Welcome to thread 11 of the Paul McKenna's I Can Make You Thin weight loss system.

The Golden Rules that will aid you on your journey with our like minded support system are:

  1. Eat what you WANT
  2. Eat when you are HUNGRY
  3. Eat CONSCIOUSLY
  4. STOP eating when you are satisfied and full

This weight loss system is about re-educating your body; learning to listen to it and in doing so losing weight and inches. After all, eating a meal is not a competition.

Many people have issues around food. Many of us have been brought up by the 'clear your plate' parents of yesteryear which leave us feeling guilty if we leave even the smallest morsel of food, but we are working through this guilt or any other hang up we might have, and we are learning to leave a bit on the plate; return to it another time if we really want to or even feed it to the dog or the bin!

So!! forget diets; they may work for a while, but they aren't permanent solutions. This is a new way of living for your brand new life!!

The Paul McKenna system really works and is easy to maintain.

I've C&P'd our previous threads links as they are helpful.

Here are the book choices on AMAZON which is all you need to get started! they aren't compulsory, but they do help! it's something to refer to and listening to the cd's can really focus you.

This is the tapping technique EXPLAINED - this can be useful to combat cravings.

You don't have to buy the book and CD, but we have found that they do help and somehow they keep you on track, so it would probably be a good investment and will cost you far less than a couple of trips to WW or SW meetings, so do consider having them in your life.

Please feel free to join us, whether it's 10lbs or 10 stones you want to lose.
We are friendly, supportive and successful, but we're not hungry OH NO we're not!!! so come on in and start living your new life today and make 2013 your year to drop a dress size or several.

DH sees that I don't put much food on my plate and don't eat much of it. Sometimes if im busy then I don't find time and I suffer migraines so its important for me to eat regularly but I just forget sometimes. So I have started eating differently. If im hungry I now eat a piece of fruit instead of eating nothing and waiting till dinner. I think also that as I am approaching the menopause that I need to eat foods that help create testosterone in the body to avoid the typical menopausal symptoms and to ensure I don't get the dreaded bingo wings ha ha.

QueenOfHalloween · 06/05/2013 14:54

Rules Thanks for posting the link for Buteyko. I'm just having a look now. I have asthma and ME so this looks really interesting to me :)

ppeatfruit · 06/05/2013 15:03

IKWYM but from what I can gather it's not as bad as some diets, at least you can eat what you want (healthy stuff though) when you're off the 6oo cals days. DD2 and DH have given up on it but her DP has lost a lot on it.

ppeatfruit · 06/05/2013 15:13

Interesting about the menopause I sailed through it with some hot flushes but nothing extreme, no mares piss hormone treatment (although I took natural hormones like camomile and evening primrose oil). Rules I do acupressure stretches which has done wonders for my upper arm muscles Grin

Rulesgirl · 06/05/2013 16:29

pp I had some hot flushes a year ago then nothing till now. but other than hot flushes that is my only symptom. I think that as I have always ate loads of fruit and veg all my life that my body works well. I have always had six or seven different types of veg with meals.

QueenOfHalloween · 06/05/2013 22:19

So just out of interest what time of day do you guys tend to listen to your CD? I've been listening on a morning but thinking of changing to bed time as i think it might help me sleep.

Rulesgirl · 06/05/2013 22:28

Queen I listen to it last thing at night, light off, just me and Paul (well its turned down low so as to not wake DH up). Then I just pull him out when Im done. ha ha ha ha ha ha. Just realised how bad that sounded. Sorry.

