Its been 5 days and I am itching to get on but now DS1 has chicken pox and with going away Shred not been on the menu! Grr
Now I am 2lb up from a fornight ago. I suppose this is an incentive for more low carbing.
I still find I can be a habit eater. Today I said I can have a Snickers only if I am genuinly hungry and it has to be more than 1 1/2 hours away from a mealtime. As i didnt feel hungry enough for one I didn't have one. Result.
Still will try for some Zumba tonight to keep moving.
Sobering to think with all this exercise it is still just within the minimum recommended amount.

VenetiaLanyon · 09/10/2012 09:20

Couldn't face L2 Killer after yesterday's efforts, so did L3 instead. Had forgotten the horrors of one-legged mountain climbers...

notyummy · 09/10/2012 13:41

Well done on getting Killer under your belt Venetia.

I started month 2 of Insanity with a Max Intervals Circuit. Ran out of time!! It is a full hour and I had a meeting to get to. Did 45 minutes though. Bloody hard. A particularly lovely combo sticks in my mind from one if the circuits- moguls for the count of ten; press up jacks for the count of 10; squat thrusts for the count of ten; crow press ups for the count of ten. And repeat. At speed. I may not have managed all the crow press ups. Lots of jumping squats and lunges as well. Legs may feel it tomorrow.

CHST · 09/10/2012 21:57

oh I have this all to look forward to in about week and a half!! I like the look of that combo though

VenetiaLanyon · 10/10/2012 08:53

L1 Shred (pimped) today. Thighs definitely feeling it from Killer earlier this week...

notyummy, Insanity sounds like it does what it says on the tin...a friend had recommended, but are all the workouts fairly long? I can usually only manage Shred length, or Killer at a push?

notyummy · 10/10/2012 09:50

Venetia- the month 1 workouts are mostly around the 40 minute mark, but at least 10 to 15 minutes of that are stretching. He does 10/12 min warn up (not gentle...) then pause for 10 stretching. Then about 15/17 mibs hard core circuit action before a final stretch. I have been ff through the early stretch session to make the workouts nearer 30/35 mins. Month 2 the workouts are generally longer- nearer an hour with stretches, or 45 min-ish without.

Rest day for me today. L3 shred after work tomorrow.

threestepsforward · 10/10/2012 13:32

Afternoon all!
Apologies for being a very part-time thread participant of late. Thankfully, have been keeping up with JM though...

Have gone all the way through Shred again, and am 3 days from completing. Am currently doing L3 with 3kg for last strength circuit, 2.5 kg for cardio section and 5.5 kg for the strength bit before the dreaded jumping lunges! Have also stepped up my jumping lunges, so they are more how she does them in Ripped. I am Wheezy McWheeze by the time the cardio with weights starts!

My body is defo more toned after this month. Am eternally amazed by how effective Shred is!

Now what do I do after Shred? Do I do Ripped all the way through again? Or should I just mix my ridiculously large DVD collection everything up? I like the idea of a set thing for a month or so though, helps keep me on track Smile

Everyone is doing great, keep at it Grin

As I religously get up every weekday to exercise I was thinking about Insanity, but apart from being a wimp I am not sure I have enough time to do a full hour's exercise... I would have to get up at 5.30.

Today it was L4 of Ripped for me, and it is shocking how much easier it is than it was the first time. Although still not easy. And I did all the jumping lunges in L3 as well. How could I get string enough to do mountain climbers, plank thrusts and plank jacks in short succession?

Thanks everyone keeping me on the straight and narrow.

Happypiglet · 10/10/2012 14:00

Hi all.... Still plodding on with Ripped just done day 6 of L3 and need to consider the move to L4 which I have total amnesia about...so day 1 of that could be interesting!
Three steps....I am thinking of doing Shred again next. I haven't done it all the way through for ages.... I have enjoyed doing the Ripped program again... It gives me a focus.... And my life seems to have exploded in busyness so need the shorter programs at the mo!

VenetiaLanyon · 11/10/2012 09:20

L2 Shred - I always hope that someday I will be sooo fit that it will feel easy, but that day was not today...Hmm

Happypiglet · 11/10/2012 13:15

Well I remember why I had blocked out L4 Ripped which I did today.... Burpees and scissor kicks....owowowow.....
Still I sortnof enjoyed it...I like the strength work and quick warm up...
Venetian L2 Shred is such a killer....all JM L2s are bad I think...it seems to be her pattern!

notyummy · 12/10/2012 16:21

happy - I think L4 Ripped isn't too bad - apart from that bit you mentioned! That is tough.

Managed to fit in a L3 Shred yesterday. Did 7KG for the clean and press and row/leg raise. Also added weigghts to the first set of exercises (supermen.) Found my nemesis bloody awful - jumping lunges. Get me every time. I can finish them, but my legs are SCREAMING and feel like rubber by the end. With all the other stuff I do (inc Insanity, which has loads of plyo) I don't understand why that bit never gets any easier. Did a 5 mile run today and NMTZ with DH tomorrow. Going away for the night, but taking ipad so may fit a 6W6P in first thing Sunday monring in the hotel room!

VenetiaLanyon · 12/10/2012 17:32

Happypiglet, agree re L2s pattern - nasty...

Notyummy, I was also on L3 Shred today, with significantly smaller weights Grin. First time ever that I tried the advanced jumping lunges, so feeling pleased with myself, but, boy, they're tiring on the cardio as well as the strength...

