vegetables so I think it makes it exciting for her and she likes trying new things from the box - her favourites have been purple carrots so far!

With the box, some veg need eating straight away, some will last for days so you need to assess that when it arrives and work with it. It probably is more expensive than supermarket, but we are in the fortunate position to be able to afford it and I like that I have a better idea of seasonal produce and are supporting UK producers if that makes sense. I also like trying things that I wouldn't necessarily buy in the shops!

AuntieMaggie · 19/01/2013 14:23

I have bronchitis :(

Last night I had a couple of crackers left over from xmas with some soup and honey in my tea to soothe my throat which feels like I've been swallowing glass... not bootcamp but between being ill and snowed in I'm struggling... :( I don't want anything from the fridge as its too cold on my throat so the feta, mozzarella, salad, cold meat etc are all out. DP made chicken curry last night but I could only manage two mouthfuls.

Drinking plenty of water and fruit tea though.

What I really want is jelly and ice cream and chips with curry sauce :(

FurryDogMother · 19/01/2013 14:24

catinboots - paella's a difficult one, but you could ask if you could just have the chicken/prawns/whatever they put in it, without the rice. If I were you I'd eat before I went, so I wasn't hungry and could keep damage to a minimum. Maybe take a couple of hardboiled eggs with you, and a bottle of soda water so you know you have something you can drink. I've been known to turn up with a bottle of vodka, a cucumber, and soda water at parties Grin - makes a nice drink (even if we're supposed to be off the booze until Monday, it would be better than giving into temptation and having the wine).
