Welcome to thread 11 of the Paul McKenna's I Can Make You Thin weight loss system.

The Golden Rules that will aid you on your journey with our like minded support system are:

  1. Eat what you WANT
  2. Eat when you are HUNGRY
  3. Eat CONSCIOUSLY
  4. STOP eating when you are satisfied and full

This weight loss system is about re-educating your body; learning to listen to it and in doing so losing weight and inches. After all, eating a meal is not a competition.

Many people have issues around food. Many of us have been brought up by the 'clear your plate' parents of yesteryear which leave us feeling guilty if we leave even the smallest morsel of food, but we are working through this guilt or any other hang up we might have, and we are learning to leave a bit on the plate; return to it another time if we really want to or even feed it to the dog or the bin!

So!! forget diets; they may work for a while, but they aren't permanent solutions. This is a new way of living for your brand new life!!

The Paul McKenna system really works and is easy to maintain.

I've C&P'd our previous threads links as they are helpful.

Here are the book choices on AMAZON which is all you need to get started! they aren't compulsory, but they do help! it's something to refer to and listening to the cd's can really focus you.

This is the tapping technique EXPLAINED - this can be useful to combat cravings.

You don't have to buy the book and CD, but we have found that they do help and somehow they keep you on track, so it would probably be a good investment and will cost you far less than a couple of trips to WW or SW meetings, so do consider having them in your life.

Please feel free to join us, whether it's 10lbs or 10 stones you want to lose.
We are friendly, supportive and successful, but we're not hungry OH NO we're not!!! so come on in and start living your new life today and make 2013 your year to drop a dress size or several.

oh aye the fruit ones are rank! yeh so many yummy combinations: dr.struart's valerian plus is magic for getting off to sleep, & his tranquility i like too (thinking of calm blue oceans aaahhh Grin ) recently discovered white tea with elderflower (contains a little caffeine, but less than green/black tea) it's so refreshing, tastes like summer . went to charity shop this morning & got a size 12 skirt! holy moley thought i was being optimistic trying it on! Smile

ppeatfruit · 03/05/2013 11:39

Yes BBB ref. coffee it only works as a diuretic for me when I don't drink it all the time (like I used to) .As I said when I stopped it I lost weight believe me! I reckon that our bodies get used to things and so they don't react the same way if you eat or drink something every day.

Though of course we're all different Grin Enjoy your weekend sounds like its going to be fun.

BigBoobiedBertha · 03/05/2013 11:50

We are going to Ironbridge and Telford ppeat (half way between us and the PIL). It is more of a boy thing than my choice of trip but I will do my best to remain cheerful and enjoy the view of the gorge and all that. We went last year and it peed down on us continually for the whole 2 days. I hope it won't be the same this year. How's the weather in France btw. Are you getting some sunshine too?

I did some Googling about coffee before I spouted off (wasn't sure if my bowel issues were normal or just me but apparently normal) and it isn't a diuretic. I would have thought it was but apparently it isn't. Having said that I know both tea and coffee have me peeing like a donkey so as you say, we are all different. Grin

Enough about bowels now though. Grin

I revisited the 'obsessive' dieter thread btw. That Mike is a bit of a twat. I very nearly said so too but I was polite...... for a change.Wink

veryberrybug · 03/05/2013 11:52

yey great to hear you'll be back on board BBB you go girl Grin

laughing at coffee theme - shit yourself thin/bloat yourself bigger? maybe it just affects people differently

know what you mean about accompanying baked goods: i don't drink coffee but with builders' tea only toast, biccies or buns can go with. fatal really when i have the 4 o'clock flop & seek out caffeine & sugar... but having said that graze boxes have helped stop the flop...Shock

ppeatfruit · 03/05/2013 15:40

That's very historic BBB Grin The weather here you'll be pleased to know is not very nice ( its one of the wet parts of Europe) Hmm in fact its been pissing down. We're looking after a golden retriever and she soaks up the rain like a sheep Grin But it makes me get out and walk properly twice a day so good Grin.

