Lots of people have already said they're up for this, so come and sign in on this thread, so we know who we all are! The wonderful WilleWaggleDagger has taken over the job of Spreadsheet Management, and you may find that your name is already on the Spreadsheet of Wonderfulness:

link to the spreadsheet

You will also find the rules and some important info about allowed veg on the tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet.

But to give you a brief summary of things:

We start on Monday, with two strict weeks of low carbing. It's important that you are strict about it, to get your body used to it and for maximum weight loss. We are also, in these two weeks, getting our bodies to switch from burning carbohydrates to burning fat - which means you will become ketogenically adapted.

There are only 10 rules to follow, and the idea behind these is to keep Bootcamp as simple as possible. There is no need to count carbs or weigh your food (unless you particularly want to). In summary, these are:

  1. Eat three, proper meals a day
  1. Avoid processed food
  1. Eat lots of fat
  1. Make sure you are eating vegetables and salads with your food
  1. Be careful about dairy (apart from butter, which is unlimited)
  1. You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day
  1. No alcohol (Sorry - I did say it was strict!)
  1. No fruit
  1. No nuts/seeds
  1. No sugar or artificial sweeteners

Here are the rules, with the reasons/explanations as well

One of the most important things about low carbing is preparation.

This is not an easy diet to follow if you leave you food choices until you're starving, or if you are out and about. You will quickly find that the world of on-the-go food and snacks is all about the carbohydrates! Think about what you're going to cook next week, and plan your food choices and shopping accordingly. There is no need to cook anything different for you from that which your family will be eating, although carbohydrate-centred meals (e.g. lasagne or risotto) are obviously out of the question. Focus on meals that are based around meat/fish and vegetables/salad - your family can always have potatoes with theirs, or some other form of carb.

If you're out and about, buying low carb food can be difficult. However, places like M&S Food are getting better - you can buy pre-packed cheese in individual portions, or packets of ham/chicken/prawns, for example. Olives make a great snack, and they are very low in carbs.

It's really helpful to know something about the thinking/science behind low carbing

If you can, try and do some reading up about it. Good books are:

Dr Atkins "The New Diet Revolution"
Dr Charles Clark "The New High Protein Diet"
India Knight/Neris Thomas "The Idiot Proof Diet" (there is also an IPD recipe book, which has some great recipes in it)
Dr John Briffa "Escape the Diet Trap"
Gary Taubes "The Diet Delusion"/"Why We Get Fat"

There's loads of information online, and this site is really useful

.... and obviously there will the LBD threads. We will have one weigh-in thread, and I will start a week-by-week chat thread.

No need to thicken them - just reduce the sauce till it's the consistency that you need.

WillieWaggledagger · 30/09/2012 15:12

Well done dosh I'm so impressed with your 2/3 triathlon

Doshusallie · 30/09/2012 15:18

Am i posting on the right thread?

Soooooooooo tired. Got about 3 hours sleep, if that, last night in the tent, by god it was cold. We were home by 10am this morning. Have unpacked but that's about it. Still feel cold.

After my mountain of potato last night my innards are bunged up, swollen and I am very gassy. Which has made me realise that I have had next to no wind for months on this woe.

Breakfast was 2 boiled eggs, a sausage and 2 babybels.
Lunch was salad with celery and olives, with chopped up egg and more sausages.

I have had 2 teaspoons of peanut butter.
I have had a coffee with cream and 3 cups of tea (trying to warm up!) and a berocca.
I have drunk 3 litres of water already today.

We have watched last nights "X", and One Day so far....

Doshusallie · 30/09/2012 15:19

And thanks all very much for your good wishes and encouragement!!!!! Grin

BigStickBIWI · 30/09/2012 16:13

You did brilliantly!

WillieWaggledagger · 30/09/2012 16:19

here is the weigh-in thread, ready for tomorrow though i know a few are weighing in earlier

good luck everyone!

BigStickBIWI · 30/09/2012 16:20

Great - thanks very much Willie! Now the only problem is that I will have to weigh in tomorrow ...

WineGless · 30/09/2012 17:52

Am also dreading the weigh in but got to start somewhere to stop the rot setting in.

Feeling very fed up and have eaten three, yes three biscuits. I I didn't even taste the fecking things just inhaled them Sad

cathyandclaire · 30/09/2012 18:08

Join the club WineGless! I'm thinking of today as a carb challenge to shock my body into losing loads of fat on Bootcamp next week!!!! Grin

sybilfaulty · 30/09/2012 19:24

Look, girls, I don't think tomorrow's weigh in will be great for loads of us, but this is as bad as it gets! In a few weeks time, after BIWI has been at us with her stick, we will be on the road to being GORGEOUS! We can do this my lovelies. Courage and faith.

WineG, I heard about the memorial service today and thought about you. Hope you and your colleagues are as OK as you can be.

