Bootcamp Week 10 - Pretty Perfect!

Morning campers!

Today's sermon is about cheating. There's been plenty of it along the way and there will be plenty more of it in the future.

It is important to accept that this is and is going to be a fact, as (hopefully) this is about a way of eating, rather than a diet. That means that sometimes there will be occasions and circumstances where it's impossible to keep the carbs down. The classic is when you're invited to dinner and your hosts serve you something 'forbidden', like pasta or rice.

Every now and then you will find that you also have a 'fuck it' moment. Where, for whatever reason, you eat something you shouldn't. It happens.

So.

If you're going to do it, do it right!

If circumstances are beyond your control - e.g. the dinner party - don't stress about it. If you've deliberately gone off piste, don't feel guilty about it. Enjoy the moment while you're in it.

What is absolutely critical is what you do next.

Beware that you will crave carbs and don't let yourself spiral out of control into a mammoth carb fest! Make sure that the 2-3 days immediately afterwards are strictly low carb, and drink plenty of water. And avoid the scales for the next few days!

Here endeth the lesson.

Thanks puffy Grin

Roasted lamb shanks tonight with last nights leftover cauli cheese. Gorgeous, although DH just told me he added balsamic and port to the sauce Hmm

BIWItheBold · 22/06/2012 18:49

Really enjoyed my salmon (baked with some butter and herbs) along with chili spiced celeriac chips and broccoli with some butter.

puffylovett · 22/06/2012 19:14

Mmm Leah that sounds gorgeous...

I think this is my first day on this thread where I haven't had my wrist slapped Grin

HumphreyCobbler · 22/06/2012 19:21

cheers for the support guys, have stayed strong and cut out the cheese.

Scrambled eggs and butter

teaandthorazine · 22/06/2012 19:23

Aww puffy Grin

I know, working on a Friday night sucks! 'Considering the impact of an alongside birth centre on community midwifery services' - gripping stuff eh? Not that I seem to be getting a great deal done...

Am off to another thread to tempt someone over, anyone wanna join me? Grin

BIWItheBold · 22/06/2012 20:05

Oooh yes - link please! Grin

Tell them that Betty hasn't farted for over a week now. If that doesn't convince em, then nothing will Wink

Infact I may contact MNHQ and ask for my very own ticker Grin

tartiflette · 22/06/2012 22:10

Hi all, mind if I barge in?

Have been lurking since week 5 and have lost 10lb (well I have lost about 4 stone since having twins 2 yrs ago but it's been done in painfully slow stages). I think I'm probably 7-10 lb from target now (haven't been that thin in living memory so am playing it by ear) and can feel things slowing down now - the real test will be over the next few weeks I think.

Anyway this thread has been a brilliant support for me and I was starting to feel a bit rude not joining in properly!

mummyduff · 22/06/2012 22:46

BettyGrin

BIWItheBold · 22/06/2012 23:15

Lurking?! How on earth have you managed that?! But bloody brilliant that you've lost so much in that time. You are very, very welcome.

morning tartiflette that is amazing well done and welcome!

unfortunately i am having very difficult time with dh lately and am considering leaving in the next few months. this is impacting at times on my eating plan and i need other ways of dealing with the stress of it - anyone got any good ideas? i used to go for a walk but can't get the motivation to go in the rain. i have a baby so can't read a book. food is so quick and easy to grab and i had another Flip it moment yesterday. not giving up. (i am sure i am eating enough fat this time so its not cos of that)

good luck for the weekend everyone hope you have a good one. :)

sybilfaulty · 23/06/2012 08:01

Sorry things are so tough, Jan. If possible, I try to walk, run or swim when things are bad, though I know this is n't always possible. Failing that, a power nap works wonders for me. If you need food that is quick and easy, can you boil a load of eggs and have them in the fridge? OR some ready made cheese and ham rolls (rolled up rather than bread of course). Thinking of you.

OUt with friends last night and had steak and salad. And a bit of mange tout. I swapped the chips for extra veg and it was mange tout and carrot. Left the carrots but had some of the other, plus 2 G and Ts (slimline). Will seriously bootcamp with no gin and no cheat for rest of weekend.

Ballet beckons. Not for me thank god. DOn't think world would be ready for that. I bought some nice Stella McCartney jeans in a charity shop yesterday. They don't yet do up. Wonder if they ever will. Would be fab if so. They are gorgeous and a TOTAL bargain!