Don't start about biccies verberry Grin ;we're wheat free and our lovely wholefood supermkt is doing chocolate, spelt, non - palm oil biscs which are delicious and I mustn't eat so many of them Grin

ppeatfruit · 03/05/2013 15:44

I'm a bit Hmm about that thread BB well done for continuing on it i'm thinking about giving up, good to hear some sense from a bloke though. I think that both WW and SW have upped their healthy foods intake though which is an improvement despite the syns and points crap.

Rulesgirl · 03/05/2013 16:47

There not that healthy though. They recommend diet products all the time like Lo fat yoghurt , biscuits, crisps etc all full of rubbish and sweeteners. If you want a cake then have real cake with proper eggs real butter etc. Same as crisps, have a real crisp. The world might be healthier if people ate real food. It's much easier, no labels to read.

BigBoobiedBertha · 03/05/2013 21:23

ppeat - Shock I take no pleasure in the fact it is raining on you. What do you take me for?! That is a shame you are getting soggy especially if you are on dog sitting duties.......unless you have had warm dry weather for the last month or more. Then you are getting what's coming to you. Its your turn now.Grin

Is a bank holiday for France this weekend? I can't remember.

Rules - that is my philosophy too. It isn't a coincidence that the rise of the diet food market matches the rise in obesity levels. Eat real food that isn't full of chemicals and it will be much better for you. My personal bug bear is 'low fat spread (it was called marg in my day). The Mediterranean diet is supposed to be healthy. They eat butter and wouldn't touch marg therefore it is fine for the rest of us in moderation too.

veryberrybug · 04/05/2013 00:00

rulesgirl heehee i love the real food rant! reminds me of seeing PM on telly in some poor dieting wifey's hoose saying with much animation "does it taste like cardboard? then chuck it OUT!"

BBB & pp i thought you were brave going on obsessive dieter thread especially as they all sounded like stuck-in-the-trap-"well-done-on-your-weightloss"-believers. what a shame, no long ago i was there too. but if they're no willing to listen they won't hear.

BBB caffeine tea makes me pee like a donkey too... i'd be drinking & peeing but my insides were turning to dust!
re: mediterranean diet: i saw interview with 120 y old med lady; she said lots of olive oil & laughter = the answer, then "i've got one wrinkle & i'm sitting on it"!!! Grin

rulesgirl you're so right about crisps, havny eaten 'em for weeks 'til tonight, & admittedly i've had a wee gin. but hey it's friday. & i was actually hungry. tasted sooo much better than low-fat ones. it's true what PM says that when you're on a starvation diet you crave high fat/sugar foods, i've no thought about cake, crisps etc nearly as much as before. actually craved fruit & veg more ! the one i batttle with is sweeteners - i know they're evil but sweeter than sugar in my tea Blush

ppeat glad to find another spelt enthusiast - i get a loaf in my vegbox & it makes the besttoastever!! spelt flour also makes good shortcrust pastry with a little xanthan gum powder. quiches are go!
does dog go in rain & puff up comically?

rise in obesity also ties in with increased technology & screen-time & us no letting kids roam the neighbourhood as much as 3 generations ago, due to bastard tabloids moral panic-generating paedophile stories, when they have the same rate as 100 yrs ago. bastards (paedophiles & tabloid scum) Angry

veryberrybug · 04/05/2013 00:14

not wanting to finish on a negative, have a nice w/e everyone!

HadALittleFaithBaby · 04/05/2013 08:48

I don't know if its the bf hunger, hormones or what but real food tastes so good right now! I don't ever want to go back to eating diet crap! Brie and bacon toastie planned for breakfast. I'm currently watching Jonathan Creek on Netflix with a tiny baby snuggling on my chest letting DH have a lie in!