Have a quiet evening

WineGless · 30/09/2012 19:27

Syb thanks, was thinking of them all at 3pm.

Funerals on wed and thurs, not sure if going yet due to work commitments. Only certain number can go and I went to vigil and march last tues so will give others opportunity to go.

Am stressing about exam on tues and then it all comes flooding back and I get it into perspective

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 30/09/2012 19:29

hello everyone. I am all set for re booting tomorrow. Have I mentioned the end November girls holiday with my slinky malinky friends?

I will be on the ball again from tomorrow, have tried yesterday and today to ease myself in and I know that by Friday next week I will feel so much better. At the moment I have little energy, want to sleep a lot and have a general 'cant be arsed' to do much! I am blaming carbs/sugar and am ready to get cracking again.

hope everyone is well and raring to get into those lovely dresses for the coming season. Grin

sybilfaulty · 30/09/2012 19:34

Does Bootcamp have an end date, by which we will measure our progress?>

JAx, I haven't lost lots of weight so far, but lots of inches! I also weigh a lot for how I look, so prefer to see which dress I can get into rather than how many stones I weigh.

So much yummy food! Can't wait! X

WillieWaggledagger · 30/09/2012 19:46

Winegless take care of yourself

Syb I've put 10th December as that's ten weeks but it can be longer/shorter if people want

WillieWaggledagger · 30/09/2012 19:47

I meant ten weeks are on the spreadsheet

WineGless · 30/09/2012 20:03

10 weeks is a good number. I am hoping to have 10lbs off by then

Jax I know what you mean about energy levels etc
This time of year is hard anyway especially when clocks change so if I am properly LC hopefully energy levels will be better

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 30/09/2012 20:39

10 weeks sounds good. I am going to take a lot of measurements tomorrow morning as well - eek! Today hasn't been too carby, apart from a bit too much dark choc with raspberries/ginger and orange. Oh, and the Crabbie's alcoholic ginger beer, but it needed to be drunk before Bootcamp starts.

WineGless · 30/09/2012 20:45

That's what I'm doing too, finishing off red wine gin, vodka and anything else I can lay my hands on
Bit like pancake day before Lent!!

CobOnTheCorn · 30/09/2012 20:48

I'm in!

I have been eating low carb since about Fen I think and never want to go back to bread, pasta etc but I still suffer with sweet cravings and the 'just one' square of dark chocolate has got way out of hand.

I need help!

What shall I nibble on when I want to eat chocolate? There must be something that can distract me until the feeling passes.

Has anyone else who suffers with sweet cravings read The Diet Cure by Julia Ross? It's certainly a very convincing read, when she describes feelings and behaviours exhibited by people who have various cravings I almost looked over my shoulder to see if she was watching me, it felt that personal.

Anyway, the bootcamp threads have been really helpful but I haven;t been that good at posting so I'm going to try and post every day to check in and ask for help when the sweet cravings get too much.

I've also got into a bit of a rut with regards to the food I'm eating so I'm looking forward to reading what everyone else is eating.

I've just cooked a whole batch of lamb mince with onions, garlic, tomato puree cinamon and fresh mint so that I can make lots of low carb moussaka over the next month.

OliviaPeaceAndLoveMumsnet · 30/09/2012 21:36

ooh on the same thread as JessicaWakefield - I loved those booksGrin
BIWI
I am all set for breakfast tomorrow
HAve had lots of chocolate today and rice at dinner and mega uber carb fest on Friday at the Towers. (croissants a-gogo) and am READY.

Bring on the weight loss is what I say!

MmeLindor · 30/09/2012 21:38

Eating the last of the Minstrels, and polishing off the red wine in preparation for tomorrow.

MmeLindor · 30/09/2012 21:40

Btw, I was shopping recently and wondered why none of the big supermarkets have started doing more low-carb food.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 30/09/2012 21:40

Love the way we are all carb loading Grin

I am ready too.

MegTheCat · 30/09/2012 21:42

I'm in. (A bit last minute.) I've been low carbing for a couple of months now. Lost half a stone initially then had a carby week and its taken me ages to start losing again. Looking forward to bootcamp. My big weakness under normal circumstances is sweet stuff - cravings and all. But now i've got used to going without, that's not so bad. My main challenges are going to be processed food and dairy. Ive cut down to 2 coffees a day with cream so will stick to that.
Will go find spreadsheet now.

GreenEyesAndHam · 30/09/2012 21:44

I'm hoping to lose another half stone before Christmas. I'm tempted to take some photos this time.

I was going to take weekly photos along with my measurements when I first started low carbing back in April. But I chickened out Grin

I went from a size 14 to an 8 so now I wish I had! I have a few taken not long before but I'd got quite adept at dodging the camera so they only show my fat face.
