Lots of people have already said they're up for this, so come and sign in on this thread, so we know who we all are! The wonderful WilleWaggleDagger has taken over the job of Spreadsheet Management, and you may find that your name is already on the Spreadsheet of Wonderfulness:

link to the spreadsheet

You will also find the rules and some important info about allowed veg on the tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet.

But to give you a brief summary of things:

We start on Monday, with two strict weeks of low carbing. It's important that you are strict about it, to get your body used to it and for maximum weight loss. We are also, in these two weeks, getting our bodies to switch from burning carbohydrates to burning fat - which means you will become ketogenically adapted.

There are only 10 rules to follow, and the idea behind these is to keep Bootcamp as simple as possible. There is no need to count carbs or weigh your food (unless you particularly want to). In summary, these are:

  1. Eat three, proper meals a day
  1. Avoid processed food
  1. Eat lots of fat
  1. Make sure you are eating vegetables and salads with your food
  1. Be careful about dairy (apart from butter, which is unlimited)
  1. You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day
  1. No alcohol (Sorry - I did say it was strict!)
  1. No fruit
  1. No nuts/seeds
  1. No sugar or artificial sweeteners

Here are the rules, with the reasons/explanations as well

One of the most important things about low carbing is preparation.

This is not an easy diet to follow if you leave you food choices until you're starving, or if you are out and about. You will quickly find that the world of on-the-go food and snacks is all about the carbohydrates! Think about what you're going to cook next week, and plan your food choices and shopping accordingly. There is no need to cook anything different for you from that which your family will be eating, although carbohydrate-centred meals (e.g. lasagne or risotto) are obviously out of the question. Focus on meals that are based around meat/fish and vegetables/salad - your family can always have potatoes with theirs, or some other form of carb.

If you're out and about, buying low carb food can be difficult. However, places like M&S Food are getting better - you can buy pre-packed cheese in individual portions, or packets of ham/chicken/prawns, for example. Olives make a great snack, and they are very low in carbs.

It's really helpful to know something about the thinking/science behind low carbing

If you can, try and do some reading up about it. Good books are:

Dr Atkins "The New Diet Revolution"
Dr Charles Clark "The New High Protein Diet"
India Knight/Neris Thomas "The Idiot Proof Diet" (there is also an IPD recipe book, which has some great recipes in it)
Dr John Briffa "Escape the Diet Trap"
Gary Taubes "The Diet Delusion"/"Why We Get Fat"

There's loads of information online, and this site is really useful

.... and obviously there will the LBD threads. We will have one weigh-in thread, and I will start a week-by-week chat thread.

BIWI have a fab time tonight- defo up for Bootcamp meet up depending on my shifts

Livelongandprosper · 29/09/2012 16:41

NewStart and others large of nork - I have come down by 5 cup sizes, I was on the verge of asking GP for a reduction but they are more manageable now and the more I lose, the closer they get to being a reasonable size.

MrsHerculePoirot · 29/09/2012 17:21

'large of nork'. Best MN Phrase Ever Grin

captainmummy · 29/09/2012 18:24

Re the measuring of yourself by clothes - i have a lovely, handmade 50's style dress, full of skirt but tight of bodice, that I couldnot get into, in the summer. Just couldnt get the zip up. Tried this morning and it does up! (bit tight) but it does up!

Great motivator.

Few more pounds then.

Shagmundfreud · 29/09/2012 19:42

I bought a beeeeooootiful, immaculate Jaegar shift dress (red!) in the local charity shop a few months ago. Size 10.

I WILL get into that dress by Christmas. . Without having to compress my muffin top with spanx.

(Currently size 14, so a lot of work to be done. Am tidying and decluttering frantically all day at the moment as a 'stay active, never sit down, burn those bloody calories off' strategy. Now not only is my stomach flatter, but my house has never been tidier!)

ABitWoozy · 29/09/2012 21:05

Hi can someone put me on there as well please?

I started the IPD on Sept 1st (206lb) and am currently 193lb. Good results so far but am cheating like hell tonight thinking I should start anew Grin

Doshusallie · 29/09/2012 21:19

Was 10th out of the water out of about 60 men and women and the 2nd woman out. Did the run faster than at the gym although did find the run very hard.

Am now sitting round the camp fire with about 18 layers on, after about 5 g&ts. Have eaten lots of chips, bananas, and god know what today but fuck it, worst wagon fall for months, I must be due one.

Bring in bootcamp.

Hope I don't need the loo in the night.....

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 29/09/2012 21:54

God, am going to be at PIL for a week mid-October. I wonder if I can Shred in the bedroom with the door locked? They're moving house so I don't know how big the rooms are yet. Last time they tried to accommodate low-carb but did things like make so-called celeriac mash and announce halfway through dinner that the mash was half potato with celeriac mixed in. Not their fault, but just an extra hurdle to deal with. This is going to require some thought.

