Lots of people have already said they're up for this, so come and sign in on this thread, so we know who we all are! The wonderful WilleWaggleDagger has taken over the job of Spreadsheet Management, and you may find that your name is already on the Spreadsheet of Wonderfulness:

link to the spreadsheet

You will also find the rules and some important info about allowed veg on the tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet.

But to give you a brief summary of things:

We start on Monday, with two strict weeks of low carbing. It's important that you are strict about it, to get your body used to it and for maximum weight loss. We are also, in these two weeks, getting our bodies to switch from burning carbohydrates to burning fat - which means you will become ketogenically adapted.

There are only 10 rules to follow, and the idea behind these is to keep Bootcamp as simple as possible. There is no need to count carbs or weigh your food (unless you particularly want to). In summary, these are:

  1. Eat three, proper meals a day

  1. Avoid processed food

  1. Eat lots of fat

  1. Make sure you are eating vegetables and salads with your food

  1. Be careful about dairy (apart from butter, which is unlimited)

  1. You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day

  1. No alcohol (Sorry - I did say it was strict!)

  1. No fruit

  1. No nuts/seeds

10. No sugar or artificial sweeteners

Here are the rules, with the reasons/explanations as well

One of the most important things about low carbing is preparation.

This is not an easy diet to follow if you leave you food choices until you're starving, or if you are out and about. You will quickly find that the world of on-the-go food and snacks is all about the carbohydrates! Think about what you're going to cook next week, and plan your food choices and shopping accordingly. There is no need to cook anything different for you from that which your family will be eating, although carbohydrate-centred meals (e.g. lasagne or risotto) are obviously out of the question. Focus on meals that are based around meat/fish and vegetables/salad - your family can always have potatoes with theirs, or some other form of carb.

If you're out and about, buying low carb food can be difficult. However, places like M&S Food are getting better - you can buy pre-packed cheese in individual portions, or packets of ham/chicken/prawns, for example. Olives make a great snack, and they are very low in carbs.

It's really helpful to know something about the thinking/science behind low carbing

If you can, try and do some reading up about it. Good books are:

Dr Atkins "The New Diet Revolution"
Dr Charles Clark "The New High Protein Diet"
India Knight/Neris Thomas "The Idiot Proof Diet" (there is also an IPD recipe book, which has some great recipes in it)
Dr John Briffa "Escape the Diet Trap"
Gary Taubes "The Diet Delusion"/"Why We Get Fat"

There's loads of information online, and this site is really useful

.... and obviously there will the LBD threads. We will have one weigh-in thread, and I will start a week-by-week chat thread.

Williewaggledagger am scared of the spreadsheet! Don't want to mess it up! Do I just add my name to the bottom or do I slot myself in alphabetical order ( I'm sure you have an automatic sort thingy but I thought I'd check..!) Thanks..

Just found coconut oil - in Waitrose. You weren't kidding about the cost BIWI - £6.99 for less than 300ml!
Still, will do my roast veg in it tonight and see if i can taste the difference.

Do you mind if I join in please? - horrified at recent 32% body fat reading and just can't do low fat/high carb.

I've managed a low carb day today so will try to carry on until Monday weigh in.

I need to be slimmer by Xmas, but am going on hols on 10th Oct (thankfully not a bikini-based trip) and would love to be a bit slimmer by then.

Wine is my problem, I used to work in the evenings so was pretty much teetotal for a year or so and easily maintained a svelte size 6/8. Not a huge boozehound now, but usually have a couple of small glasses of wine most evenings which will have to go

If you really can't give up alcohol who am I kidding here - that's all of us, isn't it?!, then try and drink a spirit + soda. Spirits are zero carbs and there are no artificial nasties in soda (or sparkling mineral water). India and Neris (the Idiot Proof Diet) recommend vodka and soda; I like gold rum with soda and a slice of lime. But try and reserve it for the weekend only, and keep it to only one or two!

.... but not all spirits; things like Malibu are sweetened. Pure spirits like gin/rum, etc are fine.

Thanks for that BIWI...I've actually decided to go cold turkey for the first two weeks at least. I'm feeling sluggish in the mornings which is making me crave carbs and making me less likely to do any exercise. Also, my willpower tends to slip after a drink!

Once we are out of the first two weeks, I will probably reintroduce some vodka/soda but I think in the initial phase, probably best to just avoid.

I'm also going to stop drinking my massive buckets of tea with skimmed milk and about 5 sweeteners. I'm going to miss them, but for 2 weeks I'm sure I can cope and then think about it again at that point.

I have a feeling that at the end of the two weeks I will not want to re-introduce them (wine or tea) but just thinking about the initial phase seems a lot less daunting that giving them up forever!

That's very true - and there is no doubt that you will lose more weight if you keep away from the alcohol.

I am going to stop eating as much processed food. I was very good to start with, but now stuff things like pepperami as snacks, which can't be very good for me.

Am having a lovely glass of cava as I write. oops.

So looking forward to Monday it is ridiculous.

I did really well first time around and lost 26 lbs. However over the past couple of months I have continually lost and regained the same few pounds. I have not really stopped low carbing but I am obviously not going low enough.

This time around I am going to give up milk, cream and cheese for the first two weeks. I am also going to try really really hard not to drink alcohol. I am hoping that a really strict couple of weeks will get the weight loss moving again.

ok i think i've added everyone so far...

anyone can add themselves, doesn't matter if alphabetical order as it can be sorted, just insert a line and drag the formulae from the row above or below. if you're not sure don't worry because i can add you

on monday, weigh-ins should go in column c

thanks for correcting the widget mrshp - i must have deleted the formula accidentally!

I'm in too. Can't wait either. I'm on holiday at the moment, staying with family and not in control of my meals. This week has really highlighted how much more nutritious the low carb way of eating is. I can't wait to get home for some real food! Sick of empty carbs!

Willie would you add me please? I don't think I can do it on my phone.

I'm in and same as Sybil I need to cut down on processed food and alcohol.
I won't have any in the week on Bootcamp and try and limit the vodka at the weekend. I am on no alcohol November so hoping that will help the weight loss.

For all the newbies there are low carb recipes on the recipe page on the Mumsnet via links at the top or on the recipe thread here

Olivia you've changed your name again- I sent you a Pm. There's a rogue recipe on the LC section. Banoffee pie.
Now I know you are leaving it there in the hopes it is on the allowed list- but it isn't.
