Bootcamp Week 10 - Pretty Perfect!

Morning campers!

Today's sermon is about cheating. There's been plenty of it along the way and there will be plenty more of it in the future.

It is important to accept that this is and is going to be a fact, as (hopefully) this is about a way of eating, rather than a diet. That means that sometimes there will be occasions and circumstances where it's impossible to keep the carbs down. The classic is when you're invited to dinner and your hosts serve you something 'forbidden', like pasta or rice.

Every now and then you will find that you also have a 'fuck it' moment. Where, for whatever reason, you eat something you shouldn't. It happens.

So.

If you're going to do it, do it right!

If circumstances are beyond your control - e.g. the dinner party - don't stress about it. If you've deliberately gone off piste, don't feel guilty about it. Enjoy the moment while you're in it.

What is absolutely critical is what you do next.

Beware that you will crave carbs and don't let yourself spiral out of control into a mammoth carb fest! Make sure that the 2-3 days immediately afterwards are strictly low carb, and drink plenty of water. And avoid the scales for the next few days!

Here endeth the lesson.

Betty I posted a dreamy creamy spinach soup o. The recipe thread which is delish

vnmum · 23/06/2012 21:14

shimbo I have lost some from all over but I think the most noticeable difference is my mid section and outer thighs.

sharon I don't have a personal trainer but my gym is a small independent one that prides itself on not leaving you on your own. They do group personal training, I don't pay for this, but they do a new program for you every 12 visits based on your goals at the time and when you are in doing your routine, if they aren't taking a group then the trainers will come and give you a bit of training or show you some different exercises to do etc. I am motivated to push myself though and I think that is key. I know that if i want the results I have to work hard when i'm there, not spend ages chatting Smile

moonshine · 23/06/2012 21:15

Vnmum, you look fantastic (although I thought you looked good before tbh) - is that a flat stomach I see Envy?

I'd be more than happy to be your before though!

I've not been particularly attentive to the WOE this week & have put on 2/3 pounds but I really need to stop feeling sorry for myself and go back to basics. My experiment next week will be trying to drastically cut down on calories.

Puffylovett - am particularly interested in the supplements you mentioned and the fact that you think they helped - were the effects instant then?

I have to collect 24 hrs worth of wee for tests in a huge container and I cannot believe how much I have produced already - am worried one container is not enough - and I have been not drinking too much! Has anyone else done this before??

duende · 23/06/2012 21:26

Hi, i have been lurking for the past 3 weeks and with your help have managed to lose 9lb. Another couple and i will be maintaining but need Biwi to devise bootcamp extra-light :)

Anyway, hokey was asking about breakfast, i often have "low carb porridge":

  • 2 tablespoons of linseed
  • tablespoon of whey protein
Add water from the kettle, a bit f cream, stir. Sprinkle with flaked almonds or nuts or seeds.

I have also made this with a combination of flaxseed, wheat bran ( now i knw this is grain but very high in fibre and even Atkins allows it as a constipation remedy...) and ground almond. You can add cinnamon, berries, cocoa.

Shimbo · 23/06/2012 22:32

Duende, welcome! That's great news its working for you Smile. I am also close to maintaining and am really interested in your porridge. I have the flaxseed already but can I ask where you get the whey protein from please?

teaandthorazine · 23/06/2012 22:35

Great pics vnmum! Love the bikini too Wink

Betty - I buy protein powder from www.myprotein.com, loads of flavours and cheap compared to places like Holland & Barrett. I mix it with water and double cream (sometimes with flaxseed too) every morning. I've never been a breakfast eater and this WOE hasn't really changed that, unfortunately - I just can't face solid food first thing. So this does the job really well for me (though it's not strictly Bootcamp fare...)

I've just tried to watch The Woman in Black but am on my own in the house and had to switch it off halfway Grin. My nerves are shot and I think I need a glass of wine...

HokeyCokeyPigInAPokey · 23/06/2012 22:39

Thanks duende i will give that a try...am just glad i have some options now, not dreading next week now.

duende · 23/06/2012 22:46

Like tea i also buy whey protein from my protein - it was recommended on here a few times. I first ordered their samples in individual pouches and now i've started a big bag of banana flavoured whey protein. Its lovely :)

MariaCallous · 23/06/2012 22:53

Hi all, slinking back on. Was on first threads and hit goal weight, but after a 3 week all inclusive holiday and a bereavement i need to get serious. Come Monday it's low carb and training for a 10k. Know I'll feel better for it but would never have managed the weight loss first time without you all.

jan2011 · 24/06/2012 06:02

hi to all the newbies :)

vnmum you look really great :) very toned! thats great that your gym does the programs for you - my gym instructor showed me in the gym induction how to do things, and i forgot a few weeks later when i went to use them. i would love someone to show me again.

moonshine do you mean drastically cut down on calories, or carbs?

BIWItheBold · 24/06/2012 07:58

Welcome (back) Maria! Sorry to hear about your bereavement.

moonshine - what do you mean, cut down on calories? Confused If you've been overdoing the carbs, then it's the carbs that have to go - you don't need to worry about counting calories.

