So we have survived week one, more or less intact Grin

There has been a lot of cheating along the way - either intentional or accidental - but most people seem to be getting on with it and embracing low carbing. And we have seen some spectacular results already!

As one of the cheaters, I can tell you what you will already have discovered for yourself:

This way of eating (WOE) is an unforgiving one. If you slip up or cheat, it will show up on the scales

I know it's hard. I drank wine on both Friday and Saturday night. But it really is up to you how strict you choose to be - and therefore hopefully you will understand that it is up to you how much weight you are losing.

I realise this sounds patronising. But it's the ultimate truth of this (or any) diet.

Having said all that, I also know that there are some people who are struggling, and for whom weight loss has been very slow.

Just remember, if you have less weight to lose, then your rate of loss will be slower than those who have more to lose. And any loss, even if it's only a pound or so, is still a loss. Visualisation is always helpful for me if I think I've only lost a pound this week. Remember, a pound loss is like two packets of lard! That's a lot of fat.

And if weight loss is slow, or you're not seeing the scales move, have a long look at what you have been eating and drinking, and be really honest with yourself. Have you been following the rules? Have you been allowing carby things into your diet? Have you being drinking enough water? Try keeping a food diary so you can record everything (and I mean everything) that you're eating and drinking, as this can help you identify what might be affecting your progress.

If you still can't work out why it's happening (or not happening!), post what you've been eating and drinking here, and others might be able to help and advise you.

Anyway. Lecture over! Welcome to Week 2. Hopefully you will all see significant loss this week as well. But those of you who have lost loads in week 1 - don't expect to see the same kind of loss in this week - it's inevitable that it will slow down. Remember that sustainable, long term weight loss is around 1-2lbs per week.

And those of you who are struggling, hopefully another strict week will get things going for you! And I also hope that everyone has got through their carb withdrawals by now, and you are all feeling fantastic!

Onwards and downwards ... Grin

BIWI - I love the look of Bootcamp light I think I'll approach the new foods ie. berries etc as a treat to have once in a while but try to generally stick to bootcamp phase one.

Am off to Aldi in a moment to stock up on deli items so I'll see if they do macadamia nuts too.

vnmum · 26/04/2012 11:28

Oh also, can I suggest CLA supplements. You need to get a high strength one, 1000mg but it is known in the fitness and body building world to help with fat metabolism and loss. I was taking it in the beginning and losing quite well then since I stopped taking it, I have hardly lost. It may just be coincidence but I am getting some more on payday and will see if it starts me losing again. There are various reports on it on the internet too. You can get it online or I get mine from a large Tesco, £16 on offer at the moment, its with all the body building shakes etc.

p.s I'm not a bodybuilder but I read fitness articles and think they must have something right in their nutrition to be able to strip the fat off for competition

doradoo · 26/04/2012 11:29

Any ideas for a fabulous LC side dish to take to a barbecue tomorrow night?

I need something which will wow the other guests.......

Am all ears!

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 26/04/2012 11:30

There's no especial limit, LF - Atkins induction is 20g per day, if that helps - but the idea is that if you're focussing on lower carb veg/salad (i.e. the 3g carbs per 100g or less) then you will be keeping your overall carbs down to an appropriate level.

If you like, I can send you a carb counter spreadsheet that I have devised. All you need to do is enter the weight of the veg you're using and it will give you an overall total. If you want it, I'll e-mail it to you.

But the idea was that we wouldn't be constrained by having to weigh and count. This should help to make it an easier way of eating, and make it feel less like dieting.

LC side dish aubergine rolls they are my take-along even when not LCing and deeee-licious Grin

Exciting revalations from top-up shop at Tesco...
Brazil nuts - 2.9g carbs per 100g!!!
Tesco Brocolli and stilton fresh soup - 2.3g carbs per 100g so 6.9g for half a carton...not too bad???

FauxFox · 26/04/2012 11:34

revelations obv Blush

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 26/04/2012 11:36

Shirl - if it helps, I'm going to make weigh-ins on Bootcamp Light only once a week. The initial large losses that many saw in the first week will not continue, so it's pointless anyway to be weighing in more often.

You are absolutely right about not comparing yourself to anyone else, and this is good advice for everyone on this/these threads:

Weight loss is not a race

We all lose differently. It's not surprising given that we all eat differently, have different starting weights and do different things - e.g. exercise/no exercise/mammoth exercise.

And also:

Weight loss is not linear

Sometimes you will lose nothing - sometimes you will see a sudden drop. And there's not necessarily any explanation for it - no matter how 'good' or 'bad' you have been.

Ultimately, if you're eating well and feeling good, then stick with it. (Have you taken any measurements yet, btw?)

I'm sorry you're feeling down though. Thanks and Wine

BIWI - Yes please that would be brilliant.

Am I allowed to eat cream?

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 26/04/2012 11:38

You can eat cream. However, some people find that too much dairy can impede weight loss. I don't have any allergies/intolerances to dairy, but I have to avoid cream particularly. I also try and keep cheese to a minimum.

Butter is unlimited though Smile

(Shall I use your hotmail address, btw?)

OP posts:
LittleFrieda · 26/04/2012 11:41

BIWI - Sorry for all the questions. Thank you for doing all of this. It's brilliant that you've made it work for you, and really got a handle on it. How much weight have you lost altogether?

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 26/04/2012 11:47

I don't mind about the questions at all. I'm really happy to help, and am delighted that it's working so well.

