Week 1 Weigh-In - Little Black Dress Low Carb Boot Camp

WillieWaggledagger · 30/09/2012 16:17

i know you're all dying to get started on the low carb boot camp, and for those who haven't done this before, here is the link to the spreadsheet where you should record your starting weight for Monday 1st October in column c next to your name. Please don't touch any other columns for now

weight is recorded in lbs, so if you have problems converting from kg or stones, FiddledeFat made a handy widget which can be found in the tab at the bottom labelled 'conversion'

if your name isn't on the spreadsheet then you can add yourself by adding a new line and dragging the formulae down from an adjacent row, or just ask me to add you and I will do so as soon as i can

good luck with the first week of bootcamp!

Champagne? Envy

I want chocolate, now!!! humph

I never normally want, or eat, chocolate but by God I was willing to hunt down BIWI for her big stick and keeeeeeel you all for some chocolate!

NewStartSameStory · 01/10/2012 23:19

I have learnt two very valuable lessons today.

  1. sleep is very important to this. No sleep = no will power
  2. Not eating enough will scupper you and make it very hard to resist and be focused.

confession i slipped tonight. should have been asleep hours ago, life kicked off and needed dealing with. Ate chocolate. Didn't want it, didn't need it. It was just there. Didn't make me feel better, didn't make me less hungry. Actually made me feel miserable. This is new. chocolate has been my go to recently. I went and calculated my calorie intake for the day before slip up. It was around 600cal today. No where near the 1200ish that is recommended for basal metabolic requirements. So no wonder I am struggling. Thing is, didn't feel hungry earlier. Are there any tips to get around this? How to ensure you have a sensible calorie intake when you are not feeling hungry?

NewStartSameStory · 01/10/2012 23:23

i don't want it no more. It can go to a different home.

MmeLindor · 01/10/2012 23:25

What were you eating that you only used up 600 cals?

WineGless · 01/10/2012 23:29

What did you have to eat today, lets see if we can point you in right direction

NewStartSameStory · 01/10/2012 23:34

2 boiled eggs, 3 sausages and a small bowl of cottage pie without the potatoe (leftovers)

NewStartSameStory · 01/10/2012 23:35

Oh and a slice or two of plastic cheese.

NewStartSameStory · 01/10/2012 23:36

PLus 2 coffees with sugar and milk. Other then that only drunk water.

WineGless · 01/10/2012 23:38

Ok that's not much at all.
Where are your veg which will have the small amount of carbs you need?
What fat have you had?

Balance should be fat/pr0tein/carbs to your meals.

You need to plan lots of green veg/salad to accompany meals and have mayo/oily dressings on the salad and fry veg in butter. Honest,y it's yummy, plus the vitamins in veg need fats with them to be soluble and absorb

WineGless · 01/10/2012 23:41

What are you planning for tomorrow/rest of week?

You can use cauliflower or celeriac as mash for toppings on cottage pie and fish pie

Courgettes can be sliced up and fried to use instead of noodles or pasta if you are making spag Bol etc.

It's trying to adapt what you already make for the others you live with but planning really helps

WineGless · 01/10/2012 23:42

Off to bed but hope this hops, keep posting. I started original Bootcamp and can't believe I stuck with it and how much it changed my life

NewStartSameStory · 01/10/2012 23:47

Tomo's plan is this:

4am scrambled eggs (prob 2)
7:30am Yoghurt, sausage or two, Celery, few nuts (not technically allowed but mid training snack and will be last resort)
Lunch is in middle of meeting and catered non avoidable but if like last one 1 slice bread with some filling (fancy sized triangles and will network rather then eat)
Tea - grab bag of salad or something similar from Tesco and eat whilst ds does his activity conviently during tea time and meaning proper food not available til 9pm

Was going to sit down and proper meal plan wednesday morning when the crazy shit stops and I have a hour or two to meal plan properly.

WineGless · 01/10/2012 23:53

How about getting some mange tout and sour cream and chive dip in tesco instead of just salad?

NewStartSameStory · 01/10/2012 23:58

I am going to take a lot away though. My two mistakes I am sure are ones that others have and will make. I am not alone. And as for the state of mind re the slip up. I didn't say fuck it and it didn't resort to comfort. It was habit. It was there eat it and that gives hope that I will break this. And I say that as someone who would eat their own body weight in chocolate on a bad day in the past, figuratively speaking. And a good day would exist of mostly carbs.

