Hi all. Have had a migraine-y headache for 3 days now and really feeling fragile. As a result did nothing on Thursday, and after some serious meds yesterday decided I would try L1 Extreme Shed and Shred. Even feeling slightly fragile it really wasn't that hard. Not a complete breeze, with a few tough ones for the core, but quite a different kettle of fish to L2! On that note, because L1 is not that tough, I think doing them back to back is quite achievable. I think 2 shreds or 2 ripped would be a better use if tone though- slightly tougher with the right weighed znd slightly shorter.

Calf strain is gradually getting better. Went out for another run today after not running for a week (2 weeks since I strained it.) This time I managed 4 miles, but could def feel it by the end. Will not run on it again until Thursday.....when I shall be in a hotel in Budapest for a girls long weekend 40th celebration, good gym in the hotel so am taking workout gear!!

notyummy · 22/09/2012 12:16

Should say 'better use of time'!

gingercat12 · 23/09/2012 19:04

notyummy You are hard core, but we knew it.

Geeklove 5kg weights?! Wow!!! I can never have a rest day when on AF, because Jillianing makes it less painful and shorter Confused, so it is definitely worth the effort.

I changed my work pattern due to reception starting for DS, so work 5 days instead of 3 for the same hours and money. Very demoralising. Although I try to keep up with the thread, I have to get up at 6 every morning to do Ripped, shower and get to work, so go to bed very early. Maybe I am too sleepy in the morning in the dark (try not to wake family up) to stand up to Jillian, but I improved loads in a week. I can only BFBM at the weekend, so am a bit stalled with that.

YouveCat Only one circuit of BFBM is too bad for your pelvic floor (circuit 3), and I normally take a toilet break after that. Well, it needs to suit us, not the other way round...

If I ever finish Ripped, I'll try to get Extreme Shred. I hope it is not longer than Ripped.

MegBusset · 24/09/2012 14:31

Shred level 1 day 7 done (had a cold at the end of last week so couldn't do anything). C25k tomorrow then on to level 2, I think. After a week or so of no weight loss, today weighed in at only 1/4lb over the elusive 9st target!

GeekLove · 24/09/2012 19:04

Grrr of the Shred since I have a chest infection. Believe it or not I miss it. I have found that it does make AF shorter but Ive only had 4 since AF returned.

catgirl · 24/09/2012 20:38

just day first L2 of shred - I feel like a wimp compared to you lot Grin - is it normal to feel sick near the end?? I have had to make myself a peppermint tea! Also when SHE says at the end 'see you tomorrow' is it normal to seethe through gritted teeth ... 'no you won't'. I was feeling quite good about how much I could do in L1 after 2 weeks..... so am going to be optimistic that I will have breath in my body after 2 weeks of L2!

xelliex · 25/09/2012 08:40

Started ripped finally. Have done level 1 5 times (doubled up a couple of days) and wouldn't say I found it that easy. The moves seemed simple but I definitely felt it the next day. Not sure whether to start level 2 after doing level 1 6 times or whether to do it a whole week. Had a look at L2 and it seems impossible to me!

notyummy · 25/09/2012 09:21

Xell - L2 Ripped does feel a lot harder than L1 according to most people (inc me!) Depends on whether you are up for a challenge....

Sorry about the colds/chest infection. IME the shred is doable with a cold, but not with a chest infection! It's that old thing about if the symptoms are below the neck (shivery/temp/weakness) best not to exercise, but if they are just above (huge snotty nose/slightly sore throat) then you can still exercise. I have had a cold for the last few days (thanks DD...) and my period. And a migraine. Grim. Thankfully migraine cleared on Saturday - after I went for my run. Maybe a connection? I managed NMTZ with DH on Sunday despite being a snot bucket and actually after I warmed up the snot seemed to dry up a bit (sorry, tmi!)

