Here is the new, shiny thread. Only three weeks or so to go until we swing into really strict mode!

Sorry, ladies, I completely didn't thank you for the pork belly tips! Bad form.

Thegoddessblossom · 14/09/2012 13:41

Lunch was: 2 boiled eggs, 2 slices of ham, lots of salad leaves, chunk of brie and lots of cucumber - and a big dollop of mayo. Quite restrained of me really I thought.

hazchem · 14/09/2012 15:08

Yes it's a permanent move. I'm an aussie. DH is English but we think we should have a good life there.

Well I've been very good all day except a packet of cashews ( big one!) I was hungry at about 11:30 and really just should have made lunch but instead ate the bag of nuts and cause it's filling but not really ended up eating lunch too.

I'm thinking we might get the Dino book when we get to australia. I more I eat like this the more concerned I am that DS eats a fair bit of grain. We will initially be staying with my parents and my mum is keen to try LC and my brother is gluten intolerant so there should be lots of good options for DS to eat. I want to raise him with out the crazy food issues I have. Just a healthy love of good food. Enjoy eating enjoy cooking enjoy sharing with people not shameful block of chocolate late at night while no one can see eating.

PrincessSparkle86 · 14/09/2012 16:28

Afternoon all Grin

haz congrats on the visa!

Weve been getting our ceilings plastered today, went for a takeaway but chose a kebab (just the meat and salad). I figured it was the most suitable takeaway option...

So breaky was missed.
Lunch was kebab
And i dont think ill have dinner :/

captainmummy · 14/09/2012 19:40

Hazchem - dead jealous. Would love to move to the other side of th world. Really. Even with the poisonous everything.

Had planned a 'carb' day today, meeting my friend and having Latte and free toasted teacake. Have really missed fruit, so also have a big fruit bowl ready, but after the teacake (which was yum) and 3 apples, i fell bloated and wonder what the heck the fuss is about. Feel terrible that even tho i've stayed under 1200 cals (per MFP) i've had eeeek 144g carbs. Thats the apples. Back to 'normal' tomorrow.

OrangeEyesDoMoreThanSee · 14/09/2012 20:46

Dare I ask where red cabbage comes in the bad carb stakes

BIWI · 14/09/2012 21:07

Red cabbage is OK, as far as I remember - hang on...

OP posts:
BIWI · 14/09/2012 21:09

According to weightlossresources.co.uk, red cabbage is 3.7g carbs per 100g, so it's pretty low carb!

Celebrated DH being home for a day and getting all the tax stuff sorted for the student finance people (finally!!!) with a really lovely and huge steak. Had it with garlic mushrooms, salad and two redcurrant vodka and sodas.

Fat and sleepy now. :)

OrangeEyesDoMoreThanSee · 14/09/2012 22:09

Ok. This was what I had for for dinner...

Lamb tagine and red cabbage stir fry. OMG.

Took some lamb offcuts, added three roughly chopped shallots, half pint fresh chicken stock and a glass of wine and simmered in a tagine for an hour. Utterly divine. The red cabbage we used half and sliced it very finely and then stir fried it on top of two rashers of bacon and a shallot.

We're still grinning it was so good. I did have a very small glass of red wine, and DH bought me a tiny bar of 90% chocolate of which I had half.

I have been asked to enter a charity cupcake competition next week, happy to join in but will be hard pewee to not eat a single mini cupcake!

BIWI · 15/09/2012 08:54

I finally went shopping yesterday so I have a fridge full of appropriate food. My diet hasn't been great over the last couple of days because I had no decent veg.

I've also realised that I've just made a social arrangement for the first day of LBD Bootcamp - which will involve meeting at the Champagne bar at St Pancras Blush

Do what I say, not do as I do, clearly Grin

OP posts:
Thegoddessblossom · 15/09/2012 09:06

well I accidentally had vodka, gin, white fizz and red wine last night and I feel like hell this morning. DS2 will not be having his swimming lesson this morning. Bad parent.

Really want some toast. Sad

teaandthorazine · 15/09/2012 10:41

I know it's bad and wrong and a bit pathetic but a crappy morning at work has had me succumbing already to a Viennese whirl. And I'm very tempted to have another one. think I'm coming down with something, scratchy throat, sore eyes (!) and aching neck. But am on my own at work all weekend and on call Monday so no chance of actually having time to be ill...

The cafe is open, am toying with the idea of a sausage sandwich. Feel very blah today tbh.

IWipeArses · 15/09/2012 11:18

Bacon, scrambled eggs, avocado, butter. Grin

I think I must have missed it, what day does official bootcamp start?

OrangeEyesDoMoreThanSee · 15/09/2012 11:49

I thought it was the 8th October when LBD bootcamp started Grin

I have a RL friend who is TTC and has been for quite a while, she had PCOS and has read that moving to a lower carb diet would help conception. She is however concerned as to whether the LC WOE can be continued if she falls pg.

I said I would ask the oracle BIWI

OrangeEyesDoMoreThanSee · 15/09/2012 11:55

Breakfast was a coffee with a babybel, lunch will be soup with another coffee, dinner tonight is a BBQ with salad. I'm doing a big roast tomorrow lunchtime and the hopefully (if I can get a slot) my first ever internet shop on Monday!

dollyxdaydreamer · 15/09/2012 13:05

Help.

