I'd love to lose a stone...

Classic case: been dieting for 10 years on and off, have a hubby who is probably a little underweight, have a 8mth old who needs stuff to be mashed, and I'd love to lose a stone. Saw a picture of me at a wedding yesterday, after I'd lost my pregnancy weight (only put on 6lb), and I nearly cried, looked massive.

I'm 25, a size 12-14, 5 7, and 11 st 8lb so a little chubby. I work 3 days a week and work in retail gardening so run around a bit and do lots of lifting.

I'd like to know if there's anyone who's managed to lose that last bit and if there's any tips?

Thank you

i think it was a very wise move on my part having a dry January as i dont think i would be losing any weight otherwise. Nothing quite like tv and a glass of wine on a cozy night in after work :S. Making do with peppermint tea tho and reviewing the 8 days of successful calorie counting tho Grin.

Is anyone meal planning or are you just buying in healthy food and making it up? Im trying to come up with exciting healthy options to reduce the chance of me falling off the wagon... Cant say my dinner of stir fry tomorrow is inspiring me tho...

Wommer · 08/01/2013 22:01

Dancing - I pretty much am making it up.
DH is sahd and makes dinner every night (not a stealthboast I promise!) I'm having the same but more veggies and less carbs.

Tbh we eat quite healthily anyway - it's all the shite that causes problems for me. That and portion control and stopping eating when I'm full - ie not going and getting a slice of bread and butter out of habit when I really don't need to etc.

daisydee43 · 09/01/2013 11:02

Yes same as you wommer - I have normal dinner but small portion with salad or if like last night when I did pie and chips, I had ww ready meal and salad Sad

Freerange - mmm salmon bagel! Does it have many cals?

REALLY craving cake! Am substituting it with a ww hot choc Sad won't be having my dinner til 8 tonight as going straight from work to my driving lesson, hope I survive until then

Urgh am with you daisy - it's the 4 o clock crash! Too long since lunch and not within reach of dinner yet!
Have had a cheeky hot choc (not ww) from our machine. Has the consistency and appearance of sugary dishwater though so it's prob not too bad Smile

Got rabbit stew for dinner.... Never had it before but the bloke over the road gave DH 3 rabbits on Sunday (useful kinda chap to know Grin)

daisydee43 · 10/01/2013 08:56

Had a sneaky mid week weigh in and so far lost another 1lb!! Really pleased last week wasn't just beginners luck. Got a few obstacles this weekend tho - sat lunch at beefeater which won't be too bad as can look up menu online and prob have salad. Sun lunch at a friends house won't be as easy to control as no idea what I'll be eating, last time I had chilli which was cooked quite healthily so hopefully just eat small? Argh!

Ok so I had a weigh in yesterday and over the entire xmas period I put on 1lb which is good, considering the amount of chocolate and crap i ate :)

Wommer · 10/01/2013 21:15

How's everyone getting on today?
Got my weigh in tomorrow...
Really not sure how it will be tbh just don't feel any thinner yet!

happybubblebrain · 10/01/2013 22:24

I made a really yummy Chinese vegetable and tofu curry with sticky rice for dinner, it was delicious. I didn't eat much at all through the day as I was super busy so I treated myself with a delicious dinner and pudding.

It's already the end of day 10, just another 355 days to go, probably. I'm feeling a tiny little bit lighter and my skin looks a bit better. So, all good so far.

daisydee43 · 11/01/2013 07:56

Wommer - I got my weigh I'm on tues but have been weighing myself throughout the week and I have already lost my 2lb for the week so very pleased. Have been giving it all tho and no cheating, did buggy fitness yesterday which nearly killed me but feel very determined. Have noticed my stomachs a bit flatter but that's all. So your not feeling that positive atm? How you been getting on?

Hi daisy,
Have lost 2lb this week which is good but I'm a a bit.... meh.
I guess it's cos the last time I dieted I did a very strict low carb which was super effective. I'm just not used to doing it slow and steady.
Will carry on though - 2lbs a week is a stone in less than 2 months isn't it?! The idea of being a stone lighter by the end of feb is amazous Grin

Well done on yours - that's supercool.
Will use this page to remind me to carry on slogging.

daisydee43 · 11/01/2013 14:40

Wommer- 2lb is great and you will definitely be a stone lighter by end feb, I think this is the most you should lose a week (I know mfp won't you lose more)

Thanks Daisy Smile I know you're quite right. I'm just really impatient!

assumpta · 11/01/2013 17:34

Hi, well done all you ladies. A stone is what I need to lose; well want to lose, I could probably do with a stone and a half, but maybe I am being greedy!

