We've nearly grown out of the last thread here so i started the new one.

We're all doing different things but we're all here to support each other on the journey. We kick each other when we need it and offer sympathy when that's more appropriate.

Tortoise, i think it's def more about changing habits than dieting. I know she was a crank, but i loved those gillian mckeith programs. She was all about eating whatever you want and as much as you want as long as it's healthy food. I got out of the habit of drinking pop and white bread through her advice and have never drunk pop since. I think it was good coz you could think to yourself, i can eat as much as i want so it didn't feel like dieting. If you try and restrict your food too much, it's really hard to diet. I'm really struggling with calorie counting. So for a while i
M just eating healthy and recording weight on mfp. You're not alone on here x

TheHumancatapult · 16/10/2012 08:46

Tortoise

It takes time and I'm going to be honest it's flaming boring . I just tend to eat the same stuff over and over because to much hassle to think of other food to cook and eat . Which is hard as I love my food !! I been doing since mid June

Youcan

I know I will be the same and that I will always need to watch what I eat as I enjoy food including high calorie stuff . Once hit goal weight am planning that 4 days eat what I like ( within reason ) and 3 days when need be stricter And if I go above 7lbs over goal them will try make self hop back on the diet

TheHumancatapult · 16/10/2012 08:47

Also write down everything you ate eating /drinking and mean everything then look over it see where you may be over eating and is it linked to anything ( bad news , crabby kids /tired etc) mine is worse when I'm tired

dancinginthemoonlight · 16/10/2012 08:48

11St 4 so 5 on! :-(

TheHumancatapult · 16/10/2012 09:03

Dancing I did same when went away for weekend took me over 2 weeks to limit the damage I did and get back to where I was

But don't let a bad day /week put you of turn into bad month or bad 2 months

Does not matter how many times we fall it's how many times get back up

Taken me over 8/9 years to finally get it and understand connection with food and my emotions .

But even I have off days and feeling decidedly off today am desperate to get under 15 . See 14 on a scale but this week they are stuck I swear but also aware won't be a good week as my birthday and my mums so won't be sticking tj it

ICBINEG · 16/10/2012 09:40

Hey all, some of the things you are saying are so very familiar. Particularly about curling up in a ball and sleeping.

I too find the calorie counting so very very boring and depressing. I think I have taken roughly the same approach as human in that I counted for a couple of weeks so I knew what 1200 cals a day looked like and now I am pretty much just eating the same stuff each week.

Maybe it would be worth packing in a day of misery and sorting 14 days worth of tasty food under your calorie budget and then just repeating....I think I will be doing this again soon as I'm getting sick of some things!

TheHumancatapult · 16/10/2012 10:40

Yeah , turkey , Chicken and tuna will be on my shit list once this diet finshed . Especially without sauces etc

Youcanringmybell · 16/10/2012 12:24

Ooh human lets do a shit list!!!

Mine is ALL weight watchers meals...fucking porridge made with skimmed milk and water - bluergh

I still feel happy that I started this thread - I am still 9lbs down and hopefully in ten weeks time about 20 lbs down. Then if I do the same again after xmas I will be very very happy indeed.

TheHumancatapult · 16/10/2012 13:06

Yup long term goals none of us ladies are doing quick fix it's changing how we eat

Oh and can I add philli light to the shit list to . I miss real cheese

TheHumancatapult · 16/10/2012 13:08

But did realise yesterday that I'm nearer to my goal weight than am to my start weight only just and a lot to go . But slowly it's going

But am going enjoy both treat days this week and if gain then so be it will get back on it after

JohnnyDeppsfuturewife · 16/10/2012 13:22

Hi tortoise hope you're having a better day. It is hard and I can't remember if it was human or youcan who said that we are bingers and are always going to have to be careful with food.

I have always (generally) eaten healthily so portion control was always one of my goals. diet food doesn't have to be dull (although I know what you mean about chicken, turkey and tuna).

