BIWI's Bootcamp - Week 3 Weigh In - New Starters Welcome!

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 29/04/2012 17:52

So our two weeks of Bootcamp seem to have gone well, with some spectacular losses. Between us I think we have lost enough to make 3 or 4 new MNetters!

It's up to you now how you want to proceed. If you have a lot of weight to lose, or you like the strictness of it, you can carry on with Bootcamp. New joiners should start with Bootcamp anyway.

If you are nearly at your target, or you were finding Bootcamp a bit too restrictive, then you can move to Bootcamp Light - or you could do a hybrid of the two, which is what I am doing - Bootcamp Monday to Thursday and Bootcamp Light Friday to Sunday (which means that you can include alcohol at the weekend!)

As a reminder, or for those who are new, these are the Bootcamp rules:

1.Eat three, proper meals a day
You must eat breakfast. It doesn?t have to be a lot, but you must have something. For the rest of the day, if you?re eating enough food and you are in ketosis then you shouldn?t be hungry. But if you are hungry, eat something. (Hard boiled eggs make a great snack)

2.Avoid processed food, and focus on pure, natural protein as the basis for your meals ? meat/fish/eggs.
Things like sausages, ham, bacon, pre-prepared burgers etc should be avoided as much as possible. Avoid foods marketed as low carb, e.g. Atkins Daybreak bars.

3.Maximise your fat intake.
Fry in butter, add butter to vegetables, eat salad with a home-made vinaigrette dressing (not made with balsamic vinegar though), add mayonnaise where you can (just check the carb count on your mayo first). Eat fattier cuts of meat ? e.g. pork belly, roast chicken with the skin on and/or eat the fat off your lamb chops. Absolutely no low fat/light foods of any kind!

4.Make sure you are eating vegetables and salads with your food ? this is where your carbs should come from.
But choose only those vegetables that are on the allowed list (see below). You don?t have to weigh/count carbs ? this is one of the great joys of this WOE (way of eating), but if you?re new to low carbing it can be helpful to weigh your portions of veg in the early days, just so that you know how many carbs are in the sort of portions that you like to eat

5.Minimal dairy (apart from butter, which is unlimited).
If you are still drinking tea/coffee with milk or cream, try to restrict yourself to max 2 cups per day. You may eat cheese, but only in small amounts.

6.You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day.
The more weight you have to lose, the more water you should drink

7.No alcohol

8.No fruit

9.No nuts/seeds

10.No sugar or artificial sweeteners

And this is the allowed list of veg:

Don?t eat any veg unless it?s on this list, and try and focus on eating those that are under 3g carbs per 100g:

Veg (raw)Carbs per 100g
Mushrooms0.4
Watercress0.4

Snuck on the scales last night and I am still going in the right direction. Total loss of 9lb for me now and I only started on the 23rd April.

I don't think the first few pounds were true loss but definitely seem to be shrinking a bit more now! Still a long slog to go but heading in the right direction.

Low carving must be catching as all my friends want to give it a go now!

Well done to everyone. Smile

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 02/05/2012 13:20

Yay! Point them in this direction, Five!

And well done on the 9lbs. Frankly, it doesn't really matter what those 9lbs are - they've gone! And now you're well on your way to really shedding the fat.

It'll be the next MN book y'know ...

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 02/05/2012 13:27

Funny you should say that - have been thinking just that!

A book is a great idea - particularly with recipes as there appear to be so few LC recipe books around (and it makes me cross that the IPD book doesn't have a carb count for each recipe.)

A book, plus the business opportunity for LC ready meals/food outlets that was mentioned on one of the LC threads a while back...interesting!

MsRinky · 02/05/2012 13:53

I'm still here and still at 233. Having a very difficult week (guests for a long weekend followed by 15 hour work days). Will be back in bootcamp mode just as soon as I get over my work backlog.

PostBellumBugsy · 02/05/2012 14:00

BIWI, you are a very good motivator. I read your comments & you get a really good balance between praise, encouragement and admonishment where necessary!
Have you got training? Are you a life coach? What is your secret!?!
And if you do a book, can I help with all the sciencey stuff? Wink

survivingspring · 02/05/2012 14:15

Absolutely amazed when I got on the scales this morning - lost 2lb in just a few days!! This may just be a good start but fantastic motivation to continue Grin

Fiveisenough · 02/05/2012 14:31

BIWI. You are just awesome. I would not be doing this if it wasn't for you.