I can I will do this. And I think my first big challenge is going to plan in lots of veg. I, erm, am not the best veg eater.

Also vit Bs have been supplimenting with marmite on toast. Obviously not allowed is there any way to obtain or is suppliments a good stop gap until I get a grip of this new woe?

NewStartSameStory · 02/10/2012 00:06

mange tout is very high in sugar that allowed? Also have to be as dairy free as possible which sucks so tomo's yoghurt will be a soya based one. I know I am cheating with the cheese atm but that is going to have to go when I get more to grips with everything. However, it is sounding tempting so will give a good consideration. I think once I have sat done after sleep and can plan properly it is going to be easy but the impulsive decision to start on my craziest week was perhaps not my wisest decision. Probably wouldn't have done it otherwise though.

Thanks Wine.

Made the schoolgirl error of getting on the scales... 2lb UP...sob! Wondering if it's this weekend's carbs coming in late to bite me Sad
Oh well onwards and downwards, mushrooms and bacon for breakfast.

tartiflette · 02/10/2012 07:13

newstart I think a vit B supplement is a good idea with this way of eating, until you get to the maintenance stage and start to phase back in some wholegrains.

TellMeLater · 02/10/2012 07:31

Cathy there are many reasons why the scales can shoot upwards and when it's over night it can't be anything other than fluid retention. You will lose a lot of weight in bootcamp but to begin with most of it will be water, actual fat loss will be slower...as it is for every diet.

I read recently about how you can gain weight up to 4lbs when you exercise to begin with, apparently the muscles temporarily hold water to help them repair and grow. How demotivating is that?

teaandthorazine · 02/10/2012 07:36

Hmmm, well not my greatest day ever...

Lunch was leftover celeriac dauphinoise with a few slices of cucumber and some Serrano ham.

Dinner was lamb kebab, green spice chicken tikka and sag paneer. And popadom, wine and a slice of chocolate cake Blush. Ah well, it was dp's birthday... and I didn't drink the whisky or eat the kilo of chocolate Grin

Onwards and upwards today. Stupid thing is that the cake was really quite dry and tasteless - still finished it though...

Well done to everyone who got through their first day yesterday. Despite the above, I'm a huge fan of low carb and I know it works, having lost a stone and a half with ease eating absolutely delicious food!

motherofluvlies · 02/10/2012 07:44

I was really craving my rubbish snackies last nite so had sme nuts (about 5g of carb worth) and slimline tonic and it worked :) I didn't go in cupboard and felt like I was having a treat.
That's doable isn't it BIWI it's either that or munch until it all kicks in.

Bacon and egg scoffed
Water
Coffeee
Supplements

Second day

Think little ( well big in my case but any dress would be nice) black dress
Energy

Good luck today everyone :) good choices

WineGless · 02/10/2012 07:50

I have a mug of bovril for Vit b-would that work newstartsamestory IOU may find that you actually like veg once your taste buds change from the sugar addiction you currently have, if anyone has said to me I would enjoy cabbage before this woe I would have laughed but its one of my favorite veg now

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 02/10/2012 07:52

I was such a good girl yesterday! thought it would be very difficult but it wasnt - managed to resist my fave sour cream and chive pretzels and DH had some after 8's and he offered me some. Cant believe I said no ta. Grin

just had my scrambled eggs for breakfast and then once DC are delivered to school going to go meet friend for coffee (black) and have a mooch around town.

well done on resisting motherof it isnt easy but you did it! woop.

WillieWaggledagger · 02/10/2012 07:54

and veggies can only be improved by the addition of melted butter or an oily dressing!

wordfactory · 02/10/2012 08:22

Another day, another dollar here in Casa Wordfactory.

Yesterday went well.
Scrambled eggs for breakfast.
Left over pork caserole for lunch.
Cheese omlette for supper.

DH is away so that makes life immeasurably easier.

Today I have had scrambled eggs for breakfast, but I am meeting a production team for lunch and the restaurant is a veggie place...suspect it will be carborama on the menu.

Jacaqueen · 02/10/2012 08:39

Had roast chicken with salad and mayo last night. Felt a bit peckish later on but resisted all temptation and went to bed.

Second day with no tea, well no builders tea with milk. I have been drinking herbal tea and trying to up my water.

Not sure about food plan for today, which can be dangerous and lead to snacking so I better get myself organised.