Well done, Tartiflette. Fantastic loss.

Have a great Saturday.

BettySuarez · 23/06/2012 08:30

Sorry to hear that things are so tough jan I totally agree re the powernap. Would this be possible when the baby is asleep?

I hope that everything goes as well as it can for you.

tartiflette well done, that's amazing and congrats on your twins Grin

jan2011 · 23/06/2012 09:10

good suggestions thanks - i used to take the baby to bed when she slept but had stopped - and now she gets stuck on top of me (if i move her she wakes) while my mind thinks too much. so power nap is an excellent plan.

sybil well done on the stella jeans it makes you feel amazing when you get a brill bargain like that - and a good goal to aim for!

sweetheart · 23/06/2012 10:40

Hi all, is it too late o join in? Tea suggested I come across but I haven't had a chance o read everything and I'm not sure what I should be doing. I've got 4 weeks until my oliday and I need to get off about 7ibs if I can.

Is this low carb or no carb? What is low carb?

Jins · 23/06/2012 10:46

Just look for the bootcamp rules that BIWI posted a bit further up.

It's low carb. No carb is pretty much impossible to do!

Have a read of the bootcamp rules, follow them and we'll explain the theory as you go.

teaandthorazine · 23/06/2012 12:14

Hello sweetheart, welcome Grin

It's low-carb, not no carb. The rules, as Jins says, are near the start of the thread. It's really pretty simple once you get your head around it.

You cannot have the following: bread, pasta, rice, potatoes. No sugar, in any form. No fruit (for 2 weeks only, then berries) - this is not unhealthy, despite what some people would have you believe! No milk (cream is fine).

Lots (and I do mean lots) of green leafy veg and salad. This is where your carbs will come from. Lots of water (at least 2 litres per day.)

You can eat: meat, fish, eggs, cheese in any combination!

Any questions, ask away. It's a truly yummy and satisfying way to eat.

teaandthorazine · 23/06/2012 12:20

Oh, and btw - I know your original thread was about losing weight for your holiday but - this is not a fad diet, this is a Way Of Eating, ok? Wink

BIWItheBold · 23/06/2012 13:41

jan - I'm really sorry to hear about your problems. Can I just ask though - is this your first baby? I don't want to pry into your relationship issues, but I would say that in the first months post first baby, everything is very topsy turvy. I would counsel you not to make any decisions quite yet about leaving.

OP posts:
BIWItheBold · 23/06/2012 13:45

Oh, and welcome sweetheart!

This is definitely not no carb, but low carb. Read Bootcamp rules which are posted earlier in the thread. The idea of the rules is to make it as simple as possible for you - it would be worth printing them out, along with the list of allowed veg.

And if you have any questions there are plenty of us here who can help you.

If you're so inclined, it is also really worth reading up on low carbing, so that you can get your head around it, as you will find that much of it runs counter to what you have been told about nutrition/how to lose weight. It's important that you understand why you are going against conventional 'wisdom'! If you can get hold of a copy of Dr John Briffa's book "Escape the Diet Trap" (I really ought to be on commission), that's a very good read. Also, it is worth reading Atkins "The New Diet Revolution" - even though this isn't really an Atkins approach to low carbing.

And good luck!

vnmum · 23/06/2012 14:18

Hi all,
Thanks for the congrats and hi fives for the gym award. I even showed one of the female instructors my progress photos, from jan to june and she was very impressed. So was I actually, it was only when I looked back on them that I saw the massive difference in my shape. They are bikini shots, hence why I only showed them to the female instructor.

My WI results may be abit off these next couple of weeks. I will still post them but I may show a reasonable gain on monday. I am trying an experiment suggested by one of the gym instructors to increase my leptin levels. I am not going to give details yet until I know if it works or not but just wanted you to know incase you wonder what is happening when i post WI details Smile

BIWItheBold · 23/06/2012 14:47

Good for you! I think it's also a very good idea to step back sometimes and look at your progress over time. It's very easy, when you're 'in the moment', to get obsessed with why you haven't lost more than a pound or so, or why you're stuck, or you've put a pound on - and to forget the journey that you have been on (to use a well-worn cliche!), and how much weight has been lost overall.

I look forward with interest to see what your experiment is, and - most importantly - what the results are!

OP posts:
MNP · 23/06/2012 15:30

Well done vnmum intrigued re experiment

puffylovett · 23/06/2012 16:43

Yes vnmum, v intrigued to hear of experiment.
