Morning all!

Wow, so busy on here, it's fantastic! Sorry not to say hi to everyone individually, but hello to all new thread joiners, whatever you're doing, whenever you're doing it, stick with us and stay inspired Smile

Have been reading with interest about time slots. I think part of my problem is that my time slot is 'any time in my working day (work at home) when work isn't hectic'. I think this is a hindrance as it's always so easy to put off as the time range is so broad. I will think on that as it's the dithering about when to exercise that really p's me off! I could do an early morning slot I guess but am so not a morning person Grin

Ali, I must admit I am also a non-trainer wearer. I did try wearing them for a week or so and just couldn't get on with them, my legs felt too heavy. I can see though why it makes total sense to wear them if you can...

Off to walk dog now and will be dithering and then JM'ing this afternoon....

oh and what the f's going on with the site at the moment?? Is it just me or is it really slow most of the time?

I have just ordered the 30 day shred from Amazon for only £4.99 - I am fit and exercise every day but I am still expecting miracles...if its 20 mins then I can realistically fit it in every evening...whether or not I do though is another thing.

At the moment my activities are:-
Pole fitness (main one)
Spinning
Badminton
General classes such as hbt

Am hoping this is good grounding for the shred, we'll see Hmm

Incaminka · 04/07/2012 14:35

Am just about to do the deed and buy the dvd.

Tell me. At 11 and half stone (should be 9 and 3/4) and COMPLETELY UNFIT (occasional walk from sofa to end of garden and back) am I mad? I have done basic training in the army in my 20s, but that is 20 years ago. I was quite fit then.

Also, what do I need to buy - hand weights and at what weight?

Incaminka · 04/07/2012 14:41

(just to clarify, the 30 day shred dvd).

threestepsforward · 04/07/2012 14:59

Hello Betty (great name!) and Incaminka...

Betty you can make it more tough by using heavier weights to work harder, and even adding weights to some of the cardio sections (she does that in L3). If you don't feel any affects, you could move up from L1 quicker. I'm sure you'll still get benefits from it though.

What's pole fitness btw? I'm intrigued!

Incaminka you'll need a mat and some handweights. You can start with bottles of water / tins of beans or something, but you should get some handweights to get the most benefit. I'd look at 1 or 1.5 kg to start with, but if you can buy a set (say 1 to 3 kg), go for those as you'll surprise yourself with how quickly you improve and get fitter! Think amazon or argos sells sets of handweights for a reasonable price...

You'll be fine doing the Shred though. Jillian M says on the DVD that she has 400 pound people doing Shred type stuff so there's no reason for anyone not to do it. Also, if you are finding it hard, it's never very long before she moves on to something different, and it's all over in 20 mins Smile

Right, have done my requisite amount of dithering and am off to do something now, dare I say BFBM again! I'm hooked I tell you Grin

Thinking of starting the 30D Shred ... clueless about weights for at home as I workout at the gym.

Currently use 4kg per arm for bicep curls, squats/lunges and 3kg for tricep kick backs.

What weights should I get?

notyummy · 04/07/2012 15:08

Misswoowoo - some good advice from threesteps below. If you are already using weights, I would step down slightly because of the speed and cardio demands of Shred. If you then find it too easy you can blame me!! Most people start around the 1/2kg mark. You might want to do 2/3kg because of previous experience. As a guage, if you can already push out a fair few full press-ups within a minute then you are def ready for at least the 2/3kg if not more. If not, then perhaps slightly lighter?

MissWooWoo · 04/07/2012 15:11

Grin I cannot push out a fair few full press ups and the 4kg/3kg is just about doable for me at the moment so think I should start at the 1/2kg mark if there is speed involved Grin

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 04/07/2012 15:15

threesteps - pole fitness is well, just that...a non smutty version of pole dancing. I have a pole, and I also go to a studio - its great strength work, I do loads of tricks on it, lots of nice spins, I dont dance round it at all...I cannot abide the term pole dancing, its excellent, brilliant for toning and strength and confidence but sadly it has a bit of a undeserved reputation.

Think gymnastics, think parallel bars, and then turn it into a chrome pole :)

threestepsforward · 04/07/2012 17:16

Hiya Misswoowoo!

Betty pole fitness sounds great fun, and hard! Actually there used to be a studio round my way and get this, it doubled up as a band practice room [mind boggles at logistics]. It's gone now, but I always wondered exactly what it was, and now I know!

In that case your arms must be pretty strong? In which case definitely look at arming yourself with a set of light to heavier weights (2ish-3kg+) - you can even chop and change between weights within the same workout if you want to.

Also, if you find Shred really isn't doing it for you, you could try Ripped in 30, which is another of her DVDs based on the same 20 min Shred format. Levels 2, 3 and 4 of Ripped are a definite step up from Shred in general difficulty so that might suit you too...

BFBM done for the day, yay! Boy that's an intensive workout. Just been looking at some of the amazon reviews and was comforted to see that even real fitties were saying how hard it was!

