We could keep chatting here until someone starts a new proper thread...

Afternoon all. 76.4kg today, so have been doing this woe for 6 weeks today, and have lost 6.4kg. So averaging a little over a kilo a week, which I think is marvellous. Also visibly shrinking out of clothes and into clothes I haven't worn for years. And am now slimmer than I have been since I got pregnant with dd1 over four years ago. Hooray.

Is Friday, and fancied a treat, and thought that the Lindt orange and almond dak chocolate wouldn't be too bad. Checked the label, is appalling! 35g per 100g! So just got plan 85%. Couldn't believe the difference.

Eyes, myfirnesspal.com is brilliant for tracking crabs, BUT, make sure it is a properly added food, which has carbs in the nutritional breakdown. People add their own food, and sometimes, only calories are there. Other than that is great, and free!

No breakfast today, didn't fancy it.
L: little gem, goats cheese, pepper, avocado, two boiled eggs and mayo
D: jalfrezi on little gem boats with total to take the heat out.
S: macadamias (about 4), a couple of smallests raspberries and will be having some Lindt.

WillieWaggledagger · 31/08/2012 19:04

Auntiemaggie deffo no ice cream on any low carb diet (lots of sugar), but some posters had some good substitutes with whipped cream, yoghurt and berries - hopefully they'll come along soon. It's not boot camp approved though - it's more boot camp light

MrsHerculePoirot · 31/08/2012 19:19

Eyes - I second MyFitnessPal for tracking that sort of thing. I think lentils/pulses would be the sort of better carbs to add back in during maintenance rather than white refined carbs, although someone more experienced may know better than my gut feeling!

I was thinking that meat/fish sounds boring, but actually you can marinade it nicely (not that I ever do!) and instead concentrate on making nice vegetable accompaniements rather than make nice meat bit and then just plain boil boring veg to go with it if you see what I mean?

I don't suppose you want to share your meal plan do you? as I am clearly too lazy to think beyond tomorrow

BIWI · 31/08/2012 19:37

I can send you a spreadsheet wot I wrote, which has all the carb counts for the veg on the allowed list - if you can work with Excel, you can add in other things.

If you want it, PM me with your e-mail address

EyesDoMoreThanSee · 31/08/2012 19:45

Currently putting small hyperactive over tired toddler to bed but will share meal plan when I have finished writing it up on the computer. DD and dh are going to start having porridge with honey for breakfast while I have eggs and mushrooms. Lunches dh will have protein in wraps with salad while it is still warm weather ha bloody ha and I will have protein and salad, back up plan is soups.

I am also intending on doing baking again for DD and dh, starting with banana muffins and flapjacks which I don't like. Oh and a roast on Sunday!

EyesDoMoreThanSee · 31/08/2012 20:15

This is my utterly favourite tagine recipe - but I think it needs tweaking

Smokey Bacon, Bean and Sausage Casserole

150g of dried pinto/canneloni/black eyes beans
15ml olive oil
6 rashers of smoked bacon
6 large sausages
3 large carrots (halved)
3 large onions (halved)
1/2 a small garlic clove
4 bay leaves
30ml of green peppercorns
300ml of unsalted vegetable stock
300ml red wine

Then it slow cooks for 4-6 hours. Utterly divine but I suspect that the onions could be replaced by shallots and the wine removed doesnt taste quite so good then however

WillieWaggledagger · 31/08/2012 20:15

Omg am stuffed had pan-fried duck breast with mushrooms in a cream sauce and a WHOLE head of broccoli (it needed eating). Had to eat quickly as am meeting friend for drinks and it's only now I realise how full I am!

BIWI · 31/08/2012 20:24

Um. Eyes. You do realise how carby that meal is, don't you?

BIWI · 31/08/2012 20:28

Thinking about the need to keep our potassium levels up, this looks like a fab recipe

BIWI · 31/08/2012 20:30

So tonight, back on the wagon apart from the wine. Roast chicken, (with olive oil, lemon, white wine and black pepper/salt), roasted fennel, peppers, shallots and asparagus.

BIWI · 31/08/2012 20:31

Oh, and garlic cloves and chillies in there too. Just reminded of that fact as I've just rubbed my eye and had forgotten to wash my hands after preparing the chillies!

EyesDoMoreThanSee · 31/08/2012 20:37

well yes i do but I was hoping to find a way to make it less carby and hence saying it needs tweaking. I haven't cooked it for a long while but with the autumn weather appearing then the old favourites are being mentioned by DH.

