Week 1 Weigh-In - Little Black Dress Low Carb Boot Camp

WillieWaggledagger · 30/09/2012 16:17

i know you're all dying to get started on the low carb boot camp, and for those who haven't done this before, here is the link to the spreadsheet where you should record your starting weight for Monday 1st October in column c next to your name. Please don't touch any other columns for now

weight is recorded in lbs, so if you have problems converting from kg or stones, FiddledeFat made a handy widget which can be found in the tab at the bottom labelled 'conversion'

if your name isn't on the spreadsheet then you can add yourself by adding a new line and dragging the formulae down from an adjacent row, or just ask me to add you and I will do so as soon as i can

good luck with the first week of bootcamp!

Hope your exam went well, WineGless.

Pixie, try eating some salt - that might be contributing to the headache. Failing that, have a nice cuppa and some paracetamol and remember, This Too Shall Pass. It won't take long - I felt like shit for the first few mornings I low-carbed, but since then I've been fine.

B: Bacon, mushrooms and a tiny bit of DD's omelette. 2 cups tea with ff milk.

L: Chicken curry. 750ml bottle of water.

D: Will be beef stroganoff with some leftover roast beef. Luckily for me dairy doesn't stall me, as will be putting sour cream in it.

Poppy1234 · 02/10/2012 13:13

Day 2 and another small tub of Total Greek for breakfast, curried cauliflower and coconut soup for lunch with a couple of chunks of feta melted in. The soup is the easiest soup I've ever made and gorgeous. Am presuming coconut milk is ok?

Dinner will be salmon burgers www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/7712/superhealthy-salmon-burgers with buttered courgettes. BBCgoodfood calculates the carb content as 7g per serving - BigStickBIWI is that in the realms of acceptability?

Delighted the delouis mayo gets the thumbs up as it's my all time favourite.

The sports cap bottle is a great tip and I'm wolfing down the water today.

BigStickBIWI · 02/10/2012 13:16

That looks perfect, Poppy! Let us know what the burgers are like. They sound lovely.

noddyholder · 02/10/2012 13:16

Fried eggs for breakfast
Decaf coffee and tea spoon cream
Salad for lunch with grated cheese
Will be having bacon and mushrooms for dinner
Water galore
No nuts is that right? Sad

GreenEyesAndHam · 02/10/2012 13:16

Pixie I felt really bad for one day, and generally crap for about three.

Well lunch was quiche (left the crust) with salad leaves and boiled eggs.

Pork chops and low carb bubble n squeak/ rosti things for tea

TellMeLater · 02/10/2012 13:24

Had cream cheese pancakes for breakfast - buttered.

Went for a run.

Then had a horrible smear test and used all my willpower not to fall into a cake, bought a nice new lipstick instead.

Lunch was meant to be bacon & avocado salad - the avocado was over ripe so I substituted pine nuts - forgot pine nuts are not boot camp! Bugger.

teaandthorazine · 02/10/2012 13:37

Leftover Indian takeaway for lunch - om nom NOM.

Trout fillets with some kind of veg for dinner I think.

Don't know why the sports cap trick works for drinking water but it really does!

LittleFrieda · 02/10/2012 13:45

Does anyone know which coleslaw (bought) is lowest in carbs?

BigStickBIWI · 02/10/2012 13:58

Goodness - who knew that there were so many different types of coleslaw?!

From the Sainsbury's website alone:

Basics CS - 3.7g carbs per 100g
Taste the Difference CS - 4.8g carbs per 100g
Taste the Difference West Country Cheddar CS - 5.1g carbs per 100g
Deli Style CS - 5.4 g carbs per 100g
Jalapeno CS - 5.6g carbs per 100g
Be Good To Yourself - 6.2g carbs per 100g
Cheese CS - 6.5g carbs per 100g
Mango & Chilli CS - 7.2g carbs per 100g
Peanut Satay CS - 8.7g carbs per 100g

So Sainsbury's Basics it is! (Or make your own - then it will be additive-free)

noddyholder · 02/10/2012 14:18

I have always found sports cap best too. You can kind of shoot it down your throat doesn't seem such a chore!