IME very few of these 'diet' programmes work long term. I got almost to goal with WW but could never get those last few lbs off, got disillusioned and gave up, put it all back on. Now, 16 months after starting Pauling I'm 10lb lighter than when I stated despite having a baby 3 weeks ago! :)

ppeatfruit · 04/05/2013 09:19

Morning everyone Grin Thanks BB The weather is improving now (we are often 3 days ahead or behind of U.K.) and a bit colder also a bit hotter so we have 'real' seasons.I like that I'd hate to move somewhere equatorial 'cos i burn in the sun whatever I do Grin. We have half day on Monday anyway and the Fr. have two days off for Ascension in the middle of next week!!

veryberryi make my own bread with spelt, rice and Kamut flour which is actually nicer than wheat! and easier you don't need to knead it Grin.

I agree about the ridiculous moral panic nowadays IMO it was worse in the old days the DCs were not believed and even punished for reporting abuseShock I'll never forget my friend telling me that after she fell down the stairs in her convent school a nun picked her up and then walloped her Shock

Hope you'll have a lovely long weekend too. thanks!

ppeatfruit · 04/05/2013 12:44

OOOh BB I never used that low fat spread after reading about the hygrogenated fat that was in all of them then (no wonder there's so much heart disease about). Olive oil is a miracle spread I use it instead of butter on and in everything!

HadAIt's such a lovely time when they snuggle up on you lucky you Grin it sounds like you are enjoying little Abby a lot!

BigBoobiedBertha · 04/05/2013 22:31

Veryberry, I'd let my two roam the streets. I am not giving in to the paedo panic. Sadly the little buggers darlings won't go! Grin

I suppose to be fair DS1 doesn't go because he has no friends or any desire for them either (he has Aspergers) and DS2 (he's 9) won't because none of his friends are out. Maybe their parents are worried about paedos although I think it is far more likely here that roads are an issue. All speed limits round here are 30 mph but people do silly speeds, given the chance, including at school home time - we live next to the school so get the fill force of thoughtless parents who drive and park like their little darlings are the first children ever to need picking up from school. I am pretty sure some of the speeders are doing the school pick up too. Angry

Ppeat It tipped down with rain here this morning although nice this pm. Perhaps we are getting your rain then. I don't like it proper hot either.
Delicate English Rose, me. Grin

Transfat/hydrogenated fat are the work of the devil. Maybe there are some 'bad' foods. Grin

Rulesgirl · 04/05/2013 22:41

Well I eat strong salted butter.Love it on whole grain toast seeded toast. Yum. I use virgin olive oil as my go to oil. Full fat greek yoghurt. Cream. Lindt chocolate or galaxy, kettle crisps, sugar glazed doughnuts, Mr. Kipling cherry bakewells, vintage cheddar, somerset brie, mozerella and pesto in a toasted pitta, bananas, pink lady apples with a wodge of said vintage cheddar, homemade lasagne and salad with full fat mayo, homemade curry with homemade mint yoghurt and popadom OM goodness, Im feeling rather hungry now. Just listing some of my favourite foods that I eat on a regular basis. Have always eaten these. I have been to peoples houses where they give me diet stuff and It just doesn't taste worth eating. I only put small portions on a plate anyway and using this method I never eat all of it.

veryberrybug · 05/05/2013 01:23

mmmmaking me hungry too! i'm with you on choc & butter, yoghurt & cheese & apples...in fact the lot! (bar poppadoms). having said that i stil dry fry eggs in 1cal spray... too greasy otherwise. i think tastes mature as we do too, just the last couple of years (since being 35) i'd much rather a little quality than a lot of cheapshit. when i was 22 i really didny taste the difference!

regarding diet food, i'm just starting to turn the tide from buying low-fat stuff - i always saw it as damage limitation before (maybe not realising in my desperation that i'd be unsatisfied by it & "roundabout snacking" when you go to sth else, then sth else, anon, none of them hitting the spot). but realising if i insisted on buying proper stuff for kids, i should do for me too (except i'm overweight & they're not, aargh - different needs makes me doubt again if i'm doing the right thing?)

