Welcome to thread 11 of the Paul McKenna's I Can Make You Thin weight loss system.

The Golden Rules that will aid you on your journey with our like minded support system are:

  1. Eat what you WANT
  2. Eat when you are HUNGRY
  3. Eat CONSCIOUSLY
  4. STOP eating when you are satisfied and full

This weight loss system is about re-educating your body; learning to listen to it and in doing so losing weight and inches. After all, eating a meal is not a competition.

Many people have issues around food. Many of us have been brought up by the 'clear your plate' parents of yesteryear which leave us feeling guilty if we leave even the smallest morsel of food, but we are working through this guilt or any other hang up we might have, and we are learning to leave a bit on the plate; return to it another time if we really want to or even feed it to the dog or the bin!

So!! forget diets; they may work for a while, but they aren't permanent solutions. This is a new way of living for your brand new life!!

The Paul McKenna system really works and is easy to maintain.

I've C&P'd our previous threads links as they are helpful.

Here are the book choices on AMAZON which is all you need to get started! they aren't compulsory, but they do help! it's something to refer to and listening to the cd's can really focus you.

This is the tapping technique EXPLAINED - this can be useful to combat cravings.

You don't have to buy the book and CD, but we have found that they do help and somehow they keep you on track, so it would probably be a good investment and will cost you far less than a couple of trips to WW or SW meetings, so do consider having them in your life.

Please feel free to join us, whether it's 10lbs or 10 stones you want to lose.
We are friendly, supportive and successful, but we're not hungry OH NO we're not!!! so come on in and start living your new life today and make 2013 your year to drop a dress size or several.

Dashing by to say hello...see you all soon...I'm working tomorrow, but I hope your BH Monday is lovely :)

QueenOfHalloween · 05/05/2013 23:49

Hello all

Hope you don't mind me jumping in. I'm completely new to Mumsnet but i've been reading back through your posts with interest. According to my amazon account i've owned a copy of PM's ICMYT since October 2004 and also his DVD PM's Easy Weightloss. But like a lot of stuff i've bought over the years i listened to it a couple of times and didn't follow the golden rules (just kept forgetting) and eventually just gave up. Anyway i've been a yoyo dieter for years but decided i really needed to do something about my issues with food. I was looking at books on Overcoming Binge Eating on amazon and underneath in the list of books also looked at was PM's ICMYT and the newer HGB. Since i knew already had a copy of ICMYT i went to my book shelf to find it. Annoyingly the CD was no where to be seen so i read through the book and today went on a hunt for the CD. Found it and listened to it today.

I'm currently off work ill and have gained a lot of weight in that time which is making my health worse. Anyway i've downloaded the CD to my mobile and plan to listen to it every night. I'm making a conscious effort to follow the rules but i am struggling with the not eating in front of the tv. Can't seem to shake that one off so at the moment i'm compromising. I'm turning the sound off and concentrating fully on the food. Fingers crossed.

Anyway thanks for reading my long post.

QueenOfHalloween · 06/05/2013 00:35

Oh and i don't know if it matters but during the CD it asks you to count backwards from 300 and frankly i was lost once he stopped counting with me! Hopefully that's not too much of a problem?

veryberrybug · 06/05/2013 00:46

hello queen glad to have you here. i'm quite new to this thread (& mumsnet) so i've that in common with you, aswel as finding dieting made me binge too, & also had ICMYT for a good few years before finding it again! now seems like the right time.

anyhoo you're in the right place for a bit of support. i sometimes forget the four golden rules too, but i found having a copy of the hunger scale pinned up right beside where i eat helps. it's definitely getting easier with practice Smile . now if i go to eat while doing something else i find myself thinking "no, hang on, i'll miss out on the enjoyment if i'm not giving my food 100% attention" but have to move any reading/post etc out of the way or i have to keep fighting it. good luck with it!

i like the CD, it makes me feel all warm & fluffy Flowers

veryberrybug · 06/05/2013 00:54

i think the counting's just to keep your mind there if it's busy, i tend to realise i've stopped when he starts saying different things in each ear as i couldn't listen & count at the same time! & if i'm quite relaxed i forget more often, other times i've got down to 100. lots of other people don't get below ~280 (on HGB thread too) so i don't think it matters

veryberrybug · 06/05/2013 00:56

jings crivvens help ma boab i must stop posting at stupid o'clock, way past my bedtime! Shock

QueenOfHalloween · 06/05/2013 01:08

Thanks VeryBerryBug.

Its way past my bedtime too..... Interesting that you should say his voice makes you feel all warm and fuzzy. I didn't think it sounded like him! I even double checked the CD to make sure i'd put the right one in!

Rulesgirl · 06/05/2013 08:05

Hi Ladies.....very you said that you were wo. ling about diet food. Your children are not fat and don't eat diet food so I'm guessing they eat like slim people. But you est diet food yet need to lose weight but are still overweight??? There is a connection there. Confused

Rulesgirl · 06/05/2013 08:05

wobbling

Rulesgirl · 06/05/2013 08:18

pp don't know my blood type but I know that I like real food. I actually don't eat a lot of cheese but have a little bit of what I like when I do. I'm not a cake or sweet person but still enjoy puddings with fruit in. love banana anything and apple anything. enjoy artisan breads. Prefer fish to meat nowadays. love homemade soups like parsnip or butternut squash. love salads and avocado but think I recall that I am blood type o actually Confused .......not sure. My DH had a talk with me the other day as he doesn't think I'm getting enough food or enough nourishment since doing PM. He has a point....I don't eat much at all so am making s concious effort to tune into my hunger signals more.