I did think it was perhaps more maintainance than bootcamp?

BIWI · 31/08/2012 20:43

Oh, I see!

First thing to do would be to work out how many carbs are in it now.

fufulina · 31/08/2012 20:44

Oh! The Black Farmer sausages (available in co-op and Sainsburys; not sure about other chains) are a) delicious and b) super low carb. Approx 0.75g per meaty sausage.

Eyes, they would be good in your tagine. Myfitnesspal lets you input your recipes and will give you carbs per portion. That is e genius of MFP.

So, I feel like this thread has got my eating sorted, who would like to come and give me some sleep advice for my pesky smallest??

fufulina · 31/08/2012 20:46

Eyes, how many people does your tagine serve? Am going to do carb count as it stands.

fufulina · 31/08/2012 20:52

Right, assuming four servings, and also assuming pinto beans, low carb sausages, and that green peppercorns are not carby (!), that tagine comes out at 21g of carbs per serving.

Top of head replace onions with shallots, and don't put in the wine, just extra stock? Beans. Hmmm. I don't know what you'd replace those with. But, are you then ruinin it perhaps, and I don't think 21g is too outrageous once on bootcamp lite?

EyesDoMoreThanSee · 31/08/2012 21:06

Thanks guys - it says that it serves 6 portions but DH and I used to eat it all over two nights

SO - still a bit too carby - perhaps minus the wine...

EyesDoMoreThanSee · 31/08/2012 21:09

Re sleep advice - we alternate nights to get 7 hours each in 48 hours because whoever is 'on duty' is woken every 2-3 hours and we have to co-sleep after first wake up. We are working on it but it is slow going.

BIWI · 31/08/2012 21:18

Personally I'd keep the wine - but look to substitute some of the other ingredients. Certainly you need to swap the onions for shallots - onions are 7.9g carbs per 100g, compared with 3.3 for shallots. Similarly the carrots. How about using swede instead? But it's the beans that will be making it really carby. How about just using other veg - e.g. fennel?

EyesDoMoreThanSee · 31/08/2012 21:22

Maybe I could cut the beans to 100g rather than 150g?
Definitely swap the onions for shallots, and leek or swede (maybe celariac?) could work - but i think fennel would overpower the tagine.

Plus DH wouldn't eat it!

MrsHerculePoirot · 31/08/2012 21:31

Apparently Black Soy Beans are lower carb than most beans... this says 8g per 130g. No idea how easy they are to get in a supermarket. I've also read that buying dried beans and soaking them yourself makes them better than tinned ones. More hassle though obvs!

Lamb chop and pork chop with leeks courgettes and mushrooms for tea. Coffee with double cream.

3 gin and tonics

Viperidae · 31/08/2012 22:32

Hello again all!

I know I mentioned it upthread but the "Saving dinner the low-carb way" book is useful if you get in a rut (although not as strict as bootcamp). It is split in seasons and gives you, for each week, 5 or 6 recipes and a shopping list. I am using that and Idiot Proof Diet cookbook, we are eating very well indeed!

I have been surprisingly good today. Omelette for breakfast, out for lunch but had a seafood platter which was fish and prawns with salad. DD and DH wanted pizza for tea so I had the leftovers from last night's tea.

I even survived the personal training session this morning although he did go bery easy on me today!

MegTheCat · 31/08/2012 23:37

fufulina - for sleep advice i'd recommend a book called 'Solve your child's sleep problems' by Dr Richard Ferber (i think). Explains the science behind it, and worked for us when ds2 wzs 18 months. Still helpful for teenager sleep proboems so was worth getting. Ive had it 10 years so there may be something more up to date out there now - on the other hand its prob cheap second hand on amazon

MegTheCat · 31/08/2012 23:51

I'm at my mum and dad's this weekend so low carbing is a bit tricky. Had some homemade bread and jam and lots of cups of tea with milk but at least managed to avoid the cake. I have smuggled in some full fat yoghurt for breakfast tomorrow and some cream for my coffee but will have to be careful not to hurt my mum's feelings.
Went for a run today for the first time in about 2 years. Felt surprisingly good after but tomorrow may be a different story... Any good tips on how to start running? There is a free timed 5k run at our local park every saturday which i'd like to try but will have to build up to it.