a thought which stayed with me: if you read the ingredients & don't know what they are, your body probably doesn't either. what do youse think of that?

aye mums(&dads) on skool run in cars are scary, as a perpetually late person i'm glad i'm a non-driver as the most damage i can do is getting sweaty pits walking fast!! living in the city i'm gobsmacked how people hop in the car for the shortest distance, it probably takes longer to find a parking space than to walk there!! adding to obesity too i'll bet.

as for kids playing out, my DD1 (12) finds the main problem is moaning bastards assuming they're all dodgy teens worthy of an ASBO, when in fact they just want to scoot & have a giggle & willingly move out the way & be polite. i think some folk were never kids themselves!

hoping for nice day tomorrow ie. just no rain would be good! wee one wants a bike run. maybe we'll be windswept & interesting! Grin ok just windswept

pp what's kamut flour?

ppeatfruit · 05/05/2013 11:44

veryberry Kamut is another ancient wheat like spelt but even easier to digest (spelt gives me and DH wind sorry TMI!). I make pastry with it too. I use olive oil in my pastry and it's fine!

I follow my blood type (as you probably know if you've read these threads) which is for my health (I've a bad family history of cancer, heart disease etc.) Strangely apart from some dairy I don't fancy any of the foods that are 'avoids' for me. It is fascinating because I've always hated red meats whereas DH who SHOULD eat it it loves it!!

rules you sound like an AB or B type (all that cheese Grin).

tallulahmay · 05/05/2013 12:33

rules are you me???! I love proper butter, full fat everything and really truly cannot see the point of processed low fat anything. Although pp i think my blood type is O so am I killing myself?!

You know how he says that you'll have a wobble? I've wobbled all over the place. Biscuits I wasn't hungry for, toast I didn't want. Eating whole meals just because it was meal time. How do you deal with that?? If DH has made something I would feel so rude saying "no I'm not hungry, sorry" Help!

tallulahmay · 05/05/2013 12:38

PS pp can I have the recipe for the bread? I've long lurked around the thought that wheat doesn't agree with my digestion (wanting to be delicate here...) and I think I have a bit of an addiction thing going on: NEED to eat bread/toast/sandwiches/pasta but feel horrible afterwards. Have experimented with not eating wheat and after a very difficult first day or so I always feel amazing: light and well and am free of the achy joints I always seem to have. But then I give in and start eating it again. I'm also troubled by (and I don't want to cause a calamity as happened upthread) the "eating what you want" thing. I interpret that as "what my tummy wants when I am hungry for food" if that makes sense. I'd like to stop eating wheat but am afraid of the restriction/diet mentality that that might cause. Help! Again!

Flowers
ppeatfruit · 05/05/2013 13:43

Yes its an interesting one tallulah If you get the book Wheat Belly by William Davis MD it'll make a lot of sense to you. IMO P.M. says 'what you want' to get people away from the crap diet food but
he does also say if it makes you ill don't eat it. I'm not a great one for rules Grin I just go with what suits me Grin everyone is different e.g. tomatoes give me eczema so i don't eat them even if I fancy them. O types are okay with butter but you do have to be careful with cheese; sorry! You can eat most fish and meat (not pork though) and loads of fruit veg. olive oil etc. think caveman!!

I will also add that I've followed my blood type for a long time before going on P.M. and they're the best of both worlds IMHO Grin.

ppeatfruit · 05/05/2013 14:06

Kamut Bread recipe;-

Ingredients- (I do play my recipes by ear though!)

