The NO EXCUSES, Now or NEVER slimming thread

Youcanringmybell · 30/08/2012 16:08

This is a thread for those who are pig sick of over eating and binging and have decided enough is enough.

There will be no excuses on this thread...no 'oh but I was due my period' or 'oh but it was left over so I finished it' etc

IF you need to have a nice meal as part of a celebration DO IT but no more excuses - have the meal and move on.

This is a thread for the brave.....this is a thread for the serious. Join at your peril.....

Monday mornings are weigh in - so that we cannot binge on the weekends. I am deliberately being hard on myself and if you want to do it to please join. Even if someone wafts wine and banoffee pie under my nose I will not have it - even if the world is going to end I WILL NOT HAVE IT

weigh in Monday morning and post here

Oh and drink some wine and eat some choc while you still can because on Monday you will be in hell Angry

I think when I get paid in 2 weeks I will invest in a second hand cross trainer. I used to quite enjoy it at the gym. I have plenty of room in living room so might whack it in front of the telly... Even half an hour every evening is better than nothing!

ImCoveredInBeeeees · 15/09/2012 13:03

Come on everybody!!

My tip is to exercise in the morning, before you have eaten anything. That way you have to be burning body fat, because you havent eaten anything since the night before. Gets the exercise done and out of the way, too.

Youcanringmybell · 15/09/2012 13:44

Can I ask a question??????????

Do any of you have diabetes?

I ask because recently when I have binged (particularly this last week)....I have had some 'symptoms....

I have been getting extremely dizzy and terrible headaches, also feeling very sick. I have been up a lot more in the night wee if I am honest and have been extra thirsty.

So....I am no less than an idiot. I am starting healthy eating for good now. I have scared myself stupid. I HAVE to do this because I think I am on the edge of seriously damaging my health. I am 192lbs. I WILL be 140 by Easter next year when my husband returns home.

He goes tonight...the clock is ticking....

It also means getting out of bed earlier though Beeeees. I can't be doing with that, I'm already up at 7am and couldn't possibly face a 6:30 get up (it's bad enough having dd2 come and climb into bed with me sometime between 6 and 7). I personally think that making an effort to be more active in my day to day life is better for me than trying to fit half an hour of exercise into my day. I am trying to do 10000 steps a day atm with 2 or 3 half hour gym sessions per week as extras. It depends on your lifestyle as to when you can feasibly fit exercise in.

Fermez an exercise machine in front of the telly is a good idea I think. I used to have a little stepper machine that I used while watching Eastenders. I stopped using it when pg with dd2 though and gave it to my mum (who has never used it as far as I know). I find I don't really do exercise at home though because there are always more interesting/urgent things to do whereas if I have set times to go to the gym/for a run/swim it becomes part of my routine and I stick with it.

Goldidi · 15/09/2012 13:50

youcan There is a lot of diabetes in my family and you have just described the first symptoms my mum and sister had. It's really easy to test for it so pop yourself along to the gp. I'm assuming you are older than about 18 so it's most likely it would be type 2 (the less serious type) if it is diabetes. I'm attempting to lose weight now in an attempt to stop myself developing diabetes as I am apparently pre-diabetic.

Youcanringmybell · 15/09/2012 15:32

Ah but Goldidi I am scared Sad

I will see if diet helps first. I would hopefully be able to diet control it anyway.... My do a free test at Lloyds?

OP posts:
Goldidi · 15/09/2012 17:12

It really isn't anything to be scared of youcan. Honestly, I would rather not develop it but I won't be scared about it when if I do get it. My mum has lived with it for over 30 years and it's only in he past 10 years that she has had to move onto insulin, before that she controlled it with diet or tablets. Honestly, pop to the gp and they will be able to put your mind at rest or get you started on some tablets to control it. It is a very liveable condition as long as you keep it under control, it's only if you let it get out of control that you start to get complications. Your symptoms could just as easily describe an UTI which would clear up with antibiotics. You won't know unless you go get tested. I'll hold your hand if you like?

nankypeevy · 15/09/2012 18:04

youcan - diabetes needs to be diagnosed to be managed. It's out-of-control diabetes that causes problems...so, go and prick your finger.