HadALittleFaithBaby · 06/05/2013 08:48

Welcome queen! It's nice to see this thread being updated daily again :)

To answer your question with the counting - I tend to get to about 360 but stop counting when he stops relaxing you and instead starts talking about imagining yourself at your ideal weight. I've actually started listening to the CD again at night. It helps me relax and I want to get back into the habit. I've managed it the last two nights! :)

Faithlet is doing well. She seems to have long legs - she still fits in 'tiny baby' vests but needs first size/0-3 months baby grows because her legs are so long. She's definitely gaining weight and filling out. She's currently fast asleep on me! Grin

ppeatfruit · 06/05/2013 11:28

HadA Yes it's good to see it busy on here bless Abby's little cotton sox and her long legs!!

Also a big welcome to Queen Grin Sleep learning works ref. the C.D. Grin

VeryBerry yes practice is important and the 'chew each mouthful for 15 to 25 times" rule is very helpful when you're starting P.M. It really got me going on it actually Grin. You sound very similar to DH and he can control his asthma when he stops cheese and milk also closing his mouth Buteyko style (nose breathing) Grin.

Hi Solo Shame you're working today Sad

Rules I eat real organic food but just the right food for my health (I like being the only person I know of my age and younger who is healthy Grin). Remind your DH that our stomachs are only the size of grapefruits !! So as long as you're eating nourishing healthy food then little and often is correct and right !!

ppeatfruit · 06/05/2013 11:30

HAVE A HAPPY MAY DAY BANK HOLIDAY EVERYONE Grin

Rulesgirl · 06/05/2013 12:20

pp thing is he is very health concious and he is right. I have not been eating a lot and sometimes go all day without eating so I am now making a point of eating more regularly. He didn't mean portions iyswim. By the way he does the Buytuko method too. He started it about ten years ago and he has been inhaler free all that time.

Rulesgirl · 06/05/2013 12:21

Buteyko.

Rulesgirl · 06/05/2013 12:22

Buteyko.....bloody phone Grin

veryberrybug · 06/05/2013 12:22

oh yes... i see what you mean rules it's that dieter's mix-up of having cause & effect the wrong way round. diet-think = i am fat so should eat low-fat food; thin-think = i am fat because i eat low-fat food. thanks for clarifying that for me, it's just a matter of consciously undoing all the diet rhetoric i've been absorbing for 7yrs Confused i'm not thick by any means but desperation does away with reason!

i feel i'm getting there though, had some delicious organic greek yoghurt with honey *;9 (that's me smiling & licking me lips icon!) i'm back on full-fat cheese & yoghurt now & cooking with olive oil (except fried eggs), meals are generally homemade anyhoo so at least that's real food (never could do ready meals, never enough veg). i think for me it was more the restriction of "that's what you're allowed" that was the problem, perpetuating the binge & purge cycle. my DP once bought me WW pud as he tried to be supportive "so as you can have it & no feel guilty" but it tasted like shit so i said "thanks but no more please"!

queen yes, having heard PM doing ICMYT on telly he was so boingy & animated, but as said upthread he's growly on CD, so different!

pp i sometimes find counting chews made me forget to notice taste as i was thinking numbers, but i was chewing enough, so now i keep chewing til it basically disintegrates in my mouth (still have to slow actual chews down though)
i like alpro almond milk it's a nice alternative Smile

veryberrybug · 06/05/2013 12:26

hada aaaaawwww! faithlet's so sweet unfolding herself & getting long after all that time folded up in your tum! you must be feeding her the good stuff! Wink

veryberrybug · 06/05/2013 12:29

what's buteyko (in more detail) & how do you learn it?

ppeatfruit · 06/05/2013 13:13

veryberry You can get a book on it. It's literally "close your mouth and breathe through your nose" Of course you need to clear your nose first Smile I know it seems too simple, but if you look around you Sooo many people have they're mouths hanging open .I do it its just a habit now like P.M. Grin because its good for your health if you've got asthma or not Grin Sorry I can't find our book.

Rulesgirl · 06/05/2013 13:26

www.buteyko.co.uk/

QueenOfHalloween · 06/05/2013 14:14

Thanks for the warm welcome PP and Hada. You've no idea how relieved i am that i found you. Not sure i could cope being the only one on PM's ICMYT. I know lots of people are doing his new HGB but i'm hoping this will work for me without having to resort to making my stomach smaller.

Hope everyone is having a great bank holiday. I'm please to report i'm not even dressed! Had a mere 2 crumpets for breakfast... Not sure if i'm full or not but i'm airing on the side of caution as i can always get more food.

ppeatfruit · 06/05/2013 14:28

Thanks for the link Rules Grin If you're not eating AT ALL then I agree with your DH BTW! Are you in the 5:2 mode? Grin

QueenOfHalloween You'll probably find that your stomach will get smaller naturally on ICMYT without the HGB!

QueenOfHalloween · 06/05/2013 14:32

Hopefully PP

Rulesgirl · 06/05/2013 14:43

PP I would never do 5:2 Shock
