Well, week 15 of Bootcamp has just ended. But the support and banter will continue! I, for one, am carrying on for the next couple of weeks until my holiday, in the hope that I can drop another pound or so before I go.

There have been some brilliant losses in the last two weeks, so I'm hoping that you'll all be sticking with it too!

emmak86 · 02/08/2012 22:41

I really would give it longer than two weeks! You might not see results straight away.. I have lost weight on this WOE but at the moment my tums still there.
I would persevere with it Smile

jollymary · 02/08/2012 22:44

Thankyou. Sounds like you are doing great! Unfortunately have to go camping soon, so won't be easy to stick to. Only thing I could think of "tweaking" was nuts as snacks, are seeds a good alternative low-carbs-wise, does anyone know?

SingingTunelessly · 03/08/2012 06:48

Jollymary, why don't you give us a list of a day's eating? Maybe there is something that needs tweaking? Once you've got the fat content high enough the need for snacking really does lessen. If you really fancy a snack how about Babybels, pâté on cucumber or smoked salmon with cream cheese rolled up inside or hard boiled eggs.

I've seen this woe of eating as recommended for PCOS sufferers. I've got an underactive thyroid which is notorious for weight gain and I'm losing weight. Smile Also, how much weight do you have to lose?

SingingTunelessly · 03/08/2012 06:59

Morning all!

fiddle did we decide what to do with the spreadsheet? I saw you asking then by the time I came back the thread had galloped on. Are we keeping it going in some format? Agree, it was getting a bit unwieldy wasn't it. But thank you for sorting it.

Can I just say 9.13!!!. Oh happy day. Grin Grin Grin

Throws Thanks to all you lovely people on our thread with an extra Thanks Thanks to BIWI for starting me on this woe and the long term inspiration LCer Jins

sybilfaulty · 03/08/2012 07:36

Well done, Singing, great stuff.

Had the spicy pork with lettuce last night. Terrible munches yest tho, but period arrived (rather early, eek) and that might be it. I ate all low carb stuff, just rather a lot of it. I actually was hungry which I usually am not on this WOE so I ate a lot. Mucho water today I think.

Jolly I too would ditch the nuts. Whilst healthy they are quite dense so it's easy to eat a lot and increase carbs that way. Remember pork scratchings are much lower carb if you need a tv snack in a packet! Tesco sell ones which are pure crackling with a little salt, so no nasties.

Happy Friday, everyone.

tiptoemum · 03/08/2012 08:15

Hi Hazchem, I had a terrible day on day 2 which I couldn't believe was down the low carbing but must have been. I had such a bad headache, really like a migraine which I have never suffered from, that I ended up going to bed! But thankfully it was just for one day so I think it is just paracetamol and grin and bear it.

SharonGless · 03/08/2012 08:15

Singing - well done that's fantastic.
Well it's my birthday n Sunday and my target was to get down to 12 stone. I weighed in this morning at 12 2 and with last weekend in Barcelona I am quite happy with that.

I feel so much better about myself on this Woe, not just being slimmer but health wise both physically and mentally. Long term I would like to lose another half stone before Xmas but short term to maintain this weight over the summer hols.

My BF has Organised a camping weekend for a load of mates and their kids so I won't be around for a couple of days but would like to thank BIWI for starting Bootcamp but also all the other posters along the way who have shared their stories and experiences but kept me on the straight and narrow.

Thanks
Thegoddessblossom · 03/08/2012 08:24

Have a great time Sharon. Hope the weather holds for you. Well done on nearly being at goal.

STS the same today which is fine, but am wondering if the fact that I haven't "been to the loo" (ahem) since Monday could be a factor. Having not been able to get off the toilet on Sunday I seem to have gone in the other direction.

Really not hungry this morning, have had a berocca and a cup of decaf tea, am off to the gym so will have an early lunch.

mummyduff · 03/08/2012 08:42

Well done singing that's fabGrin and Sharon have a fab time x

OK So figive me BIWI for I have been very bad last night and feel crap this morning about itSad
I had jelly and ice creamBlush was not even very nice and was my 1st real carb fest since starting 15 weeks agonot counting alcohol!!

Scales are being nice as I sts today!