I kilo kamut flour
250 gr. spelt flour
100gr. whole rice flour
2 tabsp. dried yeast
hand hot filtered water (it depends on the flour) but a pint and a half should be enough
I f you like add a pinch of salt (i don't and it makes no diff.)
I tabsp. olive oil.
Pumpkin and linseeds or whatever you like

directions.; Make sure your bowls and flour (I use 2 bowls it makes it much easier to mix) are not cold. Mix the flours well and add the yeast, salt seeds or whatever. You can put the oil in the hot water which you put in a dip in the centre and stir well till it comes away from the sides of the bowl. Cover and leave till risen usually it takes about 4 hours. Then put in greased tins and bake for approx 1 hour at 200 C.

veryberrybug · 05/05/2013 14:33

hmm this blood type thing has got me thinking Hmm i read it once years ago & found some of it made total & utter sense (i'm O-type & total carnivore) took me back to when i was wee & i could've just eaten beef stew (aah the way mum used to make it!) & had to choke down tatties... but some of the "avoids" i couldn't bear to be without like bacon... but some were spot on like (i think) kiwi which makes my mouth itch. then more recently i did the curves high protein diet & totally overloaded on meat, then had to be veggie for a bit as my body started to balance itself out, i'd started getting arthritic feeling joints again like when i was 16 (had it bad for 2y) & read that red meat & dairy cause it... so pp do you follow blood type to the letter or just mostly with exceptions?

tallulah re: wobbles, i tend to wobble when stuff's just lying about,i see it & then go "ooh i'll have that" & then regret it as it disny taste right because i didny really want it... is this the case for you? keeping biscuits in an opaque tin (so i cany see them!) helps because they're there if i want but not sucking me in with the see-food-&-eat-it mentality.
also, i still struggle with leaving a piddly bit food on my plate, it's just so untidy& useless! (not enough to reheat) but found no problem leaving half a plateful when i'd defrosted something & it grew to a humungus portion, so when i left half it was a whole nother portion (tea tonight actually). could you say to DH "lovely, but can i have mines a bit later"? or if a bit hungry save half for tomorrow?

veryberrybug · 05/05/2013 15:07

pp is kamut flour part of the paleo caveman diet thing? there does seem to be something in the original strains being more aggreable to many tummies before man buggered about with hybrids etc.

olive oil in pastry sounds gd, i may try it! also many thanks i think the muffin-top-buster exercise is working! Wink don't look as pregnant as before LOL (don't plan going there again but everyone else don't know that!)

hada i remember sitting down for BF with a cheese & ham toastie many a time but brie & bacon sounds awesome! how's you & wee faithlet today?

ppeatfruit · 05/05/2013 19:08

That's brilliant about the exercise veryberry I include waist twists and side bends and I now have a sculpted belly (which wasn't the case when I was a size 8 and 20 years old strangely,I'm small hipped so I was sort of straight up and down IFYKWIM!) Kamut is like rye it's okay for O types. DH is horrible (exhausted, bloated, bad tempered) Lovely eh? when he's had wheat so even he keeps off it as far as he can.

Ref. the blood type i was the same as you when I read the avoids I was amazed and have been on it (bar the odd milk choc or eclair,Iam in Fr. Grin) for 13 years or so Shock] interestingly I have discovered that if i DO overindulge on the dairy I take turmeric and it removes any hay fever type symptoms. I 'wobble' too when i've made something lovely that is esp. for me!!

veryberrybug · 05/05/2013 22:03

thanks pp yes a waist is a lovely thing to have! next challenge - by losing my spare tyre i hope it will move down from just under my bust to the more normal location for a waist, around the bellybutton! Wink

i'll def have another look at the blood type book (think i saw it in the library) as i've noticed that despite absolutely loving cheese, i do tend to be a bit phlegmy the next day & use my puffer more...

i've a friend who gets really bad colitis & has to be very strict with her diet (gluten- & dairy-free, no insoluble fibre) & when she gets a bad flare-up she's to make a solution with turmeric & aloe vera & shove it up her bum! Shock apparently very effective anti-inflammatory Hmm so interesting you should mention it also

BBB hope w/e with PILs going ok, is Wine helping the view? Grin