Have a good evening all Smile

Hi everyone, and welcome new joiners, so many of you! Still haven't managed to do anything as still can't shift cough but am starting to feel better so may ease my way back in tomorrow with few circuits from NMTZ as I don't feel up to any heavy cardio.

If I collapse in heap it's been nice knowing you!

archfiend · 04/07/2012 19:48

Day 2 L2 of shred done. Please reassure me that it gets easier!!

Out of interest when did you start to see results from shred? I need motivation! Am going away in a few weeks and would like to feel slightly more confident in wearing summer clothes while I'm there.

BigBadBear · 04/07/2012 20:35

Day 1 of level 2 shred. Feeling very dispirited as I couldn't do very much of it at all and I've only lost 2lb (and that's if the wii isn't lying).

Trying to remember that level 1 was really hard to start with, but got much easier very quickly..

notyummy · 04/07/2012 20:47

L2 is tough! The transition from 1 to 2 is much harder than from 2 to 3.

reindeesandchristmastrees · 04/07/2012 21:26

Can i join you please. I succesfully shredded away baby weight two years ago but i stopped and it has all come back!!!
So have done 7 days at level 1 shred and today got up early, did level 1 and then got early dart from work and rather than springing kids from nursery and after school club I came home and had a level 2 session (OMG i know it was warm today but i was very sweaty) and a quick shower before getting the kids. I feel really virtuous!
I am 5'2" and about two stone and 3 dress sizes overweight so want to combine this with sensible eating. I am going to be 40 at the end of the year and i will be a size 8 (please?) or at least a small 10. I also do some hula hooping and a bit of running but have lost my running motivation at the moment

gypsyfloss · 04/07/2012 22:12

BigBadBear honestly it's gets better. You'll find it easier within a day or 2; the first day is always hard 'cos you're trying to learn new moves. Two lbs weight loss is good too and I'll bet you've shrunk a bit too. Keep going :)

6w6p L1 again...I'm never moving up! I managed to do the leg raises/diagonal get-ups with a 2 kg weight for the first time and as my shoulder is much improved I did the plank side raise thing on the floor rather than leaning against the bed. Gosh, that made a difference but I'm not sure how keen my shoulder was on it.

Who else is 6wk6p- ing? I've lost track! It's really busy on here now- lots of keen new shredders :)

SoftKittyWarmKitty · 04/07/2012 22:38

As predicted I hit snooze this morning and stayed in bed an extra 40 mins Grin. That meant I had to Shred when I got home from work this evening, when all I wanted to do was have my tea. At least I did it though, and it gave DS a laugh. I'm impressed and inspired by the people on here who get up at 5am/6am to work out, so here's hoping I can get my arse into gear first thing tomorrow.

febes · 04/07/2012 22:48

NMTZs or Ripped today Hmm what to do what to do?

missmakesstuff · 04/07/2012 23:48

I did manage it this morning, although I did almost 'phone it in...' I kept snoozing, and eventually got up to get on and do day 4 of 30DS. My day off tomorrow, intend to get up early and get it out of the way before all my jobs to do around the house, swimming with DD too, which mostly involves me holding her up in the water, so must help.

My calf hurts on one side, which is new - I do find the shred hard on the knees too, it is very bending knees heavy - haven't looked at L2 so don't know if it is just as bad...hope not!

I have a really bad back, but doing this does seem to help - I have been doing pilates once a week for a few months, so have been adapting some of the crunches to make them less harsh and a bit more pilates like - still seems to be working my abs though.

However, I am now watching a B-52's concert whilst chugging half a bottle of rose, so here's to willpower and getting up in the morning!

febes · 05/07/2012 04:47

I did ripped level 3. I was sweating on my sweat. Jumping lunges, table table thingames, creeping along the floor thingies!! I enjoyed it though!

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 05/07/2012 07:31

Yesterday ended up a rest, I was watching the tennis Grin

However this morning, I have a waist. And some definition round my collarbone!
My 2kg weights are here too.

I will definitely do L2 later! How amazing to see results already, especially under all my snowdrifts!

GlassofRose · 05/07/2012 08:25

Just ambitiously ordered 30 day shred as BFBM is too long to do daily.

notyummy · 05/07/2012 08:28

Well done Ali!

Febes - I HATE the jumping lunges in Ripped (well, I hate all jumping lunges tbh) but particularly in Ripped because they are so fast.

Was meant to do NMTZ yesterday but work has been manic this work and I have been working at home every evening when DD in bed. Managed 4 circuits of it though, which is better than nothing. Hoping to fit something in later today. Was planning a run, but looking at the sky, it may be a Jillian session instead....

missmakesstuff · 05/07/2012 08:42

I am too scared to look at Ripped and all the others, might give L2 a try today as getting bored with L1...

But first I have to get my bum off the sofa, on here drinking coffee on MN is not making me thinner...also have to do it before DD wakes as she just lays on top of me giggling when I do the abs. Which adds resistance, admittedly..