QueenOfHalloween · 06/05/2013 22:42

LOL! Rules That was so funny. Yes i think i'll be taking him to bed with me too. Since i've already played him once today i'll wait until tomorrow night to start taking him to bed. I'm sure my other half won't mind!

ppeatfruit · 07/05/2013 08:38

Morning all Grin I don't listen much but it's usually when I need a powerquick nap in the early afternoon. I LOVE it! I like the feeling of being in his control and that warm and fuzzy feeling as someone said upthread IFYSWIM Grin

HadALittleFaithBaby · 07/05/2013 09:17

I do it before bed as it helps me relax :)

Rulesgirl · 07/05/2013 12:40

Day two of Summer here ladies. And its gorgeousssss! Whats it like where you are? Grin

Rulesgirl · 07/05/2013 12:59

The thread appears to have taken a "sleezy" turn for the worst as most of our replies to "when do you listen to Paul" could be viewed as "dirty" lol. Grin

ppeatfruit · 07/05/2013 16:13

Well it's in your mind Rules !!!! (she says adjusting her bosom and looking over her glasses!!) Grin

But mind you solo and I do fancy Paul Mckenna no one else of the earlier posters though; anyone of you newbies? She asks hopefully Blush

QueenOfHalloween · 07/05/2013 17:46

PP I'm afraid he's not really my type. Although i think his voice is sexier in real life than it is on his CD. Did anyone catch him on Top Gear? I think he was the star in the responsibly priced car but he did a bit where he hypnotized Richard Hammond and made him completely forget how to drive a car!

Anyway i suppose we'd better talk ICMYT? Maybe? I'm feeling quite strange today. I suppose this is officially Day 2 and i'm trying to follow all the rules but i don't know if its something to do with the warm whether or something but i just don't feel as hungry as i normally do. Much smaller portions are making me feel satisfied and i'm trying to stop eating before i get too full. I figure i can always put more in my mouth if still hungry but i can't subtract.... Anyway i just feel like i'm not eating enough?

Still off to bed with Paul tonight Smile

ppeatfruit · 07/05/2013 17:56

Sounds like you 're getting it queen Grin remember you're breaking old habits and starting new more helpful ones after all if you feel full then you ARE eating enough! Well done!!! Our stomachs are actually the size of grapefruits Grin

veryberrybug · 07/05/2013 21:29

evening all! thanks for the buteyko info & link, should be worth a look when i get half a min later in the week.

i listen to the lovely paul in the early afternoon, funnily enough also when i want a quick powernap before getting the kids from school. i always feel so relaxed yet refreshed afterwards. sometimes i do at bedtime but i'm usually too knackered, then when he says "wake up... refreshed & alert..." i'm thinking "NOOOO! i want to be zonked not alert!" you are a right bunch of smutty so&so's though Grin

it's been beautiful sunny & warm here - flipflop weather hurrah! but supposed to piss down rest of the week, hey-ho.

queen i remember feeling like that when i was thin, when it was hot all i wanted was a wee bit of iceberg lettuce Shock hurrah for listening to our tums & going against the habit, i never fancied lunch until 2.30pm today.

Rulesgirl · 07/05/2013 21:42

mmmm. That would be a big no from me on fancying the Paul for me pp. What are you like! Wink

QueenOfHalloween · 07/05/2013 23:37

I didn't expect it to start working so quickly tbh. Now i'm just struggling to override years of diet "advice" and not panic over the fact that i don't feel like i'm eating enough. Oh and i'm trying not to be too fixated on eating "Diet Foods" as well. Just trying to eat normal balanced meals. I've just had a cup of coffee and 2 jaffa cakes. Now normally it would be a cup of coffee and anywhere between 3 to 12 jaffa cakes but i'm feeling slightly full. And no cravings! Its almost like someone has put a spell on me!

Very it was lovely here as well. So warm i didn't need a jacket when i went to the doctors this morning. Bit gutted that its going to be so horrible for the rest of the week. WE deserve some sunshine after the winter and spring we've had! I did consider not listening to Paul on a night in fear of ending the trance "refreshed and alert" but the last 2 times i've listened to it i've slept another couple of hours afterwards. Hopefully it might improve my sleep as i've had terrible insomnia lately. Perhaps given that the sunshine damps my appetite i should go to live somewhere warm?

