We could keep chatting here until someone starts a new proper thread...

Here is a non low-carb recipe that you could always adapt:

1 tbsp vegetable oil
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 clove garlic, crushed
1 tbsp crunchy peanut butter
1 tbsp sweet chilli sauce
1 tsp soy sauce
3 tbsp boiling water

heat the oil and cook the onion until softened, then add the remaining ingredients and simmer for three minutes

I've made this one several times, and it is lovely - but could be quite carby because of the sweet chilli sauce.

I would:

  • replace the onion with shallots
  • make sure I've got the lowest carb peanut butter (even if it's a smooth one )
  • replace the chilli sauce with some lime juice, chilli flakes and a tiny bit of Stevia/Splenda for the sweetness

The first one looks good and your adapted recipe also... Thanks BIWI ill have to get on the pc later and print them off Smile

I know what ill be having tomorrow!!

BIWI · 04/09/2012 17:30

If it works out, can you post it on the recipe thread? I think that would be a great addition! (And if you can work out how many carbs it has in it, that would be even better!)

PrincessSparkle86 · 04/09/2012 18:05

Sure BIWI will do Grin

captainmummy · 04/09/2012 18:10

Interesting what people say about retaining weight just before TOM - I tend to losea few lbs in the few days before. In fact i then get heavier for about a week after! [I would be bloody different!)

Today i had
B 2 eggs omellette with butter and cream
L about 10 slices ham smeared with mayo and rolled up, and 2 sticks celery dipped into St Agur
S about 5 brazils
D Emmental Lasagne (with some leftover for breakfast tomorrow!)

and 3 litres water.

I've stopped losing weight, so am trying to be really strict, does it look OK?

studyingstudying · 04/09/2012 18:13

Thank you to vezzie for your suggestions for my dinner party! I went for roast chicken (bought from supermarket...) with loads of roast veg (I won't have the potatoes/sweet potatoes). And I've made a pavlova too (I'll have the fruit and cream for the top).

Hopefully it will all taste as good as its currently smelling :)

BIWI · 04/09/2012 18:18

captainmummy - not much veg/salad there. And there is a lot of dairy - cream and cheese. I know that cream stalls me, so maybe give that a miss for a while?

WillieWaggledagger · 04/09/2012 18:24

Captainmummy I lose more around time of period and sts during mud-cycle

WillieWaggledagger · 04/09/2012 18:24

Sigh

MID cycle

HumphreyCobbler · 04/09/2012 18:38

I haven't had a 28 day cycle this month, and I have also suffered extreme grumpiness. I came off the diet during my holiday, I think that is having an effect Sad

makes me really determined to stick to it.

Belly pork with paprika and stir fry cabbage and mushrooms for dinner. Delish.

WillieWaggledagger · 04/09/2012 18:45

I am going to say this here rather than crashing other threads but I am sick of people describing this woe as 'no carb'!

It really is almost impossible to eat no carb unless you were doing Dukan protein days only without the low-fat dairy. And I can't think why anyone would promote that as a healthy way to eat

The other day I ate an entire head of broccoli which was probably about 15g carbs altogether (this is not something I normally do!)

fufulina · 04/09/2012 18:48

Afternoon all, 75.5kg today, so below my interim goal of 76. Woohoo. Onwards and downwards to a healthy BMI of 73kg.

Happy birthday half! We seem to have lots of Virgos on the thread!

Took both dds to the Paralympics today. Was fabulous! Kept being overcome with emotional moments. Ridiculous hormones!

B: two eggs mashed with butter
L: grilled chicken salad with no dressing (old McDonald cafe, as dd1 calls it. Not a lot of low carb options in the olympic park!)
D: so far, two squares of 90% Lindt, and some cheddar. Dd2 majorly unsettled again, and took two hours to settle last night, and feel I'm in it for the long haul again tonight. The burgers I was going to cook are calling to me from the fridge!

I keep seeing the belly pork strips in Sainsburys. Am going to experiment, and also told DH about the lasagne. He is well up for that; it's a favourite.

hazchem · 04/09/2012 18:54

happy birthday half
Been bit norty today and skipped weigh in but will do it tomorrow.

tea - I've been sitting on my hands trying not to post on The Other Thread Grin

And a complete revelation - breast of lamb in the slow cooker. Sainsbury's sell it as part of their Basics range, so it's very cheap. I think the piece I bought cost around £3.70 and would easily feed 2 people. (Not that anyone else in this house is going to get any of it!) It's packed ready-rolled. All you have to do is season it with salt and black pepper, brown it on all sides in a frying pan and then put it into the slow cooker.

That's it! No water/liquid added at all. Slow cook it for around 7 hours and it's absolutely meltingly, fabulously gorgeous.