I, too, am going back to Bootcamp as of tomorrow, as I have taken my eye off the ball somewhat, what with my various trips and a couple of 'difficult' social events. I've also been a lot less strict with myself when it comes to wine, which hasn't helped. As of next week, I have 7 weeks until we go on holiday, and I really need to shift a bit more of my tummy if I'm going to wear the bikini I've bought.

BIWItheBold · 24/06/2012 07:59

Specifically, I meant to say, I'm giving up coffee - because I've been drinking too many cups and so too much milk each day. I've tried drinking it with cream, but cream and I don't really get on well, so I'm going to restrict myself to yoghurt in terms of any dairy, and only then on mornings when I'm going to the gym. (It's easier/quicker than boiling eggs at 6 am!)

OP posts:
SharonGless · 24/06/2012 08:06

morning all
I too need to get focused as it is 6 weeks until my 40th and I would like to lose another 5lbs to get to my first target weight. I haven been very strict at all with alcohol for last 3 weeks. Have a party today with my BFF who is here from nz so got some chambers for us. Tomorrow is a new start although I will be very good with food today

SharonGless · 24/06/2012 08:06

Chambers =champers

BIWItheBold · 24/06/2012 08:11
Grin I did wonder!

I came across and interesting article about Weight Watchers, and how they have moved away from calorie counting. A lot of the stuff in here reflects the fact that it's an American website, but it's really worth a read. Especially for anyone who has been flirting with the idea of eating fruit!

OP posts:
jan2011 · 24/06/2012 08:17

i used to live on pears and apples! i think my tastebuds have changed. what i have done, is put avacados in the fruit bowl with the other fruits. then when i fancy a fruit, i eat the avacado :)

have a lovely time today sharon

hope you get past the caffeine withdrawal Biwi i always got a headache when i tried to give coffee up before (just to warn you!) if you get desperate you could always have a black one? ive heard of people putting coconut oil in it but i wouldnt fancy it myself!

by some miracle my baby is still sleeping!

SharonGless · 24/06/2012 08:30

That's a brilliant article for Dh to read - just emailed the link now.
If even WW are realizing it's not good to eat too much fruit the there is hope. I used to survive on apples for a long time but they ruined my teeth too.

HokeyCokeyPigInAPokey · 24/06/2012 08:55

jan i have done that too!

BIWI in an attempt to cut out milk i am down to about 1 cup of tea (i don't do coffee) every 4 days, just about to have one now.

I normally drink about 12 cups a day!

WillieWaggledagger · 24/06/2012 09:00

Nowhere near as good as hokey but I have managed to get down to one cup of (decaf) coffee a day with milk. I cut out caffeine at the same time as going low carb (I am a masochist) it was hell but worth it

HokeyCokeyPigInAPokey · 24/06/2012 09:14

I meant to say as well i did a taste test yesterday.....

Philidelphia and Sainsburys basics soft cheese. Philly was £2.38 and Sainbos was 55p i think.

The verdict there is so not much in it at all so i won't be buying Philly anymore!!

And it's 3.8g carbs per 100g.

Also tried their basics Mozzerlla, granted it is cows but it was fab.

BIWItheBold · 24/06/2012 10:01

Yes, jan, the worst withdrawal I have ever had has been from caffeine. I'm wondering whether or not I should just start off by allowing one cup first thing in the morning (which is always the nicest anyway!) and then switching to water from then on.

Hokey - most of the Sainsbury's Basics products are really good. When I was eating carbs, I discovered their ready meals, which I sometimes used to have as an easy lunch. (I'm not really a ready meal person - much prefer my own cooking!). You would expect, given the Basics branding, that they would be tasteless and full of crap - but nothing could be further from the truth. I really enjoyed their spaghetti bolognese and shepherd's pie - which were only 75p! Amazing value. And nothing artificial in them whatsoever. The only Basics things that I haven't enjoyed have been ground coffee and tinned tuna. Many Basics things are now a routine part of my shopping, including the mozzarella.

OP posts:
HokeyCokeyPigInAPokey · 24/06/2012 10:07

My mum loves their basics shepherd's pie but i have never tried anything from that range.

I am going back tomorrow to stock up!

Creamtea1 · 24/06/2012 10:08

I agree re sains basics cheese etc!
Sorry it's been a while, just checking in - have had a fairly off track weekend so am being strict today and this week to correct. Probs will have a fair bit of water retention and period due thurs too.
No point fretting, I enjoyed the few treats anyway sometimes you've got to slip a bit ;)

BIWItheBold · 24/06/2012 10:09

Indeed - hence my sermon re cheating this week!

OP posts:
sybilfaulty · 24/06/2012 10:23

i have just made Nigella's old fashioned choc cake for a friend, without licking the spoon or eating a smartie! Am so virtuous.

Am trying to have a good day. We are off to P Exp for lunch so large salad beckons. Haven't even felt tempted to cheat today.

Have a great day everyone.
