To continue chatting and preparing for the official start on 7th.

Rules and veg info can be found on the tabs on the old spreadsheet here.

It is a real revelation, isn't it, after years of deprivation, to be able to eat tasty, rewarding food and not feel guilty.

lilyfire · 05/01/2013 18:34

I think I just added my name to the spreadsheet successfully. I've lost nearly 2 stone low carbing since June last year. I'd like to get down to about 10stone - which is another 7lbs loss or so (not totally sure how much as scales were very erratic today). Anyway looking forward to getting back to low carbing properly. My favourite low carb helpers/snacks have been pork scratchings, avocados, kale, sparkling water and lettuce with lots of Hellmans.

DangerousMouse · 05/01/2013 18:50

Dinners on, we are having the braised cabbage, smells good but the leaves are coming apart a bit. Going to have brussell sprouts and asparagus with it, an a hard boiled egg.

Being a veggie, this diet is a bit tricky, but I've bought some of the Atkins shakes for breakfast, that means I can have an egg based lunch and a cream based dinner. Does that sound about right?

BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 05/01/2013 19:03

As long as you can tolerate cream, that looks fine.

BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 05/01/2013 19:04

... although I don't know much about the Atkins shakes. I would imagine - but you will need to check - that the ingredients could be a bit on the artificial side. Perhaps not for every day?

becstarlightstarbright · 05/01/2013 19:09

Ooh, some lovely recipes here - definitely going to try that braised cabbage.

For those new to this WOE here - on the water drinking, the way BIWI drinks her water - slowly sipping through the day, is the right way to do it. Don't try to chug 4 litres quickly when you're not used to drinking much. Drink frequently, just always have a glass of water by you. No need to gulp. Make sure you're weeing frequently - if this is three times as much water as you normally drink in a day you might need to wee three times more often than usual. Apologies if that's blindingly obvious but wouldn't want someone to get poorly.

Anyway... I'm dying to weigh myself but am going to wait for the 14th as my weight fluctuates so much day to day so a weekly weigh in is def best for me... Must say my jeans feel a tiny bit looser.

Biscuit357 · 05/01/2013 19:25

Evening All...

I would love to join your bootcamp (and hopefully have added my name to the list OK). Lost a tonne of weight low carbing a few years ago and it really suits my way of eating.

I'm 2 stone heavier than my pre-pregnancy weight (my baby has just turned one) and we are thinking about number two but want to lose at least this baby-weight (hopefully more) before we start trying.

Looking forward to it x

EwanHoozami · 05/01/2013 19:28

Love the thought of all those cabbages braising away over the country. You are in for a treat

troy and anyone finding the water intake a bit of a leap, you might find it easier to drink the water at room temp than cold out of the tap, especially at this time of year.

Tap water round here is mildly unpleasant so I'll fill a 2l jug and put a few cucumber slices in it which makes it taste lovely (honest!)

I used to keep a scorechart and notch up a score once an hour when I had a glass. Down a 400ml tumbler every hour between 8am and 6pm and there's your 4l.

DH says that I can neck liquid faster than an 80's darts player these days

cocolepew · 05/01/2013 19:36

Arrgghh I've crumbled and I'm eating 3 small squares of 85% chocolate. I have been dying for something. Hopefully this will take the notion of me.

With reference to drinking water I find it much easier to drink it out of a sports top bottle rather than a glass, for some reason.

DangerousMouse · 05/01/2013 19:55

That cabbage was deeelish.

I think the shakes are a bit processed but it's better than nothing for brekkie I guess.

So, now what, dinner is finished and I'm craving a sweet thing

Rooobs · 05/01/2013 20:12

coco was the chocloate amazing? in which case it was worth it. If not, then you know next time...Grin

Grin
ScillyCow · 05/01/2013 20:16

Starfish, it's been just the same for me!. Bits and pieces of french bread, cake, christmas pud, christmas cake all over the place, and I'm just "no, I don't eat that anymore".

Wierd but brilliant.

cocolepew · 05/01/2013 20:18

It was lovely Grin. I'm not used to eating so much fatty greasy stuff. I don't eat low fat as a rule but I find too much (which I'm having atm ) a bit much, makes me feel funny.

How many weeks until we can eat fruit again after the bootcamp?

Although craving sweet things, the dinner was very filling. Does anyone have a recipe for salad dressing? I don't like mayo or creamy dressings though.

Stylelostinlabour · 05/01/2013 20:34

Why does MFP tell my braised cabbage was 15 carbs - grrrr its taken me to 24 then today but was bloody amazing DH who had done a 7 mile run came in and was literally spooning straight from the pan before asking what it was...

I'm stuffed as an egg now... (Hoping my bowls start moving soon)

LucyVFood · 05/01/2013 20:42

Style, I had the same thing,MFP said 200g of swede was about 16g of carbs but then the spreadsheet said not...

Yama · 05/01/2013 20:59

Hey folks, I'm not able to do the Bootcamp this time but I've been low carbing since Wednesday, almost to Bootcamp standards.

I feel so much healthier already.

I've tried a few of the recipes on this thread and can confirm that the cheese crackers are fecking amazing. I've had to put them up high and out of sight so that they last. The lamb bites I did with turkey mince and loads of leeks and are lovely.

Tomorrow we are going to make Cauliflower Rice to go with the Bol of Spag Bol.

It was dh who alerted me to low carbing. He started a couple of months ago to rid himself of a candida thing which was making him feel unwell when he exercised. I did the obligatory Mumsnet search and found the original Bootcamp threads and lots of advice across threads from BIWI .

The point of this post is to say a big thank you to you all. From Lidl's tub of Greek Yoghurt to advice about snacks such as pate spread on cucumber to the motivating, inspiring words of all - a thank you from me. Smile

TooImmatureMincePies · 05/01/2013 21:00

Day 1 down!

B/L: Bacon, 2 fried eggs, mushrooms
Snacks: 2 Babybels, a Pepperami (just to try them!) and some ham
Dinner: Fish pie made with cream, swede and leeks. Mmm!

2 cups tea w ff milk, one cup green tea, one cup hot water and about 4 pints of water.

I also did the Shred, Level 1 Day 1! Anyone else Shredding, come over here to the Shred Bootcamp (to run concurrently with this Bootcamp).

Doshusallie · 05/01/2013 21:06

Starfish that's what I like about it too, you can't eat cake so you don't eat cake, done, sorted, lovely jubbly, see ya muffin.

Ewan you are extremely amusing.

And Roobs, am loving your food adjectives, very apt descriptions.

Grin

I have a cold. First for years. Poo. Helping massively with the no drinking though. Am drinking decaf coffee with cream and then going to bed.

Doshusallie · 05/01/2013 21:08

Just realised how rock n' roll that sounds, don't you just love January?

Doshusallie · 05/01/2013 21:09

toomuch yum to your fish pie gonna make that this week.

captainmummy · 05/01/2013 21:14

Those using MFP - you will need to add a column called 'fibre' to your usual 'fat/cals/carbs' columns -it's an american site so they don;t take fibre off as we do here. Once you take the fibre off it gives you the carb counts we are more used to.