Viperidae · 04/09/2012 20:56

That sounds gorgeous BIWI, I feel a trip to Sainsburys coming on soon. If anyone is near Morrisons they have vegetables for oven roasting, ready prepared in a foil tray on offer for £1. I've had some and they are nice.

I was very good today but then got held up and, instead of getting home at my usual 5.30ish, didn't get back till after 7 and was starving so have eaten my lovely shepherds pie (topped with mashed leftover cauliflower cheese) then followed it up with 2/3 bag of almonds. I know that is not too bad but I am trying to cut back on nuts as I could eat them till they come out of my ears!

I'm trying to convince myself I can give up Diet coke when my current stash runs out - I know I should but I'm wibbling because I love it!

BIWI · 04/09/2012 21:03

Oh yes - you must give up the Diet Coke! It is no good for you at all.

I couldn't resist, and did post on The Other Thread after all Grin

Thegoddessblossom · 04/09/2012 21:08

Will look out for that BIWI sounds amazing.

This WOE never ceases to amaze me. I only really count the last couple of months although have been harcombing for over a year.

I now have zero cravings for anything sweet. The reference to home made cookies up thread - with out meaning to crow, I just genuinely know they wouldn't have remotely tempted me. (alcohol, now that's another story)

I love the food I eat, it's sumptuous and flavoursome and filling and satisfying. I now think of meals and shop accordingly, which I have never done before, just buying the same old things week in week out and eating boring tasteless low fat crap.

I get on the scales always expecting to see an increase based on the sheer amounts I eat, but instead see a STS or a drop (on the whole) which never ceases to surprise me. I am never hungry, never feel like I am missing out, relish the creamy, tasty, filling texture of what I am eating.

Now that I have been doing it so long dh has stopped questioning it and now accepts what I do and don't eat.

Lunch: 2 boiled eggs, salami, ham, big green salad and roasted veg, chunk of Brie and mayo.

Tea: salmon, broccolli, Boursin. Yum yum hum.

Snacks: 2 teaspoons of peanut butter, 2 more slices of salami, 1 g&t, 2 coffees with cream.

3 litres water.

(hope I haven't jinxed it and scales go up tomorrow!)

BIWI · 04/09/2012 21:29

Great post, thegoddess.

captainmummy · 04/09/2012 21:38

You're right BIWI - I haven';t had much greens today, tho I usually have salad wih lunch and I did have brocolli with dinner.

I don';t really know what to have if not creamy/cheesey sauces or eggs with butter/cream/cheese. I'm going to give some of the suggestions on this thread a try for a few days and see if it helps.

AuntieMaggie · 04/09/2012 21:56

Evening ladies :)

You're all doing so well its inspiring.

Well tomorrow I start a 3 day residential course. I have babybel and aldi kabanos sausages at the ready as well as pistachios incase I need a snack. I know bootcamp said to steer clear but I figure its better than the alternative. I intend to steal meat and cheese from the breakfast buffet to supplement lunch if needed! The good news is as breakfast is cooked for me I will find it easier to eat. I'm still struggling in the morning.

I have been sat next to a table full of cake and cookies and other stuff for the past two weeks and not batted an eyelid - yay me as I would normally just eat it on auto pilot. My sweet cravings are gone apart from fruit. I haven't had any fruit for a week and a half but I do fancy a nice plum or a couple of raspberries something that is naturally sweet. Oh and a craving for a margarita... :o

I'm also finding that I am off strong savoury foods too - I find them too overpowering when I eat them.

My next hurdle at the end of the month will be my french holiday... what am I going to have my pate and cheese on???

EyesDoMoreThanSee · 04/09/2012 22:00

I made a balls up.

Suddenly realised I have nothing - and I mean nothing to eat for my lunches at work the next three days. And lunches on campus aren't that great tbh. So I decided to hightail it to the supermarket with irate DD. Checked soups, bought them, got home feeling insanely impressed that I had figured out a way to not carbcreep.

Then realised that the soup quantities were flipping per 100g, not the 400g of a tin. Hrumph. So I will eat them and just not eat anything else carby at all the next three days. And make my own soups at the weekend. I suspect that was the case as well with a lot of food which I have been eating - I have simply looked at the carb loads per 100g, not the total amount per portion.

Sigh. And I is meant to be clever like.

AuntieMaggie · 04/09/2012 22:02

Captainmummy - how about fish/meat for dinner instead? I've been trying to be adventurous with these in the evening. Though I was meant to have salmon salad for lunch but after eating the salmon I was too full for the salad.

I lost a kg the week of my period but hve sts since!

AuntieMaggie · 04/09/2012 22:03

Aww eyes don't worry I do that too!