I have been obsessing about food so much in the last month that I have been looking for new things to cook

  • last night a 4oz fillet steak (expensive treat but only 155 calories for 100g) with 2 tablespoons of a ready made pepper sauce and lots of veg - for under 300 cals.
  • hairy bikers lamb curry
  • minestrone and lentil soups (I added two rashers of bacon with the fat cut off, it adds amazing flavour but not that many calories). I froze the rest of the bacon packet to stop me having a fry up.
  • gammon (using hairy bikers recipe)

I don't want to sound smug just to explain that this is what's keeping me sane. It is a pain that I sometimes have to cook different foods to the kids but then last night my steak only took about 12 minutes. I'm also looking at slow cookers for soups and casseroles as apparently you just throw the ingredients in and it's really easy. Is this true? Does anyone else have a slow cooker?

ICBINEG · 16/10/2012 13:33

ohhh....I really miss eating lamb and beef...but my DH doesn't like them and the baby seems to find them too tough.

tiggy114 · 16/10/2012 13:48

We LOVE the slow cooker. Espec this time of year. Pure stewy comfort food goodness. You can put really cheap cuts of meat in and they come out so yum and tender.

TheHumancatapult · 16/10/2012 14:38

Oh yes I'm another one slow cookers are fab put w chicken in and so tender but yup to to cheap cuts

I'm planning bit of steak for Xmas day now reading that

JohnnyDeppsfuturewife · 16/10/2012 15:15

Gah, just ate four custard creams, and I was being so bloody good. Might have to bin the rest of the packet.

Youcanringmybell · 16/10/2012 15:43

My slow cooker broke...Sad

I won't buy another yet as will not use it allt he time my husband is away - casseroles will KILL my children (apprently Hmm) and they genuinely destest vegetables. I manage to disguise veg in other things though.

I am dreaming of a slow cooke chiken and vegetable curry...mmm I will have a curry next week I think - and make it last by freezing portions. Yummy.

I am also adding fat free yoghurt to the SHIT LIST - it is sickly sweet and unsatisfying in every way.

JohnnyDeppsfuturewife · 16/10/2012 18:36

My shitlist is low cal salad dressing. I haven't found one I like as much as a fatty Caesar one or home made one with olive oil. Have experimented with a yogurt one which is ok on some salads and balsamic vinegar which I think is really overrated.

Youcanringmybell · 16/10/2012 19:01

I love balsmic but not on salad. I have been toasting wholemeal bread, dicing toms and garlic and making a bruschetta thing. Tis yum!!

Tortoise · 16/10/2012 19:05

So so day today. Could do better!

I've got a huge slow cooker but so far struggling to find good recipes to make in it other than sausage hotpot and chicken curry. It's hardly been used!

I have a pair of size 18 jeans coming from Ebay. I'm really hoping they fit but if not will hopefully motivate me to try harder!

JohnnyDeppsfuturewife · 16/10/2012 19:17

Mmm, bruschetta, that sounds amazing. Might try it for breakfast as I find that the hardest meal of the day. Hate porridge so I often just have a piece of toast with marmite.

I hope the jeans fit tortoise it is very motivating when that happens.

Goonatic · 16/10/2012 19:51

Ooooh am starving! Was very good today, yoghurt, pear, soup, dates and spaghetti hoops on toast with bit of grated cheese. A craving a chocolate biscuit so much!!!!!!!!!
SOMEONE STOP ME!

Youcanringmybell · 16/10/2012 20:03

You have enough cals for a biscuit so have one if you want one. Moderation Goon!! Smile

Goonatic · 16/10/2012 20:07

Ooh really!! Might go and have a hot choc sachet thing instead! You feeling better?

Youcanringmybell · 16/10/2012 21:23

Yes feeling better today thank you! Just watched bake off and had a few jammy dodgers...The girls night in got cancelled so had it had gone ahead I would have been far worse!! A win win I feel Wink

Hope you enjoyed your hot choc!

ICBINEG · 17/10/2012 09:10

Okay if anyone is feeling peckish today, can I recommend watching Nigelissima....the bit where she stews up some evil looking liquorice lozenges in water, dumps in cream and sugar and cornflour...pours into a shot glass and then eats with rock salt sprinkled over each mouthful?

it has put me off food altogether....I just can't get it out of my head....she is just sick man....sick....