PP Can't actually believe that human stomach is only the size of a grapefruit. It must have felt well abused over all these years! I keep trying to keep that image in my head when i'm eating as well.

ppeatfruit · 08/05/2013 08:22

Morning everyone Grin What you do find Queen is that you feel hungry more often; when I go out I always take a small bottle of filtered water and a 'snack pot' of some walnuts and dates\figs and or an apple anything that takes a lot of chewing Grin.

The good thing about eating little and often is that the actual digesting takes energy and therefore helps with the weight loss Grin Especially if its healthy food!!

The only time I find that rule doesn't work is eating after 7.30ishp.m. late at night then it seems to do the opposite!!

RulesI must admit I've gone off him a bit lately he looks a bit haggard and his VGB book and idea seems a bit Hmm to me Grin

veryberrybug · 08/05/2013 12:01

i've been eating less often, on the curves diet it was meal, snack, meal, snack, meal, so i'd gotten used to eating every 3hrs but now i'm quite often not interested in the snacks. does this mean i'm eating too much at mealtimes? maybe i need to slow down more because i'm not losing weight yet? i thought eating little & often was better for cranking up the metabolism. Confused

ppeatfruit · 08/05/2013 15:41

That sounds a more sensible diet veryberry Did you lose on it? though not if has 'diet' food with it. Little and often is good for the metabolic rate maybe you're just getting used to actually listening to your body.

HadALittleFaithBaby · 08/05/2013 15:50

pp it works in that you never get starving hungry and the snacks are healthy food combining like protein/carbs but it works by building up calorie intake so 1200 a day for one week, then 1500 for 3 weeks, then 2000 until you start gaining again....I found 2000 calories a day could actually be too much - huge amounts of food! The idea is that at the end you've lost the weight and trained your body to be used to eating 2000 calories all the time at goal and if you start gaining you just drop down to 1200 calories for a couple of days to drop the weight. 1200 calories a day is hardcore though. I was miserable on so little food!

ppeatfruit · 08/05/2013 16:33

hi HadA How are you and Abby? Could you not stay at 1500 cals. ? It's the ridiculous counting calories though isn't it not nec. IMO and E

veryberrybug · 08/05/2013 17:52

yes i thought it was ok because it was not a ridiculous fad, i did lose weight on it (& toned up nicely with the exercise element) but even though it was sensible (eg. 2starch,1protein &1dairy = meat/egg 2slice-sarny & a yoghurt for lunch with as much free veg as you could shake a stick at) it was the fact that i then wasn't allowed anything else which made me want it, even though snacktime never far off. when i did the 2000cal/day month at the end of it i was binging (over 2000cal) because i knew i'd be denied the next day when i restarted low cal again. DP said it was what he noticed made the most difference to my girth, so the diet part worked but i just couldn't bear what the restriction was doing to me psychologically. some of the recipes i still use, good for all the family, but i just don't have to say "i'm allowed 1/5 of that". i probably eat about that amount but by choice - huge difference to me!

i tried stopping lunch today at neutral/pleasantly satisfied (5-6) rather than waiting until full (7), & i got hungry again ~3hrs later, so maybe that's what i need to do. maybe my "full" was verging on "stuffed" before? i think that's partly why i failed at this last time, because i couldn't recognise full & hadny distinguished appetite from hunger. Hmm

HadALittleFaithBaby · 08/05/2013 19:45

Thanks for asking - we are well! She is full up and kind of dozy but not quite asleep! She's feeding well and going a bit longer between feeds. This results in more sleep for me!

Yes I found the Curves diet ok aside from the 1200 calories but sometimes it was hard to fit the snack in and I was eating when I wasn't hungry Hmm. I felt much better when I started Pauling and running. Interestingly the abdo pain that caused me so many problems has virtually gone - I've gone from prescription strength codiene and paracetamol four times a day to not even taking paracetamol most days! Therefore I'm hoping once my joints stop being loose I should be able to run again! :)