I am doing 1200 calories a day and started on Monday. I have been finding it ok, but I always do the first couple of weeks fairly ok, then lose momentum. Is it ok to save some daily calories for some weekend wine? I have had a good breakfast, only a light lunch, and am doing homemade aubergine curry, chicken tikka, basmati rice, and cucumber raita for dinner, which still leaves me quite a few calories. If I have 2 glasses of 175ml wine, maybe less, each 130cals, will this affect my weight loss, or does it not matter as long as I have enough calories to cover it?

daisydee43 · 11/01/2013 17:41

I tend to save enough cals for a glass of wine with dinner. I don't want to get into the habit of saving cals for weekend as I feel I might deprive myself during week

OP posts:
assumpta · 11/01/2013 18:02

Yes, I agree if I deprive myself I tend to go overboard with too much of something.

I try to keep calls for a small treat each evening, but no wine during the week. So I would only be holding some cals from today for wine today and cals from tomorrow for wine tomorrow. So do you think that would be ok?

DancingInTheMoonlight · 11/01/2013 18:20

Also the minimum recommended intake in a day is 1200 cals i think so if you eat less your body will go into starvation mode and you won't lose weight....its also not very healthy!

daisydee43 · 11/01/2013 19:52

So do you not have enough cals at end of weekend days for wine? I believe in ww you can save up cals for treats and that works so I don't see why it'd be a problem

OP posts:
assumpta · 12/01/2013 10:51

Hi, I do have enough call, I just don't usually bother with alcohol during the week, then I get that nice Friday feeling, when I am getting our dinner ready. With body going into starvation mode, I don't presume this would happen unless you were not using all your calories for a few days in a row? Would it?

assumpta · 12/01/2013 10:52

'cals'

daisydee43 · 12/01/2013 13:55

Not sure 100% how the body works with cals, maybe google it?

Just had a hot dog and a few chips at bowling, feel bit guilty but was the healthiest option Sad

Lost a pound this week WOOOOOO

I had a lovely thing during the week: roasted veg (butternut squash, beetroot, courgette) with a lovely sauce I got from M&S. It comes in a little glass pot and says 'very clever' on the label. It has chillies, shallots etc in it and it made my vegetables really delicious - in fact I just had a massive plate of roasted veg for tea on Thursday and nothing else.

daisydee, salmon bagel is probably calorific but I'm too scared to check because our school canteen doesn't have many low-fat options! Besides, I like it... I just have to make sure I'm good otherwise I suppose :) I'm not counting calories. I can't do that forever, so I want to cultivate a proper healthy attitude to food as opposed to the endless dieting I've been doing since I was nine years old.

My new year's resolution was to eat more of the things I like, and fewer shitty snacks and lazy meals. So I had a Thai red curry last night and it was AMAZEBALLS.

Today I've had a banana/special K for breakfast, and a banana for lunch, and a chocolate digestive. Dinner is fish and beans and some sort of veg. Maybe a handful of wotsits.

Hope to lose another pound this week to bring me down to 10st 7.25

Wommer · 13/01/2013 10:34

Omg!!! Just had a sneaky hop on the scales and since my disappointing 2lb loss (which if im totally honest was only 1.5lbsSad) on Friday have lost another 2.5 lbs!!!

Amazous!! GrinGrinGrin

Hope everyone else's weekend is going well Smile

On the subject of wine - I find more than the cal input I have a tendency to bloat and retain more water if I drink alot. I'm having a totally dry January to see what effect it really has.

In the long term though everything in moderation I reckon.

daisydee43 · 13/01/2013 21:08

Hoping this weekend hasn't let me down - big hot dog at bowling on sat and yummy homemade cottage pie with cheese and all the trimmings followed by apple crumble and custard cooked by friends - both days only had that all day plus light brekkie so fingers crossed Smile
