Well some of you are, clearly!

And I notice more talk about maintenance, which is evidently a very good sign.

I think the best way for maintenance is to gradually increase your carbs until weight loss either stops or you find that you're putting weight back on.

Don't rush out and fall face first into a plate of pasta, though! Start with fruit and veg (be careful with which fruits and how much), and possibly some legumes - e.g. lentils, or beans - i.e. we're looking to add 'good' carbs into the diet, rather than rush straight into 'accessible' carbs which have an immediate impact on your blood sugars.

Today is Day 1 of Week 1 in my 'let's get that last half stone off' before I go on holiday. (Except that last night's meal, plus a bit of 'eye off the ball' time, means it's more than half a stone now ...)

is it this article nigella?

mark's daily apple discusses it here

having skim-read the abstract the researchers don't draw very strong conclusions - i think that's the media hyping it

PenisVanLesbian · 27/06/2012 15:13

Thanks. Not veggie but tend to cook a lot veg food, and bulk out meat with pulses/beans etc.
This is hard to get my head around because pretty much everything I eat day to day is not "allowed". Sad

WillieWaggledagger · 27/06/2012 15:34

PVL once you've got over the initial carb withdrawal, you would find that you don't need as much food to fill up anyway, so the 'bulk' wouldn't be necessary.

Jins · 27/06/2012 15:41

Bulking out meat with pulses or beans isn't going to work very well as they are very carby. Better to use the low carb veg in the list for bulking.

Jins · 27/06/2012 15:42

Sorry I misread your post. As you were

PenisVanLesbian · 27/06/2012 15:44

No, I know, thats why I am at a loss as to what to make, pretty much everything in my usual repertoire is carb heavy. Even the things people mention here, like the mushrooms with cheese which sounds lovely, I can't imagine not putting it ontop of a slice of toast!
I'm going through the recipe thread for ideas.

WillieWaggledagger · 27/06/2012 15:49

if you're eating full fat you really are satisfied without the piece of toast - it's just a vehicle

teaandthorazine · 27/06/2012 15:52

Thing is penis Grin [childish] - we ALL felt like that about toast etc but the amazing thing is how quickly you adjust. None of us on here were ever toast-refusers before this WOE, I can promise you! But the other night I cooked spag bol and didn't even contemplate having the spag! (in fact I didn't even have veg or salad, just a bowl of bolognaise sauce with plenty of cheese, but don't tell BIWI I skimped on the veg!) It can be done, honest, it just needs a bit of lateral thinking in the early days.

teaandthorazine · 27/06/2012 15:54

Am LOVING that the creamy mushrooms are working for everyone btw! Grin

Jins · 27/06/2012 15:57

I'm really tempted by the creamy mushrooms but have no mushrooms in and can't drive today Sad

PenisVanLesbian · 27/06/2012 15:59

I think its my mind I need to battle with rather than my stomach! I do feel more full on the lo-carb, I do feel it for longer, its a mental adjustment I need to work on.

Just had the creamy mushrooms for lunch, with 2 frankfurters. Delicious!

sybilfaulty · 27/06/2012 17:18

Have mushrooms but no cream! Am desperate for a loss after my gain this week.

OTOH I went shopping with a friend today and fitted a sixe 12 dress! Admittedly Monoon, which is generous with sizes I think, but still pleased. Friend has lost 18lb on this WOE and bought 2 tops and 2 dresses! She looks fantastic.

Have a great evening. I'm off for another swim. Get me !

jan2011 · 27/06/2012 17:19

I went out to lunch today with my best friend from school. A bit of a blast from the past, as I left school 35 years ago! (Bloody hell - how did that happen?!)

I had two starters. The first was a marinated, grilled vegetable salad with goats cheese. Veg was asparagus, aubergine, courgette, peppers and carrot. I left the carrot. The dressing was with balsamic vinegar, but mostly the balsamic was used as a place decoration (fancy blobs in each corner), so I was able to avoid most of that. The second starter was carpaccio of beef, with shavings of parmesan and rocket, dressed with olive oil and black pepper. It came with lemon to squeeze over the top.

I drank only fizzy water, and then had a coffee with a little milk afterwards. (I shouldn't have ordered the coffee as I'm trying to cut down on milk consumption as well as dairy - although I obviously messed up the 'no dairy' with all the cheese as well!).

And now I'm really hungry this afternoon. I wonder why that would be? (Breakfast was 2 hard-boiled eggs with mayo, so I have had plenty of fat today)

Hi everyone. Smile

First time posting on the bootcamp threads, but I've been following your rules morphed with some other low carb rules for 9 days and I've lost 9lbs. [happy happy emoticon]

I've been feeling really good on it from day 1 - no carb cravings, astonishingly, and feeling much more even tempered, calm, stable in my energy levels, sleeping much better. Couple of episodes of diarrhoea (TMI Hmm) and feeling weak on exertion, and a few mild headaches is all. Two days ago though I was feeling really tired, and then today I feel really exhausted and weak. I walked the dog fine earlier but now I'm aching, nauseous and, well, a bit feeble, frankly. Grin

Has anyone got any advice as to whether it's anything to worry about please?

I know I've been in ketosis because I've been ragingly thirsty most of the time. I've got my period, which is heavy as usual, I wonder whether that could be the tipping factor. Should I ease off and have more carbs, or stick it out, do you think?

BIWItheBold · 27/06/2012 17:39

Stick it out! Losing 9lbs in 9 days is brilliant and it would be a shame to undo that. (Oh, and welcome by the way Smile)

Are you eating enough fat? Are you eating enough, generally? And - especially as it is so warm today - are you drinking enough water?

What have you been eating? List out for us your meals over the last few days and see if we can spot anything.

NonAstemia - I think you are probably dangerously low on salt. Quickest way to test and fix this is to dissolve a stock cube in a mug of water. If it tastes nice rather than hideously salty then you're low on salt and it would be a good idea to go out and get some lo-salt and load up on that for the potassium.

Can we helicopter some emergency magic mushrooms over to Jins? Grin

Re: toast, and all that .... I don't miss it one little bit. Everything else I eat is way too filling without toast as well. Doesn't take long to get used to it. I'm a cream freak and tend to be a bit generous with it when making my magic mushrooms. Defo no need whatsoever for toast. That's just habit I reckon, and easy to break a habit but give it a week or so...

Helicoptered mushrooms sound fab. I'll get some when movement returns to my shoulder. I'll make do with cheesy ratatouille and duck sausages tonight Grin

frankie4 · 27/06/2012 18:11

I am on track this week. Just had chicken salad for dinner.

I have started going out for fast walks, hope to go 2 or 3 times a week. Got a wedding to go to this summer, so really got the incentive now.

Nonastemia - I also get more thirsty when I have my period. I think it is because I get hot so maybe lose more water in sweat (!) and also lose water the more obvious way due to period!

teaandthorazine · 27/06/2012 18:18

Dp has suggested Indian tonight, so I'm going for green spice tikka, sag paneer and mushroom bhaji - can't wait! It's inevitable that I will have half a poppodum so I'm not even going to pretend I won't!

Breakfast was the usual protein shake and lunch was egg mayo salad from work. have had a couple of litres of water - it's so humid today!

jan2011 · 27/06/2012 18:20

ooh i made my emergency magic mushrooms with some garlic added and black pepper and they were so good! dh is out tonight but when i make them for him i know he will be impressed!

mumofjust1 · 27/06/2012 18:37

Evening Smile hope everyone is getting on well today.

Quick question - what can I have with cream as a pudding?
