Rooobs - it's based on everything I've read/done/tried! I first discovered low carbing via Dr Charles Clark's book "The High Protein Diet", and then started low carbing but without counting carbs, as I really couldn't be bothered! I had had too many years of calorie counting/weighing stuff to want to go there.
Then I got involved in a low carb website, www.low-carbdiet.co.uk/, which really helped me to stay focussed, and helped me/still helps me to learn about low carbing. (It used to be a busy site, although it's very quiet now)
After that, I started reading around the diet a bit more - firstly with Dr Atkins "The New Diet Revolution", and then "The Idiot Proof Diet". All of this confirmed that I was going along the right path.
All of this happened over a fairly long time period. I was vaguely committed to low carbing, because it seemed to work better than any other diet I had tried, but I still dropped in and out of it.
Then, a couple of years ago, I came across Dr John Briffa's book "Escape The Diet Trap", and following that, Gary Taubes "The Diet Delusion" and "Why We Get Fat (and What to Do About It)" Reading both these books confirmed not only why I was doing it to lose weight, but also that there was a long term health benefit to it.
Anyway, long story short (!), when I started low carbing again seriously last year, I reached a point in April, I think, where I was losing heart/steam, and realised that I needed some extra discipline/support. I had been on a series of low carb threads on Mumsnet that were definitely offering the support, but needed something to really help crack the whip - hence deciding I needed something like a Bootcamp. I devised the ten rules, in an effort to make something that would be as true to low carb as I knew, but also would be super easy to follow. And then I posted to ask if anyone wanted to join me - fully expecting it to be the usual half a dozen or so low carb afficionados. I had no idea what I was starting! 80+ people signed up to join me!
The Bootcamp rules are closest to Atkins induction, in that they are pretty strict. Although the idea is that you can follow them without having to count/measure/weigh.