Jacaqueen · 02/10/2012 14:24

I use a sports cap bottle when out and about, but find that a straw with room temp water, works well in the house. I love ice cold water normally but can only take small sips of that which is no good for getting through large amounts.

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney · 02/10/2012 14:26

Hi all,

Things are going ok, but I am so sleepy!! I am usually a late owl but was in bed by 10 last night and fell asleep with book on my face! I feel like I could do with a nap right now too (half an hour till school pick up, hmmmm)

GreenEyesAndHam · 02/10/2012 14:39

I just need a bottle, doesn't necessarily have to have a sports cap. I really struggle with glasses of water for some reason

LittleFrieda · 02/10/2012 14:43

BIWI - Wow thanks for that. Quite a range of carb counts.

Waitrose creamy deli coleslaw is 3.9g carbs per 100g

NotAgainAndAgain · 02/10/2012 14:45

Oh dear, 12 oz of latte (large that is) - 16 g carbs.
That's what part of my allowance gone?Shock And that was my attempt to cheat breakfast Confused

BigStickBIWI · 02/10/2012 14:47

Yep. Milk = very high carb.

We're not really dealing in allowances, as there's no counting involved, but I would stick to really low carb veg for your evening meal. Salad would be good.

NotAgainAndAgain · 02/10/2012 14:57

Thank you BIWI!
In terms of "better" or "equal" raw salad or cooked veg is preferred? I know no-no veg, but the "friendly" ones - I would imagine it would be not far? I am just so bore with salads Sad
Was watching Come and Dine, found Peperoncini Frittata which is French sort of omlette, so I I change red peppers for green ones - can be within and well light diversion from plain omlette?

NotAgainAndAgain · 02/10/2012 15:03

Pepperonchini Frittata (Italian Omlette)

4 tbsp olive oil
2 red green peppers, deseeded and sliced
200ml veg stock
1 onion, sliced
4 free range farm eggs
70g goat's cheese, crumbled
Handful of chopped parsley
Dressed salad to serve

Heat the oil in a frying pan and sauté the peppers until starting to soften. Add the stock and simmer for 20 minutes until the peppers are tender and the liquid has evaporated.

Once the liquid has evaporated turn up the heat and allow the peppers to char. Transfer to a bowl and set aside, then fry the onion until soft and set aside with the peppers.

Add the eggs, goat's cheese and herbs to the fried veg and whisk to combine. Season with salt and pepper.

Pour the mixture into the pan, shake evenly to spread then cook gently for 5 minutes. Get the grill going whilst it cooks, then finish the top of the frittata under the grill, cooking until golden.

Allow to stand in the pan for 5 minutes, then turn out and allow to cool. Slice and serve with dressed salad and bread.

Any good for the cause?

PrincessSparkle86 · 02/10/2012 15:11

If you dont have a sports bottle how about a straw? Thats what ive been using to help with the drink... Works for me!!

halfthesize · 02/10/2012 15:14

Keeping fingers crossed for you WineGless

I have no energy today, though may have something to do with DS2 being up through the night, also living in a building site at the moment whilst family bathroom being re done!!

NotAgain that omelette sounds lovely x

NigellasGuest · 02/10/2012 15:22

notagain I would substitute the onion for shallot/s (onions are relatively carby and shallots are not so much).

and fry in butter, not olive oil. Olive oil is good when it's drizzled (or poured)! over things without heating it. But something happens when it's heated that isn't so good. (don't ask me what! someone will know).

NigellasGuest · 02/10/2012 15:22

i should add.... apart from that, the recipe looks yummy!

Doshusallie · 02/10/2012 15:25

Lunch: slice of roast beef, boiled egg, lots of salad, cucumber, tuna, mayo, roasted veg, chunk of cheese.

Another decaf coffee with splash of semi skimmed (all that the office fridge have - tempted to bring some cream in)

Another litre of water so that's my two for the day.

WillieWaggledagger · 02/10/2012 15:26

looks tasty notagain - i might cut down the onion a bit (or substitute shallot/leek/spring onion (are spring onions ok??)). you could pop it on the recipe thread?

hope exam went ok winegless

tellme was it a particularly horrible smear or just a regular horrible one? either way hope you feel better