And, with apologies to all those TTC and all that brings with it - congrats on not being up the duff. I've done that nervous peeing and aiming thing - It's Not Fun.

Youcanringmybell · 15/09/2012 18:52

Thank you goldidi and nanky

Think I will go as soon as I can get a lift. I do not drive and my docs is 25 mins by car away Angry

Think i can get a lift later in the week for pharmacy test and then gp if I need to.

Thanks for the diabetes info...x

How are you feeling youcan? Has your DH gone off? Sending a big hug if so.

Went to friends 40th in the pub and didn't have cake!!!! Am so hoping for a decent loss. Had G and T in the pub rather than beer too.

Keep going gang, we can do it.

Goldidi · 15/09/2012 23:03

Well done Goon Resisting cake is hard!!!

I'm hoping for a decent loss too, I feel like I've been really healthy this week.

FermezLaBouche · 16/09/2012 08:31

Goonatic Well done for the g and t's in the pub - beer is always my vice. Cheaper and lasts longer.

Fingers crossed for a decent weigh in for all tomorrow. I only weighed myself yesterday so seems pointless hoping for a change by tomorrow. I'm so glad this thread is still going though - it just shows how serious we all are about changing our lives for the better.

Anyone up to much today? Bit of housework for me, then some quality reading time (bought v for ventetta on new gadget and really enjoying it)

Youcanringmybell · 16/09/2012 08:36

goonatic - feeling ok but a bit surreal. I was up half the night. Husband left late last night, called me early hours saying that his flight was delayed atleast 24 hours and was coming home...then en route home the flight details change and he had to turn around and come back. I was half awake and half asleep and woke up this morning not knowing what was happening.
But yes he has no gone.
Feel a bit gutted as at the beginning of a long 6 and a half months.

Thanks for asking.

Brighter note Today is the day I have changed - no more silly food. Hunger doesn't matter again. I woke up feeling very sick, took my blood sugar and it was 5.9 which i don't think is unusual. I think I am just harbouring a virus maybe...

best of luck for weigh in tomorrow all you good people - you deserve a massive loss.

OP posts:
Goldidi · 16/09/2012 09:06

youcan 5.9is perfectly normal. You should be between 4 and 7 typically. Hope you are ok. It's a shame your dh has gone for 6 months, that must be very hard. Think of how much lighter and healthier you will be when he comes back.

So today involves food shopping, lots of washing, making dp a birthday cake and then once the kids are in bed I've got marking and planning to do too. Such fun. Never mind, I predict a 2lb loss for me.

FuckityFuckFuck · 16/09/2012 09:17

(((hugs))) Youcan

LetLoveRule · 16/09/2012 09:49

Hello all. After an exemplary mon-fri, 2 classes, 1 gym session, 2 walks I slipped up yesterday and started scoffing left right and centre. Why!!!!! Weighed today - not lost a single pound. Sad can one day sabotage the rest? Anyway, off to class now and will be back on regime today, so maybe can salvage it for weigh in tomorrow. Grrrrrrrrr

FermezLaBouche · 16/09/2012 10:25

Wonder if anyone can help - I REALLY want to make my dinners more exciting as I LOVE cooking but it's getting dull. Bearing in mind I can only spend about £25 on food shop this week. So far it's as stands:
Tonight - Roast chicken, mash, steamed veg
Mon - Chicken curry with leftover chicken
Tues - Shepherd's pie
Wed - Shepherd's pie (same as last night)
Thurs - Chicken stir fry
Fri - Beef and veg stew with mash.

I like all these meals but some other suggestions would be gratefully received. Also, I know some of them don;t appear hugely healthy, but I have really cut down the portion sizes to sensible size, and on work days I literally am only eating cereal and soup during the day.

