Week 4 - Little Black Dress Low Carb Bootcamp - where the going gets tough ...

Morning all!

Come and confess all on the Spreadsheet of Wonderfulness

By now, you may be finding it tough going. The weight loss is nothing like it was in the first couple of weeks. In fact, you may even have seen the scales show a gain.

This is quite normal at this stage, as your body is shifting/has shifted into fat-burning mode, and you are now burning only fat. No more water loss. Long-term, sustainable weight loss is likely to settle at 1-2lbs per week.

By now, though, you should be more used to this WOE, and it should seem a more normal way to eat. Hopefully you've sorted out how to plan for times when you're out and about, and have a few strategies up your sleeve for the unexpected. And hopefully you are also better at knowing what does and doesn't work for you.

Here's to a good week to us all. Smile

Thanks. If anyone knows how healthy LC is in pregnancy would appreciate info.
Was a slave to sugar when DD was small. Perhaps that normal but keen to try to keep on track as best I can. Good to have something to focus on during these early nervy weeks!

liveinthepresent - hooray! how wonderfully exciting.

I am by nooooo means an expert but a friend of mine was considered high-risk for gestational diabetes in her second pregnancy and she thinks it was following a LC diet that helped her avoid it.

NewStartSameStory · 24/10/2012 12:55

Congratulations liveinthepresent [hgrin]

Poppy1234 · 24/10/2012 13:23

Congratulations Liveinthepresent what lovely news.

Winegless the curry was adapted from a BBCgoodfood one, www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/890656/lamb-and-spinach-curry I mostly followed the recipe but used more lamb, shallots instead of onions, a tin of tomatoes instead of fresh and I cooked it very slowly for hours. I pureed 2 bags of blanched spinach which I mixed in at the end. DCs wolfed it down, it really was gorgeous and highly recommended.

B: Greek yoghurt
L: Leftover lamb and spinach burgers
D: Thai salmon burgers with mayo, roast green beans, courgette and salad.

Poppy1234 · 24/10/2012 13:25

BIBW I totally forgot to ask, I may have developed a taste for hotel chocolat 100% dark chocolate and have been nibbling after my lunch. There is no nutritional information on the packaging. I'm hoping you are going to tell me it's okay.

JessicaWakefield · 24/10/2012 13:34

Many congratulations Liveinthepresent! I did a sort of bootcamp ultra-light when I was pregnant with DD. So I didn't eat the usual suspects, bread, pasta, sugar etc but I ate a fair amount of fruit, and had porridge, oat cakes and houmous etc. I felt really well doing that, had a very healthy pregnancy and only gained about a stone and half. I figured that that "healthy" high carb eating is a modern phenomenon and moreover lots of cultures like the Inuit and the Masai don't eat carbs at all and I'm sure their babies do just fine! Wishing you all the very best Thanks

Brasssection · 24/10/2012 13:39

Congratulations livein!

Viperidae: which sweets were they. I need them. [hblush]

Looks like I'm the only veggie low carber here. Oh well.

I suspect that there are hundreds of people lurking and taking inspiration from this thread (just as I did) so if any of you are vegetarians, can you please let me know if you have discovered any low carb sausage or burger alternatives? All the usual suspects are very high carb.

jan2013 · 24/10/2012 13:50

hi everyone

hope you all are doing really well and keeping up in the low carbing! i was doing well, then dd was sick for about a month, then i got a bit of a bug which meant i ate a lot of toast as it was the only thing i could eat, and found it hard to get back on track.

now im in a rut of eating greek yoghurt, dark chocolate and cheese and tuna salads and not much else for the past 2 weeks cos i have limited time to cook. i really need inspiration as i feel exhausted and its probably cos im not getting enough nutrients. i will have to have a read at the recipie thread and see if there is anything thats v quick and easy to make.

:) :)

Congratulations liveinthepresent !! Lovely news. [hsmile]

Well I have had a couple of testing days, but stuck to bootcamp rules. Yesterday we were on a family day out and I had packed good LC lunch for me, but when we got there it was freeeeezing (outside activity) and salad did not seem appealing!! DH wanted chips from the snack bar and god! They smelt good as I was waiting in the queue! And i was wavering ... But when I got to the front, I saw a little handwritten sign "home made soup, cauliflower and broccoli!" So that's what I had. And on the way home later than we planned, Ds was starving and it was his turn to want chips so for the 2nd time that day I bought chips and sat on my hands not to eat any!!!

Yesterday
B yoghurt
L c&b soup, 2 slices roast pork, black coffee
Snack turkey and pork sausage, lettuce and cucumber
D pâté, another slice roast pork

Today
B 3 small rashers bacon, 2 poached eggs
Then took Ds to a party at soft play where I resisted the lattes and home baking and just had a fruit tea. The cakes at this place are awesome, but I kept thinking about the scales on Monday and didn't cave! But we had to do a detour to pick up something Dh needed on the way back so didn't get home till half two and I was ready to commit carb murder. Hoovered a slice of ham to keep going while I made my lunch
L small roast salmon fillet with mozzarella melt on top, buttery leeks and mushrooms.

I think I am probably the furthest away, I'm in the North east of scotland. So I may have to be at meet up in spirit or Skype!!

Feeling a bit low actually, not sure why, am hoping its not the start of a winter bug. Please no, another 4 days till the schools go back!

WineGless · 24/10/2012 15:26

Ooh toomuch I'm on my way to your neck of the woods on sat to visit parents as its our half term week. If you fancy meeting up for a coffee if not too far apart then pm me

halfthesize · 24/10/2012 16:01

Congratulations present

WineGless · 24/10/2012 16:15

Wrote two posts hen but only one posted!

Congratulations present, that's brilliant news.

Jan - good to hear you are ok. We've been wondering how you and DD were getting on. Why don't you do some batch cooking and freeze portions for gnome you don't have time to cook along with frozen veg

Brasssection · 24/10/2012 16:20

I think I am finally going into the not very hungry zone. Couldn't finish lunch today. Absolutely unheard of for me.

MegTheCat · 24/10/2012 16:29

Congratulations Liveinthepresent (assuming BFP means pregnant? - what does it stand for??)
Meet up sounds like a lovely idea. I'm in Manchester so not sure how practical travelling will be for me. Rail is generally pretty quick to most places, but can be a bit pricey.

MegTheCat · 24/10/2012 16:40

Jan - what Wine said. If you have a bit of time at the weekend you could make stuff for the week eg:

  • soup - I put it straight into soup cups and put them in the fridge to microwave when I want them. I was so happy today as I found a cup of the amazing celeriac soup (from the recipe thread) at the back of the fridge which I'd forgotten I had.
  • crustless quiche - on recipe thread but can vary as you want. Brilliant for a quick breakfast. Mine this week is smoked salmon and (leftover steamed) broccoli. Unfortunately dh has scarfed about half of it.
Lots of lovely stuff on recipe thread. Am going to have a look now and see if there is anything new
Doshusallie · 24/10/2012 18:49

[wants to go to Scotland for meet up with Wine and Toomuch]

was really looking forward to picking the boys up from CM tonight, it was all halloweeny outside, lots of bonfire smells, all autumnal which is my favourite time of the year. CM proceeded to tell me they had been really cheeky all afternoon and she seemed really upset. So had to give them a huge bollocking instead. Sad

Doshusallie · 24/10/2012 18:51

Meg I could be wrong but I think it stands for Bloody Fucking Postive. But that could just be my potty mouth.....
