Week 1 Weigh-In - Little Black Dress Low Carb Boot Camp

WillieWaggledagger · 30/09/2012 16:17

i know you're all dying to get started on the low carb boot camp, and for those who haven't done this before, here is the link to the spreadsheet where you should record your starting weight for Monday 1st October in column c next to your name. Please don't touch any other columns for now

weight is recorded in lbs, so if you have problems converting from kg or stones, FiddledeFat made a handy widget which can be found in the tab at the bottom labelled 'conversion'

if your name isn't on the spreadsheet then you can add yourself by adding a new line and dragging the formulae down from an adjacent row, or just ask me to add you and I will do so as soon as i can

good luck with the first week of bootcamp!

cathy - I don't bother with the ketostix. If you've got the breath thing, and you're keeping your carbs low, you are in ketosis. And if you're drinking plenty of water, as recommended, then you will be flushing the ketones away anyway.

dotty2 - I don't know, but will see what I can find out...

halfthesize · 03/10/2012 11:22

Thinking of you and your colleagues today WineGless

BIWI & vnmum hope you feel better soon.

Breakfast for me was boiled egg and a coffee. Drinking loads seem to be constantly thirsty again like I was back in April, also no energy!

Enjoy your day ladies, oh welcome to all the newbiesSmile

WillieWaggledagger · 03/10/2012 11:38

biwi and vnmum i had something over the weekend but it didn't quite 'take hold' - hopefully it will be the same for you both

Welcome HRH

Am hosting a casual dinner tonight and walking around the supermarket and H&B was torture. Pure torture.

Am eating mid-morning food - Olives, chillis in oil, guacamole, mini peppers suffer with feta, and Aoilli (bought to replace the M&S mayo however, it contains dextrose so am going to have to get to a larger Sainsbury's for the Delouis Mayo)

I ate a small handful of dried fried onions (salad topper) before remembering they are covered in wheat flour. Sheesh. It really makes you think about the carbs. you are putting in your body, this diet.

Livelongandprosper · 03/10/2012 11:44

Thinking of WineGless here too

vnmum · 03/10/2012 11:50

cathy I listened to a pod cast the other day by mark sisson (it was linked on the other thread) and I am sure he mentioned on their that after you have been low carbing for a while and are keto-adapted you won't get any change on the ketostix because your body has adapted to using ketones for energy so is using them all rather than spilling spare ones out in your wee

foosty · 03/10/2012 11:55

thanks for the info re ketosis

just did my circuit class and felt really light headed half way through it. Came home and have had eggs, sausage, mushrooms, some cheese...yum. Feeling better! Really, really need to concentrate on getting 3 litres of water down me I a crap at that part and do feel like it would make a difference.

I don't know for sure what's happening with WineGless today but I think I can guess. Sending my thoughts her way too.

HumphreyCobbler · 03/10/2012 11:56

halfthesize, you may need to top up your essential salt level? Being tired and constantly thirsty may been you need potassium etc

PrincessSparkle86 · 03/10/2012 12:05

frumpet · 03/10/2012 12:25

So how many carbs are we aiming for a day , approximately ?

Ilovemyteddy · 03/10/2012 12:34

Interesting article about flaxseeds BIWI. I'd decided to stay off them for Bootcamp but wonder if the odd MiM is allowed now that they appear to be low-carb? I couldn't find a carb-count for them on that article.

LittleFrieda · 03/10/2012 12:40

They sell that Delouis mayo at Waitrose too.

BigStickBIWI · 03/10/2012 12:42

I'm a bit ambivalent about those MiMs - I've never had them myself, but others have reported that they have impeded their weight loss

frumpet - we're not aiming for a specific amount, but to give you an idea of context for Bootcamp, Atkins Induction is 20g per day. Dr Charles Clark would say 40-60g a day (but he didn't have an initial, strict phase)

mumtoblaire · 03/10/2012 12:56

Breakfast was 2 slice of cheese and 2 slice of ham with some olive oil
Lunch was 2 turkey rashers, 2 hotdogs, some lettuce, cucumber, 1 slice of cheese and some mayo.

Gotten through 2 litres water so far.

My trousers are much more comfortable this morning. Considering I was having coco pops with milk for breakfast, usually 3 or 4 slice of gluten free bread with various fillings (fried eggs, baked beans, crisps) and for dinner a massive amount of pasta or rice sometimes with a baked potato and jars of sauce, I could go days without eating any real protein. Shock

I haven't had any alcohol since Saturday night - I can easily get through 12 cans of cider a weekBlush

My main concern is calcium, I am supposed to be getting double what someone without Coeliac disease has.

What's the best low carb high calcium veg?

Anyone know?

BigStickBIWI · 03/10/2012 13:06

dotty2 I can't find very much, but this might help

Key message seems to be be - eat before you go, stay hydrated and take your time when you're finished/before you leave.

BigStickBIWI · 03/10/2012 13:09

Sources of calcium (beyond dairy) that are suitable for Bootcamp:

broccoli, curly kale, okra, spinach, watercress
mackerel, oysters, pilchards, salmon, sardines
sesame seeds
tofu
calcium-enriched soya cheeses and milks (you will need to check the carb counts of these)

And after the first two weeks of Bootcamp:

almonds, brazil nuts, hazelnuts

BigStickBIWI · 03/10/2012 13:11

mumtoblaire - just keep an eye on the amount of processed foods you're eating - turkey rashers, ham and hotdogs means there is potentially a lot of artificial stuff there.

caramelwaffle · 03/10/2012 13:27

Waitrose, you say? Excellent. I have two near me, thanks.

JessicaWakefield · 03/10/2012 13:40

Both DCs are napping - bliss! Have just had lunch; three chicken drumsticks with baby leaf salad, vinaigrette dressing and sprinkled with feta (how great is this woe?!). Picked up a takeaway espresso from fabulous local bakery this morning and the man preparing it went crazy for 6mo DS saying how beautiful he is (think in a Goodfellas Italian effusive way). He then proceeded to tell me what a great job I'm doing as a mum and gave me a free massive biscuit to go with my coffee. Pre-low carb this sort of stranger (albeit very generous) sabotage never happened! I need a medal, I thanked him, put it in my handbag and gave it away at DS music class. Quite good I reckon!

Jacaqueen · 03/10/2012 13:51

I love Delouis mayo too.

Unfortunately it is difficult to get round here.

The Maille mayo with a hint of mustard is nice too and has 1.2g of carbs per 100g

WillieWaggledagger · 03/10/2012 13:51

bravo jess!

i do very very occasionally have a sort of MiM (we don't have a microwave so i fry the mixture in butter like a sort of thick pancake) if i really really have to give into a major craving for something with a baked sort of texture, but i wouldn't have them on bootcamp and they do stall weight loss for me

OP posts:
WillieWaggledagger · 03/10/2012 13:52

i wonder whether there's a large low-carbing contingent in your area jac Wink

OP posts:
caramelwaffle · 03/10/2012 13:55

What is MiM?

Well done Jess.

I am climbing up the walls for sugar.

JessicaWakefield · 03/10/2012 13:55

Thanks Willie! Can't say I'm not still thinking about it though - it was "a good bake" as MB and PH would say!