No appetite this morning so its a coffee for meSmile

Jins · 03/08/2012 08:53

Well done singing. Where are you hoping to get to?

Changing that number at the front is such a boost. I remember being ecstatic at changing a 10 to a 9 and even more so when the 9 changed to an 8 Grin

Less happy when the 8 changed to a 7 but eventually I got the hang of maintenance...

Jins · 03/08/2012 08:56

Jolly if you have PCOS then there is some evidence to show that you have switched to the best way of eating. However weightloss does tend to be slower if you have PCOS. Focus on the health benefits.

Weight loss is slow with any method if you have PCOS from what I've read.

hazchem · 03/08/2012 09:11

tiptoemum I have to say i read that as " I think it is just paracetamol and gin" hehehe

It's interesting about the PCOS Jin and singing. I found this WOE because I've stated get dreadful acne and some other things but speaking to my doctor this week she wants to rule out PCOS so I'm glad I'm on the right track if that is what i have.

B- Salmon fillet, salad and followed by bowl of greek yogurt
L- We are out for lunch so not sure
D- Steak, aubergines, courgettes with a yogurt tahini sauce

fufulina · 03/08/2012 09:26

Morning all,

Just checking in and ditching the fruit seems to have done the trick. 79.1kg this morning, so 1.1kg since Saturday. And feeling fantastic! Energised and suddenly not peeing so much (TMI, sorry) despite the actual gallons of water.

Also doing lots more reading around the subject, and my word it is controversial! Who knew!

Jins · 03/08/2012 09:34

Oh yes it's very controversial. Welcome to the world of having every mouthful you eat judged

Badvoc · 03/08/2012 09:43

Have woken up with a a hemiplegic migraine this morning so not much of an appetite :(
Had a coffee and an apple...I am very unsure about ditching fruit tbh...I suffer from constipation - even on my old high carb way of eating - so I am very nervous about cutting out fruit completely...
Briffa says berries are unlimited and to have apples in moderation.
I don't hunk I will have lost any more since my weigh in the other day...have cheated this week and don't think I will be able to eat much today :(
Jins...can it ask you a question? What was your starting weight? How long did it take to get to your goal?
Well done btw!

teaandthorazine · 03/08/2012 09:45

hazchem - this WOE will do wonders for your skin. I suffered from awful cystic acne for years (it appeared straight after ds was born, he's 9 now), it was hell. This WOE has been so helpful. I'm convinced that it's the lack of sugar - I swear bacteria loves the stuff! Plus, my skin is much 'plumper' and just, well, prettier Grin - the fat is so good for it.

Re: controversy over this WOE - it always amazes me. If I look in my fridge now all I see is super-healthy, wholesome, fresh food. But there's so much misinformation about LC - people thinks it's bacon with a side order of cream for every meal, don't they? And if I hear one more person say 'ooooooh, no fruit? How can that be healthy?' or 'Ooooooh, I just couldn't give up my carbs, my body needs them for energy', I think I may spontaneously combust.

All we can do is be shining, healthy, happy examples of the low-carb WOE!

teaandthorazine · 03/08/2012 09:48

Badvoc - poor you, hope you feel better soon. Wrt the constipation, I'd say stick to the berries. Apples may not help. I only say this because the old cure for the squits is the BRAT diet - bananas, rice, apples and toast - they're meant to bung you up (sorry tmi Grin). Make sure you're drinking plenty of water too.

Badvoc · 03/08/2012 09:53

Yes. Think I will stick with the berries and ditch the apples..
Berries are handy for breakfast some days too.
Have ditched the nuts too.
Might try some scrambled egg...

hurricanewyn · 03/08/2012 09:53

Can I join in?
I've been lurking for a couple of weeks but feel I should join in now & make sure I'm on the right track.
So, I had a huge breakfst this morning as I'm going to be out & about during the day without a chance to eat lunch.
I've had:
Scrambled eggs with blackforest ham
Mushroom stuffed with cream cheese & blackforest ham
2 oopsie rolls
Coffee

Feel like I won't eat till tomorrow Blush, but does all that look alright?

Jins · 03/08/2012 09:58

Badvoc I've copied my 'story' from one of the earlier threads for you. You should bear in mind that I'm not very tall and every pound shows. If I can find them I'll stick my before and after pics on my profile.