Off on holiday now; to Shred or not to Shred during? Hmmmm.....

chocolateshoes · 12/10/2012 17:40

still going strong...babck to back Killer L4 / Shred L3 with 6k weights today but now feel like I've been run over by a bus and will have to go to the pub tonight to feel human again. Sounds as if everyone is doing really well.

Not yummy I hate jumping lunges too but am getting better. For me its those horrendous rockstar jumps - ouf!

Happypiglet · 12/10/2012 21:12

Blimey you lot are so hard core.... Well second day of L4 Ripped....and ow my arms,, my arms....
Why are static squats with presses so much harder than moving squats!! The CV actually felt like a relief after the arm strength bits....no other workout makes them ache so much!
Not sure I will ever manage hard core shataronga push ups(or whatever they are!)

Nolda · 13/10/2012 15:25

Happy - I know what you mean about the static squats and presses but I have no idea why it is so much more difficult. I have to use much lighter weights to even get my arms to move!

Hate, hate, hate jumping lunges and as for rockstars I have to confess that I usually phone them in (don't tell JM).

I've done my elbow in and so my exercising options are much reduced. I have BFBM but have only done it twice and can't remember it very well (only that it is knackering). Can anyone tell me if I'd be able to do it with a dodgy elbow (can't lift weights or put weight on it eg plank work)? I did Davina Bottom Fit yesterday but would prefer a JM workout if poss Grin.

Nolda · 13/10/2012 15:26

Have a good holiday, Venetia!

notyummy · 15/10/2012 10:40

Nolda - BFBM has either 1 or 2 circuits on the ground that involve you needing to be able to do plank etc - but you could just miss them out. Most of the circuits would be doable I think.

Venetia - have a good holiday.

Did NMTZ on Saturday and DH and I just managed to do L2 6W6P in the hotel room yesterday morning - with the 3 kg weights we had brought along. How sad?! The only bit we didn't have room for was the moguls. They were just little jumps side to side tbh. Another run today because the weather is good, and then back to Insanity month 2 tomorrow. My back is twinging after 6W6P yesterday - I think it is the combination of lunging and twisting, and those squat/hammer swing things.

Nolda · 15/10/2012 14:14

Good effort on the 6w6p whilst away Notyummy. I hope your back's OK.

I gave BFBM a go, taking it very easy on punching and plank. It felt OK at the time but my elbow is more sore today Sad. I think I'll have to stick to running and Davina.

notyummy · 18/10/2012 11:53

Very quiet on here at the moment! Hope you are still all out there plugging away and not lying on the couch with injuries.

I managed a 5 mile run on Tuesday and L2 Extreme Shed and Shred yesterday. My back has only just recovered from L2 6W6P on Sunday so I think I will steer away from that for a while. I have also steered away from Insanity this week because it felt like too much hard core jumping around might be a step too far for my back. I also gave blood last night, so didn't want to do anything too extreme beforehand as I know from experience that it sometimes effects my iron levels and I can't donate. I managed to do it after Extreme Shed....although I had to do a second test as it was borderline! Nothing today to allow my body to get busy making new blood - longish run tomorrow. I have to drop the car off for a service, so i will go in my running gear and run a loop home. About 7 miles. NMTZ with DH on Saturday!

Happypiglet · 18/10/2012 12:56

Still here not yummy plugging away. Day 5 of L4 Ripped today. Nearing the end of this so need to decide what to do next. May revisit Shred as it is yonks since I did that.
Might ask for Extreme Shed and Shred for Xmas. Are they short programs like ripped and shred? I am struggling to fit the longer routines in although I may do a few Killers in between finishing Ripped and restarting Shred.
Weight has started to creep up again as i am eating really badly so I need to keep an eye on that.

gingercat12 · 18/10/2012 13:36

I second Happypiglet in terms of plugging away. On Ripped L4 so "...Not even talking... any more" as Jillian would say. Mind you I am suprisingly good with plank moguls.

I am also interested in short, 30-35 minutes tops, bursts of exercise, as I really do not want to get before 6.

Spent last weekend in London on a girly weekend. Ended up not eating all day Saturday and was given ice cream for dinner. It is not my thing, really. However I managed to do BFBM both days. Result!

gingercat12 · 18/10/2012 13:41

I mean I do not want to get up before 6. I'll get a cup of coffee now.

BTW without trying to channel Peter Mannion, this week I wore my brand new and smaller shirts tucked into my brand new and smaller trousers. I have not done this for probably 10-20 years. Strange to have a much smaller stomach. (Still very big though.)

Hope Nolda and notyummy are feeling better.

How is everyone doing? Am I the only one craving chocolate when it is dark during the day?

MegBusset · 18/10/2012 17:53

Well I am taking a break from Shredding for now. I'm on week 5 of Couch to 5k and finding that as the runs get more strenuous, I need the rest days in between for my knees/legs to recover. I'm also finding running more effective for calorie burning, and have reached my target weight, so am going to see how I get on just running 3x week.

I may be back once it gets too cold/dark for running outside!!

Good luck and well done all you dedicated JMers :)

xelliex · 18/10/2012 19:02

I'm another one plugging away; onto ripped L3, so glad to get L2 out of the way! I've been working longer shifts at work so I've not been doing it daily, and don't feel like I'm improving much. I probably need to do each level 10 times rather than 6 or 7.

gingercat I'm also craving chocolate more now it's getting cold and dark, in fact I'm craving stodgy food more in general. I really have to force the salads down in winter...
