Week 1 Weigh-In - Little Black Dress Low Carb Boot Camp

WillieWaggledagger · 30/09/2012 16:17

i know you're all dying to get started on the low carb boot camp, and for those who haven't done this before, here is the link to the spreadsheet where you should record your starting weight for Monday 1st October in column c next to your name. Please don't touch any other columns for now

weight is recorded in lbs, so if you have problems converting from kg or stones, FiddledeFat made a handy widget which can be found in the tab at the bottom labelled 'conversion'

if your name isn't on the spreadsheet then you can add yourself by adding a new line and dragging the formulae down from an adjacent row, or just ask me to add you and I will do so as soon as i can

good luck with the first week of bootcamp!

Ps keep going all the newbies, you are doing really well. Soon it will be second nature and you won't miss any of it except the wine

MmeLindor · 03/10/2012 19:44

I do think that low-carb food would sell. Look how many of us are doing it on MN, and it is getting more well known.

I agree that on the go food would work well. I don't know if I would buy ready meals, cause most of what I am cooking is pretty quick and easy anyway.

Had omelette with wild mushrooms, spinach and ham for breakfast, salad with chicken and caesar dressing (found a yummy one that is reasonably low carb) and the most delicious beef stir fry with broccoli and asparagus.

Have drunk loads of water today, and am not opening another bottle of wine till I get to Germany on Sunday.

MmeLindor · 03/10/2012 19:44

((hugs)) Winegless - was thinking of you today.

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney · 03/10/2012 19:45

Ok I am pishing like a carthorse, but haven't pooed yet since starting Monday am. My jeans actually feel tighter on the abdomen and my tum is sticking out more I think.

Normal or I am going to swell up and then explode in a shower of hard poo crystals?

Am drinking 2 to 3 litres water plus one real black coffee each day.

Biwi, help?!

BigStickBIWI · 03/10/2012 19:46

What have you been eating, toomuch - list your menus for me since Monday!

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney · 03/10/2012 19:47

And support to winegless and colleagues today, I hope you found comfort in each other.

sorry really meant to put that in my first post.

BigStickBIWI · 03/10/2012 19:52

WineGless - I was watching it on TV and thinking about you. (And wondering which of them was you, too!)

Awful that the same thing will have to happen all over again tomorrow Sad

I saw it on the news earlier. So sad and horrible but heartwarming that there were so many people there

Ok biwi here goes:

Mon
B 2 egg plain omelette
snack of carrot and hummus (I know but I was out and it was the lowest carb option in the shop - yes we need low carb to go snacks)
L slice of ham spread thick with Philly cheese. There was something else but I can't remember, cucumber and ?
D bowl of chilli. It did have kidney beans in it but nothing else unapproved I think, (red onion garlic chilli paprika mince tin of tomatoes mushrooms splash of Worcester sauce salt pepper) served with guacamole and sour cream

Tues
B 1 egg scrambled with a little smoked salmon, 1 slice ham
L bowl leftover chilli with a little leftover guac/sour cream
D sausage casserole (red onion, garlic, low carb 98% pork sausages, tin tomatoes, mushrooms, green pepper, carrot, swede, herbs)

Today
B plain yoghurt
Mid morning fried egg, 1 piece bacon, 2 sausages, grilled tomato and mushrooms
L half bowl of leftover chilli, finishing it off
D salad leaves with cucumber, feta, 1 beet root, and extra v olive oil, plus broccoli and a little egg mayo, 3 small cold meat balls (carb 7 per 100g)

Ok reading it back I can see its really meat heavy, not totally bootcamp and I haven't really got started on the veg and salad yet, I have shopped today and bought leeks, courgettes and avocado so hopefully this will help the poop situation!!

Ilovemyteddy · 03/10/2012 20:16

I found a low carb takeaway place near Blackfriars bridge last time I was in London. Food was divine and not expensive ( for London!)

I think we need to start a lottery syndicate so that if we win we can start a chain of fast food lc takeaways and a ready meal company.

Who's in? Grin

Poppy1234 · 03/10/2012 20:17

Just had loveliest dinner, such a fan of cauliflower. It was ginger pork fried cauli rice adapted from a recipe in Bill Granger's new book Easy, it was devoured by the whole family (including my husband, one of the fussiest eaters in the world, he has never knowingly eaten cauliflower). I must post in the recipe thread, although measurements are super non specific.

I have to say the water consumption is becoming much easier as the more I'm drinking the more I seem to want water.

Night all.

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 03/10/2012 20:17

I am desperate for something sweet this evening but I know it is boredom and not hunger. I am having a cup of tea, watching food hospital and chatting on the phone.

Distract me! [brin]

gless was watching the news this evening and thinking of you. ((wee hug))

TellMeLater · 03/10/2012 20:18

I am falling off the low carb wagon on Friday. For a special treat - I am going out to dinner with ds (9) and he has asked if I can forget the low carbing for once, just relax and enjoy dinner, he's nostalgic for the good old days, I think I may be able to sneak a steak in for main course but the pudding will slap me in the face. I will zero carb for the rest of the day and go for a long run on Saturday to burn off the carbs and get back on track ASAP.