I feel like giving up/in. I've been doing this for 12 days now, and after the initial water weight came off after day 2/3, I don't feel any lighter and my clothes aren't fitting any better. I can't weigh myself as DC1 annoyingly broke my trusted scales. I've not lost any inches, though. I'm beginning to wonder what's the point? I was maintaining just fine while eating doughy stuff and crisps. I'm also wondering if this WOE only works of you watch your calories. I'm just not feeling the love right now Sad

OrangeEyesDoMoreThanSee · 15/09/2012 13:12

dolly

Remind yourself of why you are doing this... what inspired you? It does take a while, what peole have suggested in the past is listing what you are eating and some of the more experienced LCers can try to spot carb creep or places to improve?

Thegoddessblossom · 15/09/2012 13:27

yeah dolly givus a squizz at your food intake.....don't give up it does work...

B: not toast after all, but a baby bel and 3 boiled eggs.
L: 2 salmon fillets, with mushrooms, courgette and spring greens cooked in butter.

have to eat loads on a hangover but at least it's low carb. So far.

dollyxdaydreamer · 15/09/2012 14:15

Thanks orange and goddess

Ok a typical day goes sonething like this...

B: 2 or 3 scrambled eggs with spinach or half a punnet of raspberries (85g?) with about 125g greek yoghurt
L: is a big salad - salad leaves, half a red or yellow pepper, hunk of cucumber, then either some chicken and guacamole and feta cheese, or some tuna Mayo and a bit of cheddar cheese, or a couple of boiled eggs with Mayo and a hunk of cheese...
D: last night was Thai prawn curry (coconut milk, prawns, broccoli, peppers) and cauliflower rice; night before was 2 LC sausages, broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage with a bit of gravy; Thursday was leftover chicken madras which did have chickpeas in it but I had it on it's own.
Snacks: two large handful of walnuts/pecans/macadamias/almonds and 2 squares of 85% choc.
Drinks: not enough water, too much tea with milk, large glass of dry White or red.

That's quite a lot of food isn't it. Getting me to write it down helps me to see that probably cheese shouldn't feature so heavily in my diet and neither should so many nuts...

I know I shouldn't have had the chickpeas in the curry.

I guess I should be more strict - I'm snacking a lot when in not hungry, and eating massive portions too. I'm not getting hungry, but neither am I fully satisfied, either. I'm not drinking enough water.

My motivation is to be the healthiest me I can be, and hopefully shrink my spare tyre before it gets too late and I turn into my mother

Any pointers would be great Smile

OrangeEyesDoMoreThanSee · 15/09/2012 14:18

I am not very good at this as I cheat frequently but my first thoughts are

Drink more water (you need to slosh)
Cut out the berries
Cut out the pepper
Go easy on the nuts
If you really want to see results hit the alcohol on the head too

Oh and drink more water Wink

Serious Bootcamp will kick in in a week or so's time, why not continue as you are and then when we all get serious you can ditch the alcohol?

dollyxdaydreamer · 15/09/2012 14:42

Thanks

Good point about the water. Does it get easier? I find it very boring to drink (I'm used to having Robinson's in it but stopped that)

What else can I have with my yoghurt instead of berries?
Also, can I substitute the peppers in my salad for anything else? Or make it more interesting somehow?

Yy regarding nuts and booze.

But seriously, if I go easy on all these things...it kinda gets boring and horribly restrictive and turns into a proper "diet" doesn't it?

Yes I could continue as I am until Bootcamp, but could also eat yummy cake and chips too until then with the same effect (weightwise) but will probably feel rubbish after

OrangeEyesDoMoreThanSee · 15/09/2012 14:47

It does get easier, I don't like milk chocolate any more, I don't want sugary drinks, I enjoy wine and dark chocolate a bit too much but I don't feel the need to crave food like I used to - I have off days, we all do, but in general upping my water drinking helps. I also drink tonic water (most are no carb).

I tend to eat

  • eggs and bacon for breakfast :) and then hard boil eggs on work days
  • soup and a couple of babybels for lunch
  • meat with LC vegetables in the evening

Reason for all above is that DH is not LCing and it means I can simply add bread/rice/potatoes to his meals.

dollyxdaydreamer · 15/09/2012 14:55

What sort of soup do you have? Do you make it yourself? A lot of soup i can think of can be quite carby.

My DH isn't LCing either, but i think I'm adapting our evening meals successfully. Snacking during the day is a problem.

I used to hate dark choc, now I love it and can't imagine wanting anything sweeter. My cravings for sweets have gone. Suppose I should be reminding myself of this at times like this.

teaandthorazine · 15/09/2012 15:16

There's a fab recipe for broccoli and Stilton soup on the recipe thread, dolly, though you're right about lots of soups being a bit carby.

You make a good point about maintaining while eating crap; for me the whole point of LC has become about feeling soooo much better when i don't eat rubbish, weightloss or no weightloss. But it's hard to remember that sometimes (especially today!)
Salads I tend to pile high with stuff like avocado, olives, cheese, posh ham, prawns etc. I do sometimes use a bit of roasted red pepper tbh but you only need a wee bit... Dont forget to be generous with the fullfat dressings.

As for water I find drinking it out of a sports bottle really helps. Can't drink it from a pint glass, it gets boring, but a sports bottle for some reason is fine! Worth a try?