Reading how well everyone is doing is keeping me on the straight and narrow too!

Well done to all!

Badcat666 · 02/05/2012 15:01

PostBellumBugsy - thank you! No, not a life coach at all. Just an enthusiast who is a bit evangelical about low carbing!

I agree with others - you are a great motivator on these threads and we are all secretly terrified when you type in caps at us

I will update the missing people later.

Just back from Sainsburys and had a look at the alternative milks to check out the carbs. HalfSpam suggested the lactose free milk, which is indeed lower in carbs than regular semi-skimmed However the soya milk is only ...... 0.2g per 100ml. No idea how it tastes, but it's got to be worth a try.

I'll report back in the morning when I've had my shake. Just water was a bit, well watery this morning so I'm hoping this will do the job.

Marabou · 02/05/2012 21:03

Evening all!

I'm also already getting along so much better than on all the other diets I've tried. I'm loving this thread and all the tips!

NotMostPeople, I had my coffee with unsweetened soya milk for about a week, but then switched to double cream as I didn't much care for the taste. Maybe it just didn't go well together with coffee though and will be good for shakes. I could imagine that actually as it's quite creamy..

In any case, I got the fullfat lactofree today so tomorrow morning I'm going to have a nice freshly brewed coffee with a pinch of cardamom and cinnamon and a splash of milk, yum!

OliviaLMumsnet · 02/05/2012 23:28

I have gone off coffee (incredibly unlike me) and swtiched to redbush tea with a small splash of milk
burnt omelette for lunch and salmon adn leeks for supper
and have placed proper low carb online shopping order which won't arrive until Friday but that still gives me a few days to catch up until weigh in (thinking positive)

TheEternalOptimist · 03/05/2012 01:44

Right. Am planning to start next week (cause we have visitors arriving tomorrow), but need some advice.

  1. What do you do with the family - I am staying with parents atm. Do you just make normal meals and leave out the pasta/rice/bread etc?
  1. What about when you go out for a meal?
  1. Is there a kind of starter shopping list, or do you all just make it up as you go along?
SharonGless · 03/05/2012 05:25

I know some are weighing once a week now but as I maintained have weighed this morning and 2lbs off so 12st 8lbs.

For new starters come and join the chat thread. BIWI will be along later to explain all

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 03/05/2012 06:25

Morning! Just off to the gym and will be back to 'explain all' later!

BreakOutTheKaraoke · 03/05/2012 07:13

I have got into the bad habit of weighing myself every day, but this week I'm quite glad I have- I've had 1lb off every day so far, so from 10st 3 3/4, I'm now 10st 1/4, 3 1/2lb so far! I actually think a lot of it is to do with the withdrawal of sugar, as much as the carbs, as I'm an awful snacker.

doradoo · 03/05/2012 09:24

Down 100g here today so total of 1,9kg. But amazingly I've lost three inches off my waist - nothing from the hips yet - but my tummy is definitely smaller - hooray!

Today's menu:

Bacon and eggs fried in butter
Left over flax pizza with tuna/capers/olives - possibly with salad
Roast fillet of pork with green beans and cauli cheese

FreeButtonBee · 03/05/2012 09:56

Another 1.5lb off this morning - remarkable! This is definitely a one time only, first week effect for me but happy to take it. Hitting the water big time today as I can feel how thirsty I am. Definitely feeling a lot less bloated and farty - I think bread - or maybe yeast - has a Very Bad effect on me. Will watch (listen/smell!) with interest!

Dinner last night was aubergine parmigiana with a big rocket, spinach and watercress salad. Delish. Not the lowest carb dish in the world due to the tomatoes but I am okay with toms on this WOE so am going to carry on.

B: smoked salmon (the waitrose off cuts are v good value) with squeeze of lemon and black pepper.
L: not sure
D: out tonight for dinner - I am perusing the menu in advance to ward off the impusive dive towards pasta! Have narrowed it down to a couple of options.