Youcanringmybell · 16/09/2012 10:58

goldidi - Thank you again. I will do blood sugar tonight (when I feel worst) and if all is well I will forget about it altogether.
Enjoy the food shopping! What cake are you making for DP (I ask because I am now impervious to temptation Wink)?

fuckity Thank you very much - hugs are appreciated. i have no family and you lot are a welcome comfort.

letlove STOP WEIGHING You will be fine. Even if you haven't lost you probably have built some muscle and are changing your shape. Keep going...You must be doing well!

fermez Those meals sound delicious - casseroles are very healthy and it can all be very low fat. I am a casserole person...but I also like some frozen fish and savoury rice and bit of salad, chilli con carne, sweet and sour chicken, soups and good old jacket potato. I love to spice everything up as I find it more satisfying

OP posts:
FermezLaBouche · 16/09/2012 11:07

Oooh fish and rice is a nice idea - I may pinch that off you, youcan I hope you are doing ok this morning.
Also seen this recipe www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/2037644/creamy-pasta-with-asparagus-and-peas which sounds lovely so that has replaced the chicken stir fry (there's always too much in a packet for one)

Unfortunately I have washed EVERY single pair of trousers I own so I am trying to dry a pair in front of the fire quickly so I can go to sodding Tesco... (can't help thinking they would be dry quicker if they were size 14 instead of bloody 20!)

Goldidi · 16/09/2012 11:18

fermez I don't think the drying works like that lol. Dd1's trousers take the same time as mine to dry and hers are a size 8! (Ironing them dries them out reasonably quickly though if you need them in a hurry) How about risotto? It's my go-to meal for simplicity (I ignore all the recipes instructions about adding the stock a little at a time and just bung it all in and leave it for 15 mins Blush). Or omelette/frittata? Do you live alone or are you cooking for someone else too?

youcan I'm making a key lime pie. I know it's not traditionally a birthday cake but it's his favourite desert so that's what we're doing (and dd2 likes the electric whisk too so can help)

letlove I doubt you've eaten enough in one day to ruin everything. You might not see the results on the scales straight away if you've just started exercising though as you do build muscle which is denser than fat (ie it weighs the same but takes up less space). I usually find that it's about 2-3 weeks after I start exercising that I start seeing the weightloss on the scales. Keep doing what you're doing and it will come off (you can miss out the weekly binge if you like)

cantmakecarrotcake · 16/09/2012 11:26

Hi folks. Back from a lovely holiday. I'm dreading tomorrow's weigh-in. While I tried successfully to stay away from cake and snacks we did have a couple of drinks every night and takeaway on 3 nights. I'll be disappointed to have put on weight but suspect I may have.

On another note I have neither AF (a week late) nor a BFP (tested twice) so I'm mighty confused and I shall blame any weight gain on my body doing strange things Smile

Youcanringmybell · 16/09/2012 11:27

fermez thanks for the giggle on trousers drying quicker! What a lovely thing for us all to look forward to - our laundry load will be much less arduous Grin

goldidi My husband loves key lime too!! I shall make one for his R and R after christmas! how do you do yours?

OP posts:
Goldidi · 16/09/2012 11:34

carrot I'm glad you had a nice holiday. Don't worry about putting a little bit of weight on when you are on hols, it's what you do now that matters. Get back into your healthy eating and you will lose that weight in no time, don't let yourself give up and stop altogether because of one gain. (this is always the temptation for me, 'I can't do it, so I may as well just get fatter')

youcan I use this recipe for key lime pie and it seems to work really well. We all love it but my slice will have to be pretty small this time as it's rather rich Grin

Youcanringmybell · 16/09/2012 11:46

Oooh looks lovely and easy. Cannot wait to make it. When I do I shall be at least 2 stone lighter and so won't feel guilty ...

Enjoy your slice - I would forego lunch for a bigger slice Grin