MrsHerculePoirot · 29/09/2012 22:03

Well done dosh that's brilliant - well done!!!

JessicaWakefield · 29/09/2012 22:08

Hi BIWI, please can I join and at the same time give you and the other bootcamp posters a big bunch of Thanks. I have been following your threads since I started low carbing in May and have found the advice as well as the camaraderie between you all really inspirational. I began this way of eating to loose the last ten pounds of baby weight and went from 9 stone 10 to 9 stone (my pre pregnancy weight) in a month very much motivated by the bootcamp threads - I'm aiming for 8 stone 10 so hopefully LBD will be the final push that I need.

motherofluvlies · 29/09/2012 22:13

Oops I tried to add to the spreadsheet .sorry for messing up the system.tx in advance for fixing.

WineGless · 29/09/2012 22:17

Hey dosh/Bloss that's brilliant!! Well done you and I think you are allowed a blow out after that

Jessica have you been lurking all this time?? Well fine on your weight loss, that's brilliant. Here's to getting you down to your target weight for Xmas

Motherofluvlies - hopefully wiggle will be along with her magic wand yo fix the spreadsheet of loveliness (am not v technical but sure it's not broken )

frumpet · 29/09/2012 22:25

can you sign me in please , curent weight 230llbs Sad , would like to be about 2 stone lighter for christmas . If one more person asks me when its due , i will have to offically get pregnant ........

JessicaWakefield · 29/09/2012 22:45

Thanks Wine! Honestly couldn't have done it without you all!

NewStartSameStory · 29/09/2012 22:51

Livelong - that is the biggest motivator for me atm. The norks need to shrink. Was going to book in and discuss action this week so that is the best news and I will leave it and try this route first.

WillieWaggledagger · 29/09/2012 23:40

have only just got in, sorry

motherofluvlies i can't see that anything on the spreadsheet is broken so either you did nothing wrong or some kind person has fixed it!

i think i have added everyone to date, but please shout if you can't see yourself

lilyfire · 30/09/2012 10:32

Please could I be added? (am bit scared of messing up spreadsheet, if I try it myself). Am 156lbs. I would really like to be 9lbs lighter by Christmas.

GreenEyesAndHam · 30/09/2012 11:03

Well I might have had lasagne and garlic bread for lunch yesterday, and half a bottle of wine. And I might be having a few roast potatoes with my roast pork this afternoon. There may also be stuffing. Oh yes. And the rest of the wine.

But from tomorrow I am hardcore.

JessicaWakefield · 30/09/2012 11:57

Thank you very much for adding me to the spreadsheet Willie!

vnmum · 30/09/2012 13:29

dosh well done, that is great.

I have also had a major wagon fall this weekend. Will not say what i have eaten but it has definately been a weekend orgy of carb chugging Blush, don't even know why. The scales will not be kind in the morning but hey, bootcamp starts tomorrow so i can get beaten into shape Grin

motherofluvlies · 30/09/2012 13:49

I,m a little concerned about........Menu?
Well I had gallstone pain a fortnight ago and that is my third episode of it .I am going to go low carb but am going to try and avoid out and out cream....I know, but I,m scared of the pain.I can do this.i have figured that with cutting out all the rubbish chocolate, crisps ,home baking etc this will work with enough fat contained in the cooking ,dressings etc.
Just planning a menu for next week(cooking for 7) so some budget meals would be good so far

Indian rubbed lamb chops butternut pine nut rocket salad
Spring chicken( without peas etc)

Ideas?

butterfliesinmytummy · 30/09/2012 13:50

Omg started today and feeling rubbish with carb withdrawal. Its evening where I live (Asia) and I have eaten salami with salad for breakfast, crudités with egg mayo and pâté for lunch and tandoori chicken salad for dinner, snacked on a little cheddar and olives too, drunk one espresso and 3 litres of water. Done low carbing and detoxes before so the carb flu isn't new to me and just popped a couple of panadol. I know it will pass in a day or two and I'll feel better than ever but it makes you wonder what so much sugar has been doing to your system that it has this effect when you give it up.

Off to bed in a moment, can't wait to feel the benefits of bootcamp!

sybilfaulty · 30/09/2012 13:57

I have just had a fuck it moment, and eaten 2 small bars of G and B (the ones which come in a pack of 10, so small but not low carb.) My DD2 kept me up most of the night, just chatting, then my son started kicking me from about6. We are all underslept, overtired and a bit grumpy. Especially me. Bought a new DVD for the ingrates in ASDA this am so am thinking I might have to zzzz on the sofa while they watch.

This is the first time I have eaten emotionally (well, the wrong thing emotionally) in nearly 4 months. Result.

Hope you are all OK and excited for tomorrow.

motherofluvlies · 30/09/2012 13:59

How do you thicken casseroles etc without flour?