BigStickBIWI · 03/10/2012 20:43

TooMuch - nothing wrong with being meat-heavy! But - your menus are also, I think, too carb-heavy. The risk you take here is that you're eating high fat but also reasonably high carbs, which will make weight loss difficult.

You have had:

carrot and hummus
chilli - with kidney beans, onion, tin of tomatoes and guacamole

bowl leftover chilli with a little leftover guac
sausage casserole - with red onion, tin tomatoes and carrot

half bowl of leftover chilli
1 beetroot, and 3 small cold meat balls (carb 7 per 100g)

If you add all these up, you could be eating a lot of carbs. Did you make the guacamole or buy it? If you bought it, did you check how many carbs?

Onion is carby - use shallots instead, and beetroot is really carby, at 9.5g carbs per 100g - which is why it's not on the allowed list! Sorry to pick your menus apart Grin I know that wasn't the original problem that you were asking about!

You need to eat veg from the allowed list, and to focus on those that are 3g carbs or less.

In terms of the bloating, you need to drink more water - you should be drinking at least 3 litres.

Re going to the loo, more fat could help you, along with the water. Other things that can help include strong coffee (preferably black, so you're not adding carbs from milk!), and - apparently - a high strength vitamin C tablet. Others have talked about using linseeds/flaxseed - but I've never used this so can't say if it works or not. (Actually I wouldn't know about any of them, as thankfully constipation has never been a problem for me).

One final remedy, which goes against Bootcamp rules because it contains artificial sweeteners, is Thornton's Sugar-free chocolate and/or toffee. The polyols (sweeteners) have a laxative effect. You have been warned ... Grin

Liveinthepresent · 03/10/2012 20:43

Can't quite keep up with you all but am amazed that it's day three and I feel fine. In fact I feel thinner already ( no carb bloating). Normally by this stage I have cheated with wine or nuts but so far so good.
I have enjoyed everything I have eaten so much today - I just need reassurance was this really allowed ( or am I about to get a BIWIbashing?)
For lunch I had avocado stuffed with some cooked prawns, a dribble of cream, some grated cheese on top and baked in the oven.. Delicious - I hope it was ok?

Oh and whoever came up with kale crisps I salute you - had them with my lamb chops for dinner - delicious!

BigStickBIWI · 03/10/2012 21:04

That sounds perfect, Liveinthepresent! Glad you're feeling fine.

My day today:

Breakfast (pre-gym) yoghurt with vanilla extract
Lunch - belly pork with leftover red cabbage
Dinner - celeriac/leek mash and spicy beef stew (leftover from last night)

3 cups coffee, 1 Berocca, coming up for 3 litres water

Doshusallie · 03/10/2012 21:07

Made the salmon fish cakes with soy sauce and green pesto. Served them with buttery cabbage and leeks. Totally lovely. And have not succumbed to wine or gin and feel very proud of myself.

BigStickBIWI · 03/10/2012 21:26
Grin

Well done!

Doshusallie · 03/10/2012 21:31

Grin thanks biwi

CakeMeIAmYours · 03/10/2012 21:38

Was thinking of you today gless - Hope you're ok this evening Smile

My menu for the day:

B - 2 x grilled sausage/fried egg/2 rashers bacon

L - Prawns in Mayo and lemon juice in lettuce wrap (not as nice as yesterday's version with crayfish tails tbh)
D - Thai chicken curry (tiny bit of thai curry paste, coconut milk, lime juice, chopped coriander)

I know coconut milk isn't great, but I found one with 1.6g carbs per 100ml and I measured out 45ml so not too bad. I'm going to have a go at making my own thai curry paste, as the shop bought one is relatively high in carbs at 5.6g per 100g.

Tbh, felt awful today so actually quite pleased I stayed on the wagon.

I'm just scared of BIWI's stick!

Viperidae · 03/10/2012 21:46

Having a stressful time at work atm so was late home and the meatzza idea fell by the wayside so might try it tomorrow.

B: Bacon, scrambled eggs, sausage, mushrooms
L: Lettuce, tomato, prawns and home-made thousand island dressing
T: Curry made from left over belly pork, left over celeriac rancheros, onion, mushrooms and coconut cream

Probably not drunk enough water today and am struggling to fit exercise in but am trying.

No Diet Coke at all today! Woohoo!!

BigStickBIWI · 03/10/2012 21:48

That looks like a good day, Cake! Sorry you're feeling awful. Is it carb flu or are you going down with something else?

And well done on avoiding Diet Coke, Viperidae.

I've posted this before,

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney · 03/10/2012 22:13

Ok biwi I will try to cut out more carbs, I thought tomatoes were allowed? The chilli was a special request for guest so wasn't really my choice. The guac was ok carb wise per the label.

I am drinking at least 2 if not 3 litres water, today was def 3 + and I do drink my coffee black anyway. I'll try the vit c as it can't do any harm anyway.

I am off to look at the recipe thread for some inspiration as I am new to this and obviously need some help!

PrincessSparkle86 · 03/10/2012 22:34
