New Year Low Carb Bootcamp

1000 replies

BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 29/12/2012 21:30

Hope you all had a lovely Christmas, and that Santa brought you everything that you deserved! Xmas Grin

By now, I'm guessing that many of us will be rather tired of chocolates and stodgy food. Mince pie anyone? Xmas Wink

So. The next low carb Bootcamp will be starting on 7 January. It will run for 10 weeks, which will take us to mid-March. The idea of Bootcamp is that we have an initial strict fortnight, which will see a significant amount of weight loss, followed by a more relaxed 8 weeks.

Overall, if you follow the rules, you can expect to lose anything up to 20lbs in this time period.

So who is in?

If you want to join us, add your name to the list and tell us what your aims/objectives are.

I will start ...

Stylelostinlabour · 02/01/2013 18:08

I put the ham in cold water with an onion and carrot and then bring to boil, then simmer for a good couple of hours.

Once I've done that I take it out and then some mustard/honey paste on top after removing the rind and roast for about 25 minutes

vnmum · 02/01/2013 18:09

I didn't know about different butters either. I just try and get grass fed when i can.

On day 4 of harcombe phase 1 and although i had major carb cravings last night, today they have gone. Woo hoo.

Someone brought in fresh donuts to work and they just didn't interest me. MYbe zoe harcombe is right about the candida etc because since eating lots of natural live yog the cravings have lessened.

Now just to motivate myself to get back to the gym.

I have had a really bad headache all day

janx · 02/01/2013 18:34

I posted too soon thereGrin... No bread today or biscuits or cake...

BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 02/01/2013 18:35

Agree with you, BlackAffronted, that's a really good site.

Stylelostinlabour - of course, we won't be using honey on our ham in Bootcamp, will we? Wink Sadly, apart from the aubergine I think, those veg are all a bit carby. Certainly as a combination that will add up to a fair number of carbs. Better to roast cauliflower, courgettes, leeks or broccoli.

McKayz - I can't see why low carbing would be bad for you when you're breast feeding. After all, the days before man learnt how to grow/harvest grains, our diets would have been low carb anyway! But make sure you are eating well, and that your carbs are coming from veg/salad.

OP posts:
Stylelostinlabour · 02/01/2013 18:39

No honey of course not :)

Well I failed on my healthy tea but that's all the veg used up so can add the right stuff to my shopping list

I've never roasted Colli what do you do with it?

So if I roasted Cali, leeks, Aubergine and ? Would that be OK

BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 02/01/2013 18:41

Cut cauliflower into florets, sprinkle generously with olive oil and season with salt and pepper. It's lovely with ground cumin or chilli flakes sprinkled over it as well. (It roasts quite quickly - takes around 15-20 mins)

With leeks and aubergine would also be fine! Just remember plenty of oil, especially for the aubergine.

Mckayz - try making cauliflower rice. Grate a raw cauli, microwave till done. It's the same texture as rice, and I don't thhink it tastes like cauli.

Same with mash - I love mash, it's a real comfort food to me. Cook cauli, drain well. Whizz with butter. It's fab, jsut like mashed potatoes, same texture, no taste, low-carb!

For pasta, try making courgette ribbons.

For chips, use celeriac or swede.

Doshusallie · 02/01/2013 18:43

Mashed swede is also lush, lots of melted butter in it, yum

BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 02/01/2013 18:43

cocolepew - I'm not sure why you would feel nauseous. Is it time to POAS?

OP posts:
captainmummy · 02/01/2013 18:45

Style - second cauli roast! It's lovely. Also try courgette cut into chunks, shallots whole, new carrots.

BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 02/01/2013 18:47

Apologies if I have missed anyone's questions - there are so many of us now, and the thread is moving so quickly, it's easy to miss them!

style broccoli and/or cauli is amazing roasted from raw tossed in oil (I like groundnut) chilli flakes and sea salt. Aubergine and leeks sound good too!

EwanHoozami · 02/01/2013 18:49

x-post x1million Grin

cocolepew · 02/01/2013 18:51

No, I had everthing took out in August Grin

Going to heat up a cup of my soup, my head is banging.

Weighed myself and I'm at least 5lbs down since sunday, this is different scales so I'm not sure if that is accurate.

I logged onto MFP but can't be bothered to work it out atm, I'm on as this name Smile

EwanHoozami · 02/01/2013 18:52

maybe folks could underline questions for the time being so they don't get missed?

I've never used underline before, such fun!

cocolepew · 02/01/2013 18:52

Turnip/swede is lovely mashed with loads of black pepper.

BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 02/01/2013 18:54

All of you who are using MFP - apart from the fact I feel I'm missing out on all your chat Grin - the whole point of Bootcamp is to take the need to weigh/count out of the equation! If you focus on the list of allowed veg that is on the spreadsheet then there is no need to weigh/count anything. Honestly!

cocolepew - hope you're feeling better tomorrow. Take some paracetamol, drink plenty of water. Make sure your salt levels are kept up.

OP posts:
BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 02/01/2013 18:56

And as so many of you appear not to know about the allowed veg list, here it is, c+p for you:

Thanks,I'm drinking a lot but think it might not be enough. I'll stick a ton of salt in my soup, I'm a total salt fiend.

McKayz · 02/01/2013 18:59

Can I have water with juice in it? I absolutely hate water.
