Spreadsheet of Wonderfulness is here

Hope everyone is doing well.

I haven't weighed this morning - was a little bit distracted by a phone call from my lovely SIL in Australia, to announce the safe arrival of Gabriel Paul and Nell Florence Jean! Gabriel weighed 5lbs 2oz and Nell 4lbs 10oz, so good weights to say they are 3 weeks early.

So I'm a great aunty Grin

I know butternut is higher than other veg, but I have it quite often and it isn't a problem for me.

Biwi i don't understand it really, i mean to everyone without any knowledge of carbs surely they still know carbs mean bread and potatoes? what else would it mean lol oh i suppose they might just think pasta. i guess to me before i knew anything about carbs (and even my family knew this and they knew nothing until i explained) the main carbs are bread pasta and potatoes. i thought at least that was common knowledge! but at least your main course was a meat based dish :) and it sounds a lovely dinner out.

Ah well. It was a lovely evening, and just one of those things.

Thanks for the welcome, one pound down already don't tell me it's water which I'm taking as encouragement to keep going. Heartstart we WILL do it again.

Off for a brisk dog walk and a swim later.

Exactly jan. I wouldn't necessarily expect non-low-carbers to know the ins and outs of dairy products and the carb values of carrots and peas but bread/potatoes/pasta/rice is pretty basic!

Your dinner does sound lovely though biwi.

Wow BIWI - so carbs with every course! How do you feel today? I'd be bloated up like a balloon after that.

I missed out on dinner last night - we went to the pub to watch the rugby and kind of fell into vodka instead. 1 bowl of veg soup, then bath and bed.

Breakfast today - greek yog with a few berries.

I find butternut squash is fine for me too on the occaision that I have it. In the grand scheme of things I think it is a better carb, and there probably won't be too much of it within the dish so I reckon it sounds lovely!

Yesterday was another write off for me, I just cannot stay on track for a whole week it would seem at the moment. Luckily where I had carby things I didn't eat very much across the whole day so the damage didn't seem too bad this morning on the scales. Today will be a better day - bacon, eggs and mushroom for breakfast/brunch and we are having roast chicken with veg for dinner.

Welcome back Heartstart and NMP I think the good thing for you both is that you know that this WOE works for you when you stick to it, so you can climb back on the wagon and watch those pounds disappear.

I think it's really much harder to stick to any diet at this time of year. It's cold and wet (although it's beautifully sunny here today), there are a million things to do before Christmas, and it's harder to be as organised as you need to be with this WOE when you are trying to organise all of the Christmas stuff (that's what I keep telling myself!) The shops are full of gorgeous foodie goodies and I'm sure we are all putting pressure on ourselves to get into that LBD before the big day.

I'm finding that, having done this WOE for nearly a year now, that I am in danger of backsliding because I still haven't got my head around this as a Way of Eating for life - it still feels like a diet to me sometimes. I'm sure that comes with the emotional side of eating that many of us suffer from. I'm still losing weight, but it feels like a bit of a slog at the moment.

BUT we all know that if we do fall off the wagon a week of being good can get us back on track again, and at least with this WOE you can eat well, rather than on any other 'diet' where your mindset is to starve yourself if you put weight on.

I promised myself that when I got close to my target (11lbs to go) I would go and get measured properly for a bra as I have never done that before, and the posters on the S&B thread are always raving about how a good fitting bra can take lbs off you. So I trotted off to Rigby and Peller yesterday. I have been wearing 42C bras for every. She measured me - by eye - no tape measures involved. I am now the proud owner of 2 34E bras. I am also a considerable amount lighter in the wallet department Grin But the difference in how my clothes look on me is staggering. I didn't measure myself when I started this WOE but 8 inches off my bust is amazing! And my norks are the same size - but are heading ever southwards Grin

Off to the gym this afternoon for an hour's personal training. I desperately need to tone up - so that's going to be the next target after I've got rid of this 11lbs.

Well a very gruelling session with the PT this morning. If that hasn't burnt off some of those carbs, nothing will!

I don't feel great, tbh. Stomach is rumbling a la IBS, which is a bit concerning. I slept really badly too - no idea if that's just a coincidence.

I have to go out after my shower/lunch, to buy some killer shoes for a posh lunch I'm going to on Friday - and then I think I might take to my bed for an afternoon kip.

biwi. Your meal sounds amazing. I think you did the right thing just going with it, no point ruining a whole night out when it's clearly a write off food wise, by agonising over what is put in front of you.

Thanks all for carb content of butternut squash, hopefully will be ok.

teddy agree wholeheartedly about how hard it is at this time of year - Christmas baking, chocolate EVERYWHERE, mince bloody pies at every turn, never mind the alcohol, my personal nemesis as you all know. I too must tone up a bit, really looking forward to going to the gym and swimming this week after a week of no exercise.

Just been out for an extremely muddy family walk - had to strip both boys at the car, unreal. What is it about boys and mud?

Lidl yog for brekkie, celery, pâté, cheese, corned beef, cucumber, lettuce and mayo for lunch. 2 teaspoons PB for snack.

Happy anniversaries to all involved!

Dosh I know bitternut squash is not perfect but it is in quite a few IPD recipes so I always count it as not too terrible.

Well I not only fell off the wagon yesterday, I tumbled under the wheels, eating stupid amounts of totally wrong chinese food. Consequently had stomach ache and felt horrid.

I am finding a very strange side-effect of this diet, any psychology buffs out there? I am losing my sweet tooth (yaaay!) and so am not craving foods I would on other diets but I still get that "I want to eat something" feeling. The problem is that I don't know what I want to eat when I get that and am finding it quite agitating and unsettling. Does that sound totally weird? I have lots of suitable low carb snacks and know I don't want those but I'm finding it quite upsetting to not know what I want. Confused

Do you really want to eat though, Viper, when you get those feelings? Is it just that you would have eaten, before?

I'm off out on Friday for a Christmas lunch, that is always a very boozy affair. It's a private dining club that DH belongs to, and is usually around a 5-6 course meal, with a different wine with each course. The menu this year is pretty good from a low carb point of view, thankfully, although the amount of wine will put paid to me being good, and I will be eating dessert.

I am going to wear my new dress, and I found these shoes which are exactly the same fabric to go with it

I know! I tried them on with the dress, to make sure that they really went together. I optimistically took the size 10 into the changing room (I have bought a size 12), but sadly it still didn't fit.

Hi all and welcome back NMP and heartstart - good to "see" up you both back here. You know you can do it as you did it before , it's the emotional eating that gets me. If that's what you are struggling with I can recommend a chapter in IPD (although I see that India has fallen off the wagon recently by all accounts)

Happy anniversary Dosh and half! Hope you have both had a lovely day with yr Oh.

We have been out for lunch with good friends.
I had roast beef and turkey, Brussels sprouts, cauli, broccoli and braised red cabbage with gravy which was possibly carby. I then had cheeseboard but left the oatcakes that came with it. Feeling chuffed with myself and planning an omlette and salad for tea but completely stuffed.

Viper - Yes!!!!! I know exactly what you mean, I have that as well. I think it is to do with the texture of foods. I like the texture and crunchiness of carby snacks and the only thing that vaguely replicates that I find is pork scratchings. Sometimes those atkins bars do the trick though and although processed and not ideal and everything I think probably better than a whole tube of pringles or toast anyway... maybe buy one of those for next time and see if that does the trick? Other than that I try to have cream cheese and celery or try to drink something like a peppermint tea as nothing in my mind goes well with a peppermint tea!!!

Is peanut butter allowed? I used to buy thoses little packs of macadamia nuts for those moments when you crave something bad.