Had a rest day yesterday and am going to do L2 Extreme Shed and Shred today. I am low carbing in an effort to lose a pesky 3/4 pounds that have crept up on me, and I want them gone before my girls weekend away to Budapest. It works, but is so BORING. Not hungry. Just bored. Not sure I would manage Insanity with no carbs at all inside me, so will try JM inside.....just that little, little bit easier. 4 pounds gone in 36 hours though.....

CHST · 25/09/2012 13:56

hi notyummy I know what you mean about not doing insanity without carbs! I haven't tried to do it first thing like I have with other workouts because it really takes the energy out of you. I am eating more now to not feel tired. You really need to fuel your body for insanity.
Did pure hell cardio today. I will get better, I will! Finishing off with burpees and plank jacks when you have nothin left in the tank is just insane though. And I get scared when I hear month one is like a warm up for month two eek!!!
Not yummy, what sort of calorie level are you at? I know I need to keep my calories up but not sure how to do it as I am not really a big eater. What do you think of protein shakes?

notyummy · 25/09/2012 14:09

CHST- I don't usually count calories as my weight/BMI/body fat usually stay the same. (I'm 5 ft 10, usually weigh around 10 st 4/5/6 which is a 21 BMI. Body fat around 22%.) Very roughly I think I eat around 2300 calories a day. I don't usually drink much, and avoid bread/pasta/potatoes/crisps/sweets and most breakfast cereals. Other than that I eat most things, inc cheese and cake!! I do consciously focus on eating plenty of lean protein, so I usually have cooked chicken or fish in the fridge to snack on.

I have had a very social couple of months which has meant I have gained a few pounds and can't seem to lose them eating what I normally eat. From experience I know that a few days of low carbing really sorts me out, and I don't put the weight back on straight away afterwards. 36 hours in and I have lost nearly 4lbs already!

Happypiglet · 25/09/2012 20:02

L2 ripped again today. Did what one of you lovely people suggested and swapped mountain climbers in circuit one with high knees in circuit three. It made circuit one more doable but my life doing mountain climbers as the last CV exercise is not fun!
Had four days off over weekend due to a wedding and house guests so still only managed three sessions last week. Should get four in this week and will try to push up to my usual five next...
Off to watch the Bake Off as a kind of substitue to actually eating anything nice!!!

xelliex · 25/09/2012 20:35

Did level 1 ripped this afternoon, and attempted level 2. I thought whilst the dds were in school/nursery I should take advantage of uninterrupted 'me' time!

I got through it all but I honestly think I spent so much time stop/starting/rewinding the dvd trying to learn the moves that I probably made it alot easier for myself. And some of the moves that I knew how to do - like plank jacks and mountain climbers - no way could I do them together! I had to modify the last set.

I think I'll start on L2 properly tomorrow....

MegBusset · 26/09/2012 12:52

Shred level 2 day 1 here. (I'd got as far as L2 before the summer hols so knew what to expect). I actually prefer it to L1 as I find the strength exercises a bit easier, although my trainers keep slipping off during plank jacks/squat thrusts!

xelliex · 26/09/2012 15:00

Just done ripped level 2 and I'm a shaky, breathless mess! This is more like the Jillian I know and love/hate

Lavenderhoney · 26/09/2012 19:00

Please can I join you? I can't get to the gym or go running- even swimming is hard with the dc about. My dh s always at work. I have started to do the shred and am on level 2, using the Zumba weights which are nt heavy enough! How heavy weights shoud I get? I used to be just under 9 stone before dc, about 6 years ago and have about 10 kg to lose. I had 2 c s so I have the dreaded overhang. The weight is all on my tummy, I look huge, no waist anymore. I used to be a real gym bunny and cross country runner, which is impossible now.

I have downloaded the shred onto the iPad sp I can do it anywhere at home:) will it get rid of my tummy? Am using myfitnesspal too. I was thinking of adding some home pilates eg loads more situps. However I have spotted Gillian's flat abs thing so am tempted to download that.

VenetiaLanyon · 27/09/2012 17:36

Welcome Lavenderhoney Smile. I lost weight starting with little 1kg weights and then moving up to 2kg. Since this helped me to lose 2 stone (from 11 stone to 9 stone) I'm not contemplating getting anything heavier!