^My weight crept up gradually over the years to about 10st 8 which is a BMI of 27 or so. I started Weightwatchers for about the fifth time and gained a pound a week on 20 points which I stuck to religiously. A few weeks in to it a friend was starting Atkins and I decided to give it a go. It was June 2003 and I weighed 10st 11.

I hit goal of 8st 7 in about 6months I guess with various stalls and gains along the way. Maintenance was tricky for me as I'd not followed the rules and had no idea where my maintenance carb level was so I ended up dropping to 7st 10 which was too thin at a BMI of 19. Eventually I settled at about 8st - 8st 5 in June 2004. BIWI knows I was (and am) pretty hardcore old school Atkins without all the treats and processed junk that's being sold under the banner.

That is what I have weighed within a couple of pounds until last year when I had to have a few hospital stays and went off piste a bit. I gained a little weight (max 9st 7 BMI 24) but have since dropped back to 8st 11. I'm older now and although it's a little heavier than I like to be it's not a bad weight.

So since 2004 I lost about 3 stone and regained a stone whilst still staying within normal BMI. It's not all about the weight loss, you have to be able to keep it off. ^

It was a year to get to my maintenance weight BUT I hovered above it for 3months during a stall and below it for 2 months. Realistically those few pounds make bugger all difference in terms of how you look or feel or how your clothes fit but it gets to be all about reaching the number. I'm about 8st 9 right now and I'd like to be 8st 3 but it's not a biggie.

TeamGBIWI · 03/08/2012 09:59

Welcome, hurricane! Just be careful about the oopsie rolls - others have reported that they can impede weight loss.

You may also need to keep an eye on the dairy - although it's lovely on this WOE to be able to include cream, too much of it can prove an issue for some of us. And what did you have in your coffee? If it was milk, be careful not to have too much/too many cups, as the carb count can quickly add up.

Apart from that, all looks fine so far!

badvoc really sorry to hear about your migraine Sad I suffered from migraines in my first pregnancy - never before and never, thankfully, since - and I wouldn't wish them on my worst enemy. I think you really need to do some reading about low carb to understand why fruit is not such a great thing. If you're worried about the fibre content, then eat more veg. Then you're getting the nutrients you need and the fibre you want but without the sugar, which you don't need.

singing Thanks well done!

TeamGBIWI · 03/08/2012 10:02

jollymary you say you have been strict, but you also admit to wine! Which is it Wink?

When you say it's not working for you - how do you know? Have you weighed yourself? Did you take your measurements before you started? If you're just going by your appearance in the mirror, then you will have no idea if you have lost at all, especially only in a two week period. I have lost just over 1.5 stones, now - but I look just the same (to my eyes) in the mirror. That's because I have lost weight proportionately all over. So the bits that were bigger/flabbier in the beginning are still the biggest bits, as that's where most of my weight is laid down.

I can only really tell that I've lost weight when I weigh myself and, most tellingly, when I put my clothes on.

This WOE is definitely a better one for PCOS, but as Jins says, you may find weight loss a bit slower than someone who isn't a sufferer. Other symptoms, though, should also be helped by eating low carb.

OP posts:
Badvoc · 03/08/2012 10:06

Hmm...yes. I will read briffa again.
I can't actually feel my lips ATM or my face in the left side so am off to lie n sofa and feel sorry for myself :)

TeamGBIWI · 03/08/2012 10:06

badvoc - I am a great Briffa fan, as others may have noticed on these threads Blush! (I think I should get commission for the number of times I've recommended his books!) However, I'm not so sure his dietary advice is especially great for weight loss. IMVHO I think it's more about guidelines for maintaining a healthy weight.

An average apple will deliver you around 20-25g carbs on its own - although we're not aiming to count carbs on Bootcamp, and there is no daily set limit, by the time you add in all the other carbs you will eat from other salad/veg, that is likely to take you to a pretty high daily carb level, which is likely to compromise weight loss.

If you're doing low carb to be healthier, then this could be sustainable for you. But if you're doing it to lose weight, than this is a risky strategy.

Jins · 03/08/2012 10:08

OK my heavily edited before and after pics are on my profile Grin

What have I done??????????
