Week 1 Weigh-In - Little Black Dress Low Carb Boot Camp

WillieWaggledagger · 30/09/2012 16:17

i know you're all dying to get started on the low carb boot camp, and for those who haven't done this before, here is the link to the spreadsheet where you should record your starting weight for Monday 1st October in column c next to your name. Please don't touch any other columns for now

weight is recorded in lbs, so if you have problems converting from kg or stones, FiddledeFat made a handy widget which can be found in the tab at the bottom labelled 'conversion'

if your name isn't on the spreadsheet then you can add yourself by adding a new line and dragging the formulae down from an adjacent row, or just ask me to add you and I will do so as soon as i can

good luck with the first week of bootcamp!

Having a funny day today - eating lots of eggs, salad, prawns, avocados etc (fried halloumi salad is yum!) but feeling really spacey, almost as if I'm not really here, and a little dizzy. Eating well, drinking lots of water, not sure what's going on... anyone else?

PrincessSparkle86 · 02/10/2012 11:39

butterlies probably carbflu?? You generally will feel a little out of sorts when you first start but eat plenty of fatty foods and drink lots as you are... If your hungry then eat something ( thats in the rules)

PrincessSparkle86 · 02/10/2012 11:40

Ps. I felt a bit dizzyfied yesterday but i carried on drinking and im fine today Grin

BigStickBIWI · 02/10/2012 11:44

butterflies - keep your salt intake up. Make sure you're eating plenty of (low carb) veg, and you should feel it pass after a couple of days.

cathyandclaire - check the carb count on the back of your passata pack/bottle, as the carb counts do vary.

Ilovemyteddy · 02/10/2012 11:46

StrangeGlue - here is a lovely mushroom and cheese recipe from the IPD Cookbook which should be more filling

1 large field mushroom
30g crumbly goat's cheese
1tbsp chopped walnuts
1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
1/2 tsp green peppercorns (I usually leave this out and just add a grind of black pepper instead)

Remove the stalk from the mushroom. Place the mushroom stalk side down onto a grill pan and brush with oil. Place under a hot grill for two minutes and turn over. Mix together the cheese, walnuts, parsley and peppercorns and spoon into the mushroom cap. Grill for three minutes until the top is golden brown.

I have been known to eat two of these but one with some salad makes a great lunch.

I've just realised that we aren't supposed to eat nuts on Bootcamp so you could leave these out and eat two nut-free mushrooms instead--

butterfliesinmytummy · 02/10/2012 11:48

Thanks Biwi. I am eating salt as I love salt and olive oil as a salad dressing, also adding it to scrambled eggs. Will bear it in mind.

Princess I think it is carb flu. Felt terrible on Sunday (my day 1) but better yesterday and thought it had passed... Not hungry at all...

DIYapprentice · 02/10/2012 12:01

Biwi - I only took one ibuprofen to see if it would do the trick, and it has. A trick my GP told me was that sometimes taking half doses of pain relief, twice as often, would keep the pain relief level at a more constant level in your body. Was very ready to take the 2nd if needed!

BigStickBIWI · 02/10/2012 12:09

Good! And glad that it did the job.

Doshusallie · 02/10/2012 12:16

Blimey this thread is flying. BIWI how on earth are you managing to work as well as monitor this thread and keep us all in line? Grin

STILL 9 3 THIS MORNING!! Angry even with carbs on Saturday night, this should have gone down by now. Am well and truly stuck, which is especially galling when I was static at 9 1 2 weeks ago.

Was so good yesterday, no g&t, no nuts.

B: 3 soft boiled eggs, decaf tea with lactose free milk, berocca.
1 litre of water so far.

BigStickBIWI · 02/10/2012 12:17

'cos I haven't got any work this week, Doshusallie! Next week will be a different matter, sadly. Or not sadly, if you take my bank account into account!

Keep on keeping on - you know ... Grin

StrangeGlue · 02/10/2012 12:17

The link to the Mayo just goes to the sainsbury website rather than a specific product.

Brekkie was small because I misestimated how much I'd need to feel full - it wasn't intentional.

Pleased about tuna result!

PrincessSparkle86 · 02/10/2012 12:18

What is this berocca you speak of? What does it do?

NotMostPeople · 02/10/2012 12:18

Scrambled egg on a bed of ham and grated cheese for breakfast.

A piece of dark chocolate 70% has just passed my lips, but I have been having a totally shitty morning and won't do it again.

Must remember the water.

StrangeGlue · 02/10/2012 12:19

Oooh thanks for mushroom reciepe!

BigStickBIWI · 02/10/2012 12:20

Princess - Berocca is a vitamin B/multivitamin.

dotty2 · 02/10/2012 12:24

Thank you for the lovely recipe ideas. Pakoras and bhajis use almonds though. Spicy prawns sounds good and will look at recipe thread to see if pander fritters are there when on computer not phone.

Did my run. It was horrible: my legs felt like lead but I know this will pass in time. I started a less strict version of low carb back in spring and had the same then. List some weight then fell off the wagon but am still not as carb-dependent as I was so hoping it will be easier this time. Great to have so much support too.Smile

EwanHoozami · 02/10/2012 12:29

PortiaPony celeriac chips are one of the joyful joys of low-carbing. this from BBC Good Food is a good recipe. You don't need the curry powder. You need to be quite patient, they look a bit insipid for ages but will go a gorgeous crispy brown.

For the pork, I usually fry the chops in butter then slosh in a dressing of red wine vinegar, dried sage, wholegrain mustard and a few zests of orange and fry for another minute or so. To be a proper glaze the dressing would need honey but that is Not Allowed Grin

GreenEyesAndHam · 02/10/2012 12:31

Hello all

Breakfasted on ham and chicken slices with smoked cheddar cheese this morning, and lunch will be... Dunno yet, see what's on offer in the staff canteen

BigStickBIWI · 02/10/2012 12:33

Belly pork for lunch for me - not sure what veg, but may have some mushrooms and leeks.

LittleFrieda · 02/10/2012 12:36

Thanks for tip re butternut squash. Will avoid.

Lunch: Green beans (al dente) tossed in butter and lemon juice with chorizo and grilled goat's cheese and a mega handful of chopped parsley.

pixiestix · 02/10/2012 12:39

Can anyone tell me when I can expect this fecking headache to go away? Sad

PrincessSparkle86 · 02/10/2012 12:44

BIWI I get serious jealousy pangs whenever i read you have eaten pork belly...i MUST get some when we do the shop tomorrow!!

I dont know what to have for lunch...i'm not really hungry! perhaps i'll just have the beef grillsteak i was going to have..but without the salad...good idea or bad?

WineGless · 02/10/2012 12:49

Hi all just checking on- exam finished. Glad it's over but won't have results for few weeks. Really don't feel confident this time but bugger all I can do now.

Lunch -tuna salad
D: spag Bol for everyone else with courgette pasta for me

Swimming lessons for DC tonight which s a battle with DS -cant wait

Jacaqueen · 02/10/2012 12:53

Scrambled eggs and mushrooms for lunch. Caved in and had a cup of tea with a dash of lacto milk. Feel so much better.

If you have a headache drink some water and take a pain killer. No point in feeling ghastly. It will pass in a few days.