Over the years - I've lost loads! And then put it all back on again because I fell off the wagon Blush

This time I'm 16lbs down, and have another 18lbs to go ...

GreatEXPATations · 26/04/2012 12:02

Shirleyknot, I also feel bad.. Was only trying to make piss poor joke about muscle as I see you work out a lot ..
I left quietly for a couple of days as so despondent at still being stuck wrong side of 60k after living for 4 months..it's so true it's not linear nor a race.. But understand if it doesn't help you..good luck.

LittleFrieda · 26/04/2012 12:04

BIWI - Yes, hotmail address is fine. Will look out for it.

WOW to your weight loss so far.

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 26/04/2012 12:06

I hasten to add, that's since 6 Feb - not in the last couple of weeks!

Slow and steady has been the way for me.

OP posts:
KeepOrfThemCarbs · 26/04/2012 12:32

Seriously, though, shirl, really sorry that you feel down about this. I do know how you feel btw, I felt very similar things about 6 weeks ago when I lost fuck all and everyone else on the thread was losing a pound here, a pound there. I am sure that you will see a weightloss soon, however I agree that if it makes you feel bad it is best not to carry on on this thread. BLOODY HELL though you are so lovely it is a shame that you won't be here.

Ledkr I hope you feel better soon - and that the red days on slimming world work for you. You do sound like you are missing something, what wityh feeling so lethargic and bruises all over you. There must be some reason for that other than the low carbing. Mind you I am always covered in bruises from walking into things.

Well done everyone who has lost - I am going over to t'other thread to look and start the spreadsheet shenanigans.

ilovemyteddy · 26/04/2012 12:47

Aw Shirl sad to see you go, but totally understand why. One of the things I loved about the IPD book is that they explore the emotional side of dieting and weight gain/loss. I cried when I read it as I knew they 'understood' IYSWIM.

My poo story - please do not read any further if you are eating Grin

I did Atkins years ago, and didn't poo for the first ten days and didn't lose any weight. Started taking Dulcolax (sp) and on day ten the floodgates opened Grin I was on the loo for a looonnnnggg time, and when it was finally over I had lost 7lb!!!

KeepOrfThemCarbs · 26/04/2012 12:52

Christ! 7lbs

That is more than my DAUGHTER weighed. Grin

LackaDAILYcarb · 26/04/2012 12:53

Aw Shirly Sad. Don't go. This is about support for those not doing so great as well as celebrating those that are. I almost gave in yesterday, but am sticking with it.

Just looking at books on Amazon...What's the difference between IdiotProofDiet and IDP From Pig to Twig. Is one just a re-hashed version of the other?

MrsNouveauRichards · 26/04/2012 12:59

:o ilove

Shirty sorry you are still having no joy on the weightloss.

Feeling a bit fed up with the whole thing myself tbh. I know this WOE works, I have lost weight, I feel better and some of the meals I have really enjoyed, but I feel like food is now something I need to refuel rather than be enjoyed. I am craving a bowl of porridge. I will definitely stick with low carb lunches as this has been really beneficial, but I don't want to be obsessing about food and I am. If I want a piece of toast I don't want to spend half an hour agonising over it then feeling guilty for taking a bite of the children's toast. I like that I seem to have kicked the sugar addiction, this is a huge step for me. I am not craving junk food anymore. BIWI thank you so much for your help and everyone for your support, do you mind if I stick around but not be quite so strict?

slowlyburningcalories · 26/04/2012 13:12

Right well I am certainly slimmer and I can confirm that my scales are talking utter cr@p so I need to purchase some more. Weighed myself in three different places in the house and weights were 12.2, 12.0. and 11.9

mummyduff · 26/04/2012 13:22

Afternoon all, well what rubbish weather again, so fed up of this rain Sad

Had 2 eggs for breakfast, a lovely prawn salad for lunch and of course gallons of water.

I hope everybody continues as its not about how fast you loose the weight, I have found over the last 3 years(since my 3rd child and weighed 4stone more) mine has come off in waves, but if I work it out its like 1lb a week as yoyo a little.
This is the first time in years I feel like I am getting real support and motivation, Thanks everybody. I am finally feeling like my confidence is returning and I am a happier person.

Chin up everybody and have a lovely afternoon x x x

FourThousandHoles · 26/04/2012 14:06

Weather fairly bright here Grin. It won't last I'm sure as I'm off to pick dd1 up in a bit and we are going for a walk.

Shirl, have a look at the weightloss thread, quite a few on there not lost this week, stick with it

I had this for lunch and it was bloody lovely. I know it's peas but the overall carb count was 3.something. yum.

ledkr · 26/04/2012 14:07

Thanks everyone.
shirl thats how i felt,i didnt step out of line once and lost none and then kept reading people cheating and losing loads Shock
I also had aforlorn walk around the shop one day looking for lunch ideas but there was nothing i could eat or fancied eating. I felt depressed and obsessed and dont fancy that road so soon after pnd so i had to cry off.
I have also found my sweet cravings have gone and im eating really well.I enjoy some porridge and fruit in the morning then eat a low carb lunch and dinner. I feel much better.
tbh i could never have done my job on a constant full bladder and i just hate fatty food so it probably wasnt right for me.
Was going to start the gym tonight but baby up half the night and then at 5.30 so ill be in bed by 7.
Well done all of you.

slowlyburningcalories · 26/04/2012 14:13

I have drunk my water, eaten my lunch and the sweeties in the shop downstairs are calling me

somebody stop me!