MegBusset · 27/09/2012 20:13

I have 1kg weights and will be sticking with them, as my arms have a tendency to go muscly and I don't want to get too ripped!

8st 13lb this morning, the first time under 9st in a loooong time :)

GeekLove · 28/09/2012 23:00

A whole week off the Shred but starting again Monday. Strictly speaking I tend to mix it up with Shred lvl 2 and 3 with some NMTZ and BFBM - 6W6P is at a friends house. Seldom complete NMTZ as I have 1hour max after work to do it so if I do at least 4 circuits more is a bonus.

Mind you I cracked open Wii Zumba on Wednesday and had forgotten how much fun it is. Zumba with my 1kg strap on weights looks like a possibility!

As for getting muscly - you get stronger much faster than getting muscley - you would have to be mainlining protien drinks and eggs like they were going out of fashion for that to be an issue not to mention multiple workouts in a day.
For me I want to get below 10st before Christmas - even though I'm still technically overweight I am back in all my pre-pregnancy clothes now. Also I want to do the monkey bars at the assault course near the leisure centre - right now I can't do a pull up (hands outwards) only chins (hands facing)!

Lavenderhoney · 29/09/2012 03:54

Thanks Venetia, I have found some 1kg weights so will start to use those. Does anyone do the shred or other DVD more than once a day? you all sound super fit and slim. ( breathes in nervously)

I did swim yesterday and was n my feet all day so no time to shred. Fell asleep putting dd to bed so nothing after dc in bed either:(

MegBusset · 29/09/2012 11:24

Day off yesterday. Pub last night. Shred L2 day 2 this morning, before breakfast, with a hangover

threestepsforward · 29/09/2012 17:12

Hello all!
And hello to all new posters!

I slipped off the thread a bit. Have still been exercising but just so much going on. Decided to go through Shred again as it helps me to get back in the zone after losing track a bit. Just finished 10 days at level 2 and ready to move up, yay! Even after all this time, Shred still does it for me. Things are already tighter and neater than they were. I've never known a DVD like Shred for results, and I've done a fair few of them now Grin

Hiya Lavenderhoney Smile
There are sometimes some double sessions going on, the most likely candidate would be notyummy I think. I've done 2 Shreds back to back occassionally. I think it was McPie who is on this thread who once did an unbelievable amount of Shreds in a day? (made me faint just reading about it!).

I reckon 1kg is great to start out, you'll know when it feels the right time to move up. And Shred will help your tummy too.

Hope everyone's having a good weekend Smile

hawthers · 30/09/2012 20:08

My name is hawthers and I've totally fallen off the shred bandwagon argh! Was doing really well ie every day but then got a bit just and I've not done it since Thursday and missed a couple if days before that.

Back on it tomorrow. Going to do level 2 and treat it as day one. Also had 2 cs and have overhang (oh the joys) but after 10 days of level 1 with 1kg weights I definitely saw and experienced loss in the tummy area.

GeekLove · 30/09/2012 22:52

I did it! Did a double Shred lvl 2 and 3 back to back. Felt OK but had to have a lie down after lunch although that might have been the wine!

Definately harder than NMTZ since theres all the cardio and planking too. Think in future do say 3 NMTZ circuits and have a 2 min cardio session between them.

Wii fit weigh in tomorrow....

GeekLove · 30/09/2012 22:54

PS wrt swimming with babies. You don't get much swimming but it does your legs good since you are squatting/lunging in the pool all the time - it does add up so it is certainly not a dead loss for exercise here!

Lavenderhoney · 01/10/2012 03:43

Thx threestepsforward. I have my 1kg weights now plus am halfway through level 2 shred. Anther 5 days til 3! Very hard with the weights. Also took dc swimming yesterday plus did loads of extra Pilates situps. Still dithering with buying Gillian's fast abs in 6 weeks - anyone get it and does it work? Have to get rid of cs overhang and tummy!
