The thing about goals, IME, is that you have to keep them realistic. When we start a diet, there is a tendency to focus on the end point - I have to lose x pounds or x stones. And, even worse, we usually put a time-frame on it. "I have to lose 20 stones by next Tuesday" kind of thing.
Thing is, your brain and your body just won't co-operate! If I knew back in February that I would still be plugging away trying to reach my 2 stone target, I would probably never have started! I had calculated that I would lose 2lbs a week, therefore it would only take me just over 3 months to lose the weight. Easy!
But life isn't like that. We will always have things that get in the way of those pesky 2lbs off a week.
And far better to embrace them rather than make ourselves feel even more guilty about it.
So my Wise Counsel this dreary morning is to reconsider whatever goals you have and ask yourself if, on the basis of how things have gone for you over the last few weeks/months, YABR!
We are very quickly swinging into the festive season, with the inevitable temptations that will come along. Be realistic about when you're going to go off piste - make sure that you enjoy it. There will be some occasions - like Ewan's - where there's nothing at all wrong with just eating and drinking whatever you want. Equally, though, be mindful about what you're doing, and get back on the wagon as soon as possible afterwards!
A healthy perspective is, I think, far more important than an obsession with (unachievable) targets - and will mean you are much more likely to achieve whatever goal you have set for yourself.
